Embedded attachments

Hi Guys, My application requires that the Form (pdf) on submission should retain embedded attachments. But every time after an approver in the process adds a attachment by clicking the paper clip icon in the form (pdf), and adds a file as an embedded attachment. The attachment is not retained in the following activity.
Kindly advice on how to accomplish this requirement.
Note – The PDF form is applied with usage rights

Thanks Paul for your interest in this discussion.
The problem that i am currently facing is that,
Case 1 :-
when a process with workspace start point and input variable of data type document is created, the form is capable of retaining the embadded attachment(not in the envelop thats part of the workspace) that the users in the process add to the document variable.
The process fields variable that is in the form gives the User in the process with a ablity to SAVE the form to the draft, but when the form is opened in the draft, the Form does not appear in its PDF format, instead a XML is shown.
SAVE functionality does not work as expected in the above case
Case 2 :-
when a process with workspace start point and input variable of data type xml is created, the form is not capable of retaining the embadded attachment(not in the envelop thats part of the workspace) that the users in the process add to the Form
SAVE functiality provided by process fields in the form works fine in this scenario.

  • Can I get some help with embedded attachments, please?

    Hi guys,
    I am having the reverse problem with attachments, I actually *want* a file to remain embedded in an email. When my clients on PC or webmail open my e-mails, the attachment comes through no longer inline, but as an attachment that they have to click and download. It happens whether the file is a .jpg or .pdf. I have "Windows friendly Attachments" checked.
    Is there a work-around to this? I know in Outlook you can manually embed an image, but I don't want to have to buy it just to be able to work with PC clients.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    The mail servers and other factors that have been mentioned are actually rarely an issue in this case. The problem lies in Mail, which will send an HTML message with correctly embedded images only if all of the following conditions are met:
    The message format is set to "rich text" (this is how Mail calls HTML).
    The message contains actual text formatting (different styles, colors, fonts or font sizes, etc.).
    The message does not contain any attachments other than images.
    If you don't need to send embedded images very often and stick to the three above rules, it will work OK.
    If you need to send embedded images reliably without having to worry about formatting and other attachments you can try Attachment Tamer:  It's a Mail plug-in that among other things allows you to send embedded images reliably. It always sends attachments as they are displayed (images displayed in place are sent as embedded images, any files displayed as icons as regular attachments). You set up how you prefer files to be displayed and attached and default, and then adjust individual attachments as needed. Unlike Thunderbird, Attachment Tamer isn't free, but it costs just a few bucks and integrates with Apple Mail seamlessly (and there is of course a free trial version).
    (The forum conditions require me to say that I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link. Indeed, I'm the developer of Attachment Tamer.)

  • Mail not displaying embedded attachments correctly

    Hello all,
    I have a strange problem that I can't seem to find any information on anywhere. Whenever I receive a photo or pdf embedded in an email message, I get this:

    And this goes on and on and on. Mail won't display any of this stuff correctly. I have HTML enabled in my mail settings. What else can I try to fix this issue?

    So your Gmail account works fine for you when you just view it on the web through your browser, but you have this problem with attachments when you set up Apple Mail to view your Gmail account, is this correct? Just trying to clarify.
    I'm not sure what's going on. I use Apple Mail with my cable ISP's email service and I use Yahoo and Gmail both, but I strictly view them using the web based interface. I've never tried to set up either one to be viewed in Apple Mail so I don't think I can offer much advice.
    Correct me if I've wrongly assumed something about your question.

    Steve M.

  • Forwarded embedded attachments are not readable.

    Hi. Whenever I forward an email with embedded photos or pictures, to a windows user the pictures are so small they cannot be viewed. I have ' always send windows friendly attachments checked' also 'put attachments at end of message', although because these are embedded, I don't have any choice where they go. I have forwarded an email with embedded attachment to a friend with a mac and he has sent that email to the same receiver and it comes out alright. Nobody seems to have a solution. Is there a setting I can change or is my new mac on it's last legs?!!! Thanks in anticipation of any help.

    Forwarding is always likely to scramble attachments. Try Apple Mail's "Send Again" function, if possible.

  • Embedded attachments mountain lion

    Hi all,
    When I mail attachments, some are embedded in the mail message window istself, while others are attached in the usual manner, i.e. they show up as icons. This is particularly so with pdf and jpg files. Windows apps are attached as icons though. I want to stop this because it is rather frustration if I send multiple pdf files.
    Any help?

    Once you have the PDF file(s) attached, place your mouse pointer over each PDF image. With the right mouse button, choose the menu item, View as Icon. Conversely, you can choose, View in Place.
    Unfortunately, I have not found a setting within Mail 6.0, that would make View as Icon, the default behavior for image or PDF file attachments.

  • Embedded attachments crash Mail

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Do you have any Mail plug-ins? In the Finder, go to each of the following folders (if they exist). What do you see there?
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/Mail/Bundles/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/Mail/Bundles/
    Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

    Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
    The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
    After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with the computer:
    About the Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update
    Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for PowerPC
    Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update for Intel
    After installing the Combo Update, the computer may restart twice and the first restart may take several minutes. This is normal.
    Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
    Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk and back up before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Embedded Attachments in BI Publisher Report

    Is it possible to embed attachments (like other Word docs, etc.) into a BI Publisher Report?  When viewing the report as PDF for example, the user would be able to double-click the attachment and open it up in the native client.  If it is possible, how is this achieved?

    look at drill-down report as in example Oracle BI Publisher Consulting: Drill Down to Detail or Another Report

  • PDF form not submitting after embedding attachments.

    Hi,
    In my process one user open the PDF forms, fills form and submit it to the next user. All was working fine. I have used Submit as XDP option while designing the pdf form. Later on I needed to attach files. But after attaching files my form is not being submitted. Help.
    Abhinav

    Which version of Acrobat? Are you using a custom script for the email button, or just the Acrobat action to submit the form? Have you closed and re-opened Outlook and Acrobat to see if that fixes it? Could the submit button have been marked "readonly" on the general tab by mistake?

  • GetMime method skips embedded OLE attachments

    Hi All,
    I added an embedded attachment to a message (tried with bitmap) and used the GetMime method to get the MIME for the message. The generated mime doesn't have any attachments.
    I tried to save the file using Attachment.Save method, which does produce an output file. But when I try to open the generated file in Microsoft Paint it gives an error "Paint cannot read this file. This is not be a valid bitmap file"
    I tried the same exercise with an embedded wordpad document, saved the attachment using Attachment.Save. When I try to open the file in wordpad I see lots of garbled charachters and square boxes along with the text.
    Any inputs on the correct method of interpreting/saving embedded attachments would be helpful.

  • Downloading text attachments that are sent as inline

    Every time I receive a text attachment (eg .txt, .csv, etc) from someone sending from Windows (outlook or thunderbird) it is displayed in Mac Mail as inline text. When I look at the raw source, the files have "Content-Disposition: inline;" which, while displaying inline, should still be shown in the list of attached files (ie, under "Reply-To"), but isn't. I have searched and can't find any settings that allow me to save the attachment.
    What can I do (besides telling the client to re-send the file inside a zip, for example)? The files have formatting that is lost when just copying and pasting.

    Did you also confirm if the sender used HTML for message composition since it sounds like the sender used HTML and the attachments are embedded?
    Embedded attachments are not true attachments to the message.

  • Adding attachments to a dynamic form

    Hi there,
    I am creating a dynamic PDF form and I would like users to be able to attach a file (e.g. a word file, photos) to the dynamic form.
    Once the form is completed and returned (in PDF format) I want the person reviewing the form to be able to open the embedded attachments.
    If this possible?
    Many thanks for you help in advance
    Lee

    The user can add attachments by clicking the paper clip icon.
    If you mean you want to add attachments through script or associated with a form field, below is an example where a form check box triggers adding an attachment. It adds an attachment with a description pulled from the caption of the check box. My check box captions end in : which is stripped.
    //Change event of check box
    {variable object in Heirarchy}.attachmentCheck(this, event.target);
    //code in variable object
    function attachmentCheck(checkField, myDoc) {
              var descrip = checkField.parent.nodes.item(0).value.resolveNode("#text").value;
              descrip = descrip.substr(0, descrip.length - 1);
              //app.alert("\"" + descrip + "\"");
              if (checkField.rawValue == "1"){
                        var cancel = true;
                        myDoc.importDataObject(descrip);
                        try {
                                  var objDoc = myDoc.getDataObject(descrip);
                                  objDoc.description = descrip;
                                  cancel = false;
                        } catch (e) {}
                        if (cancel){
                                  checkField.rawValue = 0;
              } else {
                        mBoxResult = xfa.host.messageBox("Unchecking will delete the attachment.", "Confirmation", 2, 1);
                if (mBoxResult == 1) {
                                  var obj = myDoc.dataObjects;
                                  for (var i = 0; i < obj.length; i++){
                                            //app.alert("\"" + obj[i].description + "\"");
                                            if (obj[i].description == descrip) {
                                                      //app.alert(obj[i].name);
                                                      myDoc.removeDataObject(obj[i].name);
                } else {
                                  checkField.rawValue = 1;

  • I would like to convert convert PDF attachments to PDF.

    For example we have word files that are embedded as attachments inside PDF files that are in native format (docx). I need to have them converted to PDF. Is this possible?

    Rob,
    There is a great way to do that, but it requires a third-party plug-in to achieve the automation you're after.  It's called AutoPortfolio and is available from an Adobe Solution Partner called Evermap.  One of its many capabilities is the conversion of email contained in a Portfolio (Portfolios are the key ingredient here), which already contains the embedded attachments as a result of conversion from Outlook or Lotus Notes with Acrobat, to a standard or "flat" PDF.  As part of this process, it gives you the option to extract any embedded attachments and convert them to PDF, after which they will appear as an additional page in the resulting flat PDF file.  Nested bookmarks are also created as part of this process for both the parent email and each attachment.
    Although you are only referring to a single email, this process can be applied to extremely large Portfolios, up to the limitations of your computer's RAM and CPU.  It has several other uses, but the process you are referring to is a flagship feature.
    Disclosure:  I have no affiliation of any kind with Evermap, but did address the use of several of their products in my book, "The PDF Litigation Guide."
    Hope that helps!

  • Stripping Attachments from Mail messages.

    Does anybody know of a utility for stripping out attachments from Mail messages so as to save storage space?

    Hey thanks for the suggestions.
    Firstly, embedded attachments can be dragged out of the email messages on Windows as they can on OS X.
    Getting our clients to work like this could be difficult as they all have 1024px screens and from what we've seen they always have their windows maximised (in fact most Windows users seem to do this). But we'll suggest it.
    Secondly, when you next plan to make an attachment be sure to use the menu or toolbar option for selecting an attachment. When the Choose File dialog appears you will see a checkbox in the lower left labeled "Use Windows friendly attachments." Be sure that option is checked.
    We do this but it still doesn't seem to work - maybe their MailMarshal software is causing this?
    Thirdly, be sure any attachment you send has the proper extension. For example, PDF files should have ".pdf", and JPEGs should have ".jpg" or ".jpeg" in order to be consistent with what Windows applications expect.
    Yes, we do this.
    Fourthly, often certain documents on OS X do not have an extension or the extension is slightly different, for example, Word documents may be ".docx" on the Mac, but need to be ".doc" in order for Word for Windows to open the document by double-clicking.
    Have come across this also.
    Fifthly, ZIP files should not normally be confused with junk. Your IT department may need to consider making some changes to their email filtering software.
    We don't have an IT department, and based on recent conversations with their IT guys, they're definitely not interested in taking suggestions on email security from Mac users!
    Will see how we go with getting our clients to work differently but I'd personally prefer to sort it our end - from their point of view it's a Mac issue and from what I can see I think they might be right.

  • How Can I Export Our WIki in a CSV Format?

    Victims of our own success: what was originally created as internal content on our private OS X Server wiki now is being requested for presentation on an externally hosted web service. Management wants this content to be accessible to constituents on the outside in a searchable database on a completely different service not administered by us on the inside.
    The developer building the database has asked for this content to be exported in CSV for easy import into the new database: page title, tags (a.k.a. keywords, not to be confused with HTML formatting tags), and page content.
    Sadly, according to the Wiki Server Admin Guide (p. 73), the Wiki service does not appear to store page content in any kind of database, but rather in separate files. Thus I can't see a way to provide the requested data short of copying and pasting content from each individual wiki page on the OS X Server.
    Considering that we're talking about ~200 pages of content, I'd like to avoid a manual process of that kind. I've been through the official Wiki Server Admin Guide, but it offered no help for exporting content in the way I need.
    I'm fairly comfortable with AppleScript, less so with shell/bash scripting. Since I'm trying to save time, I'm not sure that's my answer on this scale. Debugging a script (for me) might take longer than a simple copy/paste of 200 items (maybe I'm wrong).
    Does anyone have a different way of looking at this I haven't thought of? Am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance,
    Axiom

    Unfortunately, exporting the wiki data into a format that databases can understand is not a trivial process. Pages are stored as a collection of folders that contain the wiki text, the HTML for display, the change history, the comments, and the attachments.
    In a default setup, the page folders are under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/{groupname}/wiki . All folders under Groups can only be viewed by using root access permissions.
    For example, for a wiki page accessed by:
    http://yourserver.com/groups/general/wiki/abc12/mywikipage.html
    Under /Library/Collaboration/Groups/general/wiki
    abc12.page - folder for wiki page
    !- attachments - folder for attachments
    !- images - folder for images
    ! page.html - html (probably a cache) for display
    ! page.plist - property list file with all notes on the
    ! revisions.db - SQLite database file that contains all the revisions.
    You would need a script that runs as the _teamserver user to read every .page directory, parse the .plist files, and generate a SQL statement to preserve all the text, markup, and quotations. If you program really well, you could search for the URLs in every .plist file and record the embedded attachments and images, and copy them to another location.
    For my first project, I parsed the .plist files just to get a map of the random page URL and the title. I also found out about "deleted" and "tombstoned" states, and elected to ignore those.
    If I get a moment I'll write about that next.
