Entire MBP screen becomes pixelated!

This has happened to me three times already. I usually close my MBP when I'm not using it, but recently, when I open it again, my screen is all pixelated. I try to press buttons and move the mouse but nothing happens and I have to do a hard restart. I don't think it's a hard drive problem because when I restart, there are no problems. But the screen thing is really annoying because I have lost work.
I should note that twice it has happened while running photoshop cs, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Any help would be appreciated.

I had a failing GPU, they replaced it, and then I also experienced wake up problems.
Do you see the same pixelated screen as I do? :

  • Screen becomes pixelated and scrambled

Recently my screen has becoming pixelated and scrambled. The more I move my mouse, the worse it gets to the point I can't see anything at all. If I safe boot everything works fine, but every time I boot normally it happens.
    Any ideas?
    Here's my specs:
    iMac 20"
    1.8 Ghz Power PC G5
    1.5 GB DDR SDRAM
    OS X v10.5.8

There is lots of info on the web! I have had lots of luck with repairing these machines! Just remember the better the capacitor you use the longer they last! High Quality low ESR High temp Caps! Also while you do the motherboard you might as well replace the caps in the power supply to they also fail! Chech here for both! http://jimwarholic.com/2008/07/how-to-repair-apple-imac-g5.php

  • Screen become pixalated when I move mouse

When I am on Safari news  and move my mouse the screen become pixelated.   Has anyone else experienced this problem ??

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • My screen periodically becomes pixelated, forcing me to reboot.  Mavericks which failed to resolve the problem.  Any suggestions?

Since installing Mavericks, my screen periodically becomes pixelated, forcing me to reboot to resolve the problem.  I've tried reinstalling Mavericks which failed to resolve the problem.  Any suggestions?

You may have the mid-2010 problem. There's an issue with the graphics module on that machine. There was a program in place to replace the motherboard within 3 years of purchase, but you're probably outside of that. Some folks have supposedly gotten theirs changed outside of that period, so you can try.

What you can do to use it is download gfxstatus from http:gfx.io and force the graphics to Intel.

  • I-MAC G5 freezing up and becoming pixelated - RAM related?

I've been operating the iMAC G5 17inch 1.8 since Dec '05 and it has been nothing but awesome(I'm a PC convert). The computer only came with 256mb RAM so I decided to upgrade and ordered 2 gigs of RAM from Crucial at the end of July. I made sure I used their compatible analyzer before ordering. I installed both of the 1 gigs into each of the slots, put the computer back together and everything ran fast and fine. It was recognized immediately as having 2GB of RAM. Was looking good up until last week or so when my screen became pixelated and froze. At first I thought it was the computer waking up slow, but then it started happening more often. I spoke with apple support a few times and reset VRAM and PRAM and ran the AHT. The AHT took almost 2 hours and it said the memory was fine...but I'm still leaning twds this being a RAM issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Did I get bad RAM? Is there something else I should be looking at?

Frustration continues to build with this issue. Here are the steps I've taken so far in dealing with Apple's Product Specialists:
    1) Reset PRAM and VRAM
    2) Empty trash and Empty secure trash
    3) Run AHT - successfully
    4) Repair Disk - ok
    5) Replaced RAM with new RAM (still experienced issue)
    6) Re-installed Operating System - same issues arose
    7) Created new Admin user id - same issue arose
    8) Started up in Safe Mode - seemed to run ok
The computer always seems to run OK when it's up and running. It really becomes crippled when I wake it up from sleep. It freezes and I can't do anything about it...usually requires me to reboot.
Any other suggestions out there? Anyone else experience this behavior? Has my Hardrive blown up? Is there any sure fire way for me to pinpoint the issue or do I have to take my Mac to be serviced (would prefer not to, but may be the only solution).

  • When adding a tween, images become pixelated

I've used timline/animation in Photoshop for awhile, but just noticed, when I add tweens between two images, the original images become pixelated when I save as animated GIFs.
    Test #1
Photoshop file with two layers -- each with a photograph
Timeline: frame 1 has image from layer 1 and frame 2 has image from layer 2
Choose Save For Web and the images look pretty goodI realize that GIFs are only 256 colors
    Test #2
Create Photshop files as in Test #1
Add a tween with 1 frame
Choose Save For Web and the images look pretty good
    Test #3
Create Photshop files as in Test #1
Add a tween with more than one frame
    Choose Save For Web
    The images are now pixelated
    Trash...
All but one tween and an image is no longer pixelated, OR
All tweens and an image is no longer pixelated
In other words, Saving For Web is fine as long as I don't add any tweens. As soon as I do, the images become pixelated. Take out the tweens, the pixelation goes away. And, I have tried to make all kinds of adjustments to the GIFs.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks--Robert

    HI Jeffrey:
I can surely post some photos (screen shots from the Save As Web interface) of what I'm talking about and share the PSD file as well.
    • First image before Tween
If you carefully look at the light brown vertical paint just behind the girl's right shoulder -- no big pixelated dots. And the guy's sweatshirt looks fairly smooth in transitions from highlights to shadows.
    • Second image after adding Tweens
You'll now notice all the extra dots -- especially in the vertical brown paint job and other parts of the wall and his shirts.
And it gets worse with other images/animations I've recently created.
One thing I didn't mention is that I noticed this a few months back. This morning, I realized that's when I got rid of my old trusty 21" CRT monitor and got an LCD flat panel. I hooked up my old CRT and the dots are gone! But that doesn't resolve the issue of why when you add tweens, does it pixelate.
    Here's a link to the test.PSD file: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/109581077/test.psd
Any help would sure be appreciated! And if you need me to create a video of the steps I'm doing, I can do that to.
    Thank you!
    Robert

  • IPhone screen went pixelated..

So I was using the Digg app on my iPhone and exited the app while it was loading a page, I do this all the time and never ran into an issue, and suddenly the screen becomes all pixelated like the whole screen looked like it was put through a filter and the phone shuts down. So I turn it back on and its at 29% battery, I wait a bit and its back to where it was (55%). Whats going on? What should I do?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

  • MacBook Pro screen extremely pixelated on start up

I've had my mac for under two years with no problems what so ever. Recently the screen seemed to cut in half and freeze, becoming pixelated once or twice. After rebooting the mac a couple of times it has started to boot up extremely pixelated so badly that nothing on the screen is at all visible. It then around 5 minutes later reverts to a blank white screen. I will attach some pictures to show the extent of the screen.

  • MacBook Pro screen gets pixelated (see screenshot)

When swiching among applications my screen gets pixelated,
this issue has been happening after installed Yosemite 3 weeks ago.
I also had other issues which took my Macbook Pro to the Apple care support and got the motherboard and graphics card replaced
(it was still covered by my Apple Care Protection Plan).
Nonetheless this problem persists.... and the warranty expired meanwhile....
I am starting to panic because this was supposed to have been fixed by the Apple support last intervention (which took me there twice)....
    What should I do?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • After iOS 5.1 update on iPhone 4, some of my pictures in the camera roll become pixelated after a crop edit?

I will elaborate.  Lets say I save an image from a website.  Then I go to the camera roll and edit crop it to make the image a tad bit smaller. Suddenly the images becomes pixelated and blocky.  When  I return to the image and tap the edit button, it becomes clear again and I can see the original picture.  When I tap cancel, it goes back to beign pixelated/blocky.  I tired restoring my phone to factory setting and losing all my data.  That didn't work.  As soon as I tested it, the same thing happened.  I tried some weird method from www.iphoneincanada.ca an that didn't work either.
    This is very annoying!

I have more info.  I am using a program to look at the files on my iPhone.  I did some testing and I came up with this.  When a photo is edited ( in my case cropping) an image is created in the Metadata folder.  The metadata folder is contained in a folder called PhotoData.  For some reason, the cropped JPG is put within this metadata folder.  The  DCIM folder contains the "actual image" you saved from the internet or wherever.  When a photo is edited in camer roll, a .XMP file is created for that image (Sometimes) and it's about 1kb.  Coincidentally, the image that is pixelated DOES NOT have an .XMP file associated with it in the DCIM folder.
To conclude, it seems that the pictures that have a .XMP file associated with it in the DCIM folder does not come out as pixelated.
If there is a .XMP file then the photo in the Metadata folder become pixelated.

  • Can you get just your rear camera lens replaced or do you have to get the entire back screen replaced?

I recently dropped my phone for the first time, and neither of my screens cracked but my rear camera lens did get scratched badly. I can't use it at all to take picture. It just shows up as a fuzy screen when I open my rear camera. My iPhone isn't even a year old yet. Now, I need to know if I can get just the rear lens replaced or if I have to get the entire back screen replaced? I also need to know if anyone knows how much either of these would cost? Or is it free with the one year warrenty?

You would have to get the rear glass panel replaced, it is one part. Normal warranty does not cover accidential damage. You can do it yourself for 50$:

have a problem with my MacBook Pro.5,3 and monitor.  Intermittently, the desk top screen becomes broken up into vertical sections, which appear in the wrong order, creating a haphazard picture.
The Apple icon, usually at top left corner, appears in top right corner  in a strip including all that left hand.  When the computer is restarted, the screen goes back to normal.  But I have to move the mouse to the far left of the screen and then up until it reappears on the far right hand side of the screen so that I can hit shut down button.
It seems to happen randomly though always on desk top and sometimes when I move mouse and computer switches on from rest mode.   My large flat screen is relatively new.
The video card on this computer, which is approximately two years old, is Nvidia FeForce 9400M.
Any help would be welcome as my usual source of assistance is not available and I am not well versed in workings of the Mac although I have used one for many years.

That sounds like a Hardware problem.
You may be able to confirm that with Apple Hardware Test, or make an appointmenst for a free Genius Bar evaluation.

  • Using Cinema Display with mid-2010 MBP, post-Yosemite:  corrupted MBP screen

For a couple years I've been using a 27" Cinema Display attached to my mid-2010 MacBook Pro 15".  The dual-display setup works great for my home setup.
However, since upgrading to Yosemite, the MBP display often completely corrupts and reverts to complete gibberish, with fragments of the UI and desktop littered all about the screen.  Dragging a window over to that screen usually "redraws" it sufficiently enough to keep working, but soon the problem re-appears.  The screen of the CInema Display (my main working area) never corrupts, only the MBP screen.
My setup worked great in Mavericks, but something in Yosemite isn't driving both displays properly.  Can anything be done, aside from downgrading to Mavericks?
    Andy

I am having this exact same problem.  2010 iMac with NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256MB.  I have it hooked to a 30" display through a DisplayPort to DVI-D adapter.  The 30" is fine, but I have graphical corruption constantly on the main iMac screen.
This all started as soon as I updated to Yosemite a couple days ago.

I also have an iPhone 4 with the newly downloaded iOS 5.  I have not been able to get the camera icon on the locked screen to appear at all.  I'd love to know how to fix it since this is one of the new features that I'd really like to use.
