Encore Transcode and Write Times

I am creating content in PP CS6 and then using Dynamic Link to send it to Encore.
After creating a 2 hr. DVD the transcode and writing time seems way excessive.  Any thoughts?
I am running all this on a 2010 Mac Pro 2.6 Quad Core Xeon with 32 GB Memory and maybe 20 TB of disc space.

First off, please tell us what the source video is (i.e. AVCHD 1080p30) and then how long is it taking to encode? Any effects/filters added to the video?
Most of us will recommend to NOT use Dynamic Link - use File > Export > Media and set up your own parameters using the "MPEG-2 DVD" format and one of the existing presets that you can modify for bitrate (according to program length). This export method will create the proper content for a DVD, being .m2v video and .wav audio files. On the Mac, you might have .aac instead, not sure how Mac works. But anyway, you then import those two files into Encore, do whatever menus and authoring you want, and the nice thing about this workflow is that it literally takes only MINUTES to be ready to burn, since the video encoding is already done. I usually just create an IMAGE from Encore (an .iso file) and then burn using another app. Super quick.
For myself, encoding the video out of Premiere gives me a break after hours of editing. Then I can jump into the Encore DVD project fresh, and within minutes have a proof DVD ready to check. If I need to make changes to the menu perhaps, a few more minutes for the second DVD.

    yes , this is possible. But you have to create two tasks, one for input and one for output. see the attached example for LabVIEW.
    If you download and install NI-CAN 2.4 you will get this example and one for C and VB as well.

  • Why does this class not read and write at same time???

    I had another thread where i was trying to combine two class files together

    I managed to do it myself but when i run the file it does not work right. If i write a file then try and open the file it says there are no records in the file, but if i close the gui down and open the file everything get read in as normal can anybody tell me why?

    Sure you can read and write at the same time. But normally you would be reading from one place and writing to another place.
    I rather regret avoiding the OP's earlier post asking how to combine two classes. I looked at the two classes posted and realized the best thing to do was actually to break them into more classes. But I also realized it was going to be a big job explaining why and how, and I just don't have the patience for that sort of thing.
    So now we have a Big Ball Of Tar&trade; and I feel partly responsible.

  • Write time stamp and Voltage to text file

    I am a novice 2011 LabVIEW user and am trying to build a program that will write TIME in one column and VOLTAGE in another to a text file for later interpretation with MATLAB. I started to add elements to an existing code, which I downloaded from the examples forum, because it works well for my purposes of sending a finite square signal. The code that I started modifying is attached to this thread. If somebody wants to take the time to provide me with an example of how I can do this with my existing code, it would be greatly appreciated. I learn better from example.

    This is a pretty simple set of code that every 5 seconds writes to a csv file that is stored in the location shown in the code. In order to apply something similar to your code simply run the data that you wish to store into the concatenate strings in the form of a string and it should be fine. 
    Although after looking over your code a second time you should probably take a look at the convert "Array to Spreadsheet string" function, all you would have to feed it is an array of times and measurements at the completion of your program and feed it into a file and it should do everything for you.

  • Urgent: Please help. how to solve the time delay during buffer read and write using vc++

    I need to continuously acquire data from daqmx card, write into a file and at the same time corelate (in terms of time) the data with signals from other instruments. The current problem is that there is time delay during read and write data into buffer,thus causing misalignment of the data from multiple instruments. Is there a way to solve  the delay? or Is there a way to mark the time of the data acquisition in the buffer?  If I know the starting time (e.g. 0) of data acquisition and sampling rate (e.g. 1kHz), can I simply add 1ms to each data sample in the buffer? The current code is shown below.

    Hello kgy,
    It is a bit of a judgment call. You should just choose the board that you think has the most to do with your issue. For example, this issue was much more focused on setting up your data acquisition task than the Measurement Studio environment/tools, so the MultifunctionDAQ board would have been the best place for it. As for moving your post to another board, I do not believe that is possible.

    Export the photos to a desktop folder, right click on the folder and burn to disk - see if that is any different

  • I used "Get Waveform Components" to separate waveform data. I need to get the time stamp and write it on file as an header.

    I am not able to solve the problem because I can't find an I/O vi that writes on file time stamp data. An error occurs, because of connecting different data types. How can I convert time stamp data so that I can use it as input in a write on file vi? Please, help me!

    The problem with the selection seems to be that you are using two different indexing tunnels on the for loop. One of them loops over every value of the first incoming waveform, the other one over all waveforms in the incoming array. The value you wire to the N terminal will be ignored, the number of loop executions will be the minimum of your indexes. Anyway, the loop doesn't seem to do what you wanted:
    - If you want to store the complete waveform: loop over all waveforms, check for the maximum of each of them and write it just like you do now.
    - If you want to store only the values of each waveform that actually exceeded the threshold: You can either use 2 nested for loops to iterate over each value of each waveform. Use shift registers t
    o create new arrays of timestamps / values for the values you want to store. You need to either convert the waveform to x-y-pairs (VI on analog waveform palette) or calculate your own timestamps. You might as well want to check out the "Search waveform" VI. Configure it so that value+-tolerance covers the band between your expected minimum value and your threshold value. The VI will give you the indices and timestamps of all fits.

  • Encore cannot transcode and burn ABC-TV HD mpeg2 converted broadcasts to Blu-ray

    I have not been able to transcode and burn a Blu-ray with ABC-TV HD broadcasts at the correct frame rate.  There doesn't seem to be an option in Encore CS3 that allows a new project at 1280 x 720 at 30 fps.  The closest I can get is 24fps and then the resulting video looks like an HD kinescope with a film look without smooth full motion.  If I create the disc at full HD 1980 x 1024 at 60 fps then the video is in slow motion.  Does anybody have any suggestions for a fix in Encore or another software that can transcode HD mpeg2 at 1280 x 720 @ 30fps?

    I am trying to write a VI that gets the current time and writes it to an XML file in this format.  YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss[.s][Z|(+|-)hh:mm]
    I cant seem to get the operators on the format date/time string vi to work for concatenating the "-" between the year and month
    Anybody know how to do this one?

    You should not need to use special operaors for the format date/time string, the format should simply be"%Y-%m-%d"

       I've finished the programming of the process read and write for the PCI6025E, I can read and write the data now, I wanna synchronize both of the processes, writing the data into the card just after the reading from the card, and check the wave in the oscilloscope. when I use the SEC , it works, but when I changed to MSEC, the wave only come out for a few seconds, even if I bloc 60sec, and also the wave is not steady. why?
         so now the problem is how could I write the data immediately which just read and it's for a long time I asked?

    aiex4.cpp doesn't exist, as far as I can tell. I believe that while the examples were being named, the developer mis-numbered them and just skipped 4 :-S
    At any rate, if you already have AI and AO working separately, and you have the I/O performance you application requires, then you may not need to add DMA to your driver. However, if you want to add DMA, it won't be very difficult. In essence, you would need mix code from the S and M Series examples. The S Series example aiex2.cpp shows two things: the few lines of code you need to add DMA objects (lines 70-78), and how to program the STC to use DMA (line 114). And aiex3.cpp from the M Series examples gives a clearer picture of how to control and read the DMA channel.

  • Encore Freezes and Crashes when transcoding a DVD.

    Everytime I try to build my project, it barely gets into the transcoding phase and then crashes! I'm not getting any errors other than the "Adobe Encore CS4 has quit unexpectedly". Any Ideas?
    I'm running Adobe CS4 Production Premium with Windows 7.

    As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

  • Transcoding and Analysis Taking Long Time

    I'm running FCPX and I imported new video to local drive. I have created a new project for the video, but it's been a day and a half since I've imported and the transcoding and analysis is only at 62% overall. FCPX is using just over 1GB of RAM and system has 1.33GB free. Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 500GB SATA hard drive.

    I knew that I could work while the background tasks were working, but I wasn't sure of the impact to the work I was performing.
    Actually, FireWire is much faster than USB 2.0.
    As for background task running, you can just work and continue editing.

  • Encore transcoding

    My question is, I shoot 1080 but I edit in 720 meaning I just crop on a 1080 timeline then set the crop to 720 in export settings and change output size to match the new source. I want to use Dynamic Link but that is the problem, when I bring the footage in I can't figure out how to crop it to 720 for output. I'm trying to get it to Blu-Ray, 24fps, 720 which I've been plenty of other times by exporting a AVI(uncompressed) in premiere then bring it into Encore, transcoding again blah blah blah... huge time waster. Does anyone have any ideas if what I'm trying to do is possible through the Dynamic Link option. Thanks heaps!

    Yes of course its a huge time waster encoding twice.
    Just export direct to dvd or bd in Premiere and import that into Encore.
    Have to wait until i get home to see how you can set Encore to 720p with DL.

    Your drive is formatted with the NTFS file system.  OS X can read but not write to the NTFS file system.  There are third party drivers available that claim to add the ability to OS X to write to an NTFS partition.  I have not tried them and don't know if they work.
    The only file system that OS X and Windows can both write to natively is the FAT32 file system.

  • What is the fastest way to record and write image data?

    Hello,
    I am new to labview and am using the IMAQ software package to record and write data from a CCD camera to the hard drive. The end goal is a program that records and saves as much data as possible as quickly as possible, for experiments lasting on the scale of days. I have been experimenting with the snap, grab, and sequence methods of recording. To save the image data I was told by NI customer support that TDMS streaming would be the fastest method. I have also been experimenting with the TDMS VIs, however I have found the IMAQ Write File 2 VI to be faster in practice. Am I doing something wrong with the TDMS file structure? Is there a more efficient way to convert IMAQ image data to a dataform that can be written as TDMS? I am posting two of my programs to provide a clearer example of what I am trying to do. The first takes a snap of the image and appends it to a TDMS file. The second is the fastest I have found so far and uses Grab to record the images and the IMAQ Write File VI to save them.

    For me it is no surprise that the second VI is faster then the first one, the reason is you can not compare this two VI with each other.
    In the first VI you work with TDMS files, in the second with png files. That would be much faster, because TDMS files need a lot of diskspace.
    Second point, why do you open, write and close for eacht iteration of the for loop a TDMS file in your first VI? That need really a lot of resources, so it coudn´t be fats as well.
    Save your converted pictures in one array, an after the acquisition you can save it in one TDMS file. When you need for each picture a TDMS file you have to know that this need some time to do this.
    So now for the architecture of your first VI, please look to the LL Sequence.vifrom the examples (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\examples\IMAQ\IMAQ Low Level.llb\LL Sequence.vi), there you can see how an acquisition of a number of images have been to do.
    When you like it really fast, you make a producer/consumer architecture (see examples in LabVIEW for that).
    So in the first whileloop you acquire the images, write into a queue and in the second, parallel whileloop you read the queue and save the images. (see attachment)
