Error on backup database is closed
please! help me
I have an error when I do a backup from EM
I use oracle 11g is installed on Solaris 10, if I come in remotely and directly use RMAN / target with these commands
backup device type disk tag '% TAG' database;
backup device type disk tag '% TAG' archivelog all not backed up delete all input;
does my backup, but with EM (generates the scrip with the same commands) gives the following error
"Unable to perform the backup because the database is closed."
the db is open and i try to change credentials and nothing
tnx!
This is not an Oracle Secure Backup specific query. You'll get more assistance by posting this in the correct EM/RMAN forum.
Thanks

Errors during backup of MSSQL 2005 using DB13
Hi,
I have an ECC 5.0 system, and when I try to perform any kind of backup of a MSSQL 2005 database using DB13 I get an error like this:

The strange thing is that if I create a new backup device in MS SQL Server Management Studio, and assign a backup job to use this backup device, the backup is successfull... but only the first time I schedule the backup. Following backup attempts to same device fails with the error message above.
Any ideas, anyone?

ThomasHi Kan,
So your suggestion is that I should run a backup with the format media option selected? I believe I have tried that, but I will nevertheless give it another go.
Will keep this thread open in the mean time.

DBAYou got no responses because you posted in the wrong forum
Are you backing up to a tape or disk device? This error usually points to a media problem (not a DB problem). Can you backup the DB to disk and see if it works?

Error in recovery after BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG
Hi,
With Oracle 9.2.0.6 on Unix Aix 5, I made:
rman ...
RUN
ALLOCATE CHANNEL disk1 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/base/tempora/%U';
BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG;
Copy files from /base/tempora/% to another server in a directory with the same name.

Original base seems to works fine (can be stoped and restarted).
I thought that this BACKUP DATABASE PLUS ARCHIVELOG would contain in itself all the data needed to restart the database. Database has been stopped and restarted last week with no problem and I regularly do full backup with RMAN and TSM (we are testing now backups without TSM for a spacial case).
Has someone an idea of what's wrong?
ThanksHi,
Thanks for taking care of my problem.
When I try to do a set until sequence..., the RESTORE CONTROLFILE fails, telling it has nothing to restore. I think this is the same kind of problem I encounter with the full restore.
Aniway, the restore being good, i try to finish the recover and it fails, asking for a very old archive. Is it possible a transaction to be active after so much time?
In fact, I just decovered a file is in RECOVER status. I did an :
alter database datafile '...' offline drop;
since that, the recover is ok, from oracle (not rman):
recover database using backup controlfile until cancel;
Thanks again to everyone.

Hi,
I'm having a serious issue with your brend new Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) and i would appreciate if someone could give me good answers.
After a background backup task failure, the database was entirelly corrupted and the oracle server no longuer wanted to start. And because of that the NCS web server is unusable, since no one can log in.
We tryed to restore to last known backup obtained after a former suucessful backup. But we get this error:
"ERROR: invalid backup file version. Exception: Error while unzipping invalid wcs 7.x export file"
All the lost data was previously migrated from the former WCS 7.x server. Before this issue everything was working fine.
So we think that the appliance is seeing the backup file from NCS as a WCS backup.
We need to find rapidly a solution. Here is our configuration:
We formerly had WCS 7.0.172.0 hosted on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 with the above caracteristics:
Intel(R)Xeon(R) CPU 5120 @ 1.86Ghz 1.87Ghz 16GB of RAM.
We now have NCS Version 1.1.1.24 running under Cisco Application Deployment Engine
OS Release: 2.0
ADE-OS Build Version: 2.0.1.038
ADE-OS System Architecture: x86_64I was getting this error too. TL;DR: When you transfer the wcs.zip file to your FTP server, make sure you are using BINARY mode... which is often NOT the default FTP mode.
Long Version:
TO GET THIS ERROR, what I had done was use the Windows CLI FTP command to transfer my "wcs.zip" to the NCS FTP server.
-----BEGIN WRONG STEPS-----
C:\ftp
ftp> open x.x.x.x
Connected to x.x.x.x.
220 Service ready for new user
User (x.x.x.x:(none)): ftp-user
331 User name okay, need password for ftp-user
Password:
230 User logged in, proceed
ftp> put wcs.zip
200 Command PORT okay
150 File status okay; about to open data connection
226 Closing data connection
ftp: 526768949 bytes sent blah blah etc
-----END WRONG STEPS-----
I would then run "ncs stop" and "ncs migrate" and get the "ERROR: invalid backup file version. Exception: Error while unzipping invalid wcs 7.x export file".
I remembered something from my misspent youth: Windows, for no good reason, likes to transfer files in ASCII mode. UNIX (which LINUX comes from) prefers BINARY, and the two do not like to negotiate.
TO FIX THIS, I had to just FTP in Binary mode.
-----BEGIN RIGHT STEPS-----
C:\ftp
ftp> open x.x.x.x
Connected to x.x.x.x.
220 Service ready for new user
User (x.x.x.x:(none)): ftp-user
331 User name okay, need password for ftp-user
Password:
230 User logged in, proceed
ftp> binary
200 Command TYPE okay
ftp> put wcs.zip
200 Command PORT okay
150 File status okay; about to open data connection
226 Closing data connection
ftp: 526768949 bytes sent blah blah etc
-----END RIGHT STEPS-----
NOW when I enter "ncs stop" (actually... had to restart them... then stop them... x.x) and then the proper "ncs migrate" commands, I get a happy output and don't have to go home late troubleshooting this.

-- complete.
Stage 3 of 5: Restoring Data ...
I hope this helps anyone banging their head against the WCS->PI1.3 install wall.
(Note, WCS needs to be migrated to NCS 1.1.1.24 (NOT NCS 1.1.3!!!!!) before you can migrate to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 or 1.3, because for no readily apparent reason the "ncs migrate" command was removed from PI 1.2 and up. Also note, there is no "Prime Infrastructure 1.1;" they just renamed NCS to Prime Infrastructure after NCS 1.1 because. Yes, the sentence ends there. Great products, all 3, just... agonizing to migrate.) -

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, my bad. I inadvertently copied wrong [name] form the msdb.dbo.backupset. On 3/13 and 3/14, the two file names did not match. In trying to select another example to show you this morning, I found that the names are now matching!
What I was doing was to create dynamic t-sql to retrieve the latest prod backup of the database, and then restore it with move to the development server. This is an ad-hoc job that the developers can run by themselves whenever they require a refresh. Unfortunately,
we only keep 3 days worth of backups for these databases, so the original disk file I was trying to use to restore no longer exists. Researching the original error, one of the error descriptions was that the restore could not find the file requested.
I thought this very strange since I get the file name directly from the backupset table. Further research did indeed show that the file names were different, but unfortunately, I failed to save the details of the file names. Anyway, in looking for a new example
to show you this morning, I have found that the file names are indeed matching exactly again. If this error pops up again, I will be sure to save all details and re-post.
Thanks, regards and best wishes to you and yours, -

I altered it in archivelog mode.
Now I can run a backup database command from rman? What does it cost to try it and see? What would be the worst thing that could possibly happen? An error message saying you can't do that?
And please note, this forum is not a chat line. Operators are NOT standing by. Posting a new message every two minutes to give an update on the fact that the database hasn't shut down yet is not necessary and not productive.
If there are a lot of pending transactions when you issue SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE, they will all have to be rolled back as part of the shutdown. That can take some time. And if you bypass that with SHUTDOWN ABORT, they will have to be rolled back as part of instance crash recovery on the next startup, which will also take some time. Five minutes may feel like an eternity when you are sitting there waiting for your command to complete, but is no reason to panic. -

"There was an error opening the database for the library "~/Pictures/Apert"
Hey everyone,
There's already another discussion thread about this at the link below, but the problem was never actually resolved. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2343014&tstart=0&messageID=116 67261#11667261
So I stumbled across this problem where Aperture 3 will display the following error when opening the image library.
There was an error opening the database for the library “~[path]/Aperture Library.aplibrary”.
One user suggested navigating to the actual library, and ⌘⌥-clicking the library to open it with the Aperture Library First Aid dialog. This however, did not work for me. I still received the error messages upon ⌘⌥-clicking the library.
Here's a little hack I discovered for those of you still struggling. It doesn't fix the problem (leaves quite a large dent remaining actually), but hopefully someone can cultivate what little I discovered.
⌥-click Aperture (not the library)
You should get to the library selection dialog box. Create a new library (bottom right corner) and remember the location of the new library. Put a few random pictures in the new one.
Close Aperture
⌃-click both the old and new libraries and "Show Package Contents."
Open the folder "Database" in both libraries.
Cross check the folders to see if the old library is missing files that are in the new library. If your old library is missing some files (mine was), drag the missing files from the new library to the old one.
Close both folders.
⌘⌥-click the old library.
NOW, I got the Aperture Library First Aid dialog.
Rebuild the library (3rd option)
Wait a while.
Aperture should open up with a folder named "Recovered Folder." Within this folder will be a SINGLE project named "Recovered Project" with ALL the images from your old library. There may be a few albums there too, but mine were all empty so it didn't matter in my case. To my knowledge, I lost all the adjustments I performed too.
This is as far as I got. I have much of my library backed up, so I only needed to copy the most recent photos into the backup. I am NOT reorganizing and re-editing pictures in this one!
As Aperture is a photo-organizing and photo-editing software, I understand that this by no means fixes the problem, since you lose all organization and editing. But it enables one to at least view the images lost. Hopefully a more knowledgable hacker else can figure out how to fix this completely. Unfortunately, I simply don't have the time to continue messing with this.
Good luck to anyone else having issues! I understand the frustration you must be facing, its freaky having years worth of images simply disappear! After this incident, I'm definitely going to configure Time Machine to perform more frequent backups, since my latest backup was already a couple weeks old.Hey All,
To my horror I have a similar problem and your solution didn't seem to help. To be specific, I get the error:
"There was an error opening the database for the library “~/Pictures/Aperture Library_2.aplibrary" Everytime I try to run Aperture. This happened because my Apple computer shut off completely (due to bad battery) while importing photos from a memory card.
I've tried "option + command" while clicking the aperture application and that gave me the same error message without any other option except to quit the program. I tried "option + command" and clicked the library package but that didn't work either. I tried creating a new aperture library, opening it which I did successfully, and then switching to my main one but that didn't work.
Does anyone know away to get it to work again and have the edits still there?
I'm a professional photographer and have thousands of photos or so in the library so this is distressing. The master files for the photos are located on an external hard drive, but I'm not sure how to access them in aperture. Are all the edits on the photographs are in the external hard drive or the aperture library. Is there any other way to resolve this issue without losing the edits?
Does apple have a support number I can call? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! -

Dear all.
I've been getting a problem with a scheduled backup job through OEM since yesterday which I'm not able to find out why as it was working fine. When I access OEM I can see that I have a problem execution and when I investigate why it says "Unable to perform the backup because the database is closed". OLAP Error:The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occure
We have recently installed BPC 51 (SP2). This been working fine for months until yesterday. Now we are getting errors on OLAP Database. Following is the problem description. Any help would be appreciated.
Received error "The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a send." while processing dimension. This message appears during 'Create Dimension' sub step( step 2/5). After this BPC server crashes.
The same error appears while deleting appset during 'Delete OLAP Database' sub step (step 2/4). We are also not able to restore an appset since the process hangs during OLAP Database stage.
Software version: BPC Version 5.0.102 SP2
MS SQL Server 2005
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 9.00.3042.00
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 2005.090.3042.00
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2000.086.3959.00 (srv03_sp2_rtm.070216-1710)
Microsoft MSXML 2.6 3.0 4.0 5.0 6.0
Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.3790.3959
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.50727.1433
Operating System 5.2.3790
ThanksYes we did that several time, but did not solve the problem.
Finally, we processed all the dimensions, applications, appsets within SQL server studio and the problem is resolved. I am not sure if this would surface again.
Thanks
