Environment wizards: Kontakt 2 access 16 channels on one track?

Hello everyone,
I just found an extremely helpful environment tool created by kai at the VSL forums. What it does is gives you access through splitter objects to multiple EXS instruments, allowing you to change articulations through midi CC messages. What this means is that you can load all the articulations for a single instrument on multiple EXS instruments, and access them via CC messages from a single track in real time! Best of all, since they are midi CC messages and not key switch information, there are no extra notes in the score! WAY COOL!
I'm curious if there is a way to achieve the same functionality with Kontakt 2. I have already setup my system using a multi instrument object connected to the k2 instrument track, though in order to access all 16 channels, I have to have 16 tracks in the arrange page. Is there a way to achieve similar functionality to kai's articulation tool and allow me to switch between midi channels on a single track using midi CC messages?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. If you would like to check out kai's tool for yourself, you can download it at http://www.elvenmusic.com/vsl/tool/tool.html

However, to me, it looks like you can only record meta events
"after the fact" while I'm looking to change midi channels of
K2 in real time.
Not at all, you can use transformer objects to change virtually anything into virtually anything else, or use faders to generate meta events, and all sorts of clever stuff in real time.
Just 'cos someone demonstrates it one way, doesn't mean you should assume it's the only way it can be done. In Logic, there are often many paths to a given solution.
Anyway, to give you more help, I'd have to dive in and get my head around exactly what this tool does and how.
If all it's doing is transforming a few controllers into meta events, and routing them to your instruments, it sounds pretty trivial. Like I say, create an Articulations instrument as your starting point, and select it in the arrange window.
From the articulations instrument, it goes through whatever transformers and cabling you need, so now, when you play your keyboard on a track assigned to Articulations, your live midi gets routed through your little environment patch. Should be quite straightforward.
Looking at that post, that's exactly what he's done. His object (labelled "Instrument") is the same thing as I describe - the instrument object I called "Articulations" in my example.
He has "Instrument" assigned to an arrange track, so live MIDI and/or recorded MIDI will all be sent to "Instrument", and then on through the spliters/transformers, and then cabled to the resultant audio instruments. Just set it up as he describes and it should work (without me looking any deeper into what's it's doing exactly).
Remember, MIDI data flows between objects via cables in exactly the same way as if you were rigging up real MIDI gear. Just follow the signal flow, and be clear on what you want to achieve. You should put monitor objects in the paths so you can see exactly what's happening to make sure the bahaviour is what you want.
If I can I'll take a look at it a little later...

  • How can I export 6 mono tracks and a one track two channel stereo pair in a quicktime as separate tracks?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.1) and need to export a 5.1 mix as well as the stereo tracks as 7 separate tracks in a quicktime. If I select 8 channels it automatically creates 8 tracks. Also, if I export the the seventh stereo track as mono track won't it play mono?
Thanks in advance for nay help you can offer.

    Hi Richard and Kevin.
First of all thanks so much for the response and info. Just to clarify, you're saying I will need  8 tracks, 2 of which will be designated for the stereo pair, right? My concern is that I'm supposed to deliver only 7 tracks. They want the stereo pair as separate channels on one track. I'm wondering if I can create a one track stereo pair and put it on a stereo track, then export only the seven mono tracks (plus an empty track). Would the stereo still work?
Thanks for the link to the previous post. I had actually read it and though it was helpful in explaining how to set up the audio tracks I was still confused about the export.
    Much thanks,

  • One track-16 midi channels - how to unify?

    Hi Forum
A specifik problem have occured for me.
I use in one track a multiinstrument with EWQLSO/KONTAKT as an host.
If i want in The Event list to specify a range of notes to a specifik/Same MIDI channel
and the MIDInotes that I want to change have diffent channels I presumme a
    transform parameter could do that.
    But how to ?

Can you describe your requirements a bit more fully?
I think using the Functions/Transform/Demix command to separate the track into individual MIDI channels would be the easiest option, then he could used the merge command to put them back together.

    p.s.
I originally was going to post the solution below, until
    I reread the question.
I think he wants to change specific notes (ie: D#) across multiple MIDI channels.
He must have the AU MIDI channel set to "All" and changed MIDI transmission channels on his controller so he ends up with a multi channel track.
If that's it, the easiest way is to use the Matrix editor piano keyboard to select the note (it selects all channels) and then double click on a selected note to open the event editor which will have the all of the correct notes selected.

  • In iTunes 11.0.2.26, an Albums search by track names returns albums as if they only have one track on them, but I still want to access the entire album. How can I have the search results show the entire album (with just the searched for name highlighted)?

    Hello, all.
In iTunes 11.0.2.26, an Albums search by track names returns albums as if they only have one track on them, but I still want to access the entire album. How can I have the search results show the entire album (with just the searched for name highlighted)? For instance, I'm wanting to play an album with a particular track on it or I'm searching for albums that include that track. iTunes incorrectly assumes that all I'm after is that one track and then incorrectly displays the album as if there is only one ttrack on it. This is a bonkers default setting. Can I change this?

Click the search magnifying glass and uncheck "Search entire library".
Type in the name of the track.
Click the album of interest to show tracks.
    Select the track.
Press the X in the search box to clear the search.
Double click the track you want to start playing first.

  • Help using multiple audio channels for one video

    Hi,
I have a video file with 3 audio files (stereo (.wav), 5.1 surround (.AC3), and commentary (.wav).
I have placed these on the time line of the video track, but now I need to have buttons to target each of them from a menu. However, when is choose a buttons target, is doesn't give me the option of which audio channel to play (A1/A2/A3 etc).
Is this possible with just one track, or do I need 3 (each with a different audio file as A1)?
    Hope you can help! cheers.
    Tim

    There is a tutorial on setting this up here;
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_languagenattress.html
BTW I would very strongly suggest to compress your WAV files to stereo AC3 files. It will reduce your overall bandwidth, and you will have a disc that will less problems in playing.

  • Recording more than one track at a time...

    Ok, so heres my problem.
This is going to be my future setup...
    for recording drums of course.
so I'm going to have around 6 microphones. A mixer, and i already have an interface. And of course i use soundtrack pro.
so if the microphones are all plugged into the mixer, and the mixer into the interface and the interface into the computer... wouldn't all the 6 microphones be one track on soundtrack pro? i mean... you can only do so much editing on a mixer. It would be very nice if i could edit every single mic separately.
    so in conclusion...
i want to record 6 tracks all at the same time with every single track a different microphone.
if that is not possible, could somebody maybe tell me how i could do something relatively close to that.
    thank you.

You have to set each track to a unique channel. Open track info and select Channel 1 for one of the tracks, and Channel 2 for the other.

  • How to view score of one track while recording another.

I want to record audio on one track. I want to read the notes and chords from another track while recording. ( I want to use the previously recorded track only for providing me with the score ) I would very much prefer to have Logic chase the score so that I know where I am in the arrangement while recording.
I am aware I can print out the score as a a pdf file and view that, and its not so bad, however I would prefer Logic to follow along the score and let the playhead indicate the location.
I can do this when not recording. I can view the previous track just before I go into recording, but when I go into recording, the score switches to showing currently track being recorded ( which is empty)

    Hi there,
Floating Windows all but disappeared with Logic 8 and many of us mourn their passing. Although some windows are, by default, floating (eg transport), the only one that you can choose to make float nowadays is the Environment, useful if you're setting up faders or some other real-time control.

  • Playback of regions on one track...can I choose?

After tracking into Logic, I often have multiple takes (regions) on one track. During the editing process I find the playback of multiple regions in one track quite confusing.
If all regions are unmuted, Logic usually plays the region that's been recorded most recently. Occasionally it doesn't, it just picks one in the middle. I'm sure there's a rhyme and reason to this but I can't figure it out. The manual seems to offer no help on the subject...
My question is - In a track with multiple regions recorded in the same time frame, is there a way for me to choose which regions I want to hear on play back?
My workaround has been to mute all the regions I don't want to hear (very time consuming!) or to cut and paste regions into one and crossfade edit them together. This usually works but say I have one region I'm using for the whole song, and I want to hear an overdubbed region for each chorus, the only way to do it is to cut up the main recording and splice in the choruses or to cut and mute the choruses I don't need.
This whole process would be soooo much easier if I could just make Logic realize that I want certain regions played at certain times. Anyone know of a way to do this?

"Takes" is a valid recording term, it's just not a valid Logic concept - in other words, there is no such thing as a "take" in Logic.
Recording takes is a standard term. But looking for the "Next Take" keyboard shortcut is fruitless, as "take" is not any actual concept in Logic.
As far as the multitple tracks to one object, it's great for vocal comps. Let's say you have your vocal channel, with a bunch of plugins on it, compression, EQ, maybe reverb etc.
You can track in cycle mode, with each cycle pass putting the next take (see?) onto a new track, but still playing back through the vocal channel.
This way you can mute the channel, or mute/playback each different pass through, quickly comp a vocal from the different tracks and combine sections of them into your final comp, without having to select between different playlists - everything is visible and accessible on the arrange page, and you don't have to have multiple channels with the same plugins on, or resort to a bus.
There are a whole variety of positive workflow issues, which I'm not going to retype here - if these workflow issues don't suit you and you want to work in a different way, that's fine. For me, I absolutely love it and can comp in Logic quicker than any other app - in fact I'm usually (partially) comping on the fly, while recording, when the situation allows it...

  • Merge Clips Question - Sound merged into one track?

    Hi there,
I've just switched over a feature project from 5.5 to 6 and a new, infinitely better equipped operating system. As I finally delve into the synched footage (merged in 5.5 but just about to start cutting in 6), however, I'm realizing that it seems to have merged all the sound tracks into one track? Sounds like it's all there, but just wanted to make sure that was supposed to be the case. The rest of the channels are blank, but from what I'm hearing, it sounds like everything was merged into one, because I'm picking up separate lavs, etc.
Further, I'm assuming that, per usual, an OMF will allow a designer to separate again in the end.
Thanks for any input you can provide.
    Best,
    Stephen
PS - Thanks, too, to those of you who helped me figure out the specs for an ideal new system. Ended up going with ADK and the system's great.

The way I would do it is to unbundle the elements in the two clusters and then build a new cluster and write to the database once.

  • One track doesn't open when opening a frozen session ?

    Hi all!
I did a proper and thourough search first, before giong to this question. Didn't find anything about it. And wonder if anyone else has these problems.
Well it opens, but there's no audio track in it... read on.
All of a sudden, apparently out of the blue, when I open a session again, one track seems to be missing and I have to do an Insert audio track again, and freeze it a second time. It's just a trio recording of bass, guitar, drums, so it's no more than a 5 channel session and track lasts less than 10 minutes. It's even the "low" resolution at 16 bit and 44,1 Khz so it can't be a memory issue. Virtually no effects are applied until mastering out, where there's a little limiter on.However, EQ is used individually on each track and it has been frozen.
Having saved and edited a couple of times, and most certainly not have deleted ANY tracks, which you can't do when once frozen.
When I am opening the session again, just ONE track have lost its inserted audio track, and I can't open the "frozen one" again, I have to open the original once more and insert it. It's always the drums overhead left mike which is at channel/track 4. I've been scrutinizing of what I've been doing and most certainly not have undeliberately pushed some hidden delete keys to make it go away.
It's actually quite annoying. Before you ask, yes, I have the latest drivers, the latest upgrades, and a 3,4 ghz CPU Intel, 4gb RAM. Windows XP SP3. It occurs now and then say 3-4 times out of 10. I have just tested it to see if it had anything to do with frozen tracks, so I closed down the whole session with all tracks open - so to speak - and not frozen and then this error/bug hasn't occured at all. At least not in the 10 times I tried it with "unfrozen" tracks. So, a fair guess would be that it occurs while only I have frozen all tracks.
    Anyone else experienced this?
    /Henke

As I said, read my post "Send me both ses files (no media) via my aatranslator dot com dot au web site".  I made no mention of saving "frozen track SES files without any media".
I understand your frustration but I only made an offer to assist.
Now if you want me to have a look at your ses file to see if I can work out what is going on then send it to me without sending any of the media associated with it.
If not I'm happy either way.
    BTW
The idea of sending 2 ses files is to compare the one which can't find the frozen track with one that has just been saved and apparently includes the frozen track.

  • Exporting 6 channel discrete mono tracks (5.1 mix) I only get 2 tracks with compressed audio and 4 empty track on my output.

Exporting 6 channel discrete mono tracks (5.1 mix) I only get 2 tracks with compressed audio and 4 empty track on my output. I'm using Premiere Pro CC14, sequence settings and export setting pasted below.  Please help need to export feature trailer for iTunes release next week.  Yikes!!!

Thanks for the notes.  Im almost there but not quite.  I create my sequence 5.1 like you said
then map the dots and LFE.  But when I go export media is only give me the option of 1 track 5.1 not 6 discrete channels.
I check my settings and they LOOK right
then I go into my modify clip settings and I see the number of audio tracks as 1 so maybe thats why Im getting only 1 channel 5.1.
But when I select different settings in modify clip environment I can get it to LOOK correct to me
everything seems to be assigned correctly.  But when I go back to export it only still gives me the same option of exporting with 5.1 as a single track.

  • One track of Audio in the timeline

I am only getting one track of audio in the timeline when I drag my clip from the viewer. In the viewer the audio is in stero, but when I drag it to the timeline it only one channel. Is there a setting that I change to get two channel of audio in the timeline?
    Thanks for the help

Right (or control + click) over in the patching bay at the left of the timeline and see if it sees both a1 and a2. Assign the one you can't see to a patch and that might bring it back.
