Error in displayed french characters

Hello,
I'm using a DB 11g configured with NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.US7ASCII
I have a WLS_FORMS server, the .env file has NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.US7ASCII
FMX files are compiled in an environment having NLS_LANG=FRENCH_FRANCE.US7ASCII in its registry.
When I open the application, all specific characters can't be properly displayed (I have an ugly square instead).
Where do I miss something ?

In any case: US7ASCII is not the correct characterset for you, as it won't allow you to store your french characters. Take a look:

So if you really have US7ASCII as database characterset you'd need to change that to something that fits your needs. The ultimate characterset where you shouldn't have problems storing any characters would be AL32UTF8, and as it is a superset of US7ASCII you should be able to change it with csalter

Report layout in french not displaying french characters properly

I have a report layout that I have created with a 3rd party tool (j4ldesigner). All it has on it is one label (displaying a couple of french characters as a test
). Within APEX I have created a test report layout and imported it as a named column report layout type. I then created a very simple report query and associated it with the test layout. When I run the test report, the layout launches but the characters éâ appear as Ã©Ã¢.
So I'm thinking this has to do with language somehow. I have other reports which are generic named column reports, but those are manually entered and seem to work fine. The named column layout is imported, and I'm assuming some sort of conversion is happening where those special french language characters are concerned.
The fact is this is a 11.2.0.3 database. I was assuming the language set would use the standard language librariy files which come with 11G (ie $ORACLE_HOME/nls/data) so I wouldn't have an issue. Since it is not working, do I need to use the language files associated with 9idata? Or is there an init.ora parameter I am missing?

Within APEX I have created a test report layout and imported it as a named column report layout type.Make sure the Report Layout File is in UTF-8 encoding. Most of the times, the issue is with file encoding type.
If you use text editors like [url http://notepad-plus-plus.org]notepad++ you can see and convert from one encoding to other.

How can I display special characters of NonEuropean languages (French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.) using import string mechanism

I would like to translate the User Interface of my application to French, Italian, Spanish, German and Portuguese.
When I put special characters in the import string file they showed up as ? (question mark)
The import strings file includes the following parameters for each string: font, text, size and style. (but no field for script)
In order to use a unicode font such as Arial I need to select a french script. But this option is not supported bu LabView (As far as I saw)
A) Is there a font which is directly German/ French etc and not regula font + script parameter?
B) Are there another required step
s for special characters support? (When I put speciual characters in the import string file the showed up as ? question mark)

French characters fail to display properly (have tried all the regular fixes)

I am updating a website with french characters and they are not displaying correctly. This website has been live for a long time and had no problems, but while updating some wording/punctuation on the development (before rolling it into live), I am seeing that my characters are failing. We recently bought CF Builder 2 and I believe this to be the problem, as I had something similar happen like this - but with an email blast - a while ago (I ended up having another worker develop the code on his PC with a different program).
I have googled this and have ensured the following settings are correct:
window-->preferences-->workspace--->text-file encoding: UTF-8
project-->properties-->general-->text-file encoding: UTF-8
I've also tried putting
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=UTF-8" >
at the top of my pages and they still display incorrect characters when french accents are used.
Any ideas?

8859-1 PDF does not show french characters.

I am stuck in this issue for 2 days now and finally i decided to post it here.
I have created a custom oracle report(10G) with BI to open in PDF. The XML prolog Value is defined as <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-15"?>
Now when i run the report in R12 the pdf file shows junk character for french characters(É shown as "%o"). These characters are displayed properly if i look at the XML file. When we run that output from the server we get the weird characters but if we take the same output (XML) file and run it locally using desktop publisher the PDF document shows the French characters
I check the nls_characterset and it is defined as AL32UTF8(which supports french)
I read some articles they advise to copy fonts from *$FND_TOP/resource* to *$OA_JRE_TOP* and *$AF_JRE_TOP(lib/fonts)* , but it does no work.
Also, one of the article says to add files in $JAVA_HOME. But i was not able to find JAVA_HOME and the dba says we have $JAVA_TOP and we are not suppose to change anything here.
we are using EBS R12.1.3
oracle reports : 10.1.2.0.2

French characters in run time parameter values doesn't show up in emails

We have a custom workflow with configurations to send email when a request is assigned to a person and also to send email on request rejections.
We are encountering following issues with respect to French characters that are available in the message body and message subject.
Issue 1:Notifications are configured in Human Task (ApprovalTask.task) when a task is assigned. Since the message body contains French characters we have used ISO-8859-1 encodings to render the message properly to the user. The message body also has some run time content from the task payload.
For e.g. À titre de responsable fonctionnel, une demande d''approbation pour un accès informatique vous est assignée.
Accès informatique demandé : <%/task:task/task:payload/ns1:ObjectDetails/ns1:name%>
In this case all static text values are rendered properly to the end user in his email. However the French characters in run time parameter values doesn't show up properly and has some weird characters.
Issue 2: Unable to change the default subject shown in the approval task emails i.e. Notifications are configured in Human Task (ApprovalTask.task) when a task is assigned. By default it shows Action Required: Approval. How can this default value be changed?
Issue 3: We have an Email Activity in Bpel process that follows a task rejection. The emailpayload is ISO-8859-1 encoded and works for the message body. However the email subject shows up with ISO-8859-1 encodings itself and doesn't convert to proper string in the end user's email. Is there any specific setting required for french characters in subject?

Please note, when I use a fix value to parameter is working fine, for example:

To me is very curious that I can't enter a value in the DataPreview in Hana Studio, because is not requested, even when the input parameter have been set as mandatory

Problems with French Characters in Page Title

Here is the problem
When using Duplicate Page and trying to set page titles with french characters (or other non standard characters for that matter such as qoutes) The resulting output does not display correctly.
I thought a work around would be to us the HTML escape codes in the title dialog when creating the page however it appears that Incontext then goes and attemps to escape the ampersand part of the escape code during save.
so for instance when trying to set a page title such as Whistler Live! prépare la scène using the following escaped version
Whistler Live! prépare la scène
The resulting HTML saved from incontext looks like this
Whistler Live! pr&eacute;pare la sc&egrave;ne
and the title does not display correctly.
Incontext sees the & which is page of the HTML escape code and they automatically replaces that with &

I am able to enter the characters in the dialog box but during the save they are altered
I created a basic test page with nothing but the following code

saved it as test-characters.cfm (coldfusion page) and tested it out
problem was still there however when I save the page as a .html file and test it out the problem is no longer present
So the problem seems to only occur when using .cfm pages (even if there is no cf code on them)

I just now re-installed Arch because I switched hard-drives (to an SSD) and everything seems to be working again, apart from one thing:
urxvt doesn't display Japanese Characters, just questionmarks instead when using ls and garbage characters otherwise.
I literally copied and pasted my ~/.Xresources from my old install, so I'm not quite sure what went wrong.

Edit: I just realized that urxvt seems to completely ignore the fonts line - I had that problem once before, when I used the AMD Catalyst driver and not the open source one.
I now have an Nvidia card and started using the propietary driver - maybe that has something to do with it?

Displaying french accents

Hi,
I'm currently building a site and it needs to be in French
and English. The site contains descriptions and details about
products and I would like to load them from text files so that the
descriptions can be modified without having to edit the movie file.
I currently have no problem loading the txt file into a dynamic
text field, but if the txt contains French Characters (aka é
è à ù ç etc...) they will be displayed as
square boxes. I've tried embedding them in the text field but that
only makes the square boxes that are usually there disappear,
leaving only spaces.
The font I am using is Franklin Gothic Demi Cond, and if I
create a static text box and just type in regular text the French
characters show up fine. I tried to make a text box using _sans but
I get the same behavior when trying to load from a file.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be
or what I can try to get around that?

French Characters in File Names

Hello,
Despite my instance not use French and/or other special
characters in files names, we have inherited a project (approx 2500
topics) with French characters in the file name. When we generated
the project and post it on an Apache server, the topics do not
display as the server replaces the characters with symbols.
RX5, during the generation process, replaced the French
characters with underscores, RX 7.0.1 keeps the characters within
the file name. In RX 7.0.1 is it possible to replace the characters
with underscores during the generation process?

Problem with French characters with updateContent

I have this problem with Spry, (had it also with YUI a few
months ago) with special french characters
(éèçàù). I use encoding UTF-8, but
iso-8859-1 isn't working either. I put some examples here:

As long as it is static content, no problem. But when I get
content from a recordset from an Access database: trouble.
In IE7 the french characters are even worse, and I get the

I think I found a solution. I found a few resources on the
internet that said: xmlhttprequest always sends data as utf-8 by
default. So when all the other pages use iso-8859-1, there's a
problem. It can be solved this way: when retrieving recordset
fields from ASP I use
HTMLEncoding like this:
<%=Server.HTMLEncode(RSevents.Fields.Item("event_location").Value)%>.
I have to do this for each field in the page, what means some extra
work.
For PHP it should be done with
htmlentities
If anyone has a solution without using the Server.HTMLEncode

JS Display international characters

I've recently posted a script that makes a font catalogue. One of the comments I got was if it could display international characters Russian for example. Would anyone have any suggestion as to how I might go about this? I've got a couple of changes I need to make to the script and it would be good to include this request as well.

Although your working sample displays three different scripts (Latin; Greek; Cyrillic), it's of No Importance At All. It's the different languages that count.
So for French and Italian, you would add:

You appear to think your myLetters variable ought to hold the allowable set of characters per language. Well ... no. Translating something does not (ever, if I'm correct) amount to transposing each character into another.
Take, for example, the Greek word for Greece. The alternative English name Hellas comes from Ελλάδα, but if you would somehow translate it one character at a time, you get "Ellada".
You should think of myLetters as a message instead. Suppose your script may display an alert
alert ("Bad input. You'll have to start all over again!");
then you can make a list for this message alone:

I am using Oracle 8i with Language settings as AMERICA.

It could be possible to display Chinese characters using SQL Developer without any specific NLS_LANG setting because SQL Developer is using JDBC which doesn't use NLS_LANG setting according to When is NLS_LANG used ?.
For example, I'm able to display the following Chinese character in SQL Developer 1.2.0 on Windows XP Pro with French Windows setting and NLS_LANG set in Windows registry to FRENCH_FRANCE.WE8ISO8859P1.

Display Chinese Characters

What needs to be done to make PRS-950 display Chinese characters in MS Word format? Please help!

The Reader can display text written in English fonts and other Latin-based languages such as Spanish, French and German, however it cannot display Chinese characters on text based files. The Reader does support PDF documents in other languages however, so Chinese PDF files should display fine.
