Error -9808 using Proxy Server

Hey All,
I can't log in to the iTunes Store or authorize my computer. Trying to do so brings up error -9808. I can however view the store and download free songs etc. I think the problem is related to my proxy server. I live on a university campus and have to go through their proxy, which has all sorts of nasty security settings and such. It has also been suggested that my firewall (Norton 2007) is to blame, but I tried turning it off to no avail. iTunes says they can't give technical support. Anyone have any idea what I can do about it? At least can anyone tell me what error -9808 actually means so I can talk to the administrators?
Thanks,
Tom Siebert

code level setting proxy into the HttpTransportInfo should work, maybe you can add the line to see the error details:
System.setProperty("javax.net.debug","all");
or can you sure your stub has been obtained before setting the proxy?
if not, JAX-RPC has another way to create service:
Proxy p = new Proxy(Proxy.Type.HTTP, new InetSocketAddress("myhost.in.here", 8600));
HttpTransportInfo info = new HttpTransportInfo();
info.setProxy(p);
XXXService aa = new XXXService(wsdl, info);
... to get the stub through proxy.
HTH,
Kevin

  • "do not use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses" IEM setting

    Hi, i would like to find out where can i find the following setting in GPO which used be found in IEM.
    "do not use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses" Enabled/Disabled
    as currently im setting the IE proxy exception list via GPP, i don't see that option.

    Hi,
    As you notice that when we use GPP Internet Setting item to configure bypass proxy servers, there is no "do not use proxy server for local (intranet) addresses" option in GPP Internet
    Setting item. However, as suggested by zanderol24’s reply, we can use bypass proxy server for local addresses option under
    Proxy server to achieve the same function.
    Best Regards,

    Hi I have had the same problem but think I've cracked it with the help of the IT guys at work.
    Steps:
    1)Goto Wifi wizzard,
    2) find the network you want to connect to.
    3) Click on options
    4) click on 'define as access point'
    5) enter the key when prompted. Go back to main screen.
    6)Now goto tools, (from main screen), settings, connection, access points.
    Find your network, click on options and then edit. Check your details are correct.
    7)Click on options, advanced settings. Type in your proxy address and port number. Get back to the main screen.
    8)Click on the web icon. Find your network. You might have to scroll past the standard gprs networks.
    9) Surf (hopefully).
    This worked for me. I hope it will for you too. Not an expert but just determined.

  • Errors in starting proxy server

    Hi,
    i installed DSEE 6.3 Native package for Solaris 10 SPARC platform as "root".
    Then i switched as another user "ldap" and created new directory server instances and started them on ports > 1024.
    Then i created a new DPS instance as "ldap" user on port 389/636. I switched to "root" and then when i try to start the instance i get the following errors:
    Error: Could not initialize the distribution server - Unable to create a client listener 0.0.0.0:389:java.net.SocketException: Permission denied. Disabling the client listener.
    The Directory Proxy server failed to start after the waiting period.
    The ,,,, instance is not running.
    Error executing the operation . The error code is 221
    It seems the only way to have it started is to start it as the user who created that "instance".
    So to have the proxy running at ports < 1024, i need to create the instance as "root" and start it as "root".
    Can any one let me know if there is a workaround to create a DPS instance on ports<1024 as non-root users and then start as "root"

    Hi Deepz,
    here's a quick RBAC recipe I baked last night in search for an answer to exactly your question.
    As a summary, I will say that the only trick to solve this is to know that dpadm is a C cli that eventually, after it's done all its checks, spawns a JVM.
    Consequently we need to configure two exec permission sets. Here's how:
    . log in as root
    . create a profile dps-profile by adding the following line in /etc/security/prof_attr
    dps-profile:::A profile to allow DPS to bind to 389:help=fake.html. create a permission for dpadm by adding the following line in /etc/security/exec_attr
    dps-profile:solaris:cmd:::/path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/dps6/bin/dpadm:uid=0. create a permission for JAVA
    to know which java DPS will be started with, simply do dpadm info </path/to/your/instance>For example:
    /path/to/bin/dpadm info privileged-proxy/
    Instance Path:    /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/forum-5320987/privileged-proxy
    Install Path:     /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/dps6
    Owner:            root(other)
    Non-secure port:  389
    Secure port:      636
    State:            running
    Server PID:       22060
    DSCC url:         -
    SMF application:  -
    Instance tag:     P-A00
    Java command:     /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/jre/bin/javaThis last line is what you are looking for to create permission for this java process to bind to privileged ports as follows:
    add the following line in the same file /etc/security/exec_attr
    dps-profile:solaris:cmd:::/path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/jre/bin/java:privs=net_privaddr. create a role 'dps-role'
    roleadd -P dps-profile dps-role. assign a password to your role:
    passwd dps-role. assign your user the role and profile:
    usermod -R dps-role -P dps-profile yourUser. log in as your user and then
    su - dps-role. make sure your shell is profile-aware. echo $SHELL should output pfsh.
    . you can now create and start an instance that is able to bind to port 389 and 636 without the need to be root.
    Here's a log of my session -note: I use 6.3 zip install here, hence the custom path- :
    $ echo $SHELL
    /bin/pfsh
    $ id
    uid=102(dps-role) gid=1(other)
    $ profiles
    dps-profile
    Basic Solaris User
    All
    $ /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/dps6/bin/dpadm create -p 389 -P 636 -D uid=admin -w /path/to/pwd privileged-proxy
    Use 'dpadm start /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/forum-5320987/privileged-proxy' to start the instance
    $ /path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/bits/dps6/bin/dpadm start privileged-proxy
    Directory Proxy Server instance '/path/to/sun/dsee/6.3/forum-5320987/privileged-proxy' started: pid=22060I do hope this will help you somehow

    please try if it's the same when you launch firefox in safemode once (then it might be an issue with an extension hiding this setting) or else try a reset of firefox.

  • Use proxy server

    I have installed Fiddler software but it seems it changes proxy server settings beside tracking all browser activity due to statistics.
    When I uninstalled Fiddler I noticed error in Mozilla as all browsing was refused:
    The proxy server is refusing connections
    Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
    Check the proxy settings to make sure that they are correct.
    Contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working.
    I have seen that login as another user will work but the same settings will not work under user where is installed Fiddler.
    There is AUTO detecting proxy and use a proxy server.
    How to manage that it will be set use a proxy server but solve browsing when I uninstall Fiddler?
    Is there some Windows 8 configuration as Mozilla is hit by Fiddler.

    Hi,
    I have checked previous posts. I understand it is default Use proxy system and I can use NO proxy. It is an issue that software hits Mozilla settings for the user as Use proxy system and browsing will not work anymore. Fiddler should warn users that even if you use uninstall it will not bring back settings.
    This is time consuming as Mozilla is not responsible.
    Is there system data inside Windows 8 to bring back working Use proxy system in Mozilla for user where is installed Fiddler? I like to use default due to security.

    I'm getting 403 error when trying to register proxy server in my local non-central Adapter Engine. When listing the ProxyServer servlet available commands (http://host:port/ProxyServer/),  it says that "xi_jpr_register_bindings" security role is required, but my local UME has not that role.
    Thanks,
    Gari.

    Thanks a lot Prateek.
    Your reply was very helpful because it works now. One of the configuration steps in the page says to use the Security Provider service of the Visual Administrator to verify that some security roles are assigned to the appropriate user groups. The Scurity Roles section (inside Security Provider service) in my Visual Administrator does not show the roles and groups directly. I had to navigate to ProxyServer and MessagingSystem components so that the roles and groups where visible to me and assign them to my user.
    Should I see them into Security Roles section directly? The roles and groups are not visible from User Management Section.
    Thanks again.
    Gari.

  • Internal Server Error while using Frontpage Server Extension on SharePoint2013

    I am working on a Proof of concept where I am trying to use Frontpage server Extension - RPC protocol to upload the files in sharepoint document library using "/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll". I am using following URL to upload bytes to SharePoint
    Document library.
    http://SPServer/Site/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll?method={0}&service_name=put+document&document=[document_name=<Encoded document path>;meta_info=[]]&put_option=overwrite,migrationsemantics&keep_checked_out=false&comment=
    The same code works on one sharepoint environment but not on other. I am getting Internal Server Error (500) exactly when i try to execute the webrequest.GetResponse for the url given above.
    Any pointers will be greatly appretiated.
    Regards,
    Indra

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that when you use the Front Server Extension to upload the files, it occur the error "Internal Server Error(500)".
    As in your another environment, it works fine, for a better troubleshooting, I suggest you can do as the followings:
    1. Using Fiddler to check the web request which occurs error to find the detailed error message and you can compare if there are something difference between the two environments.
    2. Check the Windows server event log to check if there are something error message in it.
    Here is a detailed article about troubleshooting solutions:
    how to solve Web Service call failed error
    Thanks

  • Unable to use proxy server with MAC OS X Anyconnect client

    Hi All,
    I have a VPN setup thru a Cisco 5520, Windows clients connect just find and the end users configure there browser to use our internal proxy servers.   Users with the MAC OS X Anyconnect client can connect, they configure their Mac to use our proxy server, but the broswers will not work, clients can reach networks and resources behind the VPN gateway and have access to the Proxy(Tried a telnet to that hostname/port).  Anyone run into this issue before?  I am running ASA 8.3(2), Anyconnect(OS X) 3.1.01065.
    Thank You

    We had the same problem.
    We are behind government firewall so I don't know which Cisco firewall is used but we are using AnyConnect to establish VPN from internet to LAN behind firewall. We have no problems with Windows. With Mac OS X connection through proxy didn't work with Safari and Chrome (both are using system Proxy setting), but it did work with Firefox (which has it's own Proxy).
    Finally we found out that ethernet MTU size was the culprit. When we set it to manual, with size being 1347 (or less), proxy started to work.

  • Consistant error message, "The proxy server is refusing connections" What to do now?

    "The proxy server is refusing connections"
    I believe the update caused this error EVERYTIME I open up firefox. I already know how to disable it since I looked it up. I went to Tools> Options> Advance> Network> Settings> and then the four options including "No proxy" which I've chosen so far. I have tried all four options (except manual, because this causes the error), and every one, but manual, solves it. But my real problem is that every time I close and open up firefox again, the option resets back to "Manual proxy configuration" and I have to choose "no proxy" again.
    I opened up Safari to see if it works, and it does work. I think only firefox is affected with the error. I also tried re-installing firefox but didn't work.

    Well, the problem is no longer there.. I don't know what I did, and I don't even think I did anything after giving up and waiting for an answer. But here's what is on user file: user_pref("yahoo.homepage.dontask", true);user_pref("network.protocol-handler.warn-external.dnupdate", false);"
    Now I have a different problem.. My firefox no longer looks like the way I customized it before. It's bare and minimal.. not too sure if this is the default look, but that doesn't bother me much. The prob is after that changed, I can't seem to view youtube or dailymotion videos anymore on firefox. Video viewing is working on Google Chrome, however. It asked me to update my adobe flash player to view, but I already did. What should I call my previous problem? And should I post this new problem in a different thread?

  • SAP B1 error while using citrix server as SAP client

    Hi All,
             We are using Citrix server as client for all our users working in our branches. We have installed sap client in Citrix server and has been accessed by my branch users. We are getting the following error in Microsoft windows
      Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

       abnormal program termination ]
    Please help me out solve the above issue
    regards

    When you got this kind of Run Time Error message, you have no other choice but reinstall. Make sure you do a clean install by delete all temporary files and registration keys.  There quite a few threads discussed this topic in the forum. Do a deep search to find those info.
    Thanks,
