Enter Text in Dropdown LOV APEX 3.2

I have several list of values that are used on the oracle forms we have created. Those work great etc. They are all data driven from oracle tables.
Users would like to have the ability to add to these tables if they are entering data on a form that uses one of these list of values. They do not want to leave the form they are on and go to another form to enter data for the list of values.
I did not see any option to allow a user to type in new data to a dropdown. I realize this takes some effort and I would have to add some code to my form for this to work.
Unless I am mistaken this does not seem to be a viable option in Apex 3.2.
Let me ask a couple of questions.
1. would it be possible for me to just add link that says something like "My item is not listed"
They click on that and it brings up a pop up box with a little form to add the data to the table for the dropdown LOV.
After that is updated it then dynamically updates the dropdown list on the main form.
I am .net and VB.net guy only been using apex for 6 months here, so pretty new to it.
2. DO that same as option one, except instead of a link, I would have a selection in the LOV
that says My item not listed. Then if they choose that option it will bring up the pop up box with the form...
3. If non of these things are available in 3.2 are they available in apex 4.0?
4. If they are in 4.0 how easy is it to upgrade to 4.0 from 3.2 We have this on an Unix Box right now.
5. any better ideas??
Thanks

I got it to bring up a pop up window, but It brings up the login page instead of the page I want it to go to.
It's not keeping my current session, and instead creats a new one.
I tried the script you provided like this
<script>
function modalWin() {
if (window.showModalDialog) {
window.showModalDialog("f?p=&APP_ID.:104&PAGE_ID.:4100&SESSION.:POP:NO:::","name","dialogWidth:600px;dialogHeight:400px");
else {
window.open("f?p=&APP_ID.:104&PAGE_ID.:4100&SESSION.:POP:NO:::","name","height=400,width=600,toolbar=no,directories=no,status=no,menubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no ,modal=yes");
</script>
I also tried removing the session variable from this all together and I still got the login page. How can I maintain the session?

  • Display As Text (based on LOV, saves state)  "p_t03" was assigned by APEX

    Hi All,
    I have an ITEM
    Name: P36_INT
    Display As: Display As Text (based on LOV, saves state)
    Output in my HTML:
    [input type="hidden" name="p_t03" value="YES" />[span id="P36_INT">Interior[/span>
      'p_t03' was assigned by APEX
      In my Javascript I have to access it as the following to get the "YES" value:
      var lintObj = html_GetElement('p_t03');
      Originally it was 'p_t01' but it changed from 'p_t01' to 'p_t03' somehow.. out of my control.
      How do I assign an ID or assign my own name to the "hidden" item?

    Scott, thanks for the feedback. The problem is that although the value is displayed correctly, it is NOT saved to the database. Effectively, header information is entered in a previous screen, and one of the entered fields is written to each of the detail lines associated with the header. We are re-platforming an existing application (written in an obscure form of basic), and at this stage changing the schema is not an option. So this header item (which is a foreign key to a "store" table), is meant to be written down to each line, on the screen displayed as the store name, and written to the inserted lines as the lookup id. If I use the dispaly as text save state option teh database is updated correctly, but displays the id rather than name on the screen. The only display as lov option i can see is the one that does not save state. If I use this option the screen displays as I want but the database is not updated. I need to use the display as lov saves state option. but i do not see it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Dropdown list (predefined list) along with provision for user to enter text

    Hi,
    Is there any provision in J2ME to have

    Append Method
    I would create a box / div in Animate then when you publish it and put it on your page just append a form with an email input ( <input type="email></input>" ) and submit button.
    <form action="url">
      <input type="email" name="usremail">
      <input type="submit">

  • Report "Display Text (Based on LOV)" columns don't like colons - Bug?

    This is a bit hard to explain in text, so I've built a sample app: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=9608:1
    The app has two pages, which demonstrate two related bugs in the handling of Report "Display as Text (based on LOV)" columns.
    Basically, if the LOV query returns a string that contains colon characters (":") in the display column, the values are matched up correctly, but the colons are stripped from the display.
    If the LOV query returns a string that contains colon characters in the return value column, then the matching fails entirely.
    Removing the colon characters eliminates the problem.
    We actually ran into this in a production environment, after an upgrade from Apex 3.0.0 to 3.2.1. The behavior definitely did not occur in Apex 3.0, but was added at some point between the two versions.

    The colon is actually part of our data (the field in question is a URN namespace).
    And yes, I understand the function of the colon in Apex URL parameter passing. However, I wouldn't expect that sort of parsing to be used against the results returned from an LOV query.
    Also, the LOV is fine in of itself -- a select list based on the LOV displays & returns the expected values. It's only when I use a report column based on an LOV that this behavior creeps in.
    We've found a (fairly painful) workaround -- altering both the report query and the LOV query to to do something like replace(column, ':', '_') -- but that's a manual change to a large number of pages for us.
    This behavior is new to version 3.2.1. It didn't happen in version 3.0.

  • Where is "Display as Text (based on LOV, saves state)"

    I am developing an application using the version of HTMLDB that comes with OracleXE.
    I have a tabular form, in which the default column for a particular item is sourced from a previously entered item on another page. This is a lookup item and needs to be non-changeable by the user. So I want to use the "Display As" option "Display as Text (based on LOV, saves state)". However, this option is not available in the pull-down for "Display As". The option "Display as Text (based on LOV, does not save state)" is available, but using this option means that the item is not saved to the database.
    Does anyone know why the stateful display as option is not available.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob

  • Display as Text based on LOV - formating

    I have a slight problem with
    Display as Text based on LOV report column formating.
    Whatever I try to enter, regardless where CSS Clas, CSS Style - formating simply
    doesn't work. The only formating that works is:
    Number / Date Format.
    Is there a solution for this?
    Thanks,
    Denes Kubicek

    I found a simple workarround and I will post it:
    1. Instead of using LOV I created a function that does the same
    ( using a cursor and returning a value )
    2. Since the field needed to act as a link, I used css to format the output
    and it worked just fine.
    Thanks,

  • Remote app in iOS 7 doesn't bring keyboard when entering text.

    I tried to use the remote app with my new iPad air with iOS 7 with and when I tried to make a search for a movie it won't bring the keyboard as before when entering text. The funny thing is that I have an old iPod 4th gen with iOS 6, and that one still brings the keyboard every time text needs to be entered, even still has the option to hide and bring out the keyboard. Is this feature gone forever in iOS 7? Or is missing and will be added later?

    This is now fixed. The remote has two modes. It starts with an interface similar to iTunes to play music or videos from your library, on the top right side it has a keyboard (mine appeared greyed out and I was unable to activate it, but now works), and an axis which brings the other remote everyone is familiar with to select the icons on the tv screen. The other remote now has a small keyboard icon on the top right which didn't used to have before. I don't know what I did to activate it, however, it won't bring the keyboard automatically like before. Another way to bring the keyboard, if yours still stuck, is to highlight any of the letters in the menu, and swipe from right to left, the highlight will cursor will hide, swipe again and that brings up the keyboard. How? Why? Still a mystery to me, but I happy I can use remote again.

  • HOW can I enter text using Japanese character sets?

    The "Text, Plates, Insets" section of the LOOKOUT(6.01) Help files states:
    "Click the » button to the right of the Text field to expand the field for multiple line entries. You can enter text using international character sets such as Chinese, Korean, and Japanese."
    Can someone please explain HOW to do this? Note, I have NO problem inputting Hirigana, Katakana, and Kanji into MS WORD; the keyboard emulates the Japanese layout and characters (Romaji is default) and the IME works fine converting Romaji, and I can also select charcters directly from the IME Pad. I have tried several different fonts with success and am currently using MS UI Gothic.ttf as default. Again, everything is normal and working in a predictable manner within Word.
    I cannot get these texts into Lookout. I can't cut/paste from HTML pages or from text editors, even though both display properly. Within Lookout with JP selected as language/keyboard, when trying to type directly into the text field, the IME CORRECTLY displays Hirigana until <enter> is pressed, at which point all text reverts to question marks (?? ???? ? ?????). If I use the IME Pad, it does pretty much the same. I managed to get the "Yen" symbol to display, though, if that's relevant. As I said, font selected (in text/plate font options) is MS UI Gothic with Japanese as the selected script. Oddly enough, at this point the "sample" window is showing me the exact Hirigana character I want displayed in Lookout, but it won't. I've also tried staying in English and copying unicode characters from the Windows Character Map. Same results (Yen sign works, Hirigana WON'T).
    Help me!

  • Can you enter text into "info" pop-up window for TV Shows?

    It's not a big deal, but I was just wondering if there is a way (a script perhaps) of entering text into the little "info" pop-up window for TV Shows in iTunes? (You know the one...it pops-up when you click on the little "i" in the description box on the TV Shows main playlist)
    The show files I made myself have blank info windows of course and it would be nice to be able to enter a decent length description of the episode (the character limit in the "Description" box is so short).
    Like I said, it's not a big deal, but it would be nice to be able to enter info in there...so if anybody knows how...please let me know.
    Yhanx a lot!

    Thank you very much for your reply! I will definitely pass this along to the IT department! Smiling now!

    I am trying to use pages.  When I open a document and begin entering text, nothing shows up on the document.  I cannot see what I am typing.  What is the problem and what am I doing wrong.

    Thanks Jerrold.  But I am opening a word processing document.  The same thing happens when I select a blank layout page.  I try to put in shapes and nothing appears.  When I click around on the blank word processing document the verbage will appear in a green color but when I type, I still cannot see what I am typing. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and this did not help.
    Thanks Again

    I bought my little brother an iPod touch 2nd generation for Xmas so we could text since we love states away but it won't verify and complete updating so I can download the texting apps required by iOS 4 or later can someone tell me how to update it please

    What exactly happens when you try to update the iPod? What does the error message say?
    Also, are you sure yo have a 2G iPod?
    See:

    I ask since a 1G can only go to iOS 2.x via iTunes and highest is 3.1.3 via

  • How do you get rid of "type to enter text " in final copy?

    I have been using a page layout template for a brochure. My knowledge of text boxes
    is very limited, but I used it anyway.  Now when I print out a satisfactory document, I get
    the 'type to enter text' among my own personal text.  How do I get rid of it?  It does not
    allow me to select, and stays there no matter what.

    Nan,
    You are expected to delete or overwrite the "Type to enter Text" content in the Text Boxes. If you don't have that phrase selected when you begin typing, it will remain with your added text. You can use Find and Replace to search and destroy the phrases in your finished document. In the future make sure the phrase is gone as you build your text box content so you don't have to find it later.
    Regards,
    Jerry

  • I cannot enter text in the iTunes search box

    I'm having a really bizarre problem with iTunes latest version (10.5,0.142). When I click in the search field in the upper right-hand corner of the program, I cannot enter any text--no text cursor appears.  I can click on the little down arrow next to the magnifying glass and select "All," or "Artist," or "Album," etc, but I'm not able to enter text. It's like the focus doesn'tshift from the Library pane and any letters I type just cause the highlight for that window to drop down to the closest match to the character I typed, even though the focus has shifted to the search pane.
    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, but that does not correct this misbehavior.
    Not sure if it's related, but I also no longer have the text menus available at the top of the window, whether the program is maximized or minimized and taking up only part of the screen (this is not a screen clipping problem--those text menus are no longer there, though you can get very small hotspots to appear near the upper left hand edge of the program window (when you have the program window in normal mode, rather than maximized), where those text menus would be, and if you click on the hotspots, the menus do appear.
    But, by far, the first issue is the most perplexing.

    Solved: This was caused by replacing the SegoeUI (Regular) true-type font. I have no idea what process or why that font was deleted, but finding the segoeui.ttf file on another Windows machine, emailing it to myself, saving it to disk, then right-clicking and choosing "Install" fixed this problem.
