Enormous ASL photoshop elements files appeared overnight - 25gb each

Hello
Quick question if I may.
I have Photoshop elements on my mac (running leopard) and its created 3 enormous ASL style files - in excess of 25gb each file.
I've no idea where these have come from - they were created in the past few days.
Does anyone know what they are and where they have come from?
I've trashed them but am just intrigued as to how my machine has filled 80gb of disk space by itself.
Thanks

OK, I know it is confusing, but they are log files created by the asl manager, new in 10.5.6 (and the quirks and bugs that came with this is why I'm still running 10.5.5 on my working drive). Because they have the ".asl" manager extension, and you have Photoshop Elements installed, which proclaims that one its file types is ".asl" the Finder claps the appropriate Photoshop icon on the files. And if you double click the file, Elements will actually launch, and then make an announcement or two about the files not being correct. But they are not in fact Elements files, they are a new sort of log file.
You can safely trash them. You may be able to catch the culprit that is creating them in the act by launching Console, click the icon in the toolbar to Show Logs, and click on the All Messages, and see if you can spot something writing constant error messages. You might be able to read the new ones in the Log Files->/var/log section (I'm running 10.5.5 right now, so can't check). The problem can be the aslmanager itself. Do a search here in the Leopard forum on aslmanager for more information.

  • Installing photoshop elements associated/changed all files on computer to photoshop elements files

I purchased Photoshop Elements for my mother while home during Thanksgiving. When I installed it on her computer, it changed all the files on her computer to photoshop Elements files, or rather, it associated all files to photoshop elements. I am sure this is an operating system issue. Can someone tell me why this is happening and give me a cure? She uses Windows 7. It is a 64 bit machine if that is important.
    Thank you for any advice.

    Hi Andy,
Please try the steps mentioned in the below link and check.

  • Photoshop Album to Photoshop elements File size issue

I have used album v2 for a few years, and only import proxy files from off-line media (CD/DVD) to keep the backup file small which makes it easier to keep 2 computers on the same page..(15000 image files = 6GB) I make a backup to a portable drive monthly, and restore to 2nd pc.. etc
I have converted the catalogue into elements 9 succesfully, and it correctly points to the relevent discs if I need the full res files.
My question is.. Can I do this sort of import in Photoshop Elements 9? In album there was a check box for keeping the files off-line during import and to name the disc for reference , but I cant see this in elements... Perhaps I am missing something obvious..
Looking through the dialoge boxes, I wonder if you import the full res file, then move/copy to disc leaving behind the proxy...
I am on the trial, and dont want to buy if its not what I want..
Apologies if this topic is listed elsewhere.. I have looked, but cant find one..
    Thanks for any pointers,

I'm not sure but it sounds a lot like the question I posed to the forum a little later today.  It may be that the newer versions of PSE are not compatible with transfering all the Categories, Sub Categories and Tags from versions up to PSE 10.  I am presently using PSE 10 because I couldn't figure out how to save all the organization I have put into Elements over the past 10 years or so.
I'm hoping for an answer to my question.

  • Photoshop Elements file info font size

The text size in Photoshop elements is rather small. By Text I mean the font size for commands.  I can live with it most of the time but when adding text to the File Info field I find it very hard to read and check spellling.  Is there any way to increase font size or magnify what one sees.  For example in Windows, Control Panel, Display I can adjust the display font size but that seems to have no effect in PE.  Any ideas?

Yes, even if you set the UI font size to 200%, that has no effect on the font size of the Information dialog in the editor.
My suggestion is to use the Organizer to input your information. I have set the font size in Windows (not in Elements) to 125% for my 1920 x 1200 24" display.
It's comfortable to input file properties in the Information panel on the right. For the IPTC data, click on the icon with three dots to open the IPTC dialog.

  • Old photoshop elements files?

I am using photoshop elements 10, I  have old files from previous versions of photoshop elements.  Can I delete these old files without effecting my current version of photoshop elements 10?

All versions of PSE point to the same images on your hard drive or external drive; so it really makes no difference.

  • Can't extract photoshop elements files

Je suis incapable d'extraire les fichiers de photoshop elements 13. Ils ont été installé au même endroit. J'ai désactivé le pare-feu et l'antivirus. Le fichier d'exécution demeure incapable de faire l'extraction. J,ai suffisamment d'espace sur mon disque dur.

  • Can i store photoshop elements files on onedrive

Is it possible to store all my photo files on Microsoft OneDrive and synchronize them with photoshop elements?

Will depend on what OS the "server" runs, I guess?! What do you hope to achive by that, anyway?

  • IPhoto files vs. Photoshop Elements files

I am confused by what appears to be two different but related filing systems in these two programs. When I open PSE and browse it goes to date files, (e.g. johnhendrie>pictures>iphotolibrary>2005>11>29>filename). When in iPhoto the same file exists in Library with aliases in any of the folders where I have put it. In iPhoto I see no johnhendrie>pictures>iphotolibrary>2005>11>29>filename. This makes it difficult to find specific photos when working in PSE.
What is the difference between the two methods? I also think, but have not confirmed, that deleting a file from the iPhoto Library does not delete it from the PSE tabulation.
Enlightening comments will be very appreciated

    Hi John,
The iPhoto Library folder in the Finder is organized differently from what you see within iPhoto.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
You should set up PS Elements as the external editor within iPhoto Preferences. You can then double click an image in iPhoto and it will open in PS Elements. When saving the image with PS Elements make sure the file is flattened and save with the same name. Make sure you do a "Save" and not a "save as".
Deleting a file from within iPhoto will not delete it from the HD until iPhotos trash is emptied.

  • Moving Photoshop Elements & files from Windows XP to 8.1

After a major upgrade of my pc I temporarily have PSE (10) on a drive running on an XP platform, with all my photos on a separate "data-drive".
Question:  How can I best make programme and files work together on my new Win8.1-platform/drive without loss of data?  In short:  Where do I start, and how do I proceed?  Can I simply install PSE on my 8.1 drive and then connect it to my PSE catalog, and if so: how?

If your media files are already on an external drive, the question is where is your catalog? It can be on the default location on your internal drive, or it can be in the external drive if you have already moved it there.
In the last case, you simply plug in your external drive to the Win8 PC, install PSE10, and from the organizer you use the catalog manager to browse to the custom location of your catalog : the folder containing the catalog.pse10db file. You can also double click on that file to open the organizer with your catalog.
If you have PSE11 or 12, you'll have to use the organizer menu to convert the catalog to the new format.
If you are in the usual default location of your catalog in the old internal drive, locate it via the menu Help / System info. Copy the whole folder containing the catalog to the external drive, just under the root letter, not inside a folder containing your image files. Once you have copied it, see above.
Of course, doing a full backup is always a good idea.
Note that when you have recovered the catalog in the new PC, the catalog and images are shared between both PCs. Both can access your catalog. If you are not interested to share your catalog, you might prefer to move or copy the catalog back to the default location on the internal drive of your new PC. You'll have more speed. The organizer catalog manager has the option to move the catalog back to the default location.

  • How can I edit a photo in Photoshop Elements and have the edit appear in Windows 7, My Pictures?

In Windows XP Pro, any edit I made to a photo in Photoshop Elements 10 appeared automatically in that photo in My Pictures.   This does not happen in my new Windows 7 computer.  Can I change that and have the edit from PE10 appear in My Documents/My Pictures?

    When you finish editing choose:
    File >> Save As
Then choose a file name and folder and save.

  • Transferring Photoshop Elements 11 files to a different computer

My son recently bought Photoshop Elements 11 and installed it on his computer.  I would like to transfer my catalog of pictures to him and have it look just like it does on my computer with Album titles, keywords, etc.  When we tried to do this by using a backup of my Photoshop Element files, it transferred the pictures and keywords but not the album titles or album organization.  Also, the keywords were not in the same keyword categories that I had set up on my computer.  Is it possible to do what I want, or do the pictures have to all be reorganized and put into albums again on his computer?

If you used the organizer's backup command (not another form of backing up) and then did a restore (not just a copy) to the new computer, you should have everything you had on the old one.

  • Photoshop Elements will not sync

When I first used my Apple TV, I selected some collections from Photoshop Elements to synch. This worked very well. Now when I go to the Photo tab, and select Photoshop Elements, none of my collections appear there. I can no longer sync any content. I tried reseting the Apple TV, it is still blank under Photoshop Elements. All other functions work fine. Any ideas on how to get it to find my collections?
    PC   Windows XP

Make sure that the Photoshop Elements files are the correct format. If they're not then you'll have to convert them.
The AppleTV accepts JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PNG. No other ones.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 and 'Save for Web' problem

    Hi everyone,
I have used Photoshop Elements 2 for some time with absolutely no problems. However when I try to use the save for the web option I get an 'export could not be completed due to a program error' message.
Nothing relevant is mentioned on Adobe's support site. After having gone through the usual 9 troubleshooting procedure I suspect that there is a problem with the 'Save for Web EL' plugin located in the PE 2 plugins folder. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a way I can somehow find a functional plugin?
Thank you for reading this post.
    PowerBook G4 DVI 667   Mac OS 9.2.x

I don't use Photoshop elements myself, but from Photoshop CS it works fine. I use JPG compression and optimization. First of all - make sure the file format extensions are all available. Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/file formats AND ALSO Applications/adobe/photoshop elements/photoshop elements only/file formats (here I am assuming the paths are the same or similar to Photoshop). Also, check the extensions disabled folder (Control click on Photoshop and go to package contents). If it's none of these, I suggest you check the settings in Elements when trying to save and make sure you are not using an option that conflicts.
Also, check the Adobe forum. http://www.adobeforums.com
    Check for software upgrades also.
You do have enough hard drive space and RAM I assume. If you are using PS Elements and virtual memory is on, you may not have enough phsyical space to save the file (but not likely)
P.S. I see (after i wrote) that you are running 9.2.2 - so the paths will not be the same as if it was on OS X - but they will be similar.
