Errors with variable declarations

Hi,
Is it possible that when I declare a variable using the scriplet tags:
<% String test; %>
That it is not being declared properly and I cannot use it later on in the page?
<% test="Hello"; %>
I keep getting error messages and they seem to be centered around some of my variables that have been declared with scriptlet tags.

Instead of
<% String test; %>
use
<%! String test; %>
Then test will be accessible throughout instead of just the service method.
If the problem persists just post your code & specify the exact error.

When I preview the theme in mapbuilder everything seems fine.
The problem arises, when I try to add a layer with this theme and style in my map in my APEX (version:4.2.6) application.

Hi,
You're setting XML data in a JSON model, that's why the binding is incorrect.
Depending on what your MII transaction is returning, you need to either retrieve the JSON part in the XML, or use a XML Model.

URGENT: problem with variable-declaration while precompiling

          Hi,
          i got a problem while precompiling my webapplication.
          i got some jsp-pages, each containing following code
          <%@ include file="/header.jsp" %>
          <% button = true; %>
          [...some code...]
          <%@ include file="/footer.jsp" %>
          The variable 'button' is defined in header.jsp and
          evaluated in footer.jsp. When i run through my application without precompiling
          it, there appear NO errors, but when i try to precompile my pages, the jsp-compiler
          reports an error in footer.jsp, because in footer.jsp is the 'button'-Variable
          used, but not defined and not included (because all other pages include footer.jsp)
          How can I tell the jsp-Compiler not to check for variable declarations, or what
          else can i do to work around this problem ?

The parser searches for the first occurrence of the root element at the first level. It then searches for the first occurrence of e1 at the second level and for the second occurrence of e2 at the third level. Problem with variable declared in TOP Include

Hi,
I have declared a variable P_TEXT in TOP include ZPGM_TOP. In main program ZPGM, I have declared this TOP include ZPGM_TOP and another include ZPGM_F01.
I am accessing P_TEXT in include ZPGM_F01, but it is giving me following error when I do syntex check.
Error : Field P_TEXT is unknown. It is neither in one of the specified tables nor defned by DATA statement.
But when I double click on P_TEXT in ZPGM_F01, it takes me to TOP include declaration.
Please advise what I am doing wrong.

Check the sequence in which your includes are declared e.g.
include zpgm_top. "data
include zpgm_f01. "code
would work, but:
include zpgm_f01. "code
include zpgm_top. "data
will give syntax error in "zpgm_f01".

Error with variable

Hi
I wrote a program that is supposed to call a method that returns 21 numbers with doubles from the user, then the program is supposed to call a method that displays the highest and lowest numbers entered as well as the average of the numbers. But... I get 2 errors that say cannot resolve symbol for lines 17 and 18 (which is this part number(arrays) and display(arrays) and another one that says cannot resolve symbols for line 40 int average = numbers.getAverage(); heres the program

you loop through and assign the numbers in numbers to
a variable called sum then divide by numbers.length,
would that be how you do it?It might just be a case of sloppy wording, but as written, no, that's not quite what you'd want to do.
for (...) {
    sum = numbers[ix];
} That's what your wording says to me. That may not be what you meant, but if it is, try it and see what happens.

Problem with variables declared as private?

Hi all,
I am currently having a very weird problem when i am running one of the JSP application deployed using weblogic.
I have a variable x and is declared as private.
By looking at the log file of every transaction done by the users, i can't trace the problem out.
Supposingly, the x variable should return a value=2, but somehow it always return a 3.
I confirmed that the value should be 2 rather than 3...When i see the log file, there is another user doing the same transaction as well, is there any possibility that, the value is being overwritten??

Actually the logic of the application goes in this way.
I am making use of the EJB, I declare the Entity Bean class at the JSP, then lookup and home create.
As for the variable x, its actually declared in the class as private, and in my jsp i have already declare threadsafe for the classes......
In this case, i found out something in my log file and have done testing concurrently.
To quote a scenario, let's say 2 people are accessing test.jsp at the same time, and test.jsp will forward to test1.jsp, test2.jsp before processing.
Person A login, goes to test.jsp
Person B then login, goes to test.jsp as well
Person A typed in something and goes to test1.jsp, then to test2.jsp, variable x now has the value of 3.
Person B typed in something and goes to test1.jsp, then test2.jsp, variable x should be 2, but it got the value of 3.
BUT if...............
Person A typed in something and goes to test1.jsp, then to test2.jsp, variable x now has the value of 3 and then processed and redirect back to main page.
Person B typed in something and goes to test1.jsp, then test2.jsp, variable x now is 2.
Person B processed the test2.jsp after Person A has finished processing.
Weird thing is, these 2 people are using different IE, but same weblogic server, and the console printed out some msg to indicate the values. May i know how can i solve this problem?
FYI, i actually changed to TestA test = new TestA();
then called the function test.executeA();
The variable x which is declared in Test A, holds the new value.
But if i do it in this way:

forgotten the syntax of the new Context()..but roughly typed here....
Aftter the new context being created, home being looked up..
test = (TestA) narrow(home.create............
the variable x in TestA somehow doesnt change the value
This way of declaration will have the problem...

A cursor fetch loop is not the ideal processing structure.
It is slow. It requires data to travel from the buffer cache of the database into PL/SQL variables (in the PGA). It requires context switching between the PL/SQL and SQL engines.

So if your loop is for a 1000 rows, it means writing a 1000 lines of text into very expensive server memory - and then expecting the client to read that afterwards and display it. Why? This is not a standard client-server method. It also does not scale. It can actually crash the server when this method is abused.
The standard method would be to create a SQL cursor using PL/SQL code, and then return a reference handle (pointer) to the client. This allows the client the ability to fetch data directly from the cursor - in an optimal way that does not consume expensive server memory.I have to say it: I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write this whenever it needs to be written rather than just giving up and letting people stumble along with bad design - it must take a lot of mental stamina to keep doing it. One day it will sink into my head also :-)

Variables declared in .JSPF flagged as error in .JSP

I am using version 11.1.1.2.0
On the website that I develop we make use of a few JSP segments (.jspf extensions). These segments declare variables that are used in the JSPs that include them. In this new version (11.1.1.2.0), those variables are now marked as an error with the message "Name <variableName> not found." In JDev 10.1.3, this was not an issue at all.
For example, the .JSPF would have:
String testString = "This is a test";The .JSP that includes the the above segment would make use of that, but testString would be highlighted as an error:

</html>This is does not cause any problems after deploying the site, but it is a nuisance seeing all the "errors" highlighted when there really isn't anything wrong. Is there a way to fix this problem?

This issue still has not been corrected as of JDEV 11.1.2.3.
If the included fragment (in my example) also includes stylesheets, then the references in that file appear to not be resolved correctly (design time), but work ok at runtime. So, the IDE would show warnings for things like:
Reference JSPError.jsp not found
Reference styles/MyApp.css not found
Reference js/utility.js not found
Then, the main page would have any errors for any static includes that introduce variables (and call methods on them), and don't have the styles displayed properly. This DEFINITELY worked in JDeveloper 10.1.3.4, as I am in the process of migrating a VERY old application (2002-2003) vintage and noticed all these errors in the JSPs, and corrected all of them in that version of JDEV. Now, in JDEV 11.1.2.3, I have a whole list of errors that shouldn't even appear. The <% @include file="page.jspf" %> directive is not fully functional as it was in the prior version.
Any help would be appreciated.

AFAIK - Variable substitution does not support attributes. It only support the elements. (- <ns1:batch-info id="test" isTest="true">)
May be you can go with dynamic configuration instead of variable substitution.

when i try to fill the control tables and browse for the target period in HFM (sys 9.3.1) i get the error: Error: Object variable or With block variable not set.
When browsing for the target value in the location for the value no problem occurs.
Anybody a clue?

At my site, BPC Excel created this problem too "Object Variable or With Block Variable not set" .
It turned out that this is symptom of a a dys-functioning BPC COM Plug-in in XL2007 or XL2010!
This is a consequence that your Excel recently crashed while using BPC. And it relates to an Excel Add-in becoming disabled when the applications crashes. Please check the following.
Note before doing the following, close all other open Excel and BPC sessions.
Within Excel go to File à Options
Select the Add-Ins option on the left
Select the <<COM Add-ins >> option in the Manage drop down, and click Go
Make sure that the Planning and Consolidation option is selected. If not, mark this box and click OK.
If you do not see anything listed, return to the Add-in screen and select the Disabled Items option, and see if Planning and Consolidation is listed there.

I am working on BPC NW 7.5. When I am trying to access BPC for Excel I am getting the below error.
'object variable or with variable not set'
When I click on BPC for Excel it ask for the credentials, after entering it we encounter this error.

I am working on SAP BPC 7.0 NW and using MS Excel 2003.
I can log in to BPC Admin and excel with my user id and password.
Only when i am trying to click esubmit --> send and refresh schedules i am getting this error.
I checked my security profile and i have the submit data task in my task profile.
Following couple existing SDN postings i tried to check the ADD-INs of the excel on my system. However it looks like the steps listed in the existing SDN posts are for MS EXCEL 2007.
Please suggest me how do i resolve this issue. Please note I am working on SAP BPC 7.0 NW and using MS Excel 2003.

When I try to create a new journal, I get an error "object variable or with block variable not set"
This is happening with some computers but not all of them, the same user can create a journal in some computers.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling BPC office client but that did not work.
Do you have any other ideas ?

You have to check first if you are able to access the reporting service frm that speific client machine typing:
http://<reporting server name>/reports. If all is woking well , you have to check also the number of default sheets for an empty excel sheet (should be 3) - I ma not sure what version are you using.
If still not work, please let me know when exactly the error appear, when you try to open the template (clicking on journal option) or after when you fill the report, save it, so on.

I doubt if you are following the below steps. Please confirm. Thanks
1. Open your normal Excel.
2. Check for Planning and Consolidation tab on the top ribbon.
3. I assume this wouldn't be available for you.
4. If this is not present, open the Excel Options
5. Click on Add-Ins and check the Active Application Add-ins
6. Is Planning and consolidation present in it?
7. If not, select "Disabled Add-ins" in the drop down below besides "Manage".
8. Click "GO"
9. Select the Planning and Consolidation add-in from disabled add-ins and "Enable" it.
10. Check once again if this add-in is prersent in "Active" add-ins .
11. Now close and re-open excel
12. The Tab should be present now (Planning and Consolidation)
