ESX VM for solaris x64

Hi,
I am trying to create a solaris 64 inside an esx vm.
I have the iso-dvd for the x64/x86; but when i finish install it shows i386 from isainfo.
In that ESX host, i do have a windows server 2003 r2 enterprise x64 edition (which i believe confirms that the host is capable of 64bit).
can you please tell me:
a. when you are installing is there a way to make sure the OS installed is x64 or this is done automatically? should i change anything? i did copy the entire dvd for the iso reference on the cd/dvd selection under the esx install.
the install goes to completion; however when it comes to boot, the only way to boot is through fail safe
for the first option on boot is:
solaris 10 - 11/06 s10x_w2wos_10 x86
for some reason it automatically select the x86;
can you help me identify what is going on?
the host = ESX is a hp xw6600 workstation
thank you,
,./antonio/.

There may have been a comminication problem here. There is really two Java VMs at Oracle, the one that runs in the Database (named Oracle Database JVM) and the one that is shipped with JDeveloper which is named the Oracle Client JVM. The Oracle Client JVM is currently only available for Windows.

Despite the errors i did extract supporting libraries to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH and to my surprise i was able to start R without an error:
ROracle Distribution of R version 2.15.1 (2012-06-22) -- "Roasted Marshmallows"

I don't understand what those errors received during installation mean. What could be a reason for? A fix?
Do you think i could safely ignore them?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Regards,
PS. I have a flash of enlightenment. Are those <svrtech> and <aime> in error messages a group and an user name of the account the package was prepared with (or something like that)??

  • JRock Kit for Solaris 10 x86/x64

    Hi,
Why don't exist a Jrock Kit distribution for
    Solaris 10 x86/x64?
    I have Bea 8.1, 9.2 for Solaris 10
    x86/x64 and now Oracle 10g Rel 2 and I don't understand why
    BEA don't release it.
    Thanx
    Giancarlo

Porting JRockit to new OSes/architectures is very expensive, so we have to prioritize the porting effort based on customer interest, and there has been very little demand for JRockit on Solaris/x86. Most customers purchasing Sun x86 hardware use Windows or Linux.

  • Cross compiling apps on solaris 8 for solaris 10 x86 and x64

    Hi All,
We have a few applications built on Solaris 8. and we want to build the same apps on Solaris 10 x86 and x64 but the problem is clearcase does not support Solaris 10 yet.
Can we cross compile the apps on Solaris 8 for Solaris 10 x86 and x64 ? and how ?
waiting for any info on this.
    TIA,
    warm regards,
    Girish

FYI, I noticed the reply on Sun Studio General Forum:
If you build an app on one version of Solaris, the app will run on later Solaris versions. So in particular, you can build an x86 application on Solaris 8 and run it on Solaris 9 and 10.
Unfortunately, an x64 application must be built on a Solaris x64 system, which first became available with Solaris 10.

  • Instant client for Solaris AMD x64

    Hi,
I am desperately looking for OCI instant client for solaris AMD x64. I tried instant client download page (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html) but it is not listed there. I have no idea who to contact within Oracle or Oracle tech support.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Boris

I've just downloaded the basic and sqlplus zip files and sqlplus works fine. sqlplus is linked to libclntsh.so.10.1, so I doubt that file is corrupt.

  • How about gccfss for Solaris x86/x64 platforms?

Subject says it all... it could make compiling a lot of code out there a whole lot easier!
    Bob

I also desire gccfss for Solaris x86/x64 platforms .
In the interim I have downloaded the source and am attempting to create such a beast.
It is slow progress to fix the unexpected script breakage, but it seems to be going OK:
    Problems:
1.): Issues like "-mtune=v9" and an "embeded spec" in gcc and cpp (from files
    gccfss_src/build/gcc/gccspec.o and gccfss_src/build/gcc/cppspec.o).
    2.): Use of OPTTABLE_H = $(srcdir)/config/target-option-table.h with SPARC specific
    options throughout
    EG:
    #ifdef CROSS_COMPILE
    #define NATIVE \
    { "-native", "-xtarget=generic" }, \
    { "-xarch=native64", "-Zarch=v9 -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=64" },\
    { "-xarch=native", "-Zarch=v8plus -Zarchm32=v8plus -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=32" },\
    { "-xtarget=native64", "-Zarch=generic -Zarchm32=generic -Zarchm64=v9 -xchip=generic -xcache=generic -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native", "-Zarch=generic -Zarchm32=generic -Zarchm64=v9 -xchip=generic -xcache=generic -Zm=32"}
    #else
    #define NATIVE \
    { "-native", "-xtarget=native" }, \
    { "-xarch=native64", "-xarch=native64 -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xarch=native", "-xarch=native -Zm=32"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native64", "-xtarget=native64 -Zm=64"}, \
    { "-xtarget=native", "-xtarget=native -Zm=32"}
    #endif
Thus, one would need to change:
    { "-xarch=native64", "-Zarch=v9 -Zarchm64=v9 -Zm=64" },\
    to something like:
    { "-xarch=native64", "-xarch=386 -m64" },\
3.): Copy the "sparc_output_scratch_registers()" function from file
    "gccfss_src/src/gcc/config/sparc/sparc.c" to "gccfss_src/src/gcc/tree-ir.c".
4.): Use the undocumented command line option "-frtl-backend" when this error
occurs during the build (a simple Makefile change):
`-mcpu=' is deprecated. Use `-mtune=' or '-march=' instead.
xgcc: SUNW0scgfss 4.2.0 has not been installed. Either install it or use -frtl-backend.
    5.): More ...
All these issues occur because the scripts expect "--build=sparc-pc-solaris2.11" but
I configured using "--build=i386-pc-solaris2.11" . It seems like it is going to work
but I am yet to finish stage1 of the build (I do have a working "xgcc").

  • Adobe Reader for x86/x64 Solaris

What is the idea behind this? Why don't we have a version for Intel processors? Can Adobe answer?

Yes, we have the v4 release, but, well, it pretty much sucks. I did send a message to a person at Adobe who replied that
Contrary to what people presume, coming out with a huge product like a Reader on an additional platform, isn't simply a re-compile. There are various 3rd party components that the Reader ships with (internal and external) and the team needs to evaluate what the schedule for these dependencies would have, also there's a ton of extra testing involved the moment we add an additional platform. Also, there's market viability, where we look at the numbers or the traction a platform is getting before we take a decision.
It's not clear to me that if they have versions for both Linux/x86 and Solaris/SPARC that creating a version for Solaris/x86 should be all that difficult. I can't think of where they would have library problems. I do understand the testing point. Testing GUI-based programs is a human-intensive undertaking. I don't understand how "market viability" for Solaris/SPARC could be better than Solaris/x86 at this point.
He also included a pointer to the Adobe 8.1.1 FAQ: http://blogs.adobe.com/acroread/2007/09/adobe_reader_811_faqs.html

  • Installing SOA Suite 11gR1 + OSB 11gR1 on Solaris x64

    Experts,
I'm having some trouble installing SOA Suite and OSB on Solaris x64.
According to the last certification matrix
    [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11gr1certmatrix.xls]
ALL products are supported on Solaris x64 (version 11.1.1.4+) , but when trying to execute the runInstaller I get the following error:
    $ ./runInstaller -jreLoc /usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.6.0/
    ./runInstaller: /soasoat/install/SOA/Disk1/install/solaris/runInstaller: cannot execute
I searched in eDelivery but there aren't any SOA installers (for version 11.1.1.1) for Solaris on x64
Is there any way to bypass this error?
    Thanks in advance.
    Leandro

    Hi Leandro
    1. SOA Installer has nothing to do with 32/64 bit. I mean there is NO specific 64 bit version of soa software. It is the underlying Weblogic Server that matters.
    2. Since you have 64 bit machine, very first thing, you should install a 64 Bit JDK (Sun or JRockit). And make sure to put this in path. When you run java -version, you should see this 64 bit jdk referred. Now comes Weblogic Server. You need to Download Weblogic Server Generic Installer (file ending with .jar). Then you install Weblogic server using command something like this:
java -d64 -jar weblogic_generic_xxxx.jar (Try -d or -D). After installation, now you have Weblogic Server 64 Bit installed on top of 64 Bit JDK.
    3. Now run the SOA Installer and for the jre, you can refer the above jdk/jre location.
    Thanks

  • What happended to the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 4.2 for Solaris 10?

What happended to the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool 4.2 for Solaris 10?
I'm trying to debug a kernel panic under Solaris 10 on sparcv9. I tried the SUNWscat 4.1 package but it core dumps on Solaris 10. I found a blog entry that described the problem and mentioned a version 4.2 fix. That was from May 2006, but I have not found any update sense then. Was 4.2 ever released or is their an alternative tool for Solaris 10 that I can use?

One problem is that those of us who develop Solaris CAT do so as a "hobby" as it's not part of our actual jobs. But he good news is that management gave us the time to get a release out and 5.0 is now available here . We're now planning 6 month releases so we don't have a 5 year delay between updates.
BTW, the Solaris Crash Analysis Tool supports Solaris 10, OpenSolaris/Solaris Nevada, sparc, and x86/x64.
There are so many enhancements and bug fixes that I'd recommend reading the release notes (SUNWscat/docs/index.html).

  • Unable to install SAP Netweaver 2004s in Solaris x64

I am trying to install SAP Net2004s in solaris x64 and it has JDK1.6.
For some reason the SAPINST keeps giving error "JDK version 1.5.0 and above is not supported by SAP.
I downloaded and installed j2sdk1.4.2_24_b06 as per note 716604.
    Created environment variable as
    export JAVA_HOME=/opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
    export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
    export SAPINST_JRE_HOME=opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
now if i execute java -version, again it is showing as Jdk1.6
    which java
    /usr/bin/java
i am able to execute xclock.
I renamed the softlink in /usr/java to java.old and created new one as /usr/java pointed to /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
after this if i execute java -version, it gives an error "Error occurred during initialization of VM
    java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object"
Now i checked the java executables, it is located in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64/ (all java executables)
Now i set the env PATH /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64 before the variable /ur/bin/java
I tried creating env as "export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin/amd64". But no luck.
I would really appreciate if someone could help me to pass through this error.
    Thanks in advance.

install a fresh JDK just need 64 bit version
and set the environment variables accordingly,
i did install java64bit and out put java -version is j2sdk1.4.2_24 64bit
    created env
    export JAVA_HOME=/opt/j2dsk1.4.2_24
    export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
    export SAPINST_JRE_HOME=/opt/j2dsk1.4.2_24
    export DISPLAY=XXX:0.0
    able to execute xclock
But got the same error when i try to execute ./sapinst
    error "GUI not Connected......."
i wonder that in java 64 bit,the executables are located in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64/(all java executables)
but when we execute ./sapinst, it shows as it is searching the executables in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin
i don't know if that matters.
but just want to let you know that, i was able to get the sapinst gui, when pointing to java1.6 version, but unfortunatly sap won't support above java1.5.
path of java1.6 executables - /usr/jdk/jdk1.6../bin/(all java executables)
Please help me resolving this issue.

  • Migration from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64

    Hi,
In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor. I need clarification for below mentioned points.
    1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
    2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Also, please let me know the steps to be followed for the activity mentioned above.
    Regards,
    Ranjith

    > In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor.
Well - I think you're mixing a few things up here.
Solaris x64 refers to Solaris on the Intel or the AMD processor (x64 == x86_64 == AMD64)
UltraSPARC IV+ refers to a CPU developed by Sun (now Oracle).
    > 1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
There are no specific guides for OS migrations. You use the heterogeneous system copy approach. However, migrating a database and/or operating system requires a certified migration consultant on-site doing the migration. If you do it yourself you'll loose support from SAP for problems during the migration and for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
    > 2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Yes. Solaris 10 on SPARC Is supported.

  • Hardware counter profiling on Solaris/X64

    Hi,
I want to buy X4100 for my development. Hardware counter profiling is crucial for my work.
I know how it works on Solaris/Sparc. Can anybody confirm that Solaris/X64 on X4100 supports
    all hardware counters of Opteron?

A 4100 system we have in our lab,
    - ncpus = 2, clock frequency 2593 MHz.

I need to install a Solaris x64 on a x2200m2, it's the first Sun machine on that network, no boot server or jumpstart server around.
I am thinking to use wan boot on x64, but it seems that wan boot only support sparc platform, is that true?
the other way i want to do is to make a bootable dvdrom with flash archive in it. anyone have experience on that?
    dk

There is actually a Sun blueprint for creating a boot DVD with flash archive integrated.
I don't have it handy; but it covers the basics.
    Best,
