Envy 7640 and Windows 8.1 - Unable to print

I've set up my Envy 7640 so that it is connected via Ethernet cable to my wireless router. Windows 7 devices can print fine to this printer. The only way I can print a document is by sending the document to the printer via my HP ePrint e-mail address.  But I don't want to print that way because it is many more steps than printing directly, and because my output is slightly shrunken because of the PDF printing process I have to go through before I can send the e-mail. I cannot print directly from my Windows 8.1 64-bit device.  Sometimes I get a message saying the device is disabled, sometimes nothing happens at all. I have four ENVY printers shown in my "Devices and Printers" folder (even though I have one physical device), none of which work:- HP ENVY 7640 series (Direct)- HP ENVY 7640 series (Network)- HP2CFC7A (HP ENVY 7640 series)- HP ePrint.   When I try using this printer, I get a message saying "unable to communicate with printer". I went through HP's online troubleshooting guides for this problem, and nothing has helped yet.  I have done the following:- Unplugged the printer and replugged it in, but I still can't print- Restarted the computer, which caused the print queue to empty out, but I still can't print- Ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which told me  that there was "unsuccessful communicating" with all four of the printers.- I tried opening the EWS by entering the printer's IP address (192.168.1.80) in my browser, and was successful.  I was even able to print out a test page from the EWS.- I checked the ports on each printer.  It is the correct TCP/IP port for the HP ENVY 7640 series (Direct) printer.  I get an error ("Printer Properties cannot be displayed") when trying to view the port for the HP ENVY 7640 series (Network) printer.  The port for the HP2CF7A printer is WSD-f6de40d1-ae7a-403f-8b13-38027e351af.0038.  The port for the HP ePrint printer is 192.168.1.80- Removed and re-installed the print driver software multiple times. Any ideas?  I am extremely frustrated.

Hi, You've got one more than me (HP ePrint, I did not istall it but I also have Fax -)      This is my loan printer and my setup is wireless (becouse my access point is in a diferent room), I only use it for testing: I can ptint from phones (Android phones, iPhone, Windows phones), tablets (iPad, Samung Galaxy, HP 7) and over a dozen of laptops (Lenovo, HP, Dell, Asus) running Windows 7, 8.1 (I hate 8) and 10 Preview. I can use ePrint, print direct, print thru my home network and the setup took only around 10 mins for the first computer (which is my loan HP Envy 17). My suggetion: Re-intall it and select wireless to see any improvement. Regards.

  • New Envy dv7 with Windows 8 is unable to open DVDs

I have a brand new Envy dv7 with Windows 8. Put my printer DVD in the drive to install the software. While a drive is shown in Explorer, the title is not displayed and trying to open the DVD results in an error message saying the disc might be corrupt. I torks just fine in my Compaq Windows 7 machine. The "eject" menu function does not eject the CD, but  does cause my external hard drive's activity light to go on. Interestingly, when I use the taskbar hardware eject, it shows both the DVD and the external hard drive on the same device.

Tried a solution mentioned for Windows 7 but using the Win 8 version (CDDVDWinDiag), which found the drive, fixed some class problems, and then said it could not read the media. Nevertheless, I was able to read the media fine after that. However, after using right click eject, the drive again disappeared from the system. Running the utility again, re-found the drive, but as soon as one ejects the DVD, the drive disappears again.

  • Printing from IE9 with Windows 7. Error message: "There was an internal error and internet explorer is unable to print this document".

I can copy a page and paste it into word and it prints fien. I can print all word documents, Excel document, powerpoint documents, PDF documnets stored and opened from Adobe acrobat, but not PDFs while still online. I have reloaded the printer driver (HP
1020 laserjet) searched through any windows and IE updates all to no avail. I tried running IE as adminitrator and turning off "Enable protected mode". I tried to run Mr Fixit to recreate a missing folder and it said "does not apply to your problem" (or words
to that effect). I am running MS Office 2010 and Windows 7 and IE9. Help!

OK, I found the solution for this, at least for IE 64 bit.  My IE 32 bit never had this problem.   I am using Windows Home Premium 64 bit.
I read, from someone else, that opening IE 64 bit (right click on IE icon) and select "Run as Administrator" would allow you to print.  Doing that way has to be done each time you open IE 64 bit...BUT...If you right click on the IE 64 bit
icon (not the one in the Taskbar) and slide down to 'properties' and then left click, you will see an "Advanced" tab box (about 2/3rds the way down) that allows you to open another properties page.  Click it open and select "Run as administrator".
This will allow you to print by just opening IE 64 bit the normal way and going to whatever webpage you want to print.  I have done several tests and all seems back to normal.

  • Envy 4500 and Windows 10

When Windows 10 came out, I upgraded it.  Everything worked fine except for the printer.  The scanner worked fine.  I called HP technical support and they could not solve the problem.  Is the problem that the driver is not compatible to Windows 10?  If this is the case is there any time frame on when this may be fixed.  I had to revert back to Windows 7 because the printing is essential for me, and I love my envy 4500. Please let me know what you all think.

Hello , I was able to find a Windows 10 driver for your Envy 4500. You could try the download page first; HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers. If it doesn't work, you could try this direct download link.  Please let me know if any of these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks,

  • What usb auto switch is compatible with OSX and Windows for sharing the same printer

I just bought a new iMac for myself to replace my old Dell PC.  My husband still has his PC with Windows Vista and our work stations are set up to share the same MFC with a Belkin auto switch.   Unfortunately that software is not compatible with my OSX and I am having trouble searching for another auto switch that is compatible with both computer operating systems.  Can anyone recommend one to me?

Hmmm, we bought a brand new V300 from Epson and hooked it up it didn't work. We went through all the steps, downloaded all the drivers, and after several days of frustration, it still did not work so we returned it.
Apple hasn't been able to give us technical advice, Epson couldn't help. The only scanners sold locally are the printer/scanner combos.
I was looking at the Fujitso ScanSnap 1500M earlier tonight... am wondering if I can get by with this scanner since most of my scanning nowadays has to do with business documents. It sure would be nice to organize clutter and the text said something about compatible with the "cloud" as well.
I use my iPad all the time to show galleries & collectors the quality of my paintings... type up proposals, etc. Thanks for letting me know about it's compatibility with my iPad, iPhone and Mac.
Thank you for your input, AppleMan1958. you are wonderful.

  • Window 7 and window xp sharing deskjet 5650 printer

My new computer running windows 7 seems to have issues printing out on the deskjet 5650 in that some printout material is not printed or lost, or the pages would be missing.  I tried printing the same material (especially emails, email attachments, pdf files, spreadsheets) on the older computer running windows xp, and everything prints out fine.  I am sharing the printer with both computers with a switch box.  Anyone having same issues as me and suggestions?

    Hi there chanyu1,
Try downloading and running the print and scan doctor located here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03275041&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en
It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.
    Best of Luck!

  • HP 4250DTN and windows server 2008 R2, slow printing

ok, so here is my deal,
majority of my printers are HP 4250DTN, some 4650's and 4700's
i have tried probably every driver from universal to PCL (5e, 6), PS, all possible combinations and still running
into the same issue when trying to print over the network,
i have two Windows 2008 R2 servers in cluster setup as File/Print server,
clients are Windows XP Pro, couple Win7 Pro or Ent.
In either case when i try to install a network printer on a client computer i can install it but managing and printing
is a looooong process, if i just hit print button (in word, adobe,...) it takes about 2 minutes to print the page,
if i want to change any printing properties it takes forever to get anywhere.
i've tried this with all available different printer drivers
(HP Universal works fast but i can not use this driver in my environment because we use customized tray and paper setting and this driver does NOT allow me to customize these),
i am assuming it has to be something with printer drivers, because i am still running old 2003 servers as file/print cluster on two different servers
and when installing a printer through that it prints immediately as it should, no matter if i am on Win7 or WinXP client.
I am trying to migrate everything to new 2008 file print cluster but with this issue i am at the stand still right now.
    any help much appreciated.
    Thank you

I have Windows 2003 servers with the Universal PCL6 driver v5,4.  It printed slower then the previous version.  I manually changed the Device Settings, mainly the Monochrome / Color option.  This seemed to make the print process faster.

  • Downloaded maverick and now I am unable to print and scan from the HP Photosmart 6515

    Hi, kcg1913.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The issue is most likely related to needing a driver or firmware update.  Try all the steps in the article below.

  • Envy 7640 makes chirping noise, as does replacement

    Sorry for the RANT!
Bought Envy 7640 and noticed audible chirping noise from power unit. Researched forums etc and found it is a common problem. Contacted HP support (very hard to find) and spent hour explaining to agent including links to forums/youtube of noise etc etc.
No problem he says - send you a new power unit
Are you sure as this doesnt appear to solve the problem say I
Oh yes says agent this will work.
Complete new printer arrives and problem is exactly the same.
I now have to waste more time getting UPS to pick up a second printer - what a complete and utter waste of my time and HP money
Dont see i have a choice but to take the printer back to the shop and buy another brand, cancel the ink package and start again.
Can i find the support contact details again - can i ****
Unless anyone can help me on this forum i will NEVER EVER go near another HP product as long as my arse points the floor

  • What is the difference between the 7640 and the 7645 printers

I am trying to find out the difference between the HP Envy 7640, and the HP Envy 7645, can anyone tell me?

Like previously stated, refurbished can mean many things.  Someone may buy a camera and when they get it have buyers remorse and return it unused, but, once Canon gets it back they have to completely check it out to make sure it meets specs and then they sell it as refurbished.  You might get a camera with 0 shutter actuations but you might get one with 1000 or more shutter actuations.  Either way Canon completely rechecks each camera before they sell it.  I have bought 2 refurbished DSLRs from Canon and they have both been great cameras.  You couldn't tell if they had ever been used or not.  Recently Canon started offering a 1 year warranty on refurbished DSLRs but I am not sure if that applies to other models or not.

  • Unable to print from MacBookPro to printer in Windows network

    Hi,
I am trying to print from a MacBookPro on an HP printer connected to a desktop computer running Windows Vista.
    MacBookPro  - running Mac OS X 10.7.5; 2 GHz Intel Core 7; 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Windows desktop computer - Acer Aspire M1100 running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit; 2.1 GHz AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core
Printer - HP Deskjet F2210 All-in-one (printer, scanner), connected to Windows Desktop via USB (direct, not hub)
Wired/Wireless environment - Motorola SBG900 Cable Modem, to which the Windows Desktop is connected either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable
The printer will print documents when connected directly to MacBookPro via USB, but over the network, this is showing:
On MacBookPro: In the printer queue, the message shows, "Waiting for print job to complete..."
On the Windows Desktop: In the printer queue, the size of the document comes up as ...KB/...KB (in my case, 10.7 KB/13.8 KB) - won't change, number of pages "N/A"
On the printer front panel: blinking On/Off button light (blinking slowly, suggesting printer is still busy) - the printer will start to kick into action, but the only thing happening is that blinking light...
... and that's it! From there, there is no more progress (even after 10-20 minutes); you have to cancel the print job on both the MacBookPro and the Windows Desktop.
This is what I have tried already:
Making sure both machines are in the same network (check)
Making sure both are in the same subnet (check)
Deactivating Windows firewall and the firewall in the router/gateway (does not solve issue)
Logging in to Windows Desktop over Finder on the Mac using a user name that is the same on both machines (does not solve issue)
Deleting Keychain Access stored passwords in case they were incorrect (does not solve issue)
Making sure drivers for printer are up-to-date on both MacBookPro and Windows Desktop (check)
Deleting the printer from the MacBookPro and letting the system find it by itself when printer  connected directly via USB (does not solve issue)
I have also tried installing the printer as described in Apple Support article HT3049 (How to manually add a Windows shared printer.) It seems like there are two ways to add a printer, one is by using the "Windows" button in the "Add printer" window toolbar, the other is by using the "Advanced" button. Both did not help.
I exchanged the printer cartridges, since low ink levels apparently can also cause errors when printing in a network (read that somewhere here - but does not solve issue either.)
In order to see if the Windows version has something to do with it, I connected a Windows 7 laptop to the printer and tried to print from the MacBook wirelessly to it (no success there, either).
When printing first when we got the MacBookPro, I think it worked to print over the network, but for whatever reason, things won't budge at the moment. (I guess, it's a driver issue, but the drivers are up-to-date.) I must be doing something wrong, I just don't seem to be able to figure out what, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Unable to print to network printer // sometimes with port error

I upgraded to Leopard and am now _*unable to print to my network attached*_ *_Lexmark x9350_*. In prefs it shows the printer and driver installed. Once a print job is submitted, it reads printing, but there is no action on the printer. Other times it gives a port error. I tested the printer under OSX 4 and it printed with no problem. I also have a similar problem on the XP partition of this system. Please advise.

I don't think Lexmark has a Leopard driver for this printer yet. This problem was discussed earlier here

  • Since update to 10.4.8 unable to print

Printing is no longer possible after I have updated my system to 10.4.8. Who has an idea to fix this issue?

I just updated to 10.4.8 yesterday and have also been unable to print. No matter which program I am in (Mail, Safari, Preview), as soon as I click on the "Print" button, the program immediately quits. I've tried re-starting my computer numerous times, downloaded all the latest software updates, sent in Apple Reports each time, downloaded the HP LaserJet 1320 software again ...
I was printing just fine via wireless linksys before I updated - now I don't even get the option of choosing whether to print hard-wired or wireless or what printer - just instant shut-down the moment I click on the "Print" button.
I'm about to try a DiskWarrior fix to see if that works, as I've run out of any other ideas, and I don't see any answers for this particular problem presented here yet unless I'm just not looking in the right place.
    HELP!????!
