Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. When applying SQL 2012 SP2 to a FCI passive Node
Hello
I am upgrading my 2 node FCI cluster from SQL 2012 SP1 to SP2. I was able to update one node, then I did failover to the upgraded node but now I cannot update the other node (passive)
I am getting "Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress"
Any ideas ?
Here is a piece of the log file

Judging by the error message I would say the setup is trying to access a network share that is no longer available to the node due to the failover. How many instances are installed in each node?
Open resource monitor and, in the disk section, check which files are being accessed by I/O threads. See if there are any files in use that the SP2 installer would supposedly try to access.
If possible, save the resource monitor results, failback the instance, and check disk usage in the other node to try to detect any abnormal disk access.

KB2918614: Error 997.Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.
During the installation of some programs we suddenly get the error 'Error 997.Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.'. These programs always installed without any problems. After searching the internet we found several references to KB2918614 and that
the problems could be solved by uninstalling KB2918614 . Our programs also could be installed again when we removed the update KB2918614 (Vulnerability in Windows Installer Service Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2962490)).
Has anyone experienced this also, what causes it and is there another solution then uninstalling the update KB2918614.
W. SpuHi,
Have you tried other MSI installer like what I mentioned in my previous post, 7-zip or Firefox?
I also tried to install the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime with no issue. This issue happened depending on some certain situation I think.
Need more time to determine, and till now, you may have to remove this update and wait for further released.

Overlapped I/O operation is in progress for MS SQL Server
I have read all the threads and the logs. I have ended up with all versions of SQL Servers upto 2014. However, I get the same error.
The best part is Microsoft support has not come up with a single simple answer to fix it. It appears like a wild goose chase. I got it, MSFT is too big to fail. As the stock suggests (MSFT-Misfit).
Get off the dime and go fix it. Anyway, here is a log of..

Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress during SQL Server 2014 X64 Express
I am trying to install SQL Management Studio from SQL Server 2014 X64 Express, however during installation, getting multiple identical errors:
Error 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress
Previously, someone posted similar question http://blogs.msdn.com/b/vsnetsetup/archive/2014/10/27/error-997-overlapped-i-o-operation-is-in-progress-kb2918614-breaks-windows-installer-service.aspx It was suggested to uninstall: KB3000988, KB2918614, I did so,
but it didn't help. Also, tried to modify registry to add "product code" using ORCA tool. Maybe, I used wrong codes ? Thank you !

According to your description, you encounter the error 997 when installing SQL Server 2014 Management Studio. This issue could be due to the account problem or third-party software scanning. Besides paSQuaLe's post, you could also check the following things.
1. Check the account with which you log on to the server, make sure that it is not an account with temporary profile.
2. Run SQL Server setup file locally on your computer and make sure that you choose ‘Run as administrator’ to run the setup.
3. Disable any Anti-virus and reboot your server.
4. Check for any problems with disk drive where you are installing SQL Server files.

Hi,
I am trying to install certificate services on a windows 2008 server (R2 ENT SP1) with a PCIe nCipher HSM module installed on it. The version of nCipher SW is = 11.30. It is a RootCA, and I am trying to use a key that is already stored in the HSM (I
have done this before with a PCI HSM (older HW version)). I select “Use existing private key” and “Select an existing private key on this computer” on the wizard, then i change the CSP to nCipher and click on "search" the key I am looking for
appears and I select that one. I repeat, I have done this before and it works with a PCI HSM module.
The installation is finished before being prompted to insert the operator cards, and it ends with two errors:
<Error>: Active Directory Certificate Services setup failed with the following error: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress. 0x800703e5 (WIN32: 997)
And:
<Error>: Active Directory Certificate Services setup failed with the following error: The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.

Has anyone experienced this before? Am I missing something here?
Any help will be very appreciated
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Alejandro Lozano VillanuevaHi, thanks for your support.
I have been playing around a bit with some ncipher commands and found this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\nCipher\nfast\bin>cspcheck.exe
cspcheck: fatal error: File key_mscapi_container-1c44b9424a23f6cddc91e8a065241a0
9aa719e4f (key #1): 0 modules contain the counter (NVRAM file ID 021c44b9424a23f
6cddc91)
cspcheck: information: 2 containers and 2 keys found.
cspcheck: fatal error occurred.
If I perform the same command on the original server (the server with the original kmdata folder and with the running RootCA services):
E:\nfast\bin>cspcheck.exe
cspcheck: information: 2 containers and 2 keys found.
cspcheck: everything seems to be in order.
Strange?
Moreover, when I do a csptest.exe command (also on both servers, i find this)
On the new server:
C:\Program Files (x86)\nCipher\nfast\bin>csptest.exe
nCipher CSP test software
=========================
Found the nCipher domestic CSP named 'nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider'
Provider name: nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider
Version number: 1.48
User key containers:
Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
Container 'Administrator' has no stored keys.
Machine key containers:
Container '352dd28a-17cb-4c6f-b6e4-bf39bcf75db5' has a 2048-bit signature key.
Container 'ROOTCA' has no stored keys.
Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
While in the old server:
E:\nfast\bin>csptest.exe
nCipher CSP test software
=========================
Found the nCipher domestic CSP named 'nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider'
Provider name: nCipher Enhanced Cryptographic Provider
Version number: 1.40
User key containers:
Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
Machine key containers:
Container '352dd28a-17cb-4c6f-b6e4-bf39bcf75db5' has a 2048-bit signature key.
Container 'ROOTCA' has a 2048-bit signature key.
Container 'csptest.exe' has no stored keys.
As you can see, the container called ROOTCA, which is the one that I use during the installation, says it has no stored keys. While on the old server, it says it contains a key. Why is this happening? I dont know, I am copying the complete
key management folder from one server to another and initialize the security world with that folder as I always do, and i dont have any errors during this procedure.
Do you know what could be the cause of this? or how can I fix this? Thanks a lot, best regards.

Service 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IRegistrationService' not found (Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SDK.SqlStudio)Did this get this resolved?
My SSMS 2012 was running without issue for several months until I installed VS2012. After the VS2012 I started getting "Service 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.IRegistrationService' not found" when connecting to database in SSMS 2012. I uninstalled VS2012
and SSMS 2012 started working again. Installed VS2012 and SSMS 2012 is broken again.
I tried the above suggestions without success. Here are the error details. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Any Expert guidance will be appriciate and rewarded,
ParimalHi,
I was running into the same issue with Windows 2003 Server x64 and SQL Server 2005. I followed the above suggestion of copying the java.exe executable into the SAP Patch Installation directory which for me was C:\Program Files\sapinst_instdir\PATCH\MSS. Then, when I restarted the Patch Installation, I was able to move past this issue.
Thanks for the help.

Errors when applying sql expression on filter, please help
Hello guys
I was trying to put a filter on the date column and filter between timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-31,current_date) and current_date
I was successfully able to define both field on sql expression of the filter and I selected "is between"
However when I run reports it returns the following errors:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 22024] A comparison is being carried out between non-compatible types. (HY000)
SQL Issued: SELECT "Year"."Transaction Date" saw_0 FROM tranSale_cube WHERE "Year"."Transaction Date" BETWEEN timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-31,current_date) AND current_date ORDER BY saw_0
When I using the same timestamp expression on the column formula and run report without filters, the report will return the correct date however though
I am using essbase as the data source.
Please help
ThanksThanks
However, the error still exist the same.. This error code returns when I run report based on this one single column
when I put this date column with measures and other columns then run report, I get a different error:
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 42043] An external aggregate is found in an outer query block. (HY000)
SQL Issued: SELECT Product."Brand Name" saw_0, "Up Level"."Trial - level 12" saw_1, "Year"."Transaction Year" saw_2, "Year"."Transactoin Month" saw_3, "Year"."Transaction Date" saw_4, tranSale.count_of_transactions saw_5, Avg(tranSale.count_of_transactions by "Up Level"."Trial - level 12", "Year"."Transactoin Month", Product."Brand Name") saw_6 FROM tranSale_cube WHERE ("Up Level"."Trial - level 12" IN ('0', 'Product Upsell')) AND ("Year"."Transactoin Month" >= '2009 Feb') AND ("Year"."Transaction Date" BETWEEN timestampadd(sql_tsi_day,-31,current_date) AND current_date) ORDER BY saw_0, saw_1, saw_2, saw_3, saw_4
I believe it must be something with the essbase that is not serving OBIEE well. Because I tried the same filter on a different environment not having essbase, it return me the right results..
Could anyone help?

Overlapped I/O error 997 installing SQL Server 2014 Express on Windows Server 2012 R2
I'm attempting to install SQL Server 2014 Express on a Windows Server 2012 R2 system. When I do the install, it fails (several times) with an "Error: 997. Overlapped I/O operation is in progress.". From searching the web, I can see many people
have had this problem with this installer and other non-SQL server installers.
I've tried every solution I can find discussed, but none help with my problems The system is fully updated, with the exception of the KB2538243 (VC 2008 SP1 redist), which is probably failing for the same reason.
I've tried removing several updates mentioned in other articles (KB2918614). I've confirmed that I'm not using a temporary profile.
Does anyone have an idea of how I can solve this issue?
Thanks,
Zack

Hello
i have CF development server installed on my desktop for a
while. I used PCTools recently to clean up my registry etc. (I do
not know if this is conected to this problem), but when I went to
start the CF MX dev server I keep getting the following message:

I did a search on this error ID and found a thread related

For reasons unknown to me, CFMX Server service won't start
(had been auto-starting fine for years). When I attempt to start
it, I get "Error 997: Overlapped I/O operation is in progress."
I've not installed any new programs since the server last worked
fine, and I find no solution from a Google search on this. Can
anyone offer suggestions?Sorry, but I'm not sure how to run CF as an application. I
assume you are referring to a command line, but I can't find a path
to jrun.exe. Can you help?
CF server is supposed to start automatically with machine
boot, but doesn't, and I can't start it manually from services.
As far as OS updates, Windows XP performs automatic updates
(annoyingly frequently).
Since I can't start CF, I can't tell you exactly which
version of CFMX I have, but it's older. It shipped with Dreamweaver
MX version 6.0.
Thanks in advace for your help. -
Error 997 on SQL Express 2012 install for Windows 7
When installing SQL 2012 Express on my Windows 7 machine at home, I receive a
Error
997.Overlapped I/O operation is in progress
This happens when it is doing the 'Install Set Up Files' portion of the set up wizard. I am not on as a temporary user. I have tried turning off my anti-virus. I unistalled that MS update KB2918614, tried to load SQL without success
and then reinstalled KB2918614 again. I tried contacting Microsoft, but they want money. So, what is there left to try?Hello,
Please review all SQL Server requirements on the following link:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680951.aspx
Hope this helps.

Alberto Morillo
