ERROR: Excel 97, LabVIEW 7.1 and Windows XP

Hi,
I began this discussion on another forum but I was mistaken in forum.
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=4170&message.id=4919#M4919
I cannot continue my development.  Christophe S. sent VIs to me which work but I do not manage to open my own Excel file.  As soon as I add a node of property or method not present in his VIs, I have the same error again.
I need to open an Excel file already filled.  I must modify the value of cells and the name of the various sheets of the workbook. I must also launch macros.  I already did all that at a customer with Excel 2000 under Windows98 and Windows2000 but my program does not work with Excel97.
I practically tested all the examples codes and took all the advice of the site NI on this subject but they do not work even if they must work with Excel97. I thought that perhaps it was because of the pack 2 of Windows XP but on a PC with the pack 1, I have the same result. I should pass soon on Excel2003 but I do not know yet when and I cannot stop my développment for that.
Did somebody already encounter this problem?  If so, how did you solve it? Thanks.

In this moment, I am overloaded of work and I did not have time to carry out the tests which Chritophe S proposed to me.  On one PC, I had Office 97 but also Word2000 and Works2000.  It is possible that LabVIEW saw only ActiveX control 2000 and not 97.  From where my problems with Excel97.  I must uninstalle all that is 2000 and to remake a test with Office97.
I think that it will be difficult even impossible to develop VIs compatible with all the Excel versions.  When you call a node of property or a node of method, LabVIEW "looks at" which version of Excel is installed on the PC and, if the test required by Christophe S. is conclusive, that means that it would take into account only most recent ActiveX controls.
If you create your VIx on PC having each one a version of Excel then that you recover on each one the program and that you finds a solution to see the version of ActiveX controls installed, you can perhaps develop your program.  But is this really useful? On the forum, we can find examples for each version. Nobody use all version in same time (more exactly of the very different versions unit).
I think that it is better to develop a new program for each version.
Rmq:  it can perhaps exist various versions of ActiveX control for the same version of Excel.  You see that your program can quickly become painful to keep up to date.
I don't know if there are the same ActiveX problems with another programming language.  So not, you can develop a DLL with another programming language and calls it under LabVIEW, if you want to really develop your "universal" VIs.
I did not understand which complete documentation you sought.  On "Excel and its ActiveX controls" or on "LabVIEW and Excel"?
Good luck

Thanks.  I have followed all the instructions as recommended and nothing has worked so it looks like the restore/update may have been interrupted - would loss of internet connection do this?
Yes it would, possibly even brick it.
Have successfully connected my ipod nano with iTunes so looks like the device driver is working.
Can I use my ipod nano USB connector to check?
It is not much help to you, since the device that you need still not recognized.
Anyway looks like I may have to swallow the loss of data.  Have set-up a call for tomorrow with Apple support so will wait until after this before doing the factory restore!
Good luck, but if you expect miracle from that call good luck again.

If you already have IIS web server running, you need to run the LabVIEW web server on a different port to avoid conflicts. It probably won't start because the port 80 is already in use.
Check options.."Web Server: Configuration" within LabVIEW.

  • Bug report: on LabVIEW 2011 SP1 and Windows 8 'Open URL in default browser.vi'

    Dear colleagues,
    Here is a bug report.
Culprit: 'Open URL in default browser.vi'.
    System: Windows 8, Professional. LabVIEW 2011 SP1.
Abnormal behaviour and steps to reproduce:
Above mentioned VI doesn't work when LabVIEW was started with administrator privilegies. And it works as expected when LabVIEW running in normal (non-administrator) mode.
Looking forward to see this fixed.

    Hi Igor,
Unfortunately LabVIEW 2011 SP1 does not support Windows 8. I tested this behavior with LabVIEW 2012 SP1 on Windows 8 and everything worked correctly.

Yes, and a simple search (did you even try?) would have yielded that this is a known issue. 8.6 is not officially supported with Windows 7. You can try what this KB article says, and if that doesn't work, you can try to run Windows 7 in XP compatibility mode to see if that allows you to install it. Otherwise,

  • SDK error while installing Labview 8.2 on Windows 7

    Hello all,
I have been trying to install LabVIEW 8.2 version software on Windows 7. I always see an SDK error - 12. I saw an helpful artcle in knowledge base but i am not clear why this is happening?
Could somebody explain indetail whether LV8.2 is compatible with Windows 7?
If it is not compatible then i would like install vista or XP on my new Laptop, to work in LV8.2.
    Regards
    Visu

    Hi Viswa,
Im afraid LabVIEW 8.2 is not compatible with Windows 7. If you wanted to use LabVIEW Windows 7 you would need a later version of LV, such as LabVIEW 2009.
If you need to use LabVIEW 8.2 then installing Vista or XP on your machine would mean you could.

  • Error on installation (Crystal Reports 2008 and Windows 7)

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Crystal Reports 2008 on a Windows 7 laptop.  Receiving Error 1904, Module C:\PROGRAM FILES\BUSINESS OBJECTS\BUSINESSOBJECTS  ENTERPRISE 12.0\win32_x86\ReportConvTool.dll failed to register.  This seems like a premissions error, but I have full admin rights on this system.
We are starting training next week and I need to get the software installed.
Any help you can provide would be great!
    Thanks!

I have been looking and found the exact error above.
So 2 of us have it but as yet there is not a fix.
I understand that SP3 will help, but my problem at this second is I can not get the productr toload for the first time.
Thus I do not think  I can apply SP3.
Or (which is possilbe) am I wrong
I will give it a go
    Thanks

  • Entering description of event into iCal, pasted too much text into event, responded with The server responded with an error. Preferences is greyed out, and window pop up comes up every time I open iCal and doesn't go away. Force quit, still opens. Help?

While pasting event description into iCal, accidently pasted too much text, causing "The server responded with an error" pop up. This pop us includes the event description, but because of the mass amount of text, the window shoots off the screen to the bottom, so if there was an exit red "x" available, it isn't visible or accessible. The iCal>preferences is greyed out and I have force quit and it pops up each time I use iCal. Is this even fixable?

  • Interfacing of RS232 serial devices through USB ports within LabVIEW 6.1 and Windows 2000 Pro?

I have a data acqusition requirement of using 5 RS232 devices, but the motherboard i use only has two serial ports. However, it does have 4 USB ports. Does anyone know if it is possible to use these USB ports to input data from an RS232 device through a serial to USB converter?
Does LabVIEW 6.1 support this under Windows 2000 Pro?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fraser

    Hi Fraser,
I just moved an app to a new laptop and had to use a USB to serial comm adapter. At first try the app did not find the comm port.
After sleeping on it, we downlaoded the most up-to-date driver for the device and upgraded VISA to the latest and gretest version.
    Everything worked fine after that.

  • Fieldpoint Hardware Drivers that are compatible with LV 8.5 and Windows Vista

I trying to develop in LabVIEW for some Fieldpoint hardware. I was going to download the hardware drivers from NI, but only see drivers that are compatible with Windows XP and LV 8.2
Or, am I just misinterpreting this?
Also, are there any potential conflicts with me developing on Vista, if my end-user, is uding another OS?

One should welcome adversity as an opportunity to excel.

    Hi Daddy-O,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments.  This is a little misleading, and unfortunately the driver you are looking for is currently not directly searchable.  In order to use your FieldPoint hardware with LabVIEW 8.5 and Windows Vista, you will need the FieldPoint 6.0 driver.  This can be found within the disk that is distributed with new FieldPoint hardware, and any Device Drivers CD from August 2007 forward.  Unfortunately, a standalone installer is not available for this driver, and if you do not have a hard copy of the Device Drivers, you can download this here.  From this installer, you should be able to select FieldPoint 6.0 and install this software.
I hope this helps!  Let me know if there is anything else I can clarify.  Have a great day!

  • Adobe Reader X 10.1 Install Failing on XP SP3 and Windows 7 (64 bit)

After using the Customization Wizard 10 to create an .mst and executing the install via SCCM 2007 which I have done many times before, I am getting the following error on both the XP SP3 and Windows 7 (64 bit) machines in the Application Event Log:
    Product: Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) -- Error 2229.Database: . Could not load table 'ServiceInstall' in SQL query: SELECT `Name`,`DisplayName`,`ServiceType`,`StartType`,`ErrorControl`,`LoadOrderGroup`,`Dependenc ies`,`StartName`,`Password`,`ComponentId`,`Directory_`,`FileName`,`Arguments`,`Description ` FROM `ServiceInstall`, `Component`, `File` WHERE `ServiceInstall`.`Component_` = `Component`.`Component` AND (`Component`.`KeyPath` = `File`.`File`) AND (`Action` = 1 OR `Action` = 2).
I used the following .msi to create the.mst:
    AdbeRdr1010_en_US.msi
Does anyone know where to go from here?
    Thanks, Sandy

I have found another possible bug affecting network printing with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode on XP SP3 machines that has not been previously documented:
A number of users in one office were not able to print with 10.1.2 in Protected Mode (even with the printing hotfix/patch previously released) to their default printer; however they were able to print fine with 10.0.1 in Protected Mode OR by disabling Protected Mode in 10.1.2.  They could print to Microsoft XPS Document Writer, however.
The cause was determined to be an issue with capitilization of the printer name in the registry!  10.1.2 in Protected Mode seems to be sensitive to this for some strange reason, though other apps don't care.
Check the following keys and ensure the capitalization of any references to name of your printer (or UNC path of the printer share) is consistent:
    HKCU\Printers\Connections
    HKCU\Printers\Settings
    HKCU\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\windows\Device
In our case, the reference to the name of the default printer was in lowercase, while the printer path recorded under settings was in UPPERCASE.   Changing this to match immediately fixed the problem.

    Hi Leo22,
Does this error occur if you use any of the example programs that come shipped with LabVIEW? I would try opening one of the examples that write data to Word and see if those give you an error. Also, have you tried just putting down a New Report.VI and change the report type to Word? If this simple vi (that's all you need to open Word) breaks, I would check to see if there are any instances of Word still open. Check the task manager to see if any word processes are still open. There should not be a problem accessing Word 2003 from LabVIEW 7.0. If neither of these solutions work, please give some more detail about your application and we can research further. Thanks!
