Epiphany crash

Hi,
I'm dealing with an issues, that Epiphany crashes whenever I run it through the panel launcher, or from the applications menu. Whenever I run it from terminal, it doesn't crash. When it crashes, it fills ~/.xsession-errors with this:
*** glibc detected *** epiphany: free(): invalid pointer: 0x090feeb8 ***

Has anyone dealt with the same issue too? Thanks

  • Epiphany crashing[solved]

Epiphany crashes when a tab is closed, and also when closing the window (that is, the gnome 'this application has crashed' dialogue comes up).
I've just run pacman -Syu, and the error messages from the console look python related (which was upgraded to 2.5).  It could also be to do with a few parts of the new Gnme release being updated, I presume.
Just wondering whether I should bother to file a bug report, or should I just wait until gnome 2.18 updates are complete?  (If this is going to be more than a few days I'll have to install firefox in the meantime, I suppose).
Also, if there's anything I can do about this in the mean time - here's the ouput on the console from opening epiphany, opening a new tab and then crashing it by closing the new tab.  Should I set the environment variables it mentions perhaps?

The packages were upgraded almost as soon as I posted this, so it seems I should have been a bit more patient.

  • Epiphany crashes, related to nspluginwrapper

    Hi all,
I tried out nspluginwrapper for flash, but due to stability issues, decided to switch to 64bit flash version. I'm running the 64 bit Arch.
I uninstalled nspluginwrapper, and installed flash64. Firefox works stable enough, but if i try using epiphany, i get the following error:
sh: /usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer: No such file or directory
*** NSPlugin Wrapper *** ERROR: failed to execute NSPlugin viewer
*** NSPlugin Wrapper *** ERROR: failed to initialize plugin-side RPC client connection
    *** NSPlugin Wrapper *** WARNING:(/tmp/n/nspluginwrapper-1.3.0/src/npw-wrapper.c:3160):invoke_NP_Initialize: assertion failed: (rpc_method_invoke_possible(g_rpc_connection))
Seems like nspluginwrapper is causing the trouble. Any suggestions?

Yep, the X1900 has a bad dust collecting habit:

  • GNOME extremely unstable

I have a few problems with gnome:
    1) gpdf hangs when I try to open pdf files
    2) epiphany crashes from time to time
Do you have similar problems? Do you have any idea why does it happen?

Thank you phrakture for willingness to help me even though we have radically different views on C++ exceptions.
Evolution seems to work right now, I don't know why it used to misbehave (as far as I remember, none of my mail folders was visible).
Epiphany crashes rarely, so It's hard to be running it in terminal when it does. Same problem with nautilus.
gpdf hangs on opening file and outputs nothing.

  • Firefox consistently crashes when loading Flash sites

For a couple of reasons I decided to go ahead and install OSS a few days ago.  On the first day, the install went smoothly and everything was working just as it should (I used the oss-linux-free PKGBUILD in AUR).  Yesterday and today, however, I've started to get a reoccurring problem that is, to put it lightly, driving me nuts.
Firefox (or Epiphany, though I prefer the former) consistently crashes when opening up any site that uses Flash or Java.  With the way the internet is going, this is a large chunk of websites—not being able to visit YouTube or the website for Enemy Territory: Quake wars, for instance, is driving me nuts.
Now, when I say "consistently" I don't mean each and every time.  I've been able to get these sites to load a number of times, but in the last two days Firefox has crashed in probably 2/3-3/4 of the time when loading any site that has a Flash element.  I've made sure that I have not wrongly assumed this has to do with my newly installed OSS by uninstalling, reinstalling the kernel and all ALSA packages, rebooting, and then surfing the web for a while to see if anything went wrong.  It didn't.
So my question is this: why is Firefox crashing so often in the two days since I've installed OSS?  What can be done to rectify this?
After some experimenting, it seems the problem is worst under the following conditions:
    - Having several tabs open, though not necessarily several tabs with Flash
    - Listening to music and THEN navigating to YouTube or something.
However, it's not specific to these circumstances.  In fact, just before I decided to make this post I opened Firefox, went to a site with Flash on it (one tab), and it immediately shut down.  I tried this three or four additional times and was met with the exact same results.
    Other info
    Firefox: Pre-compiled Mozilla i686 build, v. 2.0.0.11
OSS: OSS (GPL version) 4.0, build 1012
    Operating System: Arch Linux 2.6.23-ARCH
    I've also posted this here.

I have the same problem. I've never been able to identify when it started. Once firefox crashes, mpd, if it was playing, becomes unresponsive. The only way to get a flash site working again is to reboot my computer.
I uninstalled flash: I'm not going to put up with that kind of behaviour. Now I watch youtube videos on other people's computers --you know how they say "You've GOT to see this movie!". And if I really need to see that one specific video, there's youtube-dl.
Unfortunately gnash doesn't work on youtube for me.

  • [SOLVED]Flashplugin causing all browsers to either crash

    Hi guys,
i recently installed arch on old machine i was given. after some initial problems with the radeon driver and x11, i now have openbox up and running.
as this is an old machine, with only 512mb of ram i've tried using low-overhead browsers at first. i use luakit on my other machine and have no problems there, so i've tried initially  using luakit on this one.
i've installed flashplugin, nearly every gstreamer plugin imaginable, and totem-plugin. the latter two plugins are for the many types of streaming sites i visit. but i digress...
my real issue seems to be with the flashplugin.
every time i run luakit and visit a site that uses flash, like youtube for instance i'll get an immediate crash with an an error
Illegal instruction ( core dumped )
every time i run midori and visit a flash site i get the same crash and error
Illegal instruction ( core dumped )
so we move up the bloat ladder...
epiphany immediately freezes up and crashes.
chromium doesn't crash but every flash-embedded page with have a
    missing plugin
message where each flash video should be.
so now with chromium i've moved out of the realms of it just being a webkit issue. but i haven't got the foggiest of where to look to try and find the problem.
flashplugin is most definitely installed. i should also point out that my graphics card is an old radeon 9200 128mb agp. but still, it should be able to play flash videos surely?
thanks for your time, i'm open to suggestions.

i can't get pepperflash, or anything, to install from the aur.

even though i can see the package when i search with yaourt. this happens with every package i try to install via yaourt.
and when i try to build a package myself, the makepkg goes fine. but when i try to do a
    pacman -U
i kep getting these errors -

this will happen for any package i try to make myself.
    here's my pacman.conf signing settings -

and here's my aur repo in pacman.conf

  • Apple's trailer site crashes Firefox w/ mplayer plugin

Okay, this is beyond weird. Basically, I can go and watch a video in high quality or otherwise pretty much anywhere that isn't Apple's website... If I go there, Firefox just crashes without an error or explanation. This is pretty unfortunate since I view the bulk of my streaming video from there. I know some people had this issue before, but it effected all videos with them... This is just effecting this one site with me.
Running Firefox from the terminal is completely unhelpful as it provides no useful info.
I've got the latest versions of Firefox and mplayer plugin and am running KDEmod 4.2 with the qt-gtk-engine thing.
Anyone have a solution to this annoying little issue?
    Thanks!

  • [SOLVED] Gnome 3.8 apps crash with X Window System Error

So far this applications are affected:
    - gnome-terminal (when clicking on menu)
    - gnome-control-center (when choosing Users or Date & Time and some other tiles, choosing account in GOA)
    - epiphany (when clicking on new tab button)
They crash with following error in console:
    (gnome-control-center:12717): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-control-center' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadImplementation (server does not implement operation)'.
    (Details: serial 3583 error_code 17 request_code 148 minor_code 46)
    (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

My graphic card (iI guess this has something to do with xorg):
AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4550 (using catalyst legacy driver 13.1 with Xorg 1.12)
Last edited by szorti (2013-04-24 08:40:26)

    I did a little test:
    - upgraded to xorg 1.14
    - switched from catalyst to xf86-video-ati drive
Most of the errors dissappeared (GOA still crashes).
But now i can only see message tray using keyboard shortcut (super + m). I read that I need to move my mouse fast to the botton edge of my screen - does not work - instead it show up randomly when i moved mouse near the bottom edge.
I don't want to use the open source drivers (slow and laggy with multi monitor setup I'm using). I hope gnome devs will fix this bugs soon.
    SOLUTION (to still use catalyst):
I found out that this is an Xorg 1.12 bug.
    Bug: http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2012/12/msg00133.html
To solve this use patch from this bugreport to compile xorg 1.12
    I used this aur packages:
    1. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86 … evdev1.12/
    2. https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xorg-server1.12/ - I have edited PKGBUILD to include patch from bug report above

  • Print problem in epiphany after upgrade

I am having printing problems in epiphany after I did my upgrade.  It says epiphany book marks crashed, and it is collecting information to report the bug.  But then it closes everything.  Some pages work fine, but others do not.  Also, I can't choose to print a selection any more.
is there any way to go back to the old epiphany, or get this one working right?
    Thanks

    HI,
While in an Upgrade version the drawback of BDC is the screen names,
number and sequence may change in the upgraded version as compared
    to the previous version.
In ECC6.0 you again have to do the recording for the required transaction
from T Code SHDB and then upload the data.
    Hope it helps,
    Regards

  • GTK2 apps crashing left & right

    Hello, all--
This has got me tearing my hair. Lately I've been having GTK2 apps crash in response to very normal actions. The problem seems to be related to libgnomevfs and/or libxml2, but I have no idea what exactly might be wrong. I've tried google, and found several posts about the problem, but no solutions.
Anyway, some points that should be noted:
    * I have two machines running Arch Linux, with *mostly* the same packages installed. The
crashes happen only on one of them.
    * These are not random occurrences. There is a clear pattern of safe actions that never cause
crashes, and dangerous actions that always cause crashes.
    * My system is up to date. I ran pacman -Syu about 1 hour ago.
Anyway, the following is a transcript of what happens with 4 apps: Firefox, Thunderbird, Bluefish, and Epiphany. I show the Arch package versions, and the messages output on startup and when I performed an 'unsafe' action. You'll note that they all put out a symbol lookup error for xmlNewTextReaderFilename.
Thanks in advance for any tips!

  • How to replace Epiphany in Gnome Shell ?

    Hi there,
when im searching for something in the gnome shell overview it offers me to search for it on the web, if nothing is found on my system.
Unfortunally epiphany is opened, but I want to use chromium.
I selected Chromium in the "Default App" Dialog but that does not take effect:
How can i change this ?

I'm looking for doing the exact same thing, but with Firefox.
    Relevant GNOME documentation:  https://developer.gnome.org/shell/stabl … ystem.html and https://developer.gnome.org/shell/stabl … ider2.html.
I also found this commit log that details a bit more which files are involved in the process of making Epiphany's search provider...
Another example with an extension that integrates Wikipedia search in the shell: Wikipedia Search Provider (GitHub page linked).
I tried creating /usr/share/gnome-shell/search-providers/firefox-search-provider.ini based on epiphany's one by just substituting browser names, however while this put a Firefox option in Search settings
of course it doesn't pop up in Shell results... I don't know what I should modify to do so, but it's probably a lot more effort than that
I must add that as soon as a search is done through the Shell that offers you to expand it in Epiphany/Web, a complete Epiphany/Web process (so it is WebKitWebPocess and epiphany) starts in headless-mode and eats up some of your RAM (54MB on my system), even if you didn't follow through in Epiphany (dev blog post about this "feature": https://people.gnome.org/~csaavedra/news-2013-10.html). No need to say that those processes don't terminate by themselves either, and if you do it manually it'll crash-restart your session.
As I wasn't happy with this I disabled Web search provider in GNOME Control Center (Preferences > Search) and use the Web Search Provider extension, the only that allows you to search through configured search provider AND respect your default browser choice AFAICT... Let us know if you find something else!

  • Browsers crash after update (SOLVED - sort of)

After pacman -Syu today, Midori and Epiphany both crash when I try to use the Google search bar.
Firefox seems to be working OK.
Is this happening to anybody else?
    ====================================
Edit: This morning I had another update:
    upgraded libwebkit (1.1.15.1-1 -> 1.1.15.2-1)
And now Midori and Epiphany don't bomb on me when I access Google.
So that must've been the one that had a problem of some kind.
Anyway, I'm back to "normal" again, so Thank-you very much to the mysterious forces who fixed this!

  • Webkitgtk browsers crashes

Last time I give a try for lighter web browsers based on webkit. My choice is webkitgtk based as I use mainly GTK apps (LXDE + SpaceFM + many more). I tried epiphany (hard gnome dependent, but I was wondered with speed and light comapring to Chromium and Firefox and even to Opera) and second try - dwb-gtk3-git (another "must have" app - a little work to set up shortcuts and it is really amazing). But it seems to be serious problem - a lot of websites just crashes in these 2 browsers (all google: google.com, maps.google.com, gmail.com; hotmail.com and many other). But some are displayed super fast and with no rendering problem: archlinux.org, duckduckgo.com etc.
I can't find the reason of crashes. dwb just escapes:

I think warnings about secret service is not very important - the same cras vas with gnome-keyring installed.
I made a strace for both programs - here end of dwb:

in epiphany strace log can't find any suspicious. I usually use linux-pf but tested also on stock arch linux and crashes are the same. I use only "stable" builds (not testing) so it happens on:
    epiphany 3.8.2-1
    dwb-gtk3-git 2013.08.04.g76a6780-1
    webkitgtk 2.0.4-1
Any idea what can be the reason and how to solve it?

sekret wrote:I've been running dwb from the repos for quite some time now and it never crashed on me. Is it because by default I disallow everything (javascript, plugins, third party content with requestpolicy)?
This is the same in my case - seems that webkitgtk (gtk3) engine crashes with some javascripts. But still can't find any more precise.
sekret wrote:I've been on wikipedia a lot recently and it works just fine.
And same here - wikipedia: no problems.
@skottish - thank you for great work. Tried to compile latest stable and unstable webkitgtk but they always fails. Hope it is possible to improve webkitgtk soon as it seems to be really nice alternative to still getting heavier chromium, firefox and unknown future of opera.
