Embed Fonts in Library for use with AS2.0 (k)

I'm working on a project that will never run on the web. It's
a souped
up PowerPoint presentation basically. Entirely in flash.
I have a lot of ActionScript in there for animating text. The
ActionScript reads what's housed in the text="MY MESSAGE
HERE" and then
chops the phrase up into individual dynamic text fields
containing each
letter in the message that I then animate to get them on the
screen.
It works great and I have chosen the font via a _global
variable:
_global.FontFace = "ElanBook";
This calls the font from my computers font library, not the
Flash's.
I would like to change this so that this font is truly
embedded and
called in via ActionScript so that font looks the same on all
computers
whether they have this font or not.
I have tried going to the Library > New Font...
I put the font in there I turned on Exporting for
ActionScript in
Linkage. No dice.
How do I apply a font that is sitting in my library to a
dynamic text
field through ActionScript. I has to be through ActionScript
because the
dynamic text field does not exist until ActionScript creates
it.

Just had to move it down below where the calculations for
width were
made. It works!

  • Exporting Of Entire Library for use with Tversity and PS3

I'm a recent Mac owner and my background is windows. I have a setup at home where all my photos are backed up to a windows server which uses tversity to distribute photos etc to my PlayStation 3 for display on my television. I want to use the Mac as the source for my photos. Having imported all my photos into iPhoto I have realised that my standard concept of organising all my photos into folders based on the month they were taken is perhaps outdated and iPhoto creates it's own library. I still want to be able to view the photos on the PS3 so somehow need to get the files back to my windows PC.
    I have the following questions:
    1. Is there any software that will keep the iPhoto library in sync with another external folder structure, making changes as necessary when photos are added/modified? (This is a long shot I know).
    2. Assuming not can I export the entire library to the windows PC? If I can what happens to the folder structure and file names? Is it possible to export just changes from a point in time?
    3. Are exported photos always the latest version of the photo including any edits that have been made?
    4. I'm struggling to understand how Albums, Projects and Events relate to the underlying folder structure that I am used to. I prefer to have the photos organised into smaller folders by month, preferably with the date and time in the filename. Is there a way to force iPhoto to maintain this type of structure?
Apologies if any of these are stupid questions. I've had a good look through the forums and can't find any answers that address this issue.

iPhoto has no cross platform ability at all. It may well not be the app for you.
    1. Is there any software that will keep the iPhoto library in sync with another external folder structure, making changes as necessary when photos are added/modified? (This is a long shot I know).
    No.
    2. Assuming not can I export the entire library to the windows PC? If I can what happens to the folder structure and file names? Is it possible to export just changes from a point in time?
You can export the files easily using the File -> Export command. A app like *_[Iphoto To Disk|http://www.Iphototodisk.com>_* will help automate the process for you.
    3. Are exported photos always the latest version of the photo including any edits that have been made?
No, not always. If you choose 'Originals' in the export dialogue that's what you'll get.
'm struggling to understand how Albums, Projects and Events relate to the underlying folder structure that I am used to.
They don't. When you import photos to iPhoto they are stored in folders that reflect the Events in the iPhoto Window. But if you move files between Events in the iPhoto Window that's not reflected in how the files are stored on the HD. Albums are virtual, they are entirely constructs of the iPhoto Database. They have no corresponding folders on the HD at all. This is why a photo can be in 100 albums and use no extra disk space at all.
I prefer to have the photos organised into smaller folders by month, preferably with the date and time in the filename. Is there a way to force iPhoto to maintain this type of structure?
    No.
The point of iPhoto is that it's about managing Photos not Files. The idea is to let iPhoto store the files and for you to forget about them and get on with organising the photos. You do all your work in the iPhoto Window and iPhoto tracks the relationship between what you decide and the actual files.
What you can do is run a Referenced Library.
*I strongly caution you against doing this because you are inexperienced with Macs and iPhoto*
It's a limited way to meet your requirements. You can decide how to store the unedited photos only. You still have no access to the edited ones except via iPhoto. Really, the best this offers is some comfort for people who have a burning need to see where the files are on the HD. It offers no functionality.
    That said:
    *How to do it:*
Simply go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import'.
    *What Happens:*
Now iPhoto will not copy the files, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file. It will still create a thumbnail and, if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
    *Some things to consider:*
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures. You have to to put the files where they will be stored before importing them. When you delete them you'll need to remove the files from the HD yourself.
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
    4. Because iPhoto has no tools for managing Referenced Files, if, for some reason, the path to the photos changes then you could find yourself resolving aliases for +each photo in the Library+ one by one.
    My own opinion:
I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organiser
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Best drum loops for use with Logic? Ease of use, usability, etc.

    Hi,
I have BFD2 but find it slow to load and sometimes clumsy auditioning loops within Logic. I love the Apple Loops library but I wondered if people are importing MIDI drum files for use with Logic. Do all drum files use the same MIDI mapping? If I drop a BFD2 loop into a Logic drum virtual instrument will it work? I bought a few packs from Groove Monkee but have yet to use them with Logic. I only use them within BFD2.
I'm basically looking for a seamless way to stay within Logic to improve my workflow. It's taken me days sometimes to get a drum track right by going back and forth with BFD2. Is there a concept I'm missing that would make it easier?
    Thanks

  • Doesn't play songs, "itunes is not configured for use with mac-formatted"??

Hi, new ipod shuffle. Seems to charge fine, all indicator lights function as expected. Everything looks fine in itunes. But it doesn't play songs. I have the most recent versions of itunes and the ipod software. Re-set, updated, and restored, nothing works. Even restored using the restore utility. Re-started computer. Checked for volume control. Won't play songs. Tried different file types. Songs play fine from itunes library and from the device's library within itunes. Tried different headphones. Hooked it up to computer speakers. Turning volume all the way up on device and speakers, heard some very faint rhythmic static, so my guess is the jack socket (or whatever you call it) is just messed up, but it seems weird that it can transfer power and data to the device but doesn't work for sound...
The only other issues that have come up is that the drive disappears in explorer once it syncs with itunes. Other people who've noticed this seem to have completely different problems so I don't think it's related.
Also, I have MacDrive on my computer. And when it starts up with the ipod plugged in, MacDrive offers the message "Itunes is not configured for use with Mac-formatted ipods." It offers to automatically reconfigure itunes so it can read mac-formatted ipods. Since I've restored the device, I don't see why formatting should be an issue so I say "no."
Should I try letting macdrive do its format thing? Should I try formatting the ipod disk on the My Computer menu? Or should I just email apple and tell them the jack's busted?
    Thanks for any thoughts!

Well, I have had my iPod for about 3 years, it is a 4th generation non-video 40 GB. One day it just stopped working, and now it does not play any songs. when I turn it on it makes this odd whirring sounds that computers make when they try really hard to do something. I cannot charge it, and it is not recognized by iTunes. Also when I turn it on, I get the apple.com/ipod/support (or whatever it is) screen. Needless to say, my warranty is expired, and so I cannot do anything for it except get a new battery, or buy a new one. Is there any way to fix this problem, or anyone out there who is experiencing the same thing?
I'm having the exact same problem with my wife's iPod. However it will play about 3 seconds of a song and go onto the next song.
If there is anyone out there that can help please do!

  • How does one transfer CS5 actions for use with CS6?

CS6 installation, which was uneventful, has transferred none of my actions from my copy of CS5. The CS5 actions are located in the actions folder of the APPLICATION/PHOTOSHOP CS5/PRESETS/ACTIONS.  The "actions" folder in application support/adobe in my library is empty, and has always been so.
Only the CS6 default actions are located in the same folder for CS6.
    I use imac i7, lion.
Note that i also have CS3 and CS4 on my machine. This due to recent upgrade to CS5 and recent upgrade to LION, and my general paranoia.
Must i load each action into CS6, one at a time?
    thanks to any and all.

Re: how does one transfer CS5 actions for use with CS6?
On a Mac - There are multiple ways to do this.  I have done them both ways. In order to do this you need to know where you have your actions stored, and you can move them all at once if you have them stored in the same location.
    1. You can load an action ONE AT TIME into your actions palette by:
         A. Open up the action palette and click on the little arrow with 4 little horizontal lines next to it on the upper right corner of the actions palette.
         B. Select "Load Actions" and a Finder window will open up and you can search your computer through this window for your actions.
         C. Click on the action from the Finder window then click 'Open' at the bottom right of the finder window.
         D. To save these so that they appear every time you open up your actions palette, go back to the little arrow at the top right of the actions palette and when the drop down window opens- click on 'Save Actions'. It will select the location where the          actions are currently stored as the place to save them. If you want to change that path, you can do it at this time in the little path window.  I just leave it, since I keep all my actions stored in the same file.
    2. TO MOVE MULTIPLE ACTION SETS AT ONCE
         A. Open up CS6 (or CS5) and move the Photoshop workspace it to the right side of your computer screen so you can see your desktop on the left side.
         B. Open up your Finder search window from your dock (the square blue head icon thingy for those who are new to photoshop). Move this to the left side of your screen so you can see the Photoshop work space on the right and the Finder window          on the left. In the Finder window, navigate to the file where all your actions are stored, select all the actions in the file (command+A will select everything in the file if you are actively inside the open file) or you can select multiple files           individually by continuously holding down the command key and clicking on the different actions you want to move.
         C. With the Photoshop workspace visible on the right, and the actions palette open so you can see that the actions actually transferred - In the Finder window, click the selected actions you want to load and drag them over to the Photoshop           workspace.  I did this without an image open, I just dragged them onto the empty workspace.  The actions should all appear immediately in the actions palette that is open.
         D. To save these so that they appear every time you open up your actions palette, go back to the little arrow at the top right of the actions palette and when the drop down window opens click on 'Save Actions'. It will select the location where the           actions are stored as the place to save them. If you want to change that path, you can do it at this time in the little path window.  I just leave it, since I keep all my actions stored in the same file.
    I hope this helps.
and I hope there are no typos.

  • Is the component uiscrollbar for use with text fields only

Is the component uiscrollbar for use with text fields only?

Yeah, it isn't in the library, you need to call it up using code.  It is documented in the help files though, so that should help you get it into use.

  • What is the best font management software to use with CS6?

I currently use Extensis Fusion 3 but it cannot auto-activate my fonts in CS6. It looks like Fusion 5 is also limited. Is there a better font management software to use with CS6?

Get rid of Norton a/k/a Symantec. It is one of the worst pieces of trash you can install on a Mac.
You do not need any additional anti-virus software than is already designed into OS X to protect your Mac against malware. I assume you paid enough for your iMac and that's part of what you paid.
If you use Windows, or are concerned about harboring viruses that target Windows, or care about friends who use Windows, then get ClamXav. It's in the App Store and it is free.
Since friends don't let friends use Windows, I have no use for it.

    Hey guys,
I found out an answer by myself...
The missing link : the MacBook Pro needs to be powered... as in you need to plug the charger in...
In conclusion, you simply plug everything, turn on the MacBook Pro, close the lid, and there you go !

I can open files etc.  But I can't seem to write to it nor can I delete current content. I don't care if I lose current content. How do I initialize it for use with the MAC?

You can't write to it because it's formatted as NTFS which OS X will read but not write to. If you want to continue using the drive with both a PC and OS X you will need to download and install NTFS-3G so you can then write to it from your Mac. You can get NTFS-3G at:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24481/ntfs-3g
If you want to use the drive exclusively with your Mac then move the data off it and reformat it in Disk Utility (Applications - Utilities - Disk Utilities) as Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

The apple ID was his personal account and can no longer gain access. Im sure I can get purchase recipts from the accounting department if needed. I tried to put the Ipad in restore mode and used itunes to "recover" the ipad but it still wont let me in because he registered the device with the "lost iphone" feature or whatever that is.

PHones can only be unlocked from the carrier; if you're looking for an unlocked device I'd recommand buying it directly from Apple as that is the only way to promise it is, if you buy it second hand you may find it is locked to a carrier who doesn't support unlocking, or worst yet activation lock
