EntityManager.refresh() works only on managed entities.

Why can't EntityManager.refresh() work on detatched entities? Any reason behind this ?

EJB3 in Action book says:
entityManager.refresh(entityManager.merge(item));
Does this line makes any sense as we are calling merge first which will update the database and then we are saying get the same data from database....
I got a nice scenario which explains use of refresh(),
"assume that the Item entity has a postingDate property that is not populated by
the application. Instead, this value is set to the current database system time
when the ITEMS table record is inserted. This could be implemented in the database
by utilizing default column values or even database triggers.
Since the persist method only issues the INSERT statement and does not load
the data that was changed by the database as a result of the INSERT, the entity
returned by the method would not include the generated postingDate field. This
problem could be fixed by using the refresh method"
Moreover at P-298 of EJB3 in Action Bok, the diagram shows refresh() method working on detatched entity... Is that an errata ?
P-331 says : "We use the method to undo changes made by the ItemManager client and return fresh entity data from the database."
but when we call merge() (before refresh()), the changes made by the client will get reflected in the database.

OK, it's very bad computing to use a backup disk for anything but a backup. The reason being is if/when the HD crashes you will have lost not only all your backup but the data files. While I commend you for wanting redundant backup, you really need separate EHDs for doing so. Format each EHD using Disk Utility to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using the GUID parttition. When you connect, OS X will ask if you want to use that drive as a Time Machine backup drive, select yes and then let it backup. On the second EHD format the same way however do not use TM as a backup, this time I'd suggest an app such as SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone of the internal HD. Leave both EHDs connected and TM will backup new or changed files automatically on a hourly basis. The clone you will need to set to backup on the schedule you want. For example I have my SuperDuper EHD set to backup only changed or updated files at 2AM every day.
The advantage of a clone is that if the computers internal HD crashes you can boot from a clone and continue working, TM will not do that but it's great for keeping an archive of all files. So if you want a version of a file from many months ago, TM will help you locate and restore it.

Auto Refresh work items in POWL iview

Hi Experts,
We are using EP 7.3 and ECC 6.0 EHP 5. MSS add-on 1.0
We are using MSS Inbox as POWL.
When we processed any work item in Inbox, the same work item still appearing (after approve) in inbox. When we click on "Refresh" link the approved work item is disappearing. Every time click on "Refresh" link is difficult.
Link to refresh work task items is available but user requires this to be done automatically upon processing of an item.

here refresh type is empty.
I Changed Refresh type to "OPTIMISTIC".
changes are reflected in table IBO_C_WF_ACC
Not in table IBO_C_WF_ACS
do i need to change the Refresh type in Standard table IBO_C_WF_ACS also?
issue is not fixed after changed in Refresh type also. please let me know if i missed any step?
Issue: Manager approving Travel request in MSS inbox using POWL. when Manager clickes Task new window will open to approve/Reject. when he approved, the work item is not refreshed until click on "Refresh" link in POWL inbox.

Variable Offsets are working only partially

Hello experts, at first I thought that an offset I placed on a variable for 0FISCPER was not working. I am trying to do a report which gives me the value of couple of Key Figure "Earnings", for a certain Fiscal Period and this same Period but for the last year. That is (please consider each "/" as a blank space):

I am using a variable that I created, which takes a user input. On Selection "Earnings on FiscPer" I placed the variable with no offset. On Selection "Earnings on LastFiscPer" I placed the same variable, with a -12 offset.
The problem I have is that it is not working. The offset is not working, it just displays the value for the Fiscal Period given by the user, not last year's Fiscal Period. However, the funny thing is that if I place the offset as +12 and give as input las year's Fiscal Period, the offset works and displays the value for the next year's Fiscal Period. So the variable offset works only on one side, with possitive offset values. I have tried different approaches (some coming from other posts from this forum) but I cannot get the offset to work with negative values.
How can I manage to get this to work? Any ideas?

i will try to answer your questions:
a) range of values instead of individual value for variables:
-> if u use a range of values for one KF u will always get cumulated values for this range
-> for example: 0FISCPER3 with range 001-016 and 0FISCYEAR 2008 -> u get the sum of all periods for year 2008
Idea : i have a query where i have a KF with a range. I defined a solid start period (0FISCPER3) for example 001 and have an input ready variable for end period, called "Period to". Also u have input ready variable for 0FISCYEAR. This KF shows me the sum until the defined end period for a user defined year.
b) 0FISCPER3 in lines or columns:
IF u now drop 0FISCPER3 in free characteristics in query designer, u are able to do a breakdown in BEx Analyzer for 0FISCPER3 in lines or columns.
Szenario:
1) u have created your KF as i descriped in IDEA
2) u have dropped 0FISCPER as free characteristics in query designer
3) At BEx Analyzer u go to query properties -> put 0FISCPER3 in columns (-> maybe u change with properties display options for 0FISCPER to text -> it dispays for 0032008 -> Mar 2008)
4) Press ok
5) Right click on your KF and choose "Add drill down according to" -> Choose "posting period" (0Fiscper3)
6) Do a horizontal drilldown for posting period with drag and drop
-> Now u have a drill down for posting period in your KF, but also for all other KF too
-> To avoid this u can customize workbook settings
1) Change to design mode
2) open properties for analysis grid and disable display options for "Hierarchy icons"
Another way is to delete the hierachy icon
-> u now only see a drilldown with posting period for these KF u wanted to have a drilldown to.
If u now only want to see posting periods which have values and disable all which have no values, u can activate zero suppression for lines and columns in query properties.
Voila, u have a worbook which now shows for your KF all availble posting periods in one year without creating 16 monthly key figures. In addition u can change the inner year range of summation of period values

Why is Fault Policy working only when the BPEL's transaction is requiresNew

Hi All
I've defined Fault policy & fault bindings files for faults in my BPEL process. I'm using Oracle SOA Suite 11g.
But the fault management framework is properly working only when the transaction property(bpel.config.transaction) of the BPEL is set to "requiresNew" in composite.xml
When i modify it ot required, its not working, i.e. it is waiting for some period and erroring out. I could not manage these errors from the EM as we do for those in Fault Management Framework.
Why is this behavior?
I went thru this article, but could not understand it

EM DB console works only from one node?

In my 2 node RAC the enterprise manager database console works only from one node i.e the url shows login page only from one node.
http://NODE2:5500/em------>WORKS, SHOWS LOGIN PAGE AND CAN MANAGE ALL INSTANCES FROM HERE
http://NODE1:5500/em------>DOES NOT WORK, DOES NOT SHOW THE LOGIN PAGE.
Please clarify.

I have to guess ... (because you tell neither OS nor database version). Assuming it's 10gR2 or higher, that's expected behaviour, dbconsole runs on one node only, the so-called master node. You can change that, see the documentation or this metalink note:

Cisco Works Network Compliance Manage NCM

I'm working on the Cisco Works Network Compliance Manager.
I would like to add a device which is behind a firewall.
For this I use the option bastion host to authen. on the firewall and
to get access to the device self.
The problem is the firewall is not listing to the port 22/23, it a different port number
like example 1234.
Is it possible to change the port manually in a configfile, as the webinterface has no option for this ?
I use the version 1.7.1 the latest one.

Both Prime and LMS can do baseline compliance, after a fashion. LMS's is much more mature in my estimation. Prime is more around the lines of deploying templates.
The regulatory compliance functions as of now are in only LMS's Compliance and Audit Manager (CAAM) function. It's quite useful, matching the baseline compliance features.
An LMS license is included with PI, but it does need to be on its own server (or separate VM).

PUT KEY works only without C-MAC and C-DEC secure channel

I would like to know why the PUT KEY command to set a new key set only works if a secure channel is opend without secure messaging. My smartcard is GP 2.1.1 compatible.
This is a problem because I'm not allowed to open a secure channel without secure messaging when the smartcard state is SECURED. I even don't know why this is not allowed. Visa Platform 2.0.1 defines this behavior but I can't find it in the GP 2.1.1 spec.

Add-ons working only once

It's been a while now that I've noticed my addons not working on Mozilla DE in Ubuntu. Addons are installed correctly and, indeed, they show up when I use mozilla sync in other computers.
Today I've tried the troubleshooting suggested here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/982460
It works only once. I can install my addons again, but as soon as I close firefox and open it again the addons dissapear from the top bar and customization window. Even when I try to change preferences for Ghostery I only get a blank screen so addons are definitely not working in Ubuntu

How do I keep a page as my home page when dragging icon to left of URL to house image & confirming that I want it as home page works only for current session, so when Firefox next opened, I end up with some stupid search page which McAfee doesn't like?

A couple of days ago, I connected to the Internet as usual & opened Firefox, only to be greeted by an almost blank screen with a Google-type search box in the middle & this message from McAfee:

instead of my usual home page (BT Yahoo). I naturally clicked on the "Yes" option in the message, but rather than restoring my BT Yahoo home page, all that did was to insert the McAfee logo to the left of the search box in the top right-hand corner of the screen. The first time it happened, I had to search for the BT Yahoo page & then followed the standard procedure for setting it again as my home page. It worked only for that session: each time I shut down Firefox or restarted my computer after that, all I got was the blank "search page" & restoring the previous session was the only way to get back to BY Yahoo. How on earth do I make the home page setting permanent?
As far as I'm aware, I have done nothing to alter my search settings. However, I am anything but computer-literate, so I may have done/pressed something without realising it, but trying to understand what is now happening is far beyond my limited IT skills.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

in our project we are having to work through solution Manager. I am new to the solution Manager environment.
a) Is there any link that helps us understand the basics of working on solution manager.
b) Also, i understand we need to give the transaction codes that we work on in solution manager. (But in HCM as we work in the IMG the transaction code is always seen as SPRO for most of the configuration)
c) How do we set the T Codes for entire configuration?

iCloud should still help you reduce some hard drive space. Just select "optimize" in the icloud tab in Mac Photo App preferences.
Granted, not the same as completely offloading your library to a back-up drive at your location.
