Embedded swf not playing in Captivate 4

Hi - I have embedded a flash authored swf into CP4, it is published from flash as a ver 9 swf.  I am using Flash Player 10 on the PC. It's a single frame swf and contains AS3 code to make a simple rollover image popup (further development is planned but just testing for now).  It works when viewed standalone in a browser or with the flash player
In CP4 when played by either previewing it or by publishing and viewing in a browser, the screen with that swf on it is a 'white screen of death'.  I have tried the following:
1. clicking and unclicking synchronise with project
2. click and unclick externalize animations check box in prefs - the swf file was also manually copied over to the publish directory
3. set display for "duration of animation"..also tried 'rest of slide' and 'specific time'
4. click and unclick - 'synchronise with project'
5. Set Actionscript Version in prefs to "AS3"
6. I placed another different swf (flash ver9) onto the following slide in CP4 - this one with no Actionscript content at all - just a simple timeline based motion tween.  It works!
Does anyone know if CP4 cannot accept embedded swf's with Actionscript 3 code in them?

Hi there
Oftentimes the warning about referencing Root is simply a nuisance and may be totally ignored.
I find that the animation works here on my own PC if I click Edit > Preferences... > Project node > Publish Settings node and configure for AS3.
Perhaps try that?
Cheers... Rick

  • SWF Audio not playing in Captivate

    Hi everyone,
I have created a button panel in Flash. The panel is a
recreation of an A/V control system panel used in classrooms on
campus. I am using a Captivate presentation to teach university
professors how to use the panel, so they can use technology to aide
    teaching in classrooms.
As soon as the swf loads (in flash player) a sound begins to
play. You can then press the volume and mute buttons to increase,
decrease, or mute the sound. The button panel works properly in
flash player, however, when I import the swf into Captivate and
preview or publish the slide, the sound does not play. The buttons
depress, the lights change, but no sound is heard.
    1) What, if anything, am I doing wrong?
    2) What can I do to fix it?
I've only been working with Captivate for a few months now,
so this is my first real challenge. Any help you could offer would
be great. Let me know if you need anymore information. I have
exported the swf using flash 9,8,7, and 6 and that has not solved
    the problem.

    Okay, so here's the deal,
I used a flash 6 version of the panel and exported project
into a flash 7 version. when I play it, the sound still does not
work, but here is where it gets funny:
When I exported the project to include the html I also got a
version of the project without the captivate skin. When I open
that, the sound from the 16th slide (button panel) begins to play
on the first slide and continues to play. when I get to the 16th
slide and press the volume and mute buttons, they control the sound
    perfectly.
    So,
    1. How/why is the captivate skin killing my audio?
    2. What can I do about it?
    3. How do I get the audio to start playing when I enter the
    16th slide only?

  • Embedded Quicktime not playing correctly in InDesign PDF - please help!!

ok - I have an issue that I can't work out and I'm hoping someone can help - tried searching for an answer to no avail. I've just built my first interactive PDF portfolio in InDesign. I should point out that I'm a producer/editor, so my knowledge of InDesign & Acrobat is not extensive. The PDF includes some embedded Quicktime movies. The movies play normally on one of my monitors (Samsung 1680x1050), but will not play correctly on my other two monitors (2x Samsung 1280x1024) - the audio plays and the play controller appears to be working but the video area is just all white...HOWEVER...if I open the PDF and play just one of the videos on my 1680x1050 monitor first, then all videos play correctly on all monitors. Have tried opening the PDF on another desktop and the movies do not work (in the same manner as above)- also tried on my laptop and the movies play correctly. Please help if you can - I need to get this out to clients and I'm baffled!! Thank You!

Is it as easy as wmode: transparent after shoving the swf into a table??? does the transparent option make everything outside the table dissappear? thanks...

  • Embedded Audio not playing - Flash Player 10.0.45.2

    Hi
With the recent update of the Flash player I noticed that random *.swf files containing just embedded *.wav files will not play.
    The only things that seem to fix this problem are;
Change the audio publish settings and republish
Or createa new *.fla and republish
Can anyone explain why this is happening? Is this bug temporary?
    Thanks,

Hi, the Flash forum was down in my area. Here is a link that you may just bookmark as it most likely have everything FP, just something to keep handy:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/flash_player_admin_guide.html
This is the FP Installer for Internet Explorer that you download to and run from your Desktop:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe   (Not the debugger version)
This is the FP Installer for Firefox(or other browsers that FP supports) Download to the Desktop & run from there.
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
When that Uninstaller was used for the 10.1, if I'm not mistaken it Uninstalls FP from all browsers.
I'm sure you are familiar with the ActiveX Settings and using the Administrator account to have the permissions to Install the ActiveX Control and write to the Windows Registry. Adblock in FF will need to be disabled if you use it and any pop up blocker software installed. You may want to refer to the Uninstall instructions for further info:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
You may also want to review the Troubleshooting guide to head off any issues before rather than after:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html
Usually I cover the "prep" info but since we didn't discuss that, thot I'd post it, so if you need it you have it.
If you have any questions, just post. If you want the debugger version, I'll need to find the link.
    Thanks,

  • SWF not play

Using Captivate 5, I create 2 projects. Project 1 was inserted into project 2 (as SWF)
The inserted project does not playing beyond 22 slide. Does anyone have a solution?

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Inserting a Captivate generated SWF into another Captivate file is not always a good idea. Could you explain the reason? Maybe we could find another solution for you.

  • SWF not playing in "state"...?

I have a "state" setup as a screen saver screen in my catalyst project. Within that state I have one swf file. Basic logo with some images that are sliding in from the left. I created the swf in Flash Pro CS5 and the swf plays like it should when I open it by itself.
When I run my air program my idel time takes the user to my screen saver state and the swf appears but it is not playing.
    I don't understand this.
I have made sure the swf in FC is not a button and is just the swf. I do not see an auto play or loop option.
    Need some help.
    Thank you.

I see this now. I forget that I need to tell catalyst to play the swf. I have inserted the play swf action into each possible interaction leading to the screen saver state.
    It is working now.
    Thank you much!!!

  • Background Audio not playing in Captivate 4

I imported a background audio track to my Adobe Captivate project, and I can see it in the background audio menu, however, when I preview or publish the project, it does not play.  When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there.  I have done this many times before without issue.  Any ideas?

    Hi there
I am not sure if I understood the problem correctly. I tried to add a background audio to a test project and it worked fine for me in preview and publish.
When you say "I can see it in the background audio menu" are you meaning the following?
Audio->Background Audio... ==> Audio Background Dialog opens up and the audio track is shown properly. In library, the use count of this audio is non-zero and when you right click on the audio and select usage, "Project" is listed as one of the users.
When you say "When I am in the import menu, it plays, but only there", which import menu are you taking about?
Can't the audio be played from the library preview or from audio properties dialog or from Audio Background dialog?
Do you have this problem with any project that you are creating or is the problem happening in one particular project only? If it is only a particular project, can you share the CP project?
    Cheers

  • Embedded SWFs not working with Flash 9

    Hello,
I am also plagued with the Flash Player 9 issue. None of my
embedded SWF files work if I publish with this version of the
player installed. I ran the uninstaller and I'm now using version
    8. However, each time I open a PPT file I get an error saying "some
controls on this presentation can't be activated. they might not be
registered on this computer". This is very irritating. So, my SWFs
still don't work. I found that if I register the v9 ocx and
re-insert the SWFs, they will publish properly (while the Player 8
is installed). However, I have about 50 existing PPTs with anywhere
from 10-30 SWFs per presentation. I'd like to avoid this method if
possible. Does anyone know of an easier solution? Thank you.

good morning DocDVM and Supermercado Gato,
I have the same issue with embedding SWF files into Breeze. I
have been doing some searching the last two weeks and i found an
tech note that you might want to read. It seems that Breeze is not
really set up for Flash player 9 so Adobe came up with a work
    around. Read the technote.
    http://www.adobe.com/go/f9204eb8
I am having my IT Department update Breeze for me so i will
let you know if it works or if you update your Breeze let me know
    if this fixes the issue.

  • Cap 2 - Embedded SWFs not loading

    Hey everyone...
I'm building Captivate tutorials using Cap 2. As part of
these, I'm creating separate simulations in Captivate, publishing
them, then dropping the SWFs into slides on my larger project.
So, the problem I'm having is that when I'm progressing
through the larger Captivate module, I'll get to a slide that
begins with one of the swf animations, and the slide audio will
begin and the slide progresses, but the embedded swf is still
loading. So, what happens is by the time the swf finally loads, my
main timeline has moved almost completely past the animation...so
    basically, it screws everything up.
I've tried using a preloader for the whole project, set to
100% and that didn't fix the problem, which leads me to believe
that the animations aren't actually loaded in that preloading
    process.
I've tried synchronizing the animation with the project...no
luck there. I've made sure that the embedded animations don't have
preloading of their own. Nothing seems to work.
Ideally everything would load up in the initial preloading,
but I'd settle for having each slide wait until the contents are
    completely loaded before beginning.
Any suggestions anyone might have would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks,
    jb

So I figured out a workaround for this issue, if anyone is
    interested.
I republished the Cap projects I was imbedding into the
larger project in Flash 8 format, and published the larger project
in Flash 7 format. Doing so causes the larger Cap project to
publish the Flash 8 swfs along with the rest of the published
files, and then calls to those files instead of trying to imbed the
swfs within the larger project. Works like a charm.

  • Embedding SWF Not Working Right? (FB 4.7 issue?)

Hey guys, I recently downloaded FB 4.7 and noticed something changed when compiling and running my project.
I have the following code in one of my classes.  It simply embeds a symbol from a SWF and adds it to the stage as a MovieClip:
    [Embed(source="/../lib/swfs/splash_screens.swf", symbol="Splash1")]
    private static const Splash1:Class;
    _splash1 = new Splash1();
    addChild(_Splash1);
    _splash1.play();
Now, in this MovieClip in the FLA there are two layers, one layer is a bunch of vector animation and the second layer is the background (as an imported Bitmap) - no animation.
The problem is that second layer with the background doesn't show up in my project after I've embedded and added the MovieClip to the stage, it's as if the MovieClip has a transparent background with just the first layer with all of the vector animation showing up.
    Things I've tried/noted:
The background layer is not a guide and is visible if I play the raw SWF to just see what it looks like
If I add other layers and just draw nonsense on them, etc - they do show up
If I trace the background Bitmap (turns it into vector art) it will show up
If I convert the background Bitmap to a Graphic or MovieClip and then put it on the stage, it still doesn't show up
It seems FB 4.7 is grabbing the correct symbol from the library, it's just not grabbing the background (which is also in the library, as an imported Bitmap) which I feel it should, since it's included in the MovieClip symbol
Now I understand there are workarounds that I can always use as a last resort (embedding the background JPG and adding it to the stage as a Bitmap separately at runtime), but I'd prefer to have this working correctly so if things change visually in the future, it's less work for me.
I'm pretty sure when I originally coded this when using FB 4.6 I did not have this issue (and since then nothing has changed at all, not the code or the SWF file).  This is why I'm led to believe it's either a FB 4.7 issue or maybe there's something extra I need to do to the FLA before exporting the SWF file.
    Any help appreciated!

First things first, to eliminate the silly stuff, you have a typo in the code you have there which would break things - addChild(_Splash1); should be addChild(_splash1); (capital S). Is this a copy error or is it in your actual code?

  • Flash files not playing in Captivate correctly.

I have Flash files that make up a course that play correctly in Flash but are breaking in Captivate once I import into the Publish folder. There is a button that remains active without being clicked and will not close as it is supposed to, creating obvious issues in the course. The button does not have these issues in Flash, only in Captivate.
Has anyone had an issue like this or any thoughts on how to fix it?

Is the SWF published for AS2 or AS3?  Captivate only accepts AS3 nowadays.
The other likely issue is that perhaps you have inadvertently used a symbol name for your button, or some of your AS code functions/variables etc, that happen to be reserved by Captivate for its own use.  These types of conflicts can cause issues.

  • Embedded movie not playing once imported and placed in Dreamweaver

I have created a Flash index page to be placed in a html document for publishing.  The flash document as a .SWF file with a FLV file embedded, which is an image slide show with sound track. Everything appears to work in Flash 8 when tested including links, and slide show including the sound track.  When I create the HTML file with Dreamweaver 8 and save and test the file the background appears the buttons appear to work but do not seem to navigate to the blank text pages that I have made for testing.
But the biggest problem is the FLV file does not even start the center section of the page stays black.  The clear movie controls do not appear on the screen with mouseover either.
The image slide show file is one created for me by: ANIMOTO and was downloaded as  a MP4 file.  I used Flash 8 to covert it to FLV with no problems.
Can anyone tell me if you can embed a FLV file in a swf file and then import it to the html file created with dreamweaver...???
    And if so....HOW?????
    Randy
PS.  Is the upload section going to ever work again???

Hi Amy and welcome to our community
If your sound isn't playing in preview, check the way you are
previewing. Are you using the "Play this slide" preview? If so, you
may have muted the little icon in the Timeline.
If you aren't hearing audio after you publish, check the
Publish settings. Click the Publish toolbar button, then click the
Preferences... button. Look at the dialog that should appear. Is
there a check mark in the check box option labeled: "Inclue audio
    when project is generated"?
    Cheers... Rick

  • Flash animations not playing in Captivate 5.5

When I import a swf from Camtasia 5 into Captivate 5.5, it plays when I "play slide," but not when I play "project" or "from this slide." So.... I saved it as a flv. It plays... if I click the play button, but that's not what I want.
I've used this technique many times before over the years with no problem. I create an animation in PowerPoint, record it with Camtasia, and import it into Captivate. I need to be able to do it in this version.
What has gone wrong? Thanks for any suggestions!!

If your AS2 file is working fine, chalk it up to luck and buy a lottery ticket.  Most users are NOT going to be as fortunate.  Remember where you placed it in your project though, because if you ever start seeing this project go into spasms and flicker like it was having a fit, the quickest solution will probably be to get rid of this AS2 component.
As for your other issue with the AS3 file, there may be a number of possibilities. My first guess is that your SWF is probably set up as a symbol in the Flash file and the animation is buried inside that symbol.  Due to the way Captivate 5x loads SWFs now, the animation may actually be playing in the background before you reach its slide and that means it will have finished playing by the time you get to where you want it to play.
If you want to test this theory, you'll need access to the original FLA file used to create this animation.  Try placing some piece of marker text on the final frame of the animation along with a stop(); action.  Then reinsert into your Captivate project.  If this results in you seeing the marker text on your slide at runtime, then it means the animation has completed playing before you got there.
If this is the issue, try taking the animation out of the Symbol and placing it all on the main timeline of the Flash file.  Then republish and insert back into your Captivate project.
