Envelope Mesh on a Symbol.

I have created an envelope mesh to an object within a clipping mask and have made it into a symbol. The idea of this was to create a template where I can edit the symbol and have it automate the wrapping of the design using the envelope mesh. The problem that I am running into is when I edit eh symbol and change out the pattern that is within a clipping mask... it will not render correctly on the envelope mesh due to the pattern size difference that is currently within the clipping mask. Is this a bug? Is there a way to have the envelope mesh render the size/shape of the actual clipping mask instead of the reading the dimensions of the pattern within the clipping mask?

Create your symbol with a rectangle set to fill & stroke of none, and make the rectangle larger than your largest symbol. The will acts as a bounding box in your symbol so you can update and it will not resize.

  • Way to return Released Envelope Mesh back to a normal Path?

If you use the Create Envelope from Top Shape feature, and then later Release the Envelope you at first appear to get your original shape back.
But it's actually an object called a Mesh. While you can apply Fills and Strokes to this released Mesh, there are some things you can't do with it.
Like setting the Stroke to Inside or Outside. You also can't use this Mesh with the Pathfinder Operations.
Is there a way to return a released Envelope Mesh back a normal path?

    Somewhat hidden and not self-evident:
Go to Object > Path > Offset Path and take an offset value of zero.

  • (CS5) Aligning, distributing envelope mesh points

Is it possible to align and distribute envelope mesh points? The alignment panel doesn't seem to react when selecting anchor points in an envelope mesh. Hypothetically, this could be solved by manually entering coordinates for mesh points - however, any coordinate value changes affect the entire object rather than the individual points. So... how do you edit an envelope mesh with precision?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

True in CS4 as well. I have resorted to guides and smart guides for precision placement but like you, would much prefer that mesh points were responsive to the align panel as path points are. Not sure why they're not. But then again, I'm not an engineer.

  • Use Envelope Distort to combine 2 words.

How do I combine two words as one with Envelope Distort.... For example...
I want to take a paragraph worth of words and then apply envelope distort to it so it can all fit inside one word.
I use to use this technique all the time, but I must have forgotten a step cause I cant get it to work anymore.
I Expand both the paragraph and the single word..... then I make sure the single word is on top in the arrangement.... then I select the expanded paragraph.... while the paragraph is selected, I hold down shift so I can select the single word too.... Once both are selected I click on"Make with Top Object" under "Envelope Distort."
But it tells me "This requires a selection of multiple objects. The top object must be a single path or mesh, or a symbol containing a single path or mesh."
Whats the deal? I know this is possible because I have done this countless times, but I cant seem to do it anymore.
What am I missing? What am I doing wrong?

I think you guys are right and he wants to do something like this

<br />I no longer have the need to do this but used to doe this when I was in High School and then at Cooper Union it was very uncommon then but as it was costly to do even foe =r the design studios and agencies but since I worked for such and they paid me very little I had no problem using their resources at their expense. You can also do this with images and such.
    <br />
<br />Any way it is outlined text then all turned to area type paths and the thread and then filled with the text. Pretty simple and basic today.

  • Creating layered line art mesh grids

I would like to create some artwork in illustrator which is based on the same styles as seen here > link to image
However, I am not sure of the best way to do so - I think it may be best to create basic grids and then distort them
I also want to make sure that each layered grid is free from backgrounds so the LINES flow free an mesh together
Can anyone provide any guidance as to the best and easiest/quickest way to create this kind of artwork please ?
I am sure it's simple if you know how but as a newbie to CS5 i dont - so before I launch into attempts with line art grids and then distort them - i wanted to check if there's a better way
    thanks

I would say envelope distort would be easiest.
I use the Effect>Distort and Transform>Transform to make the repaeat of the lines one for the Vertical and one for the horizontal  so I have the grid.
I selected it all and went to Object>Envelope Distor>Make with Mesh if you practice with the envelope mesh you cn get to even give you straight lines as well

  • Create a vizualization of artwork

    Hi,
i created seveeral business cards and other artworks in Illustrator cs5.
I was wondering if Illustrator can generate a vizualization of business cards (for example) like if it was a real PRINTED business card and place on table ?
if not, do you know any tool that do such thing for illustrator work ?
    thx.

Convert your business card artwork to a symbol, then stack symbol instances to your heart's content. If you want perspective, use "Envelope Destort" on a symbol instance. Choose "Make with Mesh", using 1 Row and 1 Column. Then use "Free Transform Tool" to distort it into perspective. There are several keyboard shortcuts that let you quickly distort using Free Transform:
    On Mac
    1. Hold "Cmd" and drag a corner to move only one corner of the envelope
    2. Hold "Cmd-Option-Shift" to distort 2 apposing corners at once
Adding a little drop shadow appearance will create some realism.
    Hope this helps.

  • Soap and Applets? Is it possible?

Is it possible to use SOAP in a java applet, without having a massive
JAR file that the user is required to download? With my current applet,
I keep on getting the following exception:

What I'm trying to do is have an applet that gets downloaded to the

it SHOULD be just XML over the wire. Or should I try something other

  • Export to EPS on Macbook Pro i7, CS4 and CS5, ULTRA SLOW

Just curious if anyone has run into extremely sluggish behavior when running either CS4 or CS5 on a brand new i7 Macbook Pro.
I have a brand new, 2.66 i7 Macbook Pro with 4 gigs of RAM and CS4 installed.  I had a 100 percent vector Illustrator file that was only 1.5 MB in size. I added a clipping mask and then "saved as" an EPS.  I then received a progress bar that stated "Writing Illustrator EPS Format".  It's been 20 minutes and the bar hasn't even reached a 1/4 completion. I then tried this same task on a different Macbook Pro i7, also brand new, also 2.66 i7, but with CS5 and 8 gigs of RAM.  It wasn't any faster.  Both machines are sitting with the bar barely moving.  I estimate this task would take 2-3 hours to export which is totally unacceptable.
This problem is not unique to this file.  Every time I have tried to save as an Illustrator EPS file, the machine becomes so slow it is essentially unusable.
How can the same thing be wrong on two brand new machines, with two different versions of Illustrator?
Does anyone know what is wrong?

Illustrator cannot export to EPS. You can only save your file as EPS. The difference is not insignificant. To export a file one is generally leaving the current file open and creating a new file that is somehow less than the complete file. Illustrator files exported to TIFF, PSD, or JPEG are less than the full Illustrator file because they are no longer vectors and are far less editable than the full Illustrator file.
An Illustrator EPS file is the data in your file saved in three formats: A fully editable Illustrator file, a PostScript file giving output instructions to a printer, and a low resolution preview for viewing when imported into other programs. While the Illustrator file may be only 1.5 MB, the instructions to produce the PostScript code for the printer might be complex due to blends, gradients or gradient meshes, pattern swatches, symbols, placed raster art, or effects. If the file is physically large, then the lo-resolution preview can get massive as well. A 6 foot by 10 foot banner will need a preview that’s 44 MB, and that’s not even required for printing. It is qute possible for an Illustrator file that physically large to be only 1.5 MB.
EPS is a dying format. There is probably no reason for you to be saving your file as EPS. If you only need to use it in Illustrator then save as .AI with PDF compatibility turned off (this option appears after you slick Save). If you need to use the Illustrator file in another program, the save as .AI with PDF compatibility turned on.
Can you tell us why you are saving as EPS?

  • CS3 Free Transform Tool does not work at all for distortion

I tried everything, worked with vector objects of different configurations and rasterized objects. Nothing works. When I press Free Transform Tool and go to bounding box corner it become rotate or resize tool. When I click a little bit inside the bounding box and hold Command Key (I tried many keys and without keys) it just moves the whole object, it did not select just one point that I need. Envelope Mesh does not work for the same reason, but I do not need mesh tool. I have Illustrator 13.02, Mac OS 10.4.11
The Free Transform Tool functions exactly as the main selection tool. Please help.

I STILL cannot get this to work. I have tried everything suggested in this thread. I have followed the directions in the help menus explicitly. I have tried grouping, ungrouping. I have tried it on type, on type changed to outlines, on simple rectangles. Without success.
When I try to use the free transform tool and hover over a corner of the bounding box, I get either a double-headed corner arrow, a rotation arrow, or a move arrow. Using the first two, dragging the point and then holding down the control/command key results only in a scaling of the object.
Should I restart? Should I re-install? What should I do?

  • Perspective object with a pattern

Hi, I am using the perspective grid to make a 3d looking building. I want to use a brick pattern for the sides of the building. I am having trouble makeing this look right when the perspective is skewed a lot (see right brick wall), the left brick wall isn't too bad. I used an envelope mesh 1 2 rows and 1 column. Is this the only way to preserve pattern when skeweing an object?

    IdeaJoyHnC.
Why don’t you create a wall 2d first, near to the size you need it to be, then group, copy and paste into the grid, see example below.

  • Distorting portion of object under a given object

Suppose you have some fancy drawing you've done. Now you put a simple circle on top of just part of it, make the circle red and set it to 50% transparent. You've now colored the image under just that part of the circle. Easy, right?
I would like to do something similar but with an envelope/mesh... I would like to draw a circle over part of my image and distort the view of the parts of objects under that circle, without breaking any of the connections. So, for example, if my underlying image was a simple grid, I'd like to be able to put an ellipse over it to create this:
Any where I drag that ellipse would distort the region under the ellipse. Is there any way to do this in Illustrator? I know there are various ways to create an envelope or mesh for an entire shape, but I need to do that for just parts of many shapes that happen to be together.
If there's a completely better way to go about doing this, please let me know. I've searched all over the Internet and though I find various things on warping whole objects or using Photoshop filters, I've found nothing that helps this problem in Illustrator.

Well, that's depressing. I need to stay in vector graphics, and I'm not sure I have the skill to draw the shapes as they would be distorted -- certainly not to update those edits if I decide I need to move the distortion over a bit.
*sigh* I hate marking your answer as correct, but thank you for the information. At least I can stop searching for the feature since it doesn't exist!

  • How to use wrap distort on perspective

    Hello everyone!
I'm trying to do recreate the same exact line pattern like the one from the image below.
I can get this same line direction  using the Envelope Mesh tool but the stroke has always the same size, making the flat section on bottom too thick.
Anyone knows what could the best method of recreating this on Ilustrator?
    Thanks!

Apply one of the calligraphy brush strokes on top of your strokes. You can then modify the angle & roundness  to modify the amount of flatness.
