At execution if i say
java Expr 10 + 20 its working fine and give me 30 as output
But if i say
java Expr 10 * 20 [its not taking them as three arguments]
if i say
java Expr 10 "*" 20 [its working]
Please explain me why
thankas and regards

That is more an OS question, than a Java question. But, it's because * has meaning to the shell whereas the other symbols (at least at that point) do not.

  • Labview is using stale command line arguments

    I've created a vi to test passing command line arguments to Labview. I've attached it below. All it does is display the 1st and 2nd arguments. Also in VI Properties in the Execution category, it's set to 'Run when opened'.
    In the command prompt I'm entering: "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2014\LabVIEW.exe" "C:\Users\command_line_arguments.vi" -- a b
    This works - the vi launches, and displays a and b. However, if I run it again from the command prompt with  -- a c  as the arguments, it still displays a b. Only if I exit the vi, and quit LabVIEW (so that LabVIEW.exe stops running) then launch it again from the command line does it display a c.
    So for some reason Application:Command Line Arguments is using stale data, and ignoring the new arguments. Is this a bug, or am I using it in the wrong way? Thanks.

    That's normal behavior, the command line arguments are always the ones with which LabVIEW was first started. I think most single-instance applications work this way, although it's not something I've ever tested. Attempting to run LabVIEW again will just bring the already-running application to the front.

  • Getting Errors while using IMPDP command in UNIX

    Hi All,
    My work involves Refreshing of DB with latest Data. For this i am using IMPDP command to import the data. But Every time during refresh i will get errors saying like "oracle Generated Errors Oracle Not available".
    I don't know what is the reason for getting this error, and that too my db goes down after this error. Again i will startup the db , and i will try my luck to complete the process.
    so please tell me what are the actual problems that might cause the IMPDP to be failed.
    with one advise , i have stopped my listener and done the importing, Interestingly this time IMPDP works without errors. But this is also not always working.
    But i feel that every time starting and stopping the listener is not the correct solution.

  • Access Denied Error while using Cancel Command for an Administrator.

    Hi All,
    We have created a new capability called Task Administrator which has only one permission <Permission type='TaskInstance' rights='View'/>.
    Now when a user who is assigned ONLY this capability clicks a cancel button in the end user interface (<Property name='command' value='Cancel' />), an error is thrown (Error: List access denied to Subject on type WorkItem. com.waveset.ui.util.html.Container: method setSubTitle(LJava/lang.Object;)V not found.
    We understand that the system is trying to delete the workitem created (I can see the workitem from the debug menu) which he/she does not have access. Interestingly, a normal end user without any capabilities is able to cancel this request.
    Could someone please tell me what the default access is for an end user which is taken away when a new capability is added to that user?
    We are using V5 Sp4.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    Based on the current information, I suggest that you try the following steps:
    1. Run REGEDIT command to open the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{09beb4fe-6125-4757-af0f-7f487d1aa125}.
    2. Expand this node to see if there is a folder named “InprocServer32”, if there is, move to step 3.
    3. Click the “InprocServer32” folder, and double-click the “(Default)” key to check its value. It should be the path of a DLL file.
    4. Grant “Full control” to the users on this DLL file or its parent folder.
    If it doesn’t work, I suggest that you configure the Advanced Security Settings of the SQL Server installation folder, and check the “Replace child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object” option.

  • Command line arguments

    Hey there,
    I have a program that uses a command line argument at runtime to get a txt file which is then loaded into my program.
    c:\>java FileName infile.txt
    I want to catch what args[0] is so I can print the file name the user entered to the screen when the program is running(so grab the infile.txt). Does anyone know what object I use to do this? Have I made sense?
    Thanks
    Dave

    Yeah I didn't realise I could use args[] like a string
    (first time using args you see....)
    but in my print statement I put ("Reading " ++
    args[0]) ionstead of
    ("Reading " + args[0])
    amazing the smallest thing the greatest stress :)You're not using "args" like a string
    this code:
    class EchoArgs{
    public static void main(String[] args)
    //args is a String array.
    for(int j=0; j<args.length;j++)
        System.out.println("args["+j+"] is:"+args[j]);
    }Would simply echo each arg on its own line back...
    But either way...all args passed from the Command line ARE strings.
    (arg[0] is the first string of the string array, etc..)
    Good ,luck,
    Dave

    try checking relevant environment variables like the CLASSPATH.... a major source of failures in Windows is when in the classpath there is a path containing SPACES.... also enabling some "debug" or "verbose" flag (not sure how to do it) would provide more insight...

  • Error message: "invalid command line argument" while lodaing itunes

    I'm trying to load Itunes onto a computer that already has a version of itunes on it. I get a message that says "error: -1639 invalid command line argument" Does anyone know what this means? Does this mean I can't load itunes onto a computer that already has itunes on it?
    Also, I was able to load itunes on my laptop, but My ipod Icon is not appearing anywhere, not in itunes, not in explorer, not in my computer. I am, however, able to transfer music automatically when I plug the Ipod into the laptop. I have created several playlists and they have transferred over to the ipod as playlists. Any ideas why I can transfer despite not being recognized anywhere on the computer?
    Last thing is, I have plugged the Ipod into three different computers with itunes on them, and the ipod does not show up in the source list.
    I'm somewhat perplexed by all of this. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated

    hiya!
    "error: -1639 invalid command line argument"
    hmmm. folks typically only get that error if they are installing from removable media (such as a CD), although i have seen it happen if someone tries to install into the "recovery partition" of certain makes of PC.
    if you download and save an installer to your C drive and run the install from there, do you still get the 1639?

  • Read in file name + path using command line arguments

    Hi guys,
    I am trying to use command line arguments to read in the name of two files. The code below works as long as the files are on the class path.
    public class cmdLineArguments {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              String xmlFile1 = args[0];
                    String xmlFile2 = args[1];
              System.out.println ("\nXmlFile1: " + args[0] + "\nXmlFile2: " + args[1]);
    }I would like to be able to read files that are not on the class path as well by entering their full path along with their names.
    In other words, It works if I type:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\workspace\CmdLineArgs\src>java cmdLineArgs file1.xml file2.xmlbut not if I type:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user\workspace\CmdLineArgs\src>java cmdLineArgs c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file1.xml c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file2.xmlWould anyone please explain how I can edit the code to make it work? I guess I could take them both as a String, modify them manually (add a \ to it etc) but is there an easier way to do it? Even a reference to a tutorial, article etc about this would be very much appreciated.
    Also, any idea why a code would compile and run fine in Eclipse but would create an error from command line?
    Thanks a lot.

    You need to learn about cmd.exe which is used to process the command line. The arguments passed to any program is the command line split at white space so your command line arguments of
    c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file1.xml c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file2.xmlis turned into an array of
    "c:\Documents", "and", "Settings\user\desktop\file1.xml", "c:\Documents", "and", "Settings\user\desktop\file2.xml"In other words instead of 2 arguments you actually have 6.
    To get round this the file names need to be quoted
    java cmdLineArgs "c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file1.xml" "c:\Documents and Settings\user\desktop\file2.xml"

    Install stops at this point.
    SOMEONE HELP... My kid is chomping at the bit !
    Thanks.

    Ok I'll do some more searching but I found something in the community forums.
    APPSearch can not return this data into a property, so instead, for some unspeakable reason, returns a value of Null, follwed by another Null. This means that the property is created, and populated with two null characters. Bad news if the property also happens to be a PUBLIC property. All public properties are passed as part of the command line sent in a stream to the background installer process by the Execute Action. Since this stream now contains a double null value in a property, the stream is prematurely terminated. This creates an invalid command line, and thus the 1639 error.
    This user solved it by using the MSi Cleanup installer util.
    EDIT: A little more info...
    This problem is almost impossible to detect through the MSI log files since our friends at Microsoft chose to limit the length of any line in the log. It is impossible to get a dump of the full command line that generates this error.
    EDIT2:Note that error 1639 only ocurrs when the install package is run from removable media. When the package is run from local storage, the behavior is far more obtuse. The background install process, failing to receive a complete command line, is forced to run as if there had been no UI session, which in turn causes the APPSearch action to run again as if the install was running in silent mode. This causes re-evaluation of all properties a second time, destroying the feature selections made in the UI session, and also forcing the install to run under user credentials instead of elevated, even though AdminUser, ALLUSERS and Privleged properties are set. This is a very serious error that causes total failure of the installation.

    HI
      Pricing will be carried basing on the pricing
    procedure.
    Case1: Prices will be carried out automatically if
    necessary condition records are maintained for the
    condition type.
      For this you can go to Sales Order-> Item Conditions
    In the screen you can click on command button Analysis,
    which gives you the list of condition types associated
    to the pricing procedure. By clicking on the condition
    type you can know the action that has taken place.
    Case2: Manually forcing prices for Items.
      To do this, you have to populate ORDER_CONDITIONS_IN &
    ORDER_CONDITIONS_INX. Also note to identify the item
    numbers, you manually pass the item number for each item
    in the sales order, use the same item number for
    populating conditions.
      Parameters required:
    ORDER_CONDITIONS_IN:
      ITM_NUMBER, COND_TYPE, COND_VALUE, CURRENCY
    ORDER_CONDITIONS_INX:
      ITM_NUMBER, COND_TYPE, UPDATEFLAG, COND_VALUE,CURRENCY.
       Hope the above info helps you. Do revert back if you
    need more info.
    Kind Regards
    Eswar

  • Possible to use command line argument in project file?

    In my CI build process I would like to have a command line argument "customer" that should be used in the project file to include customer related files into the project like this:
    <Content Include="..\customers\%(customer)\*">
      <Link>%(RecursiveDir)%(FileName)%(Extension)</Link>
    </Content>
    Is that possible?

    Hi pkursawe,
    Try to use the Copy task, topy the custom files into the project, then add these files into the ItemGroup, check this blog post:
    How To: Recursively Copy Files Using the <Copy> Task
    The wildcard will help you to add related files into the project.
