Email alert on failure - BO Publisher 6.5

Hi,
We are using publisher 6.5 to burst customized BO reports to users in PDF format. We have five full client reports which are configured in five different publications. Each publication will send the customized report in PDF format and each publication will send more than 1000 reports at a time. We run all the five publications one by one using publisher (BA). So every time we burst more than 5000 reports using publisher 6.5. Some times the publisher fails after sending some number of reports (approx 1000). So we have to regularly check the trace file to know the status of the publisher, which required extra effort. Even we are not able to schedule the publisher because it may fail at any time. So far publisher has thrown two error messages whenever it fails. We tried to find the cause for the error message but we are not able to find.
Error Message from publisher
Error Number -2147220989 Occurred: Method 'SendAsText' of object 'IMail' failed
Error Number 62 Occurred: Input past end of file
What is the main cause for the above error messages?
How to avoid them?
Is it possible to configure the publisher to send an email to us whenever it fails?
BO Server Configuration
Operating System         : Windows 2003 standard edition SP1
BO                               : 6.5 SP2
Repository                    : SQL Server 2005
IIS                                : 6.0

I don't know of any way to do this from within Mail.app -- the Rules by default only are applied to incoming email & there is no way I know of to apply them to a new message you are composing.
One (non-automatic) workaround you might find useful is to right or control click on any attachment not shown as an icon in your message & select "View as icon." This will at least show you the size of the attachment.

Nothing is built in Project Server to do this for you automatically.
They way I have done this in the past is to create a SQL job using SSIS. It runs every hour and when it sees a project schedule that has a recent PUBLISHED date then this is a trigger to send an email to project manager.

I have set up alerts for several authors, who have published new books, but I have received no email alerts - know they have published books since I set alerts up can anyone help?

SCOM 2012 SP1 Can't get email alerts for Heartbeat Failure or Computer Unreachable when combined with Group.

I have SCOM 2012 SP1 RTM POC lab. I have created a dynamic group that picks up my system center servers based on some simple criteria and this works fine.
I have set up a subscription for critical and high severity alerts originating from this dynamic group called SCOM Servers to send emails to a distribution. This also worked well for any critical alert that was NOT Heartbeat Failure or Computer Unreachable.
I see those in the console but no email.
So I set up a new subscription by right clicking on the alerts and here's the kicker. If add no other conditions to these subscriptions, they will send emails to the DL I provided, but if add the condition initiating from group, and specify my dynamic
group SCOM servers, no email alert. But the alert still appears in the console.
Any ideas on this? I would like the appropriate support groups to get these types of alerts for the servers that they support (i.e. SCOM will get SCOM servers, Exchange Admin will get Exchange and never the two roads shall meet.).
I even tried some internet posted custom management pack, but I couldn't import it after adding the code that he listed.
I mean, isn't this a basic requirement for any mid-sized company?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Like Dan says you need to add the "Health Service Watcher" objects to the groups as wel. Unfortunately this cannot be done in the Dynamic group Editor but has to be done in the XML. Export the XML and add the following piece of code between the

Save the XML delete the old one in OpsMgr and import the edited.
For SP1 the SystemLibrary version is 7.0.8430.0. If this is not your version you need to edit this in the code above.

Email Alerts for Scheduled Backup Failures on Cisco UCM?

Hi,
I never set this up before or know if this is possible. Can I setup email alerts on Cisco UCM 8.X when a scheduled backup fails?
I specified the SMTP host under the OS administration page, but that is it.
Please let me know if this is possible and if so how I can set this up?

You'll be looking for the CiscoDRFFailure in Alert Central of RTMT. The alert can be configured to send a free text alert to an email address on backup failure.

Need email alerts for DRM export failure

In my application, exports are failing everytime, but I am unable to find it on time.
I would like get email alerts, Can you please suggest the steps.

There is no direct email notification facility in DRM, You can think of creating a blank trigger file at end of export job and create a file watcher to check for it to ensure the successful completion of your job.

Select this MTE and click in Proprerties.
In the performance Attribute have the thresholds that will be compared with the last 24 hours, the the number of the update is around the threshoulds, the new alert will be created.
To get an email you should check the note #176492 and ensure than all steps are right in the configuration.
TO check if the email configuration is right you can trigger an auto-reaction method manualy.
Goto the monitor (in RZ20), Extras - >Active mantainance function
Select the item and go to Edit -> Nodes -> Start Methods -> Start AutoReaction
And check if the emails are display in SCOT or SOST transaction.

I have this request.
BODS 3.1 : How to trigger an email alert for the jobs on BODS server ?
We have jobs scheduled on BODS running smoothly and absolutely fine.
But to check, i am logging into the admin console and check for the jobs status.
I would like to have an email to be received from BODS after each job is finished.
It could succuessful. Or it could fail.
Whatsoever, i wish to receive an email alert as soon as a job is finished.
Can anyone advise me as to whether this could be made possible.
And if yes, how this could be done.

In BOE CMC / for webi / schedule / we find an option to send email for a job success or a job failure.
Is there any option similar to that in BODS ?
Also would like to know :
how to use the smtp_to or mail_to functions ?
how to set up the smtp server for this ?

Hi.
Since am new to this BODS. I need some help.
I already have many jobs which are running absolutely fine.
And when a job runs, and finishes, am able to see the trace saying
e.g. :
Job_abc is completed successfully.
We got the smtp service activated for our test server.
and we hae a group email id.
I have put the details of the smtp server / ip address / and said apply restarted.
The i created a simple test script as below :
print (' Before email ' );
smtp_to('abc@company_name.com', 'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has FAILED',
' the job has failed', 0, 0);
print('After Email ');
It does send a email to as per smtp_to whatever email is specified.
But how to differentiate between a job success
And a job which has failed.
I wish to have a mail which says on the subject :
'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has completed successfully'
==> IF it is a success
OR
'Job ' || job_name() ||' on ' || host_name() || ' has failed'
==> if it has failed
How to make the system identify, whether
to send a success message or a error message whatever
Could anyone advise.

FEP 2010 - Email alerts not sended (Test-Emails are Successful)

Hello,
I got a FEP 2010 environment that is integrated with SCCM 2007.
The "Test email alert" is sent successfull. But there is no email-alert sent when a FEP-client gets MallWare. (The MallWare is only removed and this is shown in the event viewer of the client
& the reports on the FEP Server).
Worth to meantion is that the Alerts stopped to work after a reinstall of IIS and Reporting Services.
In the Event Viewer of the server running FEP, the "Forefront Endpoint Protection" log keep saying:
Error, FepSrv, 3004
Alerts manager failed
Error recieved:
MalwareDetectionAlertResultComputerName
And one/two minutes later it says:
Information, FepSrv, 3005
Alerts manager succeeded after failure
I have tried the "FEP Best Practices Analyzer (BPA)" and I got the result "0 items NonCompliant" and it showed that Alerts where configured correctly.
I don't know what more to troubleshoot, do you have any ideas?

Thank you for the answer, but the SQL Agent is up and running and there's no errors..
The workflow seems to work properly, except the "FEPSrv" who can't find events that would trigger alerts.
(If I run a report on the FEP-server, the report contain info about the clients who's been exposed to MalWare - And MalWare info)
The "Update Rollup 1 for forefront endpoint protection 2010" ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26583 ) has not been implemented, can this be
a possible reason to why the alerts not function properly?

Email alerts in process chain

I am trying to send email alerts (messages (sucess/Failure) thru my process chain , I gave the correct email -id a , but I'm not getting an email, after I schedule it, to I have to make any settings with Basis team?? Can some one share what are the initial steps , which have to be taken ??.

Please follow the below steps
Would like to share this information regarding email alerts whenerrors occur in Process Chains.Step by step process to follow:
1. go to ALRTCATDEF
2. select classification "Process Chains"
3. click on display/change
4. double-click on "error in a process of a process chain"
5. click on "fixed recipients"
6. write in your username (you have to maintain your e-mail address in SU01 for that to work)
7. save
8. go to your process chain (rspc)
9. go into edit mode
10. from the menu, select Process chain -> attributes -> alerting
11. check "send alerts if errors occur"

Email alerts in x4500

Hi,
I am trying to setup email alerts on x4500 with Solaris 10 as OS. Is there any way that I could get the alerts in case of any hardware failures. I just found that one of the PS is not working. But that I was able to find out when I went to the server room physically. It would be good if someone could tell me the way to setup email alerts for that.

If you have a Sun Fire x4500 that's quite easy to configure alert notifications on hardware failure
as it integrates an ILOM. With this Service Processor, you can configure different alert types :
IPMI PET alerts, SNMP traps alerts and mails notifications.
To do this, the easiest way is to connect via the admin web page : http:\\yourILOMname

Email alerts from CER

We just deployed Cisco Emergency responder (ver.7.1.1) and the email alerts are not being sent to the site contacts when an emergency call is placed. I have a vailid SMTP server and sourece ID set up in the CER group and when I go into the OS administration it tells me that "The SMTP service is available" I have looked in the admin guide for trouble shooting email alerts and it dosen't give me much. I have looked through the event logs as well and don't see any failures. Is there a way to test the email function of CER without generating a call to the PSAP? If this log file that Imay have over looked that will show me the staus or results of emails sent from CER?

If the SMTP server that you are sending the mail to does not allow relay, you probably won't see an error; The mail will just be dropped. Does the alert via phone call work? How about pager?

Email alert to User on Outlook When their SAP user account is locked

In a effort to reduce overhead to User Admin team, we are planning to automate notifications to SAP user.
Requirement Is: Email alert user when their account is locked on SAP for whatever reason.
I did some research on help sites, and I read people saying this is acheivable and ABAP+Security team can make it happen. Before I take this route I want to hear suggestions from our native SDN experts.

Purpose of Sending the mail in outlook.
I believe the reason is additional security. If for example the login is attempted by some other person and the account gets locked then the user will be notified on outlook and he will get alerted.
How to Achieve this?
Since implicit enhancement does not works in FG SUU0 (due to it being a part of central basis), this can be achieved through modification in the FM SUSR_USER_MAINT_WITH_DIALOG which can be used to code for LOCK and UNLOCK both.
This modification will be useful only if the user is locked and unlocked by the BASIS administrator using transaction SU01.
However, to achieve the automated email notification when the account gets locked due to multiple login failure you have to utilize the CCMS functionality.
You need to create your own Auto-reaction method under MTE class 'R3SyslogSecurity'.
This method will use your custom Function Module where you can set the user's email ID for the notification to be sent.

Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 not send email alert when link down

Hello everyone
I use PI to monitor 1 switch and 1 firewall . When a link up/down on switch , PI immediately sends an email alert .
But when a link up/down on FW , PI not send any email alert . PI knows link up/down on a FW is a critical alarm ( it's show up on "Alarm Browser") , but not send email.
I enable all SNMP trap on FW , i tested that event on SolarWinds and it immediately sends an email alert . So there is no problem about FW config

Causes of Errdisable
This feature was first implemented to handle special collision situations in which the switch detected excessive or late collisions on a port. Excessive collisions occur when a frame is dropped because the switch encounters 16 collisions in a row. Late collisions occur after every device on the wire should have recognized that the wire was in use. Possible causes of these types of errors include:
A cable that is out of specification (either too long, the wrong type, or defective)
A bad network interface card (NIC) card (with physical problems or driver problems)
A port duplex misconfiguration
A port duplex misconfiguration is a common cause of the errors because of failures to negotiate the speed and duplex properly between two directly connected devices (for example, a NIC that connects to a switch). Only half-duplex connections should ever have collisions in a LAN. Because of the carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) nature of Ethernet, collisions are normal for half duplex, as long as the collisions do not exceed a small percentage of traffic.
There are various reasons for the interface to go into errdisable. The reason can be:
Duplex mismatch
Port channel misconfiguration
BPDU guard violation
UniDirectional Link Detection (UDLD) condition
Late-collision detection
Link-flap detection
Security violation
Port Aggregation Protocol (PAgP) flap
Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) guard
DHCP snooping rate-limit
Incorrect GBIC / Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) module or cable
Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) inspection
Inline power
Note: Error-disable detection is enabled for all of these reasons by default. In order to disable error-disable detection, use the no errdisable detect cause command. The show errdisable detect command displays the error-disable detection status.
