Hardware counter profiling on Solaris/X64
Hi,
I want to buy X4100 for my development. Hardware counter profiling is crucial for my work.
I know how it works on Solaris/Sparc. Can anybody confirm that Solaris/X64 on X4100 supports
all hardware counters of Opteron?
A 4100 system we have in our lab,
- ncpus = 2, clock frequency 2593 MHz.
- memory: 524174 pages @ 4096 bytes = 2047 MB.
shows that Analyzer can access the following hardware counters without modification to the Solaris driver:

Why is the hardware counter profiling disabled on Opteron using SUSE Linux? How to solve it? I'm sure that the system support hadware counter profiling because I can use Oprofile to collect profile information. The version of kernel is 2.6
Dear all,
I have downloaded perfctrl library (used by "collect" tool) as this is required by collect tool for getting performance data from underline system.
from http://user.it.uu.se/~mikpe/linux/perfctr/2.6/perfctr-2.6.34.tar.gz
OS
Linux MyMachine 2.6.18-92.el5.src-PAPI #1 SMP Tue Jan 27 10:57:40 CET 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Architecture
AMD 64 bits (Family 10h) or x86_64
I am using Java version
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_10"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-b33)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)
My question is that when i install using defaults, perfctr user library installs 64-bit of libray version that can be used with 64-bit JVM
but i need to use or get performance data using "collect" tool and 32-bit JVM, for that i think i need 32-bit version of "perfctr" library
So i want to know can any body kindly tell me how to build 32-bit "perfctl" library on my system.
Many Thanks -
Installing SOA Suite 11gR1 + OSB 11gR1 on Solaris x64
Experts,
I'm having some trouble installing SOA Suite and OSB on Solaris x64.
According to the last certification matrix
[http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11gr1certmatrix.xls]
ALL products are supported on Solaris x64 (version 11.1.1.4+) , but when trying to execute the runInstaller I get the following error:
$ ./runInstaller -jreLoc /usr/jdk/instances/jdk1.6.0/
./runInstaller: /soasoat/install/SOA/Disk1/install/solaris/runInstaller: cannot execute
I searched in eDelivery but there aren't any SOA installers (for version 11.1.1.1) for Solaris on x64
Is there any way to bypass this error?
Thanks in advance.
LeandroHi Leandro
1. SOA Installer has nothing to do with 32/64 bit. I mean there is NO specific 64 bit version of soa software. It is the underlying Weblogic Server that matters.
2. Since you have 64 bit machine, very first thing, you should install a 64 Bit JDK (Sun or JRockit). And make sure to put this in path. When you run java -version, you should see this 64 bit jdk referred. Now comes Weblogic Server. You need to Download Weblogic Server Generic Installer (file ending with .jar). Then you install Weblogic server using command something like this:
java -d64 -jar weblogic_generic_xxxx.jar (Try -d or -D). After installation, now you have Weblogic Server 64 Bit installed on top of 64 Bit JDK.
3. Now run the SOA Installer and for the jre, you can refer the above jdk/jre location.
Thanks

hello all,
i got issue when i install grid(11.0.2.0.3 for solaris x64 version), after install software and the run "root.sh" and got the follow error message:

any one can help me about that?
and i got the same error for solaris x64 11/11 version.Hi Friend
Below both are NOT CERTIFIED
Oracle Real Application Clusters 11.2.0.3.0 is not certified on Oracle Solaris on x86-64 (64-bit) 11.1
Oracle Real Application Clusters 11.2.0.3.0 is not certified on Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) 11.1

User's profile in Solaris Express Developper Edition
I was just wondering, where is the ".profile" in Solaris Epress DE located.
In Solaris 10 it's just located in the user's local directory.
In other words how can I edit a user's profile in Solaris Express? You should probably direct SXDE queries to the forums at http://opensolaris.org, more chance of a response from the JDS developers there.

Unable to install SAP Netweaver 2004s in Solaris x64
I am trying to install SAP Net2004s in solaris x64 and it has JDK1.6.
For some reason the SAPINST keeps giving error "JDK version 1.5.0 and above is not supported by SAP.
I downloaded and installed j2sdk1.4.2_24_b06 as per note 716604.
Created environment variable as
export JAVA_HOME=/opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin
export SAPINST_JRE_HOME=opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
now if i execute java -version, again it is showing as Jdk1.6
which java
/usr/bin/java
i am able to execute xclock.
I renamed the softlink in /usr/java to java.old and created new one as /usr/java pointed to /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24
after this if i execute java -version, it gives an error "Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object"
Now i checked the java executables, it is located in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64/ (all java executables)
Now i set the env PATH /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64 before the variable /ur/bin/java
I tried creating env as "export PATH=$PATH:$JAVA_HOME/bin/amd64". But no luck.
I would really appreciate if someone could help me to pass through this error.
Thanks in advance.install a fresh JDK just need 64 bit version
and set the environment variables accordingly,
i did install java64bit and out put java -version is j2sdk1.4.2_24 64bit
created env
export JAVA_HOME=/opt/j2dsk1.4.2_24
export PATH=$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH
export SAPINST_JRE_HOME=/opt/j2dsk1.4.2_24
export DISPLAY=XXX:0.0
able to execute xclock
But got the same error when i try to execute ./sapinst
error "GUI not Connected......."
i wonder that in java 64 bit,the executables are located in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin/amd64/(all java executables)
but when we execute ./sapinst, it shows as it is searching the executables in /opt/j2sdk1.4.2_24/bin
i don't know if that matters.
but just want to let you know that, i was able to get the sapinst gui, when pointing to java1.6 version, but unfortunatly sap won't support above java1.5.
path of java1.6 executables - /usr/jdk/jdk1.6../bin/(all java executables)
Please help me resolving this issue. -

Migration from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64
Hi,
In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor. I need clarification for below mentioned points.
1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Also, please let me know the steps to be followed for the activity mentioned above.
Regards,
Ranjith> In our organisation, we are planning to migrate from AIX6.1 to Solaris x64. The processor which we'll be using is UltraSPARC+IV processor.
Well - I think you're mixing a few things up here.
Solaris x64 refers to Solaris on the Intel or the AMD processor (x64 == x86_64 == AMD64)
UltraSPARC IV+ refers to a CPU developed by Sun (now Oracle).
> 1. Which guide to refer for moving the SAP System from AIX6.1 to Solaris
There are no specific guides for OS migrations. You use the heterogeneous system copy approach. However, migrating a database and/or operating system requires a certified migration consultant on-site doing the migration. If you do it yourself you'll loose support from SAP for problems during the migration and for the target system (see http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration).
> 2. Is UltraSPARC+IV processor is supported for Oracle 10g
Yes. Solaris 10 on SPARC Is supported.

Card with trigger event and hardware counter?
want to have a card with fuctions:
1) trigger an event by an external elec-photo sensor.( need 2 on the card)
2) hardware counter (count optic encoder signal pulse, 0-200hz) .
is there a card like this ?
or even 2 seperate cards?
thanksHi zy9,
Thank you for posting to the NI forums. For a specific device recommendation, please post back with the following information.
1. Type of event being triggered
2. Output range of the photo-sensor
3. Output range of the optic encoder
Our Multifunction DAQ Devices (M Series) will probably be your best option. These include analog and digital triggering as well as two 32-bit counters for your encoder signal.
In addition to the M Series devices’ product pages, you can also use our DAQ product selector to find a good match for your application. It will allow you to narrow down your search results by selecting specific functions that the device must have.
I hope this helps! Please post back if you have more information or any further questions.

Solaris x64 install (wan boot / flash archive)
Hi,
I need to install a Solaris x64 on a x2200m2, it's the first Sun machine on that network, no boot server or jumpstart server around.
I am thinking to use wan boot on x64, but it seems that wan boot only support sparc platform, is that true?
the other way i want to do is to make a bootable dvdrom with flash archive in it. anyone have experience on that?
dkThere is actually a Sun blueprint for creating a boot DVD with flash archive integrated.
I don't have it handy; but it covers the basics.

R Distribution 2.15.1 for Solaris x64
Hi,
I have tried to install the R Distribution for Solaris x64 on my test box (as preparation to production upgrade).
My release is vanilla Solaris10 u10 (per readme file for the R distribution):
Oracle Solaris 10 8/11 s10x_u10wos_17b X86
I have received following errors (in fact there are over 30k lines with errors, all "same") during installation:
./install.sh

Despite the errors i did extract supporting libraries to $LD_LIBRARY_PATH and to my surprise i was able to start R without an error:
ROracle Distribution of R version 2.15.1 (2012-06-22) -- "Roasted Marshmallows"
Copyright (C) 2012 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing
ISBN 3-900051-07-0
Platform: x86_64-pc-solaris2.10 (64-bit)
I don't understand what those errors received during installation mean. What could be a reason for? A fix?
Do you think i could safely ignore them?
Any help much appreciated.
Regards,
PS. I have a flash of enlightenment. Are those <svrtech> and <aime> in error messages a group and an user name of the account the package was prepared with (or something like that)??

I did follow rest of installation procedure (installed supporting libraries for R, and then ORE Server and ORE supporting libraries) and everything works fine, so far.
I am just cautious before deploying in production.

Veritas Cluster Server on Solaris x64
Hi All,
We're trying to configure VCS to failover SCS. However, when we bring SCS up via VCS it starts the instance, but VCS doesn't seem to reconize that the instance is up. Therefore after a bit, VCS thinks the instance is not up and tries to failover to the second node.
We have seen that there is a SAP agent for VCS on Solaris sparc, but can't find one for x64.
Does anybody know of an agent for x64, or has anybody configured a standard resource type for SCS in VCS?
Any help will be greatly apreciated.Wow!
Well luckily we managed to work something out with the stardard "App" resource type in VCS. We monitor whether our SCS instance is up by monitoring the following processes:
en.sap<SID>_SCSxx pf=/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_SCSxx_vhostname
ms.sap<SID>_SCSxx pf=/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/profile/<SID>_SCSxx_vhostname
<SID> = System ID
xx = SCS instance number
vhostname = the hostname of the virtual ip used for the cluster group.
Hope this helps somebody in the future. -
