Error comes up saying "(app name)" is damaged and can't be opened. Try downloading it from the app store again.

I just downloaded Frontline Commando. When i Try to open them, this error message pops up:
I tried to re download it, but the same error pops up. This is happening with all my apps I download out of the app store. What is the problem?
I am running OS X 10.8.2 on a Mid 2012 Mac Mini with 16GB of RAM.

Make certain you have updated to the absolute latest Java from the official Java site, then try the download again.
YESTERDAY, 2 Feb 2013, new version of Java 7 was released by Oracle.

After 3 different downloads (2 in Safari, 1 in Firefox) I still get this message when I try to open Lightroom package: “Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.pkg” is damaged and can’t be opened. If you have already tried an alternate web browser then your next step would be to try an alternate Internet connection. Perhaps try a wired connection if you are using wireless for example.

Error Message says Preview is damaged and can't be opened.

Whenever I try to open a file associated with Preview by double-clicking the file I get the following error message...
If I open Preview first and then open the same file from within Preview it works fine. I've tried going into Info for various filetypes and changing the "Open with:" value to change it to something else then change it back to Preview but that doesn't change the behavior. As you can see in the error message it says "Acorn created this file on August 27, 2014"... no idea what that means. I tried deleting the Acorn app but get the same error message.
Never seen this before and can't find anything specific to this behavior with Preview on these discussions or on the Web. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I know this type of alert can be concerning and frustrating. There is some troubleshooting that I would suggest when you receive an error that an app is damaged and can’t be opened, however. The first attached article explains this alert and the possible cause.

"Damaged" app. – The app has been altered by something other than the developer. This message will appear no matter the Gatekeeper option chosen.
"App name" is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash.
Safari downloaded this file on Date & Time from URL.
For troubleshooting this situation, I would first recommend simply reinstalling OS X Yosemite on your computer. Please use the instructions located in the next attached article to complete this process.

"Install Adobe Flash Player" is damaged and can't be opened

The subject line of this discussion is what is displayed when I go to try to install Adobe Flash. I have a Mac OS X 10.9.3. I had Flash downloaded for a while, but the last update wouldn't update. It would download, but then when I went to open it it would say "Retrieving Install" and the meter would remain at 0%. It never went a step beyond that. After trying many times, per the instructions of the website, I deleted Flash from my computer using the Adobe uninstaller downloaded from this site. Now that I am trying to reinstall Flash I keep getting the message "'Install Adobe Flash Player' is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image". What should I do from here? I would appreciate any help!

You should make sure you do a complete uninstall of the flash player first and then install the latest FP14 version from this link - Use http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx.dm g

It's happen to me and maaaaaannnny others. You can either Create. New account and delete the old one. If that don't help uninstalling and reinstlling iTunes may help.

"app is damaged and can't be opened" message

I have a problem with a Java application I made using Jar Bundler and then a disk image using Disk Utility. (I did this when I was still using Lion on this computer.) The dmg file was uploaded to a server for students to download. Everything works as expected on all Mac OS except Mountain Lion, where the disk image mounts, but the app cannot be run, (whether double-clicking or right-clicking and choosing Open), producing the message:
“xxx.app” is damaged and can’t be opened.
On Lion, I get a message warning me that it is a file downloaded from the Internet, but I can still choose to open it. But on Mountain Lion, the message is that it (the app) is damaged. Interestingly, I used my other Lion computer on my network to log in to my MountainLion (10.8.4) computer to access the same dmg file and mount it and run the app without problem. I also tried the opposite, downloading the file on the Lion computer (where it works fine) and logging in from the Mountain Lion computer to mount the dmg, but I get the same "damaged" dialog, with no option to open it.
What is Mountain Lion doing? How can I get around this? I need students to be able to download this and run it on their computers, and a good many use Mountain Lion. Any ideas what is happening?

I found the solution since I have been having the same problem. The error message really needs to be updated to give a better indication of how to resolve the issue.
Apparently, Gatekeeper is the cause of the problem. Here is how to fix it.

When I try to update from the app store I get error C08229p

When I try to update from the app store on my iMac I get an error. An error has occured cannot connect to software update server (C08229p). Does anyone know how to fix this. The computer is connected to the internet. I have tried to boot in safe mode but still get the error. I can't update anything. Can anybody help?

"Damaged and can't be opened" file error

Hi all
When I try opening a number of games on my iMac, I am getting the error message (for example COD) "Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare" is damaged and can't be opened. Delete "Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare and download it again from the App Store"
The last tme I used these apps/games (specifically Call Of Duty 4, Doom 3 and Battlefield 2012) was months ago... apart from COD4 which I definitely fired up and was working 6 weeks ago. (Don't play games much!)
I have searched for the answer, and most similar problems are associated with Gatekeeper - i.e. setting to allow install from amy location. But two of these apps are from the AppStore (I bought Battlefield elsewhere).
I have tried;-
* Deleting/Download the app again from AppStore
* Setting Gatekeeper to "Allow Applications Downloaded from anywhere" (Always had this setting)
* Running Disk Utility "Repair Disk Permissions"
* Using AppCleaner to delete all settings as well as the App (**** going to lose my place in the game!)
- Also deleting the trash. Then re-downloading/Installing.
It's really weird that none of my other Apps apart from these 3 games get the error.
I Installed COD4 on my Macbook Air which is the same OSX/Update level (latest) and it WORKS. So something is specifically wrong with my iMac
I'm wondering if there are any OSX security/java/whatever updates which could have affected this But once again it all works on my Macbook Air.
Are there any files/settings that Appcleaner misses that I could reset/delete and try again?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. *Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

for TextMate, you’ll need to download TextMate 2.0 alpha, since earlier versions of TextMate aren’t supported on Mavericks. The file will be named “nightly”; save it to your desktop. Once the “nightly” file has finished downloading, rename it to “TextMate.app.tar.bz2” — that will give it the “BZ” icon on your desktop. Once it’s been renamed, you can double-click on it, and TextMate.app will appear on your desktop. Use your administrative login to move TextMate.app to your Applications folder.
