Error connection sub-report to database
I am getting this alert when I attemp to run a report from within an application but the report runs fine from within the Design Tool. I have not been able to identify this as a Crystal Reports error and have not gotten a response from the application developer. The main report is pulling records from a single table in a SQL Server (ODBC) and the subreport is pulling records from a single dbase (.dbf) file system table. A common identifier is passed from the main report to the subreport and is included in the subreport's record selection formula. As I said, the report functions perfectly from within the Crystal Reports Design Tool but not when executed from within the application.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Fuskie
Who tried setting up the subreport as an ODBC connection to the file system dbf table but performance was so degraded this quickly became an unacceptable option...

Sub reports access database multiple times
Hello,
I have a crystal report created with a main and 2 sub reports. The data source is a stored procedure. when ever I ran/refresh the report it access the database 3 times(first for main report and 2 times for 2 sub reports).
There is a big single query been executed and stored procedure returns the result. Even though the result set is same the report should not access database multiple times.
Is there any options or properties I have to select or missing. Is there any solution to resolve this connectivity issue.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
Each report will each have their own separate connection to the database. In your case it will create 3 connection: one for the main report and one for each of the subreports. If you use sureports, there's no way around this.
Also take into account where the subreports are on the main report. If you have them in the detail or group sections the subreports will generate a new instance each time it runs. So you may have not 3 connections but one for each record or group in the report.
I've had to design similar reports and needed to do it without subreports. I wrote a stored procedure that generated two sets of records: detail and summary. I grouped the data on the report based on their record type (Detail or Summary). I found this also made the report faster.
Good luck,

Error Connecting Crystal Report Server XI to Database
I am trying to install Crystal Reports Server XI on a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 (64 bit). The software installs fine; however, when I try to login to the CMS (central management server), I get the following error:
Falied to retrieve cluster name from the database. Reason: Unable to connect to the database using the provided connection string. Reason: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.
If I go to the configuration tab of the CMS and specify my data source, it acts like it is set up correctly.
I am not sure what the problem is. Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks.
DanielleMake sure that you have the 32bit ODBC driver activated for your BOBJ repository connection (configure this using odbccad32.exe)
Regards,
Stratos
PS: I assume that Windows 2008 and SQL server 2008 were never officially supported for CRS XI. But I guess that also official support for CRS XI has already expired. -
Error Connecting to Access 2007 database
Hi there,
We are seeing the below error when trying to Connect to Access 2007 using Crystal 2008, when using the
Access/DAO connection wizard ..
Logon failed
Details: DAO Error Code: 0xd0f
Source: DAO.Workspace
Description: Unrecognised database format 'path to database\crs project database.aaadb
When we go to open the Access 07 file we have to select all files\there is no Option for Access 2007
Maybe we need to install something additional?
Many thanks
Jon KerrLook for Product info for our next version to see if it added to supported platforms for the next release of Crystal Reports.
Update:
Confirmed that Microsoft is not enhancing the DAO engine so we will not be updating our connector either. ODBC and OLE DB work great.
Even More info form our Product Team:
Just to be really clear - Microsoft is not exposing Access 2007 format databases (.accdb files) via DAO. They have declared DAO dead and are not enhancing it. OLEDB is the preferred way to connect to Access 2007 files.
As noted in the Platform Support document for Crystal Reports 2008:
DAO technology cannot be used to access the Microsoft Office 2007 file formats: Microsoft Access 2007 .accdb, Microsoft Excel 2007 .xlsx (XML) and .xlsb (Binary). These file formats are supported using the Microsoft 2007 Office System drivers for ODBC and OLEDB.
Anyone can download the Microsoft 2007 Office System drivers for ODBC and OLEDB, here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en
There is no charge for those drivers. Of course if you have Office 2007 installed, you donu2019t need to download the drivers.
Starting with Office 2010, there will be 64-bit versions of these drivers, which will help our 64-bit Visual Studio customers.

Error connecting to Oracle 11g Database
Hi All
I am testing .NET connectivity to Oracle 11g and I am not successful for a while.
I've tried to connect to database using library included in Oracle 10.2.0.3 Client and as a result I've got "invalid username or password" error. Then I've tried to use ORAC 11.1.0.5.10beta. I successfully connected to the server, but when I try to exec any query my program hangs.
Both of them work correctly with Oracle 9i database.
Also I've tried Microsoft .NET provider and it connects and executes queries fine (though 3 times slower).
How do you think what is reason or how can I find the reason?Hi All

System.out.println(e);i don't think its your connection. You must be hitting the DB otherwise you would not be getting an ORA error returned wrapped in an SQLException. I think its your pseudo-SQL, it simply says that you are missing a comma in an update string. Realistically, it could be that it is being misled into looking for a comma, probably because you have put a ';' at the end of your update string...

Error connecting to database from Crystal Report
Hi,
I am using Crystal report 2008, .NET 3.5 on Windows Server 2008 + SQL Server 2008
I have a batch that generates report (via export) then this batch will send the exported report via email.
I am encountering this error when reading report from BO Server
Error: CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.LogOnException: Database logon failed. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x8004100F): Database logon failed.

While when trying to read the report from physical file within the server, it will give me this error

The report is working in our SIT environment but it is not working in our UAT environment.
I have tried the following:
1) running the batch (that generates the report) in SIT environment to call SIT database
Working fine
2) running the batch (that generates the report) in SIT environment to call UAT database
Will give the above error
3) running the batch (that generates the report) in UAT environment to call UAT database
Will give the above error
4) running the batch (that generates the report) in UAT environment to call SIT database
Working fine
For reading report from BO Server, I have tried viewing the report directly and scheduling the report directly from BO Server and it works fine.
Also I have tried to 'verify database' on the UAT report, but it seems it didn't solve the issue.
Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? Or what could cause this?
Appreciate your help.
Thanks.Here's how I connect to the database
when reading report from bo server:
Dim enterpriseSession As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.EnterpriseSession
Dim enterpriseService As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.EnterpriseService
Dim infoObjects As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoObjects
Dim infoObject As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoObject
Dim infoStore As CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore
Dim query As String = ""
query = "SELECT * FROM CI_INFOOBJECTS WHERE SI_PROGID = 'CrystalEnterprise.Report' AND SI_NAME LIKE '" & reportName & "'"
'Create a session manager
Dim sessionMgr As New CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.SessionMgr
'Log into BusinessObjects Enterprise
enterpriseSession = sessionMgr.Logon(cu.BOXIUser, cu.BOXIPwd, cu.BOXIServer, cu.BOXIAuthentication)
'Create the infostore object
enterpriseService = enterpriseSession.GetService("InfoStore")
infoStore = New CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore(enterpriseService)
infoObjects = infoStore.Query(query)
If (infoObjects.Count > 0) Then
infoObject = infoObjects(1)
crDoc.Load(infoObject, enterpriseSession)
crDoc.SetParameterValue("@batchID", batchID)
Dim CrExportOptions As ExportOptions
Dim CrDiskFileDestinationOptions As New DiskFileDestinationOptions()
Dim CrPDFFormatOptions As New PdfRtfWordFormatOptions
Dim CrExcelFormatOptions As New ExcelFormatOptions
CrDiskFileDestinationOptions.DiskFileName = reportFile
CrExportOptions = crDoc.ExportOptions
With CrExportOptions
.ExportDestinationType = ExportDestinationType.DiskFile
.ExportFormatType = IIf(reportFormat = IAConstant.PDF, _
ExportFormatType.PortableDocFormat, _
IIf(FINRptFormat = IAConstant.EXCELONLY, _
ExportFormatType.ExcelRecord, ExportFormatType.Excel))
.DestinationOptions = CrDiskFileDestinationOptions
.FormatOptions = IIf(reportFormat = IAConstant.PDF, _
CrPDFFormatOptions, CrExcelFormatOptions)
End With
crDoc.Export()
Else
Throw New ApplicationException(Constant.APP_ERR & " - Report not found")
End If
The error is thrown when trying to export --> crDoc.Export()
The username and password are correct because it is the same username and password that the batch used to extract the data in the initial stage.
Here's how my batch works:
1) Extract and massage data directly from .net SP (this is working fine)
2) Obtain the report then use the same connection string (for physical path report) or use the report connection string (for bo server report), this report is using Stored Procedure (the problem starts here)
For reading report from bo server, I have also checked that the connection from the report itself is correct, because we can schedule/view the report from bo server successfully.
SQL Driver, is it the SQL Native Client you are saying? It's SQL Native Client 10.
I think we are using Business Objects Enterprise XI 3.1 Client Tools SP2 in our apps server. -
Hii all,
I have a subscription which used to send report email daily 10 am morning

why this occurs ?? at the time of subscription running time ??
i have checked there is not error of subscription it runs fine ..
only today errored ..
Kindly , help me
Dilip Patil..Hi Dilip,
Based on the error message "An error occurred within the report server database. This may be due to a connection failure, timeout or low disk condition within the database." it seems the issue is caused by the Report Server catalog databases are
corrupted.
To fix this issue, I suggest that you use the Reporting Services Configuration Manager to recreate the Report Server catalog databases. In addition, please make sure report server instance can connect to the report server database. For more details about Configure
a Report Server Database Connection (SSRS Configuration Manager), please see the following document:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-IN/library/ms159133.aspx
Besides, if the issue is caused by the connection to the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server catalog database is timeout. Please refer to the following thread:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/db4ca6c2-5445-4ff9-9f63-e20f3859cc70/error-throwing-microsoftreportingservicesdiagnosticsutilitiesreportserverstorageexception-an?forum=sqlreportingservices
If the problem is still existed, I would appreciate it if you could give us detailed error log, it will help us move more quickly toward a solution.
Thanks,
Katherine Xiong

Error exporting report with sub report and parameters
Post Author: joncombe
CA Forum: JAVA
I am using the JRC to export to a PDF file a report that has a sub report within it. Both the main and subreport connect to an Oracle database via an Oracle ODBC connection and both share a single parameter, RUN_ID. I need to set a value for the parameter in both reports. crystalreportrunner.CrystalReportRunner.main(CrystalReportRunner.java:91)I believe the error is that the SQL query in the main report is being updated with the RUN_ID but the SQL in the sub-report is not. I am not sure why the update to set the RUN_ID in the second SQL query fails, but it seems to me the JRC is not detecting it as a missing parameter and is passing the SQL including {?RUN_ID} to Oracle, causing the JDBC driver to fail with this NullPointerException. I think this because further up in the log I see this:-INFO - Executing query: SELECT v.* FROM v_ger_main vwhere v.run_id = 254INFO - Verifying databaseINFO - Executing query: SELECT h.* FROM v_ger_av_ls_tagging hwhere h.run_id = {?RUN_ID}ERROR - QueryEngine error: verify database failed.Both connections are from the same database, but the first has the updated value (254) whilst the second query still seems to have the parameter and so fails to verify.Can someone suggest how I can fix this problem or if I have missed something that is required?Thanks.Jon.Post Author: Ted Ueda
CA Forum: JAVA
What happens if, instead of passing in parameter field values, you pass the report source object to the viewer (ReportViewerBean for stand-alone or CrystalReportViewer for web)? The viewer should introspect the report for the parameter fields and bring up a parameter field entry dialog box. Does such a dialog box come up? Is only the main report parameter field queried for, or both main and subreport paramter fields? When you enter correct values for the field, does the report display?
Hopefully, the above should narrow down the issue.
By the way, JRC doesn't support ODBC connections, only Java based connectivity such as JDBC, JavaBeans and XML. If you have a report with ODBC, then it looks for a JNDI connection with the same name.

Database Connector Error in Crystal Reports
Hi,
I have a report which has two sub reports. One of the sub reports use a view to fetch data while the other uses a SP. Now the problem that i am facing is as follows-
The sub-report using the stored procedure fails when i execute the main report but if i first execute the sub report with the SP, and then again run the main report, it works fine.
I tried an ODBC trace to find out why this was failing. When the main report is run for the first time, the sub report was not executed properly. The sub report uses a SP which expects two parameters. So at the first run, only one parameter gets passed to the sub report. however on the second run, the sub report successfully gets both the parameters.
The error that is encountered says:
Database Connector Error: 'HY000:[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle driver][Oracle]ORA-06550: line 1, column 58: PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol ")" when expecting one of the following:
(-+ case mod new not null others <an identifier>
<a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable> avg
count current exists max min prior sql stddev sum variance
execute for all merge time timestamp interval date......
Could any one please help on this one? I am almost crazy trying to figure this out.
Regards,
Rashmi.Please re-post if this is still an issue to the Data Connectivity - Crystal Reports Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly

Hi,
Suddenly I got this error in SCVMM 2012-R2 Roll-up 1:
When working with User-Roles (create/update) or assigning a Cloud :
"VMM encountered a critical exception and created an exception report....
search user forums for well-known failure root causes for self-help" (how sweet)... (if it's "well known", why not coding the exception handling correctly?)
The relevant part of the report might be this:
"SCVMM Version=3.2.7620.0
SCVMM flavor=C-buddy-RTL-AMD64
Default Assembly Version=3.2.7620.0
Executable Name=vmmservice.exe
Executable Version=3.2.7510.0
Base Exception Target Site=140717670746840
Base Exception Assembly name=System.Data.dll
Base Exception Method Name=System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError
Exception Message=Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again."
(side question: what does this mean: "Ensure that the SQL Server is ... configured correctly"?
I can say that :
SQL is configured by the book, that all services are running (did a reboot of VMM server too) and that all other VMM functions work OK. I don't believe that SQL is only used for user-roles...
Acting as Domain admin and VMM admin.
All updates are installed.
Please find the report @the and and a screen shot attached.
Thanks for any help.

Thomas.I (quite honestly) am one of those folks that generally do not read the KB articles associated with a patch or UR or SP - as you don't expect details like have been put into this particular one.
But as Kristian pointed out - within that KB article is the SQL script that modifies / updates this SQL Stored Procedure.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/scvmm/archive/2014/01/29/how-to-update-scvmm-2012-r2-to-update-rollup-1.aspx
Needless to say, the feedback was given to MSFT that folks would overlook that this SQL script needed to be run. So we are just trying to help out.
