Email handling: ICI vs. SAPconnect

Hi All,
I understand CRM 7.0 offers two ways of processing emails:
- ICI push
- SAPConnect pull
(apart from the hybrid option ERMS push).
My question is about the email content in the ICI push option. Does the content is stored in the connected CTI system or in CRM?

Hello Mario,
When using ICI for the so called "push" mode, the actual email itself is stored on the external CMS (Communication Management Software) server such as Genesys, Avaya, SAP BCM, etc. Only the ID of the email is saved in SAP CRM system. When a user clicks on the email ID (of an ICI email) in the activity clipboard of an Interaction Record (Activity) or in the business context of a service ticket, the system tries to retrieve the actual email from the external CMS server. If the email still exists on the CMS (i.e., has not been deleted) the email content can be displayed. If the email was deleted on the external CMS server, then an error message is returned to the user.
When using the SAP Connect for the various Agent Inbox/ERMS "pull" options, the emails are stored in SAP CRM. Technically it's rather complicated as the emails themselves are not actually stored, but rather the emails are converted into workflow and SAPoffice documents, which are stored in various places and tables.

    Thanks for quick response.
    The way I want to handle emails is to route them directly from SAP BCM to a logged on agent with a screen pop (like a telephone call). Emails will not be recieved in agent inbox. The routing capabilities are on SAP BCM side.
    In standard IC roles, for example IC_AGENT, in SAP CRM I can handle emails routed directly from BCM, such as telephony and chat.
    But I'm not sure if I can do this in CEBP scenario, where I use usual business roles like salespro. All documentation I've read was about using telephony in CEBP and nothing said about emails. So the question appeared.

  • E52 email handling

    I've been trying to find a solution to my e52 concern but haven't found any yet on the discussion boards or elsewhere. As background, I upgraded from the e51 where I was happy with the email handling.
    With the e52 my issues are:
    1. no indicator for connecting to an access point
    2. no indicator for the number of emails being downloaded and download progress
    3. no provision for send a copy of my email to myself
    4. seems to download full email after you open the email to read
    In no. 1, the e52 doesn't seem to have any visual indicator that it is attempting to connect to an access point whether it is a wifi access point or a mobile service like hsdpa or gprs. after you click on connect, you wait and it tells you if you are connected. but there is no visual indication of the phone is connecting or not.
    In no. 2, unlike the e51, the e52 doesn't seem to have an indicator to show how many total emails are to be downloaded and its current progress. this is frustrating in the sense that you don't know how long you will be waiting or what to expect.
    In no. 3,  the e51 had an option you chould check to show whether you wanted to send a copy of your sent emails to yourself. the e52 has no such option that i can find.
    In no. 4, i've gotten used to the e51 where you specify how much of each email the phone downloads when you connect such as 1 to 4 kb. i know that you can set the same in the e52 but in the e52, when you open the email to read what's been downloaded, the e52 automatically starts to download the entire email. this is something i don't want it to do.
    i've downloaded the latest software for the phone but it has not addressed any of the issues i've mentioned.
    it's a shame because the phone has quite a nice form. is there anyone out there who can help answer my issues with its function?

    I'm very unsatisfied with the built in email software as well, especially considering the E52 is supposed to be a smart phone. What bothers me mainly is the dismal IMAP support (i.e. no option for copying a sent message to a user defined folder on the IMAP server).
    I tried ProfiMail, it's not free but does have a lot more features. There's a 30 day demo version.

    Okay, now that I'm in the right forum I see that this seems to be an ongoing problem.  I checked the antivirus and that didn't do anything.  
    I did change the port from 25 to 587 and that seems to have opened up the outgoing emails.  They've seemed to been sent since they're no longer in the outbox. 
    BUT...now I can't seem to receive emails.  Ugh......
    I ran the Verizon email fix app and it says it couldn't send an email now and I should call the 800 #.  What the heck is going on here when everything was working perfectly before?!

    Gurus, is there some functionality in OCS, helping to handle bounce back email. If there isnt, is there any workaround for the issue. Thanks, Howard.

    Hi,
    OCS default install bounces back alot of mail as it rejects anything from a domain it cant do a reverse dns lookup on. This issue can be resolved with two patches
    these are 2863557 and 2864009(these patches are for core dumps but they do fix this issue). These need to be applied after all the other patches (patchset 1, webmail patches, and bundled patchsets). Let me know if you want further details of these.

  • Itunes 7.4.1.2 requires outlook as default email handler

    I prefer to use outlook express for email. After installing the latest version of itunes (7.4.1.2) I get multiple warning dialog boxes that outlook is NOT the default mail handler. Despite progress shown on the itunes screen neither calendar or contacts sync.
    If I change the mail handler from outlook express to outlook 2003 sych seems to work but I am forced to use outlook for email instead of express which is what I prefer.
    I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled several times following the procedure described in the apple help pages but I am still stuck.

    same is the case with me. Earlier it was working fine. i have gone to the extent of not enabling access to outlook express so that it doesn't run on the computer still it is giving problems

  • Email handler preferences

    how can I change the email prefrence so not to group all the same subject matter in one email? Also how can I turn off the auto-correct spell check, but still allow spell check as I type with multiple spelling options for a mis spelled word. In otherwords how can I get it to do the same thing I had in the previous OS versions?

    in the mail/preferences/viewing options and uncheck where is says to include related messages under the view conversations section . quit the mail app and reopen it for the change to take affect.
    as for the spelling options the only ones available are in the mail/prefs/composing section

  • Change Default iCal email invite handler

    Right now in iCal, when I want to invite someone to a meeting, it wants to open Mail and send it out through that. Problem is I don't use Mail. I use Gmail via the Chrome browser. Is there any way to change the default email handler to Gmail?
    Or at the very least, is there a way to turn off Mail, because it's annoying when I accidentally hit invite and it has to open up Mail and then I close it down?

    Invites work by iCal sending a small calendar file (.ics) via a mail client. Using web based email (like the Gmail website) is not a mail client. You are logging into the mail server directly using a web browser like Chrome.
    If you want to use the invite feature of iCal you need to use Mail or some other mail client software (Entourage, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc.)
    Have you considered just checking your Gmail using Mail? Thats what I do. You can still use Google Chrome to check your email if you want to. Just setup Mail with your Gmail account so it can handle sending / receiving iCal invites.

  • ERMS email push: problem with CAD and transfer

    We implement ERMS email push scenario: email is received on SAPconnect, processed by ERMS, pushed to CMS (Genesys) and routed back to CRM. We are able to receive the action item and the email pops upon Accept; however:
    1/ we are not able to access CAD submitted by CMS (the format of the CAD is correct)
    2/ when we try to transfer the action item we get an error message: "CRM_IC_APPL_UI_CHMSG   023   Function cannot be executed; cannot retrieve contact"
    We've done a bit of debugging and we've noticed there is no handling implemented for itemchannel = 'action' in IF_CRM_IC_EVENT_LISTENER~HANDLE_EVENT class CL_ICCMP_CCS:
            CASE itemchannel.
              WHEN cl_crm_ic_mcm_contact=>c_channel_telephony.
                CREATE OBJECT contact
              WHEN cl_crm_ic_mcm_contact=>c_channel_email.
                  CREATE OBJECT email

    It describes pretty well all the steps required to enable ERMS.
    For ERMS Email Push you need to ensure your policy rule has two mandatory actions (you'd define them as last ones):
    - Push Email to ICI
    - Route Email
    Note: that means that once the email is pushed to ICI it still needs to be dispatched within CRM i.e. the associated WF needs to be assigned somwhere.
    In addition: the system neesd to know to which CMS the action item should be pushed. You need to define it in CRMM_BCB_ADM with CMS ID = ERMS_ACTION.

    Acrobat communicates with default email client which set on the machine.

  • Email document distribution PDF attachment conversion error

    I have configured document distribution via emai with an attachment. My DMS documents have a single PDF original attachment.
    The email transmits fine through SAPConnect, however when I open the attachment Adobe tells me the file cannot be opened, and is corrupt.
    The issue seems to be in SAPConnect conversion, converting BIN to PDF. Any suggestions on the conversion function module or sample code for a fm to do the conversion are appreciated.

    Further please check the following settings which helped to solve      
    such issue in the past successfully:                                                                               
    1. Go to transaction : FILE                                            
    2. Select DOCUMENT_DISTRIBUTION                                        
    3. Double click on "Syntax group definition"                           
    4. You will find the file length defined for "WINDOWS NT               
    5. Change the length value to 70.                                      
    6. Also for As/400 change the length to 40.

  • When I send an email, it won't put a copy in my "Sent" folder, can I fix this?

    I have selected to put a copy in my "Sent" folder, and occasionally it will do it just, blip, blip, almost instantly.
    Then most of the time it spends a minute or two trying to put a copy in the sent folder, says there was an error in doing so do I want to "try again", but trying again doesn't work. Only way to get rid of the "write" page is to say don't try. I hope somebody knows how to fix that. I'd sure like to. It seems to have actually
    sent the message, but no copy in the sent folder to assure me of that. If I put my own address with another email handler and the Bcc checked, I get the sent message, but still no copy in my sent folder. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks, D.Fox

    No you're not doing anything wrong. Thunderbird looses the ability to move messages to folders on some random schedule. For me it usually only happens once every 10 days or so though I did go through a period where it was happening daily. Others have it happen all the time. There have been lots of threads spread out over months. Many people post that they did "something" and "something" it fixed it, but a few days later they come back and say "Whoops - spoke too soon!".
    I think all we can do is hope someone finds it and fixes it someday.

  • Automating ADHOC query reports to generate Emails

    Hope you guys are doing fine.
    I have a requirement where we need to automate the ADHOC query reports to trigger emails with the Excel attachment of the report to a set of users.
    To explain in detail,we have some adhoc queries which are run manually on monthly basis(by our functional guys).Once the output report is generated,they used to download them into Excel document and send that to a set of users as an email attachment.
    Now we are planning to automate the entire process,so that these query reports once set to run on monthly basis should trigger emails to set of users with the excel attachment.
    Now,i am looking for solution on how to proceed on this.Since the program behind the query(which starts with AQ*) is not be a modifiable program,i can write any custom code here.Alternately,i planned to set a background job which runs the query and then use a  custom pgm which reads the spool no for the pgm and then to read the data from the spool into an internal table and then use a FM to send the internal table data as an email attachment.But wasn't sure of what FM's to use to read the spool no. and data from the spool.
    Is there any alternate way to work on this or any suggestions on my assumed process would be really appreciated.

    Ok, here's what you do:
    - Go to T/C: SQ01 and find your query
    - From the menu at the top select Query>More functions>Display Report Name (copy the report name)
    - Go to Transaction SO23 and create a new shared distribution list - give it a name and title, click the dropdown on folder and click the create folder button, give the folder a name and save/green tick.
    - Click on the Dist. list content tab and enter all the external email addresses that the report should go to ( the recipient type should be internet address or via internet or something like that)
    - Go to Transaction SM36 and click on the Job wizard button, go through the wizard entering the program name we copied earlier. In the print parameters section make sure it is set to print immediately, then on the spool list recipients button select the dropdown box, select distributions lists and find the one you created earlier. Define the variants, periods, time etc etc
    - When the job runs it will process the output via SAPConnect (transaction SCOT) you will be able to see the status of the emails by going to transaction SCOT and selecting the menu option Utilities>Overview send requests.
    Job Done, Chillax
    PS: remember the output type of the query in SQ01 needs to be set to excel or whatever you require otherwise a PDF/html attachment will be created in the email.
    PPS: If SAPConnect is not set up in your system speak to your basis guy to set it up - If you don't have any basis resource, it is really easy to set up, plenty of guides around.

    I've some servlet applications that posted by HTML forms with file attachements and other HTML fields.
    I want to add email support to my servlets. So, users should be able post and recieve their data by emails.
    But, I don't want to add email handling tasks to the current servlet applications. I need a middleware application between end users and my servlets that converts emails to servlet requests, and servlet responses to emails.
    Here are the steps:
    1- End user sends email with attachments.
    2- Emailed data is converted to servlet request by a middleware application.
    3- Servlet request is processed by my current servlets.
    4- Servlet response is sent to middleware application.
    5- Middleware application emails servlet reponse to end user as email.
    If I can do that, I will not have to add emailing codes to my current servlets. do you know a product doing that ? Or, can you give me a direction ?
