Error 80004005 using ODAC 10.2.0.2.20 / OraOLEDb & COM+ aplication ...

Hello,
<br>
<br>
I have a COM+ application I am testing on 10GR2 that uses ORAOleDb driver to connect.
<br>
The application works fine with ODAC 10.1.0.4.0.
However installing ODAC 10.2.0.2.20 the application does not work and fails with E_FAIL.
<br>
<br>
<li>I have a clean installation with different homes for DB and client as suggested. </li>
<li>All other applications use the new divers fine and connect without issue only COM+ objects cannot connect and use transactions.</li>
<li>I have tried the permissions fix for the bin dir and confirmed the ACLs are in place.
</li><li>I have run the oramtsadmin.sql on the database and confirmed it completed without errors.</li>
<li>I have made sure the MTxOCI registry key values are correct for 10G and that the files exists.</li>
<li>For the login for the COM+ application I used the same login that worked in the previous ODAC, I have also set it for testing to use various admin level accounts to try and get it working, no luck.</li>
<br>
What I need to know is what might a upgrade be missing from the upgrade (or that is new to set) that will make it work.
<br>
I have spent hours trying to query google and the forums for an answer and will continue to do so.
<br>My thanks for any help or knowledge passed on.
<br>
Regards,
Eric

Still working now I have used the MS Oracle driver to connect just fine with the exact same application, with OpenServiceComponents only changing the Provider. Everything else is the same. This leads me to belive I have some setup issue qith OraOLEDB that happens in the ODAC install that I have missed.
Still searching/working on this...

  • TS Failing - OSDSetupWindows - answerFilePath empty? Error 80004005

    Hi there,
    Stumped on this for a couple of days now so here it goes : new here and somewhat "new" to SCCM (only about 4 months of experience with task sequencing + about a year with the operational side & admin)
    That being said : I'm currently trying to get an already existing TS (new client) working. But it fails during the "Setup Windows and Configuration Manager" step. As far as I understood it (reading through tons of articles), the OSDSetupWindows.exe
    will be launched (it does according to the log) and the PC should reboot (continuing with the unattend.xml) which has been created during the previous TS steps?
    I will copy/paste the log after this (firm name/server has been modified for security purposes) but I see this :
    this->answerFilePath.empty() == false, HRESULT=80004005
    This is also the errorcode that appears as the resulting code when the sequence fails. Is this the initial cause? If so : where is this answerFilePath set? It should be a read-only variable if I'm again not mistaken?
    thanks a lot for any and all help!
    /dimi

    Just had a look in the Apply Operating System step :
    1. the option "apply operating system from a captured image" is checked , the Image package is "Windows 8.1 Enterprise en-US", the Image is "1 - Windows 8.1 Enterprise"
    2. The "use an unattended or sysprep answer file for a custom installation" is NOT checked...
    So... Getting closer to a solution? I've already F8'd the PE boot and saw that the unattend.txt does exist under c:\windows\panther\unattend\unattend.xml - also filled in with our values which we specified in the "apply windows settings" +
    "apply network settings" (both following right after a "BCDBoot Fix" step I created for this UEFI device [command : bcdboot c:\windows /s c: /f UEFI /l en-us].
    My questions :
    the package option : what should I specify as this?
    the file name option : can I just use that "c:\windows\panther\unattend\unattend.xml" ?

  • Mysterious ORA-00933 on startup when using ODAC unmanaged/managed

    I've been chasing this issue for a while now with no success. Whenever my app starts there's a chance that the first query hitting the database will cause an ORA-00933. This always happens at the very first query hitting the database. I've traced the command text with TraceLevel, the following command is issued:
    SELECT 1 AS "C1", "Extent1"."SOME_FIELD"
    FROM "SOME"."TABLE" "Extent1"
    WHERE ("Extent1"."SOME_FIELD" IS NOT NULL)
    WHERE (ROWNUM <= (1) )
    which is obviously malformed. My linq query does not contain any FirstOrDefault() or similar calls, it's a simple db.Table.Where(...) query. The last WHERE clause should not be there at all. What really puzzles me is this behavior is non-deterministic. The very same application with the very same binaries and configuration in the very same environment sometimes produces the correct query sometimes not. This always happens at app startup, it is consistent for the lifetime of the app (which is usually restarted every morning due to the inactivity timeout). If the malfunction occurs an app pool restart usually does not but a full IIS restart (without OS restart) usually does fix the issue even if only temporarily. The app runs in its own private app pool so despite having multiple ODAC versions on the system I have verified that only the specific provider gets loaded into the app process (either Oracle.Managed or the unmanaged Instant Client). Sometimes there's no error for days, sometimes I have to take action every morning, and I haven't been able to find a reliable repro. I'm having the same issue with both the managed and the unmanaged provider. Do you have any advice on how to proceed from here?

    Hi!
    More or less the same setup except no MVC and using ODAC 12cR2. The app uses a single database though other apps on the same IIS (all in different dedicated pools) use others. Even though this test server has ODAC11 installed - some use this, some use instant 12c, some managed 12c - I've also verified that the affected apps always get the correct dll version loaded into their address space.
    My dev setup has only one ODAC version (always the latest) and it still bugs out although less frequently. I've tried full installation, instant client, managed client, eventually all produce the problem.
    I'm not sure if this is an edmx problem since some of my affected apps haven't changed for more than a year and were working fine back then.

  • Unspecified error (80004005) with LONG datatypes

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a recordset (using ADO/ASP) which has two or more LONG fields returned but an Unspecified error (80004005) is returned by the browser.
    Any help/hints on why this happening and whether this can be worked around.
    Thanks.
    null

    insert into temp values ('abc');
    cannot (must not) work, when the column is type long (thats a numeric type!!)
    -> here you get an ora- 00911 errorcode
    that the select doesn't work then should be clear.

  • Connection String example required using ODAC 10.2

    Hi All,
    Apologies if this has already been covered...
    I have a .net app running on W2K3 SP2 x86. It uses an Oracle 10G (10.2.0.4) database backend running on Redhat Linux x86_64.
    I have two oracle client homes on the app server; one for full admin (10.2.0.4), the other for ODAC 10.2.0.2. The default home is the ODAC client.
    Normally, I would use the following conn string in my web.config;
    Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS =(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=MYHOST.MYDOMAIN.LOCAL)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME=MTDB)));User ID=MY_USER;Password=MYPASSWORD;
    This works just fine. But now, I have a requirement to use Kerberos authentication.
    I have configured Kerberos for the database, client and Active Directory successfully and have verified all the parameters and that I can connect to the database using the Windows credential successfully - well, at least from the Full Admin home. I have mirrored config changes the ODAC home (obviously updating any absolute file path references).
    However, now I need to update the above connection string in web.config to use Kerberos. This is where I am struggling... Can anyone provide me with an example? I have not made any changes to web.config yet.
    Many thanks, Richard.

    Ok - I didn't need to raise a ticket with Oracle. Trial and error resolved this.
    1. If you are using IIS, then you need to ensure that the identity account for the App Pool is set to the same credential used to authenticate against the database (in much the same way as one would for authenticating against a sql database). Remember to add the credential to the IIS_WPG group on the app server.
    2. For the Website properties / Directory Security tab; depending on your requirements, enable/disable anonymous access tick-box and the Integrated Windows Security tick-box. I am not using Single Sign-ON for the application yet, so I enabled the anonymous access tick-box and set the credential to match the database credential.
    3. If you are using a FULL ADMIN Oracle client home, then use this connection string "Data Source=MyDatabaseName; Integrated Security=SSPI;"
    If you are using ODAC, then use this connection string "Data Source=MyDatabaseName; User Id=/;"

  • Flash10h.ocx error 80004005

    Flash10h.ocx inserted as an ActiveX component in a vb6 form (Windows XP service pack 3, IE 6 sp3, VB6 sp3) works during execution but won't let me save forms anymore with error 80004005.
    And I can't install Flash10e.ocx from a saved version because it still reinstalls Flash10h.ocx.
    I URGENTLY NEED A Flash10i.ocx update to correct this (or a fix solution, of course)
    PLEASE.
    (Is anybody reading this forum?)

    It's good to know that 'm not the only old fart that still uses VB6!
    I've got hundreds of thousand lines of code in VB6 and porting it over to .NET would be very un-economical in this stage. Flash is only a small part of my software, but it kept me awake... I kept loosing projects and had to revert back to backups until I found out that the .frx file is the only one affected.
    It is the first time EVER that a control crashes a whole project and the honour goes to Adobe...
    Hope they'll fix it soon or else I will have to incorporate a web control that shows the flash, not the most elegant solution, but at least that works well...

    FIXED
    1) use cmd.CommandText = "dbo.up_sc888UserLogin2" rather than the Oracle Provider documentation that states that one must use ODBC calling structures (cmd.CommandText = "{call dbo.up_sc888UserLogin2}")
    2) Declare the result set object...
    Set rsUser = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    3) so that one can set the following properties:
    rsUser.CursorLocation = adUseClient
    rsUser.CursorType = adOpenDynamic
    These changes fixed my problem, now on to the SYNONYM problem...

  • Microsoft Cursor engine error 80004005 Data provider or other...

    I'm using Oracle 9i and ASP. And it works fine except for a query that returns like more than 6000 records and I get this error:
    Microsoft Cursor engine error 80004005
    Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status
    /Includes/ValidaUsr.asp, line 60
    The thing is that on my development server it works just fine, and on the production server it cracks. In line 60 I'm trying to read a record, and when the query returns like 1000 records it works perfect.

    Well, you're in a somewhat bad spot. You should generally use server-side cursors and you're using client-side. Likewise, you're using Microsoft's OLE DB Driver for Oracle (known for issues) instead of Oracle's :(
    For the Microsoft driver, the only thing I can think of is switching to server-side cursors. I know that's not much help, but I can't think of anything else that would cause that kind or odd error.
    As I'm done with lunch now, I gotta get back to work.

    Hello, rkkumundan. Are you still having the same issue? If yes, let's troubleshoot the issue by doing the hardware reboot. Your documents will not be deleted. To do this, press and hold both the volume down and the power keys for 10-15 seconds. Once done, try downloading the apps again. If that doesn't help, may we know if it happens only when downloading a particular app?
    We'll wait for your reply.

  • TestStand 2013 error 80004005

    For some reason whenever I try to run the Sequence Editor I get a "System Level Exception" followed by " Creating an instance of the COM component witch CLSID {B2794EF6-C0B6-11d)-939C-0020AF68E893} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 80004005"
    I have followed the published fixes including deleteing stationglobals.ini, running "Version Selector" etc to almost  no avail. The exception is that after a PC re-boot it will run but quite slowly; closing the Sequence Editor and re-starting it brings back error 80004005.
    I have also tried un-installing and re-installing TestStand as well as complete re-installtion of DS 2014.
    Short of re-formatting my hard-drive and starting again I'm not sure what else I can do.
    Any suggestions would be most gratefully received.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1) Do you have any idea what might have changed around the time it used to work versus when it stopped working? Any new software installed? Some utility programs like graphics card utilities and virus scanners hook into all processes on a machine with Windows hooks and can sometimes cause unexpected problems. If you have anything like that installed recently, try disabling or uninstalling them and see if the problem goes away.
    2) Do you have visual studio installed on your machine? What is likely happening is that an exception (really an access violation most likely) is being thrown inside the constructor of the engine when this problem occurs. If you can run seqedit.exe as the process to debug (with native debugging) with the Debug->Exceptions... dialog set to stop on thrown for "Native Run-Time Checks" and "Win32 Exceptions". And then when the exception occurs, break in the debugger, and do Debug->Save Dump As... to save a dump of the state of the process. Then attach the dump file here and we can take a look to see if it gives us any clues as to what might be the problem.

  • Error '80004005' while opening recordset, while others work just fine

    Hello,
    I'm working on my first dynamic site: MS Access Database with VBscript. I have a DSN-less connection. Most of the dynamic pages are running fine, both in the local and remote server. Search results display in several pages when there are too many records, without any error (using a Request.QueryString). However, when I want to navigate from the Master page of results to a Details page (only one of the results' records) I get the following error:
    error '80004005'
    /einservices/EIA_details_list.asp, line 22
    In the file in question, Line 22 opens a recordset. I think my SQL is correct as the entire site works well in the local server.
    There is no problem with my DSN-less connection, as proven by the fact that the other dynamic pages are running well both in the local and the remote server.
    Does anyone have a clue about what may be happening? This is really puzzling me.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    >when I want to navigate from the Master page of results to a Details
    >page (only one of the results' records) I get the following error:
    Are you sure you are using the same connection string on the detail and master?
    Are you coding this by hand, or Server behavior?
    What does the SQL look like?
    Would really need to see the entire detail page code to be of more help.

    Hi Anuj,
    Thanks for your reply!

    I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
    But I found the following information:
    Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
    Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
    eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
    The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
    I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

    </weblogic-connector>
    Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
    For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
    But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

    You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
    It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
    What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

  • Photoshop CS4 "Program Error" when using Text tool

    Hello. I was having problems with Photoshop displaying a "Program Error" every so often, so I deleted the preference file and all seemed good. But after deleting the preference file for my Photoshop CS4 and re-launching Photoshop, the text tool causes Photoshop to display a Program Error when using the tool. It never did this before. Should I reinstall Photoshop? I am using a Powermac G5 running 10.5.8. I have already tried repairing the disk permissions.

I still think it may be a font problem, but without going through my 2000+ fonts and disabling them one by one, how can I resolve this issue?
