Enabling ARD on headless Xserve after initial setup

Hi,
I was setting up a new headless Xserve using Server Assistant and forgot to enable Apple Remote Desktop service.
Is there a way to enable ARD client service without access to the UI of the server? All I got now is Server Admin, Server Monitor and SSH access to the server.
Regards,
Darius
A whole bunch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

You can do it through the Kickstart command. See:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108030
To restart ARD:
/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/ki ckstart -restart -agent
Hope this helps.

    is it possible to restore from a backup after initial setup on my iPad air?

    You don't even have to do to an erase all content and settings.
    Just connect the iPad to iTunes. Once it appears on the left, right click on it and select restore from backup. It's that easy.

    where is the account picture stored after initial setup?

    Are you looking to change the image? If so go to system prefs, go to accounts. You'll see the image that you see at login, by clicking on it you'll be given a drop down with all the images which you can select a different right there. If you go to the root directory in the libray folder you'll see a folder user pictures they are in there. The root directory is the main device on your hardrive, you can open finder and see it listed in the sidebar. Hope this helps!

  • Anyway to restore from iCloud backup after initial setup?

    I purchased a new 5s today - my old 4s was backed up to iCloud - the store moved my contacts but I guess they skipped the cloud restore part so I don't have any of my apps - is there anyway to restore from cloud backup after initial setup?  I think I can reset it but not sure how to do it and I'm afraid of what it will delete if I reset - please help - I could reload my apps but it won't keep my data right? Thanks

    You should check to make sure that your contacts/information is in your iCloud by logging into iCloud.com. You can also plug your device into iTunes and check when the most recent iCloud backup was before restoring from it.
    If your information is there, then you can go through the activation process again pretty easily by going into Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
    Then you can just restore from your iCloud backup.

  • Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID

    Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID # be found through email linked during setup ?

    The following has some recommendations from Apple of what to do if Find My Mac was not turned on before it was lost or stolen. The quote is from If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support
    Find My Mac is the only Apple service that can help track or locate a lost Mac. If you didn’t set up Find My Mac before your Mac was lost, or you can’t locate it, these steps might help you protect your data:
    Change your Apple ID password to prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your Mac.
    Change your passwords for other accounts you use with your Mac, including email, banking, and social sites like Facebook or Twitter.
    Report your lost or stolen Mac to local law enforcement. They might request the serial number of your computer. You can find this information on the original box or receipt you received when you purchased your Mac, or on Apple's My Support Profile site if you registered your Mac.

  • Are there any issues with changing IP address of an ACS v5.3 system after initial setup?

    I am migrating from ACS v4.2.1 to v5.3.  I want the final v5.3 system to assume the IP address of the original 4.2 machine so I don't have to change any configs on the network devices.
    Are there any issues with changing the v5.3 system IP address AFTER the initial setup?

    I tried it without a problem. I changed the ip address of the WLC many times.
    You have to make sure though that:
    1-) You change the switchport accordingly to the appropriate vlan if the new ip belongs to a subnet of a different vlan.
    2-) Make sure that all AAA clients configured to use the new IP address of the ACS servers.
    Here is the procedure how to change the ip of the interface (as per cisco doc):
    http://goo.gl/0BYqVT
    I changed also by normal ip address command and it works. but of course the server must be standalone before doing that step (i.e. no secondary ACSs registered to it and it is not registered to other ACSs in a distributoin).

  • Iphone 4 syncing thru itunes stalls after initial setup

    unable to complete syncing of iphone with PC through itunes.  System goes into stall mode after initial set up

    It's weird, I also have the same problem starting from TODAY, on my iPhone 4 with iOS 6.0.1.
    FORTUNATELY for me, I had a backup file..!
    When I re-import them on MacOS X "Address Book", they appear again for then being removed when syncing with iCloud.
    Looks like there's no logic!!!
    Did someone figure this out?

  • OSX Server Mobile Account Greyed out after initial setup?

    I just setup a new install of Mountain Lion on an iMac and installed Server.app to set it up as a server.  I activated Open Directory and configured it for a few users (with NFS mounted home directories from a Linux NFS server).  I then logged into the iMac with one of these users and it asked me if I wanted to make them a mobile user.  I did as this will activate the Portable Home Directory function.  It asked me what I would like to sync and then setup the user as normal.  Now the issue I have is with any subsequent login of that user if I go to the Users & Groups sys pref panel the Mobile Account "Configure" button is greyed out.  Syncing can still work from the menu bar pull down but I can no longer change any of my sync preferences.  I've gone through the settings in default read com.apple.homeSync but nothing in there seems to affect that button being greyed out.  To eliminate the NFS server as a possible cause I setup a local network user with local storage on the server and it acts the same way after setting up as a mobile account. Any ideas on what causes this?

    I solved this myself. The user ended up have a folder on his desktop that contained a backup home folder from an old powerbook that he was trying to save. It was a complete home folder, Documents, Library, etc and I thought it might be interfering with the sync of the normal home folder. So I created a folder called Bad Stuff in the home folder and copied the old powerbook home folder into it. Then opened up the Sync Settings and excluded the Bad Stuff folder from the sync. And it worked, the sync when fine and is resyncing fine.
    Hope that helps with other people with a similar problem.

    1. Just plug them in. The drives need to be formatted as FAT16, FAT32, or Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and may need to be connected through a powered USB hub.

  • Can't figure out how to install ARD on Headless Xserve G5 running 10.4.4

    Ok, I'm getting really frustrated not being able to figure this out. I have a new Xserve G5 running 10.4.4 I have no services currently rinning on it. I have all the sever administration apps installed (also 10.4.4) But my first order of business is to install some other software on the server.
    I bought Apple Remote Desktop 2.2 Unlimited and installed the administer stuff on my powerbook.
    But When i came to seting up the sever for ARD im baffled. Most documentation refers to setting up ARD on the server though the aever admin app. But I can't find any reference to ard in server admin.
    What am I missing ?

  • Problem logging into RV110W after initial setup

    Hello Community!
    I hope someone here is familiar with RV110W setup and use. I followed the Quick Start instructions to setup this router and all appeared to be fine. I clicked "Finish" at the end of the web-based setup and expected to get to the configuration interface to set a new Admin username and password instead of leaving the defaults it came with. Instead, it presented the same login window I got on initial connection to the default IP URL. I tried the default login and password and it fails. I am not even certain I should be trying to connect this way because as part of setup I used recommended setting to allow for DHCP, so the default IP URL may no longer be valid.
    No matter the reason, I cannot connect to this device to manage it. I put the CD in and launch the autorun and it opens an HTML document with Notepad on my desktop which is useless.
    I do not want this device on my network with defaul passwords and so I am not using it at this time. Since the instructions have separate section for changing the Admin account/password I assumed that the password the setup acsked me to set was something different, but I tried using this to login anyway and it also fails. When I type in the default 5 character password and click login it appears to epand the password to many more characters and then gives me a failure message. This is bizarre behavior and I am at a loss for how to proceed. I tried using the reset switch in the hopes I could start over, but this did not help.
    Can anyone on this forum help with this?
    Sincere regards,
    Gregg.

    Hello Gregg,
         Sounds like when you ran the wizard you changed the password and why the default doesn't work. You can always do a ipconfig though and find out what your default gateway is and that is what you used to log into the router.
    The information you have provided though is kind of random at this point so I am not really sure what steps you have done when you ran the wizard. When you are holding the reset button how long are you holding it in for? You need to hold it in for 30+sec's at least. Also the "recommended setting to allow for DHCP" sounds like it could be just talking about on the WAN side and not your LAN.
    I wouldn't bother using the CD though. Counting on what you want to do you may not need to run the wizard anyway's. I would just navigate through the GUI and make your changes that you want if you think that could be easier. If you want to change the default password to log into the router I would go under the administration page and if you wanted to add security on your wireless go under the wireless section. I think when you log into that router for the first time it will ask you to change the log in password by default anyways.
    I hope that information helps you out. If all else fails just factory reset the unit and start over.
    Thanks,
    Clayton Sill

  • Airport Express 802.11n - Solid amber light after initial setup

    Hi,
    I got my refurbished Airport (from the official Mac Store) earlier this week.
    It actually looked brand new, from the packaging to the flawless device itself.
    I plugged it in and set it to act as a bridge, and after it had rebooted, Airport Utility could no longer find it.
    As the title states, the light is solid amber. When it boots, the green light comes up for a split second before it turns amber.
    I have tried countless times to do the factory default reset to no avail. The light blinks when i hold in the reset button, but other than that it seems completely dead.
    I live in a share, without amin access to the router.

    Welcome to the discussions!
    It sounds like you have tried to reset the device by holding in the reset button while it is plugged in until the amber light blinks quickly, correct?
    Try this instead:
    Power down the Express
    Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back in
    Release the reset button after approximately 10 seconds
    This full hard reset will return the device to factory defaults so you can reconfigure it. If you still have issues after trying this a few time, you have a defective Express that should be exchanged.

  • Old Emails loading (slowly) after initial setup.

    So, I decided to finally sync my GMail account with the Mail app. It was EXTREMELY easy as both GMail and the Mail app worked together to basically set the whole thing up for me. So, all is well and good except that it started loading all of my really old messages. I don't really care about all of those. I have since deleted the ones that had loaded and now it updates every once in a while with another old email, from back in like July. Is there a way to bypass this just so it syncs with any email activity from this point on? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cant help you with slowness, i agree it is a bit laggy but I have found it tolerable.  I use a lot of click boxes and they seem more responsive than buttons (I just make my own buttons using click boxes). I do not know that these work any faster or use ontouch instead of onclick but they seem more responsive.  The other thing that seems to speed it up is disabling the click sound.
    Here is how to remove the play button - dumbest oversight ever btw adobe!!
    Find this bit of code between the first <script></script> tags in your .html, it is the last bit of a code in the first <script> tag.
    Add the cp.movie.play (); as shown below in bold
      var lCpExit = window["DoCPExit"];
      window["DoCPExit"] = function()
      if(cp.UnloadActivties)
      cp.UnloadActivties();
      lCpExit();
      cpInit();
      cp.movie.play ();
    Also know that as long as you dont resize, and not sure about with resonsive projects, but you can recycle this same edited  index.html republish after republish even if you add content or edit slides.  I only use the republished .html and re edit if something gets glitchy, otherwise I just delete the new index and replace with the modified one and it works great.

  • Itunes will not popup and recognize Ipad air after initial setup. Advice?

    I was installing a new ipad air to replace a lost and erased one. It was downloading apps and content as expected. I stepped away for a couple of hours. Now it shows the design directing you to connect to itunes. When I connect it to the laptop, Itunes does not popup or recognize the ipad and the ipad does not open. will not open up. The screen with the design directing connection to Itunes persists. Advice?

    That means that the iPad iOS software has to be restored and you will need to try recovery mode now.
