EM & Owner User ID?? Why?

Guys,
Im struggling with Owner User ID and Extension mobility.
It seems to me that unless we set Owner user ID on every single hardware phone, it uses an extra license. Why would you set owner user ID when you are using extension mobility? The whole point of extension mobility is that a phone has no owner, they can use any phone.
The problem is, if you set owner user ID on every phone, users get an EXTRA phone appear in their UCM user options (https://callamanger/ucmuser) that has nothing to do with them.
So for example, john smith may have an iPhone jabber, a CSF jabber, and an EM user device profile. If you set a desk phone to be owner by him, he sees four devices under his UCMUser, even though he only ever uses three.
This causes complaints and confusion for users. The only option I see is just to not set owner user ID for the physical desk phones, but this results in using twice as many licenses as we should.
Am I missing something here?

Thats exactly my point.
Why are we assigning an owner to a hardware phone, when we are using a feature (Extension mobility) that is designed to allow people to log in to ANY hardware phone (So phones do not have "owners)
If we assign an owner to a phone, that hardware phone appears in the users user options web page - The self care portal. This is silly.
If you are using extension mobility then phones do not have owners, people merely have device profiles that are used on ANY phone and ANY hpone can be owned by ANY user. Why are we statically assigning an owner User ID for a desk phone when the User is inherantly mobile and not static?
I have two choices, do not statically assign phones, and use twice as many licenses. Or statically assign a phone, and the user has the option to administer a phone (in their CM user options) that they may never sit at; And certainly never NEED to administer, because all of the settings are under their device profile, and NOT the desk phone because the user uses extension mobility.
Can you see my point?

Missing objects when created a OWB 11g owner/user

h4. i created a new owb owner and user using repository, but apparently no objects (tables,views,synonyms,function and etc) has been "imported" or copy from OWBSYS to the owner.

Starting from OWB 11g all the metadata and audit information will be owned by OWBSYS user unlike OWB10g where in the metadata and audit information
used to be created under respective repository owner.
There will be only one OWB repository schema (i.e OWBSYS)per database
Initially there won't be any objects under OWBSYS. Once you create a new workspace then all the objects will be created under OWBSYS.
And the new owner will not have any objects, all the objects will be owned by OWBSYS.
The workspace owner user is used to adminster the workspace and users.
This is correct behaviour. No need bother about this. So no need to import any objects under this database user.
The objects i referred previously are OWB design objects like mappings,transformations,modules,projects.
If you want to import/create the OWB design objects you have to connect to the OWB design center and import the objects using MDL utility or create new objects.
The metadata about these design objects will be stored in the tables owned by OWBSYS.

Calling ctx_snippet() from non-owner user returns error

I created a full text index in owner schema A for documents stored in BFILE datatype, and tested the snippet query, worked like dream.
The query is something like:
SELECT doc_id, ctx_doc.snippet('A.IDX_DUMMY',rowid,'keywords')
FROM A.documents
WHERE contains(document,'keywords')>0
But, when I run the same query from an application user, I got error:

If I SQL*Plus using application user account, and run DBMS_LOB programs, the document BFILEs can be accessed without any problem.
I also tried log in as sys, the query return the same error.
I also specifically give directory read privilege to application user, CTX_SYS, all did not work.
Any clue here?

Solved!!!
The reason is that, initially, the directory read privilege was granted to index owner user as well as the non-owner user by sys as dba, without "with grant option"
Now, I grant directory read privilege to the index owner user "with grant option", then the index owner grant the privilege again to the non-owner user. Now, things work! The privilege flows through.

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted from the disc, the USB device, or Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

Want to create a Read Only user for a given app owner user

Hi Folks,
We have an application owner schema, lets call it OWNER, which has different objects living under it.
Now, for certain reasons, the app group wants a read only user which should be able to view objects living only in OWNER. It would only be able to read things, and have no create or alter types of priv to be able to change anything.
The first idea was to create a new user (e.g. RO) and give this explicit grants (select only) for all objects in OWNER. Though this works, is a maintenance havoc, since everytime there is a new object in OWNER, you have to remember to give explicit grants to all RO (or RW ) kind of users.
What i am looking forward to is, some sort of privilege or role concept that apply on the user level, and not on object level. something that allows me to say, all objects of this schema (e.g. OWNER) are visible to user RO. Other restrictions on RO would control read or write behaviour.
Does this thing exist ? please point me to the documentation/example..

When I respond to certain messages, I get an error message "unknown host" or "unknown user." Why is this?

Since the latest upgrade to 31.0, there are times when I will receive an e-mail, but when I send a reply, I get a response saying the message is undeliverable because of an unknown user, or an unknown host. These are messages, I'm replying to and have already received, so it's not a case of typing in an incorrect address.
This happens using both my computer and phone. Not sure why this is suddenly happening now, and why only with certain addresses. Any suggestions? Thanks.

my guess is they have invalid replyto information in the header. As it is on two devices, one of which can not run Thunderbird it is certainly not a Thunderbird issue.

How to make a portlet unvisible for another(not Owners) Users?

I want to make one or two portlets(Admin-Area) unvisible for other users. But when I create a portlet as Site-Owner, then all another users can they see.

You can hide and show portlets of Web providers (OmniPortlet, Web Clipping, and Java portlets) on portal pages dynamically. This functionality is controlled by security managers. The PDK provides a number of security managers. For example:
o Group security manager: The group security manager makes the portlet appear to users who are members of a specified group, while hides the portlet for those who are not members.
o Authentication level security manager: You can use the authentication level security manager to control access to the portlets based on the users authentication level. For example you may hide the portlet from public users, but display it to authenticated users.
In addition to the security managers provided by the PDK, you can build your own security managers.
Although OmniPortlet and Web Clipping do not expose security managers through the user interface, you can apply them by editing their XML provider definition file.
For PL/SQL portlets you can use the is_runnable method to control whether the portlet is hidden or shown.

I assume you are talking about the username for this site, and the reason for that being we don't want you to have the publicly visible username be something sensitive like an e-mail. Otherwise you'd start to get a lot of spam.

New owner of MBP, why can't you turn off the keyboard backlight in Win 7?

I'm a new owner of MBP. I have Windows 7 64bits installed on bootcamp. The keyboard backlight is really bothering me. I thought Boot Camp was out for awhile, and I don't know why can't Apple fix this backlight control thing? I downloaded that power assistant software and I liked it; however, I was turned off that it wasn't a freeware. What can I do to turn this backlight off permanently?

Well... seems like pre-2010 MBPs all had 'non-disablable' keyboard backlights on Windows. Installing BC 3.1 won't help at all. You could temporary minimize backlight level, but not turn it off. And on just any ambient light change it jumps back to maximum. Extremely erratic
A friend of mine got a 2010 MBP and he's able to turn backlight off. I've got mid-2009 model with BC 3.1, and I can't. My another friend has late-2008 model, he can't turn the backlight off, either.
I agree, ideally powerplan7 should have been a freeware. However, although I did spend $10 on a key, I'm oh-so-happy right now. With backlight disabled And since there are no alternatives AT ALL, I'm glad they're not selling this software for, say, $25.

Used g5, erased hard drive still has the previous owner user account

I bought a used g5 and also got the original install disks. I used disk utility and erased the empty space. However when I inserted the install disk it says it will restart but it first wants the password. The previous owner cannot remember his password in the user accounts. When I try to re-install the OS it asks for the password first. How can I write over the user account or completely initialize the disk or do you have to have the password for that?

The previous owner has apparently implemented an Open Firmware Password without which you cannot boot the computer nor start it up from a CD/DVD installer. The previous owner needs to provide you that password. The OF Password is not the same as the user account password. Surely the previous owner could not forget the OF Password or he/she could never use the computer.
How were you able to "use Disk Utility" if you could not boot the computer?

Excel file very slow to save - but only for one user! Why?

I have an excel spreadsheet that I share with my partner, i.e. another user on my Mac. The file works just fine for me, but is very slow to save when my partner uses it. Save time for me is about 3 seconds, for my partner about 45 seconds. The problem only seems to be with this one file, and the slow save time is driving her nuts! (I'm not able to upload the file as it contains confidential info).
The file is about 225kB with about 6 worksheets and some macros. It’s stored in a folder below the standard OSX ‘shared’ folder. Both users have identical permissions on these folders and this file.
What have I tried already? Re-saving the file in a different place, renaming it, re-creating it by copying the contents to a blank file, repairing permissions on my partner’s user account, copying excel .plist files from my user to hers, deleting her .plist file & creating a new one. None of these have worked.
System details ... 2.8GHz I5 iMac (late 2010 vintage), 8GB memory, OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard). Excel for Mac 2011 v14.2.3 (auto updates on & all installed I believe)
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

How to select - Who did create ABAP user? Why Provisioning was started?

Could you please help me to understand how to find the person who created ABAP user via SAP IDM (7.2 SP9, Win2012R2, Oracle11g)?
The story was following:
1. User in IDM had role
2. Administrator add privileges to this user's role, one of privileges was PRIV:<SIDCLNT>:ONLY
3. IDM run Provisioning tasks and created user in ABAP system.
All was correct.
Now after some time I need to know who created ABAP user in SAP.
I try to find what tasks were processed the user with mskeyvalue='104622':

So I have auditid=159626 and auditroot=159625 for task "1. Create HR ABAP User".
That's all that I can find about it.
In this concrete situation I know that administrator change the user's role and as result user was created.
If I check MXP_AUDIt for previous AUDITID values (159624,159623,159622,159621) I will really know that it's auditsid for role changing with same fererenced value refaudit=159621:

Server unlocks locked users automatically - why ?

I am using WLS 6.1 SP1
I have set Lockout Enable option to TRUE in Password tab of security.
I also have set
Lockout Threshold = 3
Lockout Duration=999999
Lockout ResetDureation= 5
and rest are default.
After invalid login in a span of 5 minutes, server locks the user.
I can see the status on the console server->Monitoring->Security tab
Total User Unlocked = 0
Locked Users = 1
But if try to login again with same (locked) user with or without correct
password,
the server unlocks user. Next attempt with correct password, user will be
successfully authenticated.
If you see in the console for server->Monitoring->Security tab,
Total User Unlocked = 1
Locked Users = 0
I have not used any unlock command.
Is there is anything wrong in the configuration or web.xml ?

Hello,
I found out one problem - Looks like a BUG
If Lockout Duration = 999999 then Server unlocks locked user automatically
during next login attempt
with correct or incorrect password.
This looks like a bug becuase
--- Value 999999 is the maximum value allowed and it accepts this value.
In the documentation, this value represented in terms of Seconds as the unit
of measurement
whereas actaully the <Lock Notice> is displayed in terms as 999'999 Minutes.
I tried with value 99999 (5 digits), it works !!!
