Essentials 2012 R2 Exchange Integration with Multiple Domain Controllers

Attempting to integrate Exchange Server 2012 with the Essentials wizard results in the error message: "This task must be performed on the domain controller." I've found several threads that speculate this is because there are multiple domain controllers
in the domain. Is there a workaround or patch available to resolve this issue? Why wouldn't Microsoft want the redundancy of multiple DCs?
Thanks.

Hi HartmannTek,
I agree with Robert.
We can get the following information from the article:
Services Integration Overview for Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials - Part 1. Please refer to.
Currently, the Services Integration features, including Windows Azure Active Directory integration, Office
365 integration, Windows Intune integration, and on-premises Exchange integration, are only supported in a single domain controller environment. In addition, the integration wizard must be run on a domain controller.
Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Justin Gu

  • Announcing the availability of enabling Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials' integration of Microsoft online services in environments with multiple domain controllers

In Windows Server Essentials 2012 R2, all of our online services integration features, including Azure Active Directory and Office 365, are supported only in environments that
have a single domain controller. In environments with more than one domain controller, integration of these services is blocked due limitations in the user account and password synchronization mechanism in Windows Server Essentials.
I am happy to announce that with the recent Windows August Update released on (8/12/2014, PST), this limitation has been removed.  This update adds support for both Azure
Active Directory integration and Office 365 integration features in domain environments consisting of a single domain controller, multiple domain controllers, or Windows Server Essentials as a domain member server.

  • Cannot have multiple domain controllers with Essentials role in 2012 R2 Standard/Datacenter

Microsoft's Technet post on deploying Essentials Role in an existing AD environment states the following:
"The online service integration features only work when the server is a domain controller. Also, integration cannot be initiated if there are multiple domain controllers in the environment. The product team is investigating possible solutions."
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2013/10/28/enabling-multiple-instances-of-windows-server-essentials-experience-in-your-environment.aspx
Microsoft Essentials Role product team, can you let us know when this will be fixed? I will not be installing Essentials as a Role if I cannot have multiple domain controllers.
As soon as I add another domain controller the Essentials role no longer functions as designed.
This is quite an oversight by your team. Can we have an ETA for a fix to this please?
Here are more with the same issue:

Hi. We can't give ETA. Most user there that help does not work for Microsoft. (and if a Microsoft's employee help, then it's on it's free time at home or during break)
Thus, for that reason, please call the support to get a good answer on the ETA is it's planned or not. Be advised that the essential's version replaced the SBS, thus it target small office, such limitation can stay for a long time IMO.

  • One SRM integrated with multiple Backends

    Hi All
Can One SRM be integrated with multiple Backends?
If so any insights, documentation, pros-cons that can you all can share?
Does the version of SRM or ECC matter?
SRM version will be 7.0 and ECC 6 EP3.
    Thanks,
    Gamad

    Hi Gamad,
multiple backend systems for one SRM is normal and works fine.
You just need to connect the systems, replicate the materials/vendors you would like to use and maintain the SRM customizing:
    1) Add the further backend system(s):
-> Supplier Relationship Management -> SRM Server -> Technical Basic Settings -> Define Backend Systems
    2) Define the scenario/follow-on document creation for the product categories
-> Supplier Relationship Management -> SRM Server -> Technical Basic Settings  -> Define Backend System for Product Category
    3) Define the scenario/follow-on document creation for the product categories
-> Supplier Relationship Management -> SRM Server -> Cross-Application Basic Settings -> Define Objects in Backend System (Purch. Reqs, Reservations, Purch. Orders)

  • Using Windows 8.1 With Older Domain Controllers

Is there any document that would specify types of incompatibility we might expect when using Windows 8.1 with older domain controllers, either Windows 2000 or Windows 2003?
I assume at minimum that these older domain controllers would not have group policies that are able to support the full security policy feature set of Windows 8.1?    For such cases, how do we configure security policy on those 8.1 domain member
computers?   Would we use LocalGPO.wsf to import a local security policy, then join the computer to the domain to override just the settings that are supported by the domain controller and windows 8.1 in common?

  • Exchange setup for multiple domains

We are planning to deploy Exchange server 2013, We have two companies and would like to create Email box for both the companies with same name.
Example : [email protected], [email protected]
We would like to have separte email boxes for the both companies. Please suggest us accordingly.

That should be simple enough. Exchange can handle having multiple domains for sending / receiving and users can have multiple mailboxes configured in Outlook. The name field in Exchange doesn't need to be unique (the account name does obviously), so for
instance there's no issue having "Fred Bloggs" <[email protected]> and "Fred Bloggs" <[email protected]> both setup.
In a way the trickier part is setting it up in Outlook since different versions react differently. If you're using Outlook 2013 it should be quite straight forward. As you can see here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee815819.aspx the manual setup is easy enough for multiple exchange mailboxes, though auto mapping should work as well. If you're in a network AD
environment (eg connecting using your local password), then realistically you'll want one mailbox to be primary which is associated to your network login, and then that login to have full access and send as permissions on the second mailbox.
You may also need to deploy a reg key change to enable saving sent items from the second mailbox into that mailboxes sent items folder rather then the primary mailboxes (assuming you want to keep messages two and from both domains separate and in their own
mailboxes). The reg key is listed here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2843677 and is definitely needed in Outlook 2007 and 2010 but I'm not sure if it's still an issue if you're using Outlook 2013.

  • Exchange Integration with MSX-A on a Windows 2003 Server

    Hi
We try to integrate Microsoft Exchange (Version 2003 SP1) into SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0 SR1. The MSX-A components are installed on the OWA System, a different Windows 2003 System with Outlook XP (SP3) on it.
The error displayed in the Calendar iView on the Portal:
"An internal error occurred while generating the XML from the MSX-A component"
From the "SAP EP Test Exchange Transport Setup" Tool an error occures on the "Data Retrieval" Test:
"An error occurred retrieving the data."
    and in detail:
    MAPI_E_LOGON_FAILED(80040111)
MS KBase http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181739/en-us didn't help. To resolution 3: Policy "Log on Locally" on a Windows 2003 doesn't exist anymore (?). "Deny Log on Locally" isn't given to relevant groups.
    Thanks and best regards

    <b>Process</b>
Microsoft outlook  Integration With SAP Enterprise Portal 6.0
    (Process description)
These documents describe the entire process of integrating Exchange server with enterprise portal server to leverage the usage of lotus notes within the portal framework.
    Step1: Create a System
o     Choose System Administration&#61664;System configuration&#61664;System Landscape&#61664;Portal Content&#61664;Content Provided by SAP. Right click on collaboration and then choose New From Par&#61664;System.
o     Select com.sap.netweaver.col.app.gw and choose next.
o     Select a server (Microsoft Exchange server) and then choose next.
o     Enter the System Name and ID (for ex Exchange) and choose next and then finish.
o     Enter System Aliases by choosing system Alias from the display drown list.
o     Enter the system Alias in the alias field and choose add and then save.
    Step II: Create E-Mail Transport
&#61607;     The email transport defines the SMTP server and other configuration required for sending e-mails. To configure an e-mail transport choose
    &#61607;     System Administration&#61664;System Configuration&#61664;Knowledge Management&#61664;Collaboration&#61664;GroupWare Transports&#61664;Mail Transport
&#61607;     SMTP Sever: The address of the SMTPServer for sending e-mails
&#61607;     Sent Messages: You specify the folder on the server where the sent e-mail is to be   store: -Sent Items on Microsoft Exchange Server.
&#61607;     System Alias name: Alias that was defined for the groupware server in system configuration.
    Step III: Check E-Mailing Service
This is a global service that is required for sending e-mails and which can be   located by choosing System Administration&#61664;System configuration&#61664;Knowledge Management&#61664;Content Management&#61664;Global services&#61664;Mailing Service. This service needs to be active and an email transport must already have been created.
    Microsoft Exchange Transports
The overall transport consists of two parts: MSX-J on the portal server and the MSX-A on the Exchange Server or a machine near to the Exchange Server.
MSX-J is the java part that runs on the portal server is deployed automatically on the portal server during installation, and implements the groupware API.It uses the Groupware APIs and repository development kit.
MSX-A is the active server page and sap exchange connector.dll running on a n iis server with Microsoft Collaboration data objects (CDO) and in the same domain as the exchange server or in a trusting domain .The ASP and DLL are Collectively CALLED MSX-A and is installed as part of the Outlook Installation. This needs to be installed on every IIS SERVER dedicated to the MS Exchange Server
        The Process flow is
1.TheMSX_J transport makes an HTTP(s) call to the MSX_A running on the IIS.
2.Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) uses Basic Authentication to authenticate user based on NT user/password against the Microsoft Exchange Server.
3.CDO uses the authentication token and fetches the data.
4.MSX-A converts the data into XMl and returns it to MSX-J
    Installation of MSXA Components
You have to carry out these steps for every IIS that accesses the exchange server or the Outlook WEB Access 5.5 SP Server in the system landescape:
1.Locate the MSX-A component shipped with Exchange transport.
The components can be found in<irj>\root\WEB-INF\PORTAL\PORTALAPPS\com.sap.netweaver.coll.appgw\WEB –INF\external\Exchange.
2 Locate an IIS that is in the same domain as the Exchange Server or in a trusted domain.
3.Create a folder on the IIS for example,c:\SAPExchangeTransport.
4.Copy the MSX-A Components to the folder you just created.
5.Register the DLL by using command regsrvr32 in the command prompt for example c:\winnt\sysytem32\regsvr32.exe c:\SAPExchangeTransport\SapExchangeConnector.dll
6.Create a new Iis Website or if using Outlook Web Access 5.5 sp4 create a virtual directory
Since most of configuration errors arise in the setup and configuration of the MSX-A components a separate test application is shipped with the connectivity, which allows you to check that the setup is correct.
1.locate SAPPXchTest.exe which is shipped with the exchange transports. The components can be found at <irj>\root\portalapps\com.sap.netweaver.coll.appl.gw\external\exchange.
2 copy the executable file to the machine on which the MSX-A component has been deployed.
3.Test the CDO version by launching the executable file on the machine on which msx-a was deployed.Choose Test CDO-Version .You should receive a success message .if you recive an error message follow the instructions given
4Test data retrieval by launching the executable file on the machine on which MSX-A was deployed choose Test&#61664;Data Retrieval Fill in necessary fields you should receive a success message but if you receive an error message follow the instructions given
    5.Choose Save Results
6.open the log file indicted by the message

    <b>Constraints</b>
    Constraints of Microsoft Exchange Connectivity
&#61607;     The Microsoft Exchange transport currently only support items with types appointment and meeting request .Other types such as discussion and not currently not supported.
&#61607;     Deleting an instance of a recurring appointment affects only that particular instance
&#61607;     Calendar items in personal folder are not supported. Users can only view and modify items located on the exchange server from the iviews
&#61607;     Public folders on the exchange server are not supported
&#61607;     Calendar items are delivered as such  if sent to recipients within the intranet .If the recipients is in different domain than the sender ,the format in which the items are delivered depends on the server responsible for sending the item in question

  • How to create a muse site in various languages with multiple domains

I have been asked to create a website for a product. A very simple website with maybe one or two pages and one product for sale for which the client would like Paypal as the payment gateway. Simple right?
No! This client would like to market their product into Europe, they would like to purchase multiple European domains ( .fr, .de for example).
So how on earth can I do this? I will be using Muse for build and Business Catalyst for hosting.
Bearing in mind the client will not want to pay for separately hosted sites. Is there a way of translating the text for each domain. Or could I assign multiple domains but direct them to different home pages within the same site?
I haven’t a clue how to problem solve this.

  • How to confiture virtual hosts with multiple domain names

    hello,
I've read through some of the postings here on virtual hosts, but I thought I'd better solicit advice before I actually try some of the things I've read about.
In a nutshell, I've purchased multiple domain names that I'd like to alias to a new site (currently it is just a subfolder in the main site directory) on my OS 10.3.x server. There is only the one main site configured right now on the box, so I know I need to set up a second "virtual site" pointing to the files in this subfolder to make it function as its own site.
I've dabbled around with the sites settings in the GUI, but I'd probably be most comfortable setting all this up in the httpd.conf by hand if I could. But I'm weary of this because I know it might be better to use the GUI because of OS X Server's flavor of WebObjects and Apache (sigh).
So, I have two main questions:
    1) How would I set up this second site using the GUI in server settings? Do I need to first move the subfolder out of the main folder before it can be designated its own site? Or can I just point to it in the GUI? Can I use one of my purchased domain names in the domain field?
    2) Currently, I have URL Forwarding set with my multiple domain names, but I'm thinking there might be a better way to do this? For SEO I'd rather use some type of redirect rather than being penalized by search engines for having what looks to be multiple domains pointing to the same site.I'm thinking I should create virtual sites for each domain name I've purchased with a hard redirect back to the main site?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9) 10.3.9 Server

    thank you for your reply.
    > You can create each site as a new Site in Server
Admin. When you do this you can choose any
directory on disk as the document root for each
site. This means you can move the sites' folders out of
/Library/WebServer/Documents if you like - you could
    create /Library/WebServer/site1,
/Library/WebServer/site2, etc. (or even be outside of
    /Library/WebServer if you want).
so, are you are saying that I could designate one site to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1
    and another to be
    /Library/WebServer/Documents/site1/directory1
even though directory1 is contained within site1's structure? I'm not advancing this as a good idea, necessarily. I'm just wondering if Apache would complain.
    > Each site should have the domain name set as per your
registered domains. Apache will need this to
determine the correct site to serve for each
    request.
Well, after some additional research I'm thinking I'm missing a critical piece of the puzzle. That being access to the DNS host server that manages the context of my server. I have purchased domain names through an outside registrar that point to my site and I can create virtual hosts on my server, but I don't have the ability to add the new virtual host names into the DNS server that manages my box. If that makes sense. Or maybe I'm missing something?
    >
I'm not sure why you're using URL forwarding at all.
Without that piece of information it's impossible to
tell you whether you should continue using them or
not - in general there's no need to use URL
forwarding if you have multiple Virtual Hosts setup,
but it sounds like you have multiple hostnames
pointing to the same content, so your needs may be
    different.
I'm using forwarding for the reason I list above. I didn't purchase hosting with the registrar where I purchased my domain names, so they are parked on the registrar's name server with URL forwarding to my server. The DNS server that manages my box resides in a different location and I don't have the ability to add DNS entries pointing to virtual hosts that I want to set up. Am I stuck?

  • Messed with multiple Domains... Big Problems

I have posted on this topic because I was experiencing very slow save times and publishing times.
I had 20+ sites created in iWeb, many of which have large photo galleries.
Wanting to solve this problem, I tried a couple of techniques to start with a fresh Domain.
I tried duplicating the existing Domain and deleting the sites I didnt want in Domain 2.
Problem was this retained the massive "Albums" folder within iWeb package content.
The sites didnt show in the iWeb interface but the new Domain was giant (1.9 gigs) and saving and publishing still took forever.
So I went into the Domain 2 package contents and deleted the Albums for the sites I didnt want in my new Domain.
Well then Domain saved and published nice and fast as I expected it to.
    Thing is...
Now all of my previous sites from the old Domain are broken when you attempt to view them on the web.
They all look fine when I look at them in iWeb by opening their files in iWeb.
My original Domain is still intact where I have stored it on my computer.
When I check my iDisk, I can see that my old websites are there but their Media folders are completely empty.
Sooo... how do I fix this situation?
I realize I brought this upon myself but I was trying to do what I have got to believe is doable.
I want to have multiple Domains so I can work more efficiently.
Surely I dont have to be saddled with updating a 1.9 gig Domain every time I publish to iWeb.

You're only putting the domain file(s) in the trash to prevent iWeb opening them so that it will be forced to created a new blank domain file. Then drag it out and store it in a folder.
Individual domain files are opened in Iweb by double clicking them.
Splitting domain files with multiple sites is not recommended. You're only leaving yourself open to file corruption and other problems some where down the line.
Start each new site on a blank domain file and store it in its own folder.

  • Exchange Recon with multiple Servers & Message Stores per Server

I am trying to think through the best way to write a single reconciliation task for an environment that has 3 Exchange Servers with 3 storage groups per server and 3 mailbox stores per storage group. That's 27 mailbox stores and I don't want to have 27 schedules tasks for reconciliation.
    Any thoughts?
    KC

All the servers are in a single domain.
The issues is the default scheduled task requires an exchange server and ad server parameter. The mailboxes not on the server specified show as "Users Matched" instead of "Event Linked" the reconciliation process.
Our Reconciliation Rule is "User Login equals sAMAcountName", but the mailboxes still don't match correctly. I originally thought this rule would work regardless of the exchange server(s) involved, but it does not seem to be the case.

  • CUC 8.5 UM integration with multiple AD Forest

    Hi Guys,
I need to do a unity connection 8.5 UM integration with exchange 2003 and 2010 in two different AD Forest. AD 2003/exchange 2003 is in one Forest (Account Forest) with 2003 mailboxes on a corporate network AND AD 2008/exchange 2010 is in second Forest (Resource Forest) with 2010 mailboxes in the CLOUD. There is also a trust relationship between 2 AD Forest. As per unity connection 8.x SRND, we must create separate unified messaging services account (AD account) for each Forest.
Given the above scenario, I think we need 2 AD accounts, one on AD 2003 (for exchange 2003 mailboxes) and second one on AD 2008 (for exchange 2010 mailboxes). However, in this configuration if mailboxes are moved from 2003 to 2010 we will have to manually disassociate the unity connection subscriber mailbox with unified messaging service account (AD 2003 account) and re-associate it with unified messaging service account (AD 2008 account), is that correct? or is there a way to automate this if the mailboxes are moved to 2010 unity connection automatically detects the change?
Any pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Can any one comment on this please? Perhaps TAC engineers might be able to provide some insight?

  • CCM / AD intigration with Multiple domains

Our corporation is made up of two different active directory domains. Is it possible to integrate call manager with both domains?

If they are in the same forest, yes you can. Take a look at the following link:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_callmg/4_2/srnd4_2/uc4_2/42drctry.htm#wp1067012
There are definitely some added complexities and considerations in this sceario. Take a look at the following note from the previous link:
"In a multiple-domain AD forest, try to keep the users for a specific Cisco Unified CallManager cluster within a single domain, and follow the guidelines described previously. If a single domain is not possible because users are spread across multiple domains, set the User Search Base to the lowest point in the tree containing all domains with users serviced by the Cisco Unified CallManager cluster. In structures in which serviced child domains are under the top-level domain, the User Search Base must be set at the root of the entire AD forest. In all cases, though, try to ensure that a domain controller for each serviced domain is collocated with Cisco Unified CallManager, or that the network is sufficiently resilient and fast to allow remote searches with no greater performance degradation than occurs with local searches."
Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

  • Office 365 tenant with multiple domains - What does Azure AD backend look like?

I'm planning a full cloud deployment of multiple services. I have a few domains I'll be using for email. My question is simple. If I create an office365 tenant, add 3 domains, and then go to AzureAD, do I have 3 Azure AD instances or a single directory?
I'm planning on leveraging Visual Studio Online, but it doesn't play nice with multiple Azure AD domains so I need to make sure I get this right.

you can do both. But normally you will use one azue ad, with all the suffixes in it. But you could create a Azure AD for every domain.
