Error ora-02070

Hi to all,
I have created a view in oracle 10g using an MS SQL 2005 table, like this:
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW EXTRACT_VIEW
(D_FLD1, D_NOTES, D_CODE, D_DATE, D_FLAG)
AS
SELECT
D_FLD1,
D_NOTES,
LPAD(TO_CHAR(D_CODE), 6, '0'),
SUBSTR(D_DATE, 7,2) || '/' || SUBSTR(D_DATE, 5, 2) || '/' || SUBSTR(D_DATE, 1, 4),
D_FLAG
FROM sqltable@dblink
WHERE (D_FLD1 = '2007') AND (D_FLAG = 1)
In the MS SQL Table the field are declared:
D_FLD1 nvarchar(4)
D_NOTES text
D_CODE int
D_DATE nvarchar(8)
D_FLAG bit
When the view run, this message is displayed:
ORA-02070: database stringstring does not support string in this context
Cause: The remote database does not support the named capability in the context in which it is used.
Action: Simplify the SQL statement.
If I modify my view, eliminating the field D_NOTES, all work fine.
Can You help me in order to resolve this problem ?
Thank You and Best regards.

I'm not sure if you are using HSODBC or TG4mSQL but I assume it is HSODBC.
The problem here is the function LPAD combined with the LONG column being used in the select. HSODBC does not support it thus post processing will occure. Post processing means all records from the remote database are fetched into the Oracle db and the statement is then processed locally.
Best would be to create a view at the SQL Server side with the functions you need and then select from the SQL Server view instead of the table directly.
The big advantage is that only the results are fetched and not ALL records like it happens during post processing.

  • ORA-02070: Error when updating an informix table through orcl view using HS

    Hello!
    I faced the following problem:
I have a table in informix, and i want to reach this table through Oracle infromix gateway (Heterogenous Services). I succeeded to set up the gateway, and I created an Oracle view for my table in informix. It is working fine, I can query and modify data, except the following case: If I run the query (from SQL Developer) "UPDATE oracle_view SET float_field = '1.1' WHERE record_id = 1 AND float_field = '1.2'", I receive the following error:
"SQL Error: ORA-02070: database database_link does not support TO_NUMBER in this context.
*Cause: The remote database does not support the named capability in the context in which it is used.
    *Action: Simplify the SQL statement."
If I modify the query as "UPDATE oracle_view SET float_field = '1.1' WHERE record_id = 1", it is running without any error messages. I found, that to_number is not supported by Oracle HS gateway, but I do not use explicitly the to_number Oracle function! But I must use the above version, because of concurrent users.
Does anybody have an idea how I could get rid of the implicit call of to_number?
    Thanks, Gyula

    user11229789 wrote:
Yes, float_field is a numeric-type field, which is a 8-byte FLOAT in informix. This field gets automatically FLOAT datatype in the Oracle view, and can not be modified. record_id is some integer unique id field.Well, as the float_field is numeric it makes sense that the SQL issued from Oracle treats it as numeric, so leaving out the quotes can only be the correct thing to do. If you introduce quotes then you are providing strings and the HS is having to do a convertion to numeric (hence where the TO_NUMBER would have been coming into the initial issue.
    If I try the update query without '-s you suggested, like this: "UPDATE oracle_view SET float_field = 1.1 WHERE record_id = 1 AND float_field = 1.2" , i receive the following error message:
SQL Error: ORA-28534: "Heterogeneous Services preprocessing error"
*Cause:    One of the things that the Heterogeneous Services can do is
to preprocess parts of SQL statements that contain implicit
coercions or calls to explicit coercion functions like TO_CHAR
TO_NUMBER or TO_DATE. For example, it could convert a call to
    TO_DATE to a bind variable, pre-evaluate the TO_DATE function
call and pass the resulting value to the non-Oracle system as
the bind value. This behavior is controlled by some coercion
related capabilities. If the capabilities are set incorrectly,
the HS could encounter errors when it attempts to do the
preprocessing. If it does then this error will be signaled.
*Action:   The capability table settings are controlled by the agent
vendor and can be modified by the DBA. Contact your DBA and
agent vendor and get the correct set of capabilities installed.I can't see why the HS would be trying to do any coercion of anything except to perhaps convert the parts of the where clause to bind variables and pass the actual values in. Does it work ok without the "AND float_field = 1.2" ? If so, I'm guessing there's some configuration issue of the HS required to get it to deal with the floats.... perhaps in the capability settings as the error message "action" indicates.

  • ORA-02070: Error when updating a SQL Server table thru an Oracle View

I have a SQL Server table TIMESHEET which contains a number of VARCHAR and NUMERIC columns plus a DATETIME column.
Only the DATETIME column is giving me trouble.
On the ORACLE side I have a view which selects from the SQL Server table but in order to get the SELECT to work, I had to either put a CAST or TO_DATE function call around the DATETIME field
Below is the relevant part of the 2 view definitions I have tried
    create view TIMESHEET as
    SELECT
    "TsKeySeq" as TS_KEY_SEQ,
    "EmployeeNo" as EMPLOYEE_NO,
    CAST("PeriodEnding" AS DATE) as PERIOD_ENDING,
    . . . (more columns - not relevant)
    FROM [email protected];
An update to the view generates this message
ORA-02070: database OLEMSQLPSANTDAS6 does not support CAST in this context
    create view TIMESHEET as
    SELECT
    "TsKeySeq" as TS_KEY_SEQ,
    "EmployeeNo" as EMPLOYEE_NO,
    TO_DATE("PeriodEnding") as PERIOD_ENDING,
    . . . (more columns - not relevant)
    FROM [email protected];
An update to the view generates this message
ORA-02070: database OLEMSQLPSANTDAS6 does not support TO_DATE in this context
If I don't include either the TO_DATE() or CAST() then I get
Select Error: ORA-28527: Heterogeneous Services datatype mapping error
    ORA-02063:preceding line from OLEMSQLSANTDAS6
Does anyone have any idea how to update a SQL Server DATETIME column thru an ORACLE view?

You can't cast accross heterogenious databases and there is no need to. HSODBC treats SQL Server DATETIME column as DATE. For example, I have SQL Server table:
    CREATE TABLE [Ops].[T_JobType](
         [JobType] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
         [JobDesc] [varchar](200) NULL,
[InsertDt] [datetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [InsertDt_00000006]  DEFAULT (getdate()),
[InsertBy] [varchar](128) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [InsertBy_00000006]  DEFAULT (user_name()),
[LastUpdated] [datetime] NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [LastUpdated_00000006]  DEFAULT (getdate()),
[LastUpdatedBy] [varchar](128) NOT NULL CONSTRAINT [LastUpdatedBy_00000006]  DEFAULT (user_name()),
    CONSTRAINT [T_JobType_PK] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
         [JobType] ASC
    )WITH (PAD_INDEX  = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE  = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS  = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS  = ON, FILLFACTOR = 100) ON [DATA01FG]
) ON [DATA01FG]Now on Oracle side I do:
    SQL> desc "Ops"."T_JobType"@pbods
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    JobType                                   NOT NULL VARCHAR2(50)
    JobDesc                                            VARCHAR2(200)
    InsertDt                                  NOT NULL DATE
    InsertBy                                  NOT NULL VARCHAR2(128)
    LastUpdated                               NOT NULL DATE
    LastUpdatedBy                             NOT NULL VARCHAR2(128)
    SQL> select "InsertDt" from "Ops"."T_JobType"@pbods;

  • Migration from 9i to 11g Transparent Gateway results in a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch b) ORA-02070: database ... does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context

Migration from 9i to 11g Transparent Gateway results in a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch b) ORA-02070: database ... does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
What Transparent Gateway (TG) 11g configuration steps prevent the following errors?:
    a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
    b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
    Hints:
The current 9i TG works with the existing views and packages.  These same db objects will not compile using the new 11g TG.
The db objects are on an Oracle 10g database linked to an SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
Since the 9i TG works I assume a configuration to the 11g TG will get it working same as before.  But what...
Is is something controlled by these parameters?  (Sorry, I don't know how this stuff works.  I'm the application developer.  My DBAs setup the Transparent Gateways.):
Parameters in the Gateway Startup Shell script:
        ORA_NLS33
        NLS_LANG
      Parameters in the initsid.ora file:
        HS_LANGUAGE
        HS_NLS_DATE_FORMAT
        HS_NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE
I'm avoiding the known workaround to refactor the VIEWS and PACKAGES to contain CAST() statements to explicitly match the data types.  A server side fix to the 11g TG is preferred.
    Sample code:
    a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
... is caused by SQL that works with my 9i TG but not with my 11g TG.  It's a snippit from my view that won't compile:
                      select status_code                  -- Oracle VARCHAR2(30)
                      from   ora_app_interfaces
                     UNION
select "StatusCode" as status_code  -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
                      from   SqlAppInterfaces
       Example workaround that I'm avoiding:
                      select status_code
                      from   ora_app_interfaces
                     UNION
                      select CAST("StatusCode" as VARCHAR(30)) as status_code
                      from   SqlAppInterfaces
    b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
A line of code in the procedure that compiles correctly but fails to execute:
-- Insert into SQL Server from Oracle
               insert into PatientMedRecNum (
                  "PatID",         -- SQL Server INT
                  "MedRecNum",     -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(11)
                  "Hospital")      -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
               values (
                  pi_pat_id,       -- Oracle NUMBER
                  pi_med_rec_num,  -- Oracle VARCHAR2
                  pi_hospital);    -- Oracle VARCHAR2
I'd guess the errors are caused by the TG's implicit conversion between the Oracle VARCHAR2 and the SQL Server NVARCHAR... but this works fine on the 9i TG... how do I set it up to work on the 11g TG?
    Thanks!

Trace of 11g TG... generating errors due to lack of automatic mapping from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle NVARCHAR, where the previous 9g TG mapped from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle VARCHAR2.

  • ORA-02070 database does not support semi join in this context

The following merge sql on Oracle 11g throws "ORA-02070 database does not support semi join in this context".
    MERGE INTO ORDERS tgt
    USING
    SELECT C.short_name, C.customer_id
    FROM customers C
    WHERE customer_id IN ( SELECT distinct customer id FROM orders O WHERE O.order_date > SYSDATE - 3 )
    )src
    ON ( tgt.customer_id=src.customer_id )
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
    UPDATE SET tgt.short_name=src.short_name;
Any ideas? This piece of code was working on an earlier version of Oracle 11g.
    Thanks,
    Anu

    Hi, Anu,
    You can try this:
    MERGE INTO ORDERS     tgt
    USING
            SELECT  C.short_name, C.customer_id
         FROM      customers C
    )                src
    ON (     tgt.customer_id = src.customer_id
       AND     tgt.order_date     > SYSDATE - 3
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
         UPDATE  SET     tgt.short_name = src.short_name; It's surprising that the error message mentioned a semi-join, because you weren't doing a semi-join. An example of a semi-join is:
    MERGE INTO ORDERS     tgt
    USING
            SELECT DISTINCT
                   C.short_name, C.customer_id
         FROM        customers C
         JOIN       orders    o     ON  c.customer_id  = o.customer_id
         WHERE       o.order_date     > SYSDATE - 3
    )                src
    ON (tgt.customer_id = src.customer_id)
    WHEN MATCHED THEN
         UPDATE  SET     tgt.short_name = src.short_name; but perhaps the optimizer re-wrote your IN sub-query as a semi-join.
An EXISTS sub-query is another way to get the results you want, unless it causes ORA-02070, also. Natrually, I can't test anythihng, since you didn't post any sample data.

For #5, not Windows, ConfigMgr 2012 R2. Anything before ConfigMgr 2012 R2 is not supported for the 8.1 ADK.
For the permissions, what accounts are you setting this for. In general, if the share is on the same server, Everyone Full or Read on the Share and System Full or Read on the NTFS should work.
For the error message, it looks like you are trying to import an OS Image and not an OS Install Package. OS images use a WIM file and OS Install Packages use the entire set of source files from the media. For OS images, you must thus explicitly point it
    to a specific WIM file.

  • Error ORA-12560 prompts when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager

    Hi all,
I am a newbie to Oracle.
Just installed the Oracle 9i Database Enterprise Edition (9.0.1) into Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. Problem is encountered when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager Standalone mode using either system/oracle or scott/tiger as credentials. Error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" prompts.
I tried to check with some configuration and see whether the services are started. Services of "OracleOraHome90TNSListener" and "OracleServiceORCL" have been started and the database exists in the dedicated directory. Environment variables of "ORACLE_HOME" and "ORACLE_SID" have been added manually as the SID is set to orcl, which I just follow what the instruction manual has stated. Moreover, I can't get access using command prompt typing "svrmgrl"; error returned stating " 'svrmgrl' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Another information is that there is no domain set in my server. Just a server with a name being assigned in a workgroup.
Hence, would you mind please advice me what to do in order to get access into the Enterprise Manager? It's quite an urgent task.
    A million thx in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Karen

    Hi Jigneshrp,
    Thanks for your reply.
It is checked that the listener is running and TNS name service exists. Following your advice, I did create a new listener and another name service and use them, but the same error turns out when trying to log in to the Enterprise Manager again.
Additional information to take note for is that while reconfiguring the existing listener or creating a new listener, a mesage prompts stating "The information provided for this listener is currently in use by other software on this computer. You can proceed with the configuration as it is, but it will not be possible to start this listener until the conflict is resolved. Would you like to continue with the continue with the configuration anyway? Yes/No".
As for the reconfiguration or the new creation of TNS names service, when I am trying to test for the connection, the results in the details pane states that "Connecting... ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error. The test did not succeed...."
Would you mind pls advice me on these?
Furthermore, there exist 2 questions I am wondering is that it is stated in the instruction manual that prior to the installation, a static IP should be specified for it instead of the DHCP one; hence, I wanna ask after the complete insallation, is it that the server should be running in the network, i.e. allow it to get connected with the outside network?
2nd question is that can Oracle 9i Database Server Standard Edition (9.0.1) be installed under a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and just a Window XP Professional?
    Thanks for your reply.
    Best Regards,
    Karen

  • Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12154

    Hello,
I try to install php 5.1.2 on a WIN2003 server and IIS6 with the OCi8 extension without success from several days.
On my server I've a 920 oracle client and the 10.1 instant client, I copy the tnsnames.ora in the instant client's directory.
I've declare many environnement variables :
    - NLS_LANG : AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
    - TNS_ADMIN : E:\...\oracle\instantclient_10_1
    - ORA_NLS33 : E:\..\oracle\920\ocommon\nls\ADMIN\DATA
With the php command line the oci_connect function correctly works : the php command line use the instant client's tnsnames.ora. I can query with success my database.
When I try to load a web php script (the same as the php command line script) I have the following error " Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12154" ( oci_connect( $user , $pass, $sid ) . The $sid variable have the value of an alias declared in the tnsnames.ora.
If I replace the sid's alias by something like this " (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=xx.xx.xx.xx)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=xx)" in the oci_connect function, I have another error : Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-12705.
A web page with the phpinfo function displays the following messages about oci8 extension : It seems to be correct.
    oci8
    OCI8 Support enabled
    Revision $Revision: 1.269.2.8 $
    Active Persistent Connections 0
    Active Connections 0
    Temporary Lob support enabled
    Collections support enabled
Do you have any idea ? Thanks a lot

The web server is not seeing the Oracle environment correctly. You need to set PATH to the instant client libraries. ORA_NLS33 is not used for Oracle 10g clients. Perhaps you have some library conflict with two versions of Oracle on the machine?

  • Import Export Error (ORA-06502)

    All,
We are trying to migrate the code from windows 2000 HTMLDB 1.5.0.00.33 to solaris 9 HTMLDB 1.5.0.00.33 by using the export/import function. After migration, one report went wrong with the following message.
    report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
The tables definition are identical and there's no data in the production table. When we try to reduce the query length from 3000 to 2500 characters, the error message disappears on production.
Is there any HTMLDB global variable controls the maximum length of the report "region source"?
    Any response would be appreciate.
    Thanks,
    Tony

    Scott,
Thanks for the response. We've applied HTMLDB version 1.5.1.00.12 on both develop and production servers yesterday but the ORA-06502 error still persist. We've also tried to use package and "pl/sql return sql" instead of a long sql query but received the same result.
The solaris instance is using "Western European ISO-8859-1" as the file character set and the windows is using "Western European Windows 1252". Is there any easy way to change the DAD character set on the production box?
    Thanks,
    Tony

  • Report error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string b

I have a form which uses a customer form/report, drop downs etc..
the debug shows it running this statement
    ...Execute Statement: begin begin SELECT distinct initcap(RTRIM (LTRIM (e.surname, ' *0123456789-/:.?,'), ' *0123456789-/:.?,') || ', ' || RTRIM (LTRIM (e.first_name, ' *0123456789-/:.?,'), ' *0123456789-/:.?,' )) empname, e.ID bulk collect into wwv_flow_utilities.g_display,wwv_flow_utilities.g_value FROM dms.dms_employees@dmsprd e, dms.dms_employee_contracts@dmsprd ec WHERE e.ID = ec.emp_id and e.surname like '%%' AND :p75_date BETWEEN ec.start_date AND NVL (ec.end_date, :p75_date) AND e.brh_id = 3654 ORDER BY 1; end; end;
    Then says
"report error: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small"
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

A select list is limited in size. I am not sure what the limit is but that is definitelly the case. The maximum size for the HTML generated for a select list is 32K.
86 options sounds on the low side to be hitting that limit, but there are other concerns to this as well. Scrolling through hundreds/thousands of options in a select list is a pain for users, and huge select lists produce bloated pages that impact load times and network bandwidth. That list of around 200 countries you find on many sites is about the sensible maximum length for a select list.
    You should use popups.Indeed.

  • Report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number

The oracle application express environment is created by installing the HTTP Server on the windows server and the application express 3.2.1 components on the 11.1.0.7 oracle database on UNIX. The installation is successfully and have not seen any issues during the installation. After completing all the steps, when tried to login and click the application builder or workspace components, I see the error message
report error:ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number.
This error message is seen on most of the pages when trying to accessed and not able to understand the reasons behind it. Its a brand new environment setup and not even presented to developers to test it.
Below error message is always seen when trying to access most of the components like application builder, schema comparison and some other tabs. Please advice

I think its better you use APEX 4.x version ratherthan using old version.
You will get more features and some bug fixes and also it's easy for you to get some help when you need.
