/etc/rc.d/network, why?

I have a pretty complicated network setup on my pc. 7 interfaces total. What is the advantage to me of using the arch native network daemon? There are 4 different files which hold my network configuration, and whenever I edit them I always have the urge to ditch the network profiles thing and create my own net_up and net_down routines as shell scripts.
Is this a bad idea? Does the network daemon exist for any reason other than ease of configuration?

7 interfaces??!?!? What are you using those for? Just curiosity. I've got 2 - one for internet entrance and the second acting as NAT gateway...
[/offtopic]
Hooray a chance to brag!
2 interfaces for wireless card, one connected to internet, the other in monitor mode.
1 interface for other wireless card providing internet to other person in the house.
1 interface for wired ethernet
1 interface for virtualbox
1 bridge interface to bridge virtualbox, wired and "other" wireless
1 local (lo)
At home 4 people are using internet so the connection takes a rather strange mode:
1) It wired ethernet enters my pc
2) NAT leaves my PC
3) NAT enters wireless router
4) 3 other people connect to the wireless router
I do that rather complicated thing, because I want my IP address to host an apache server and games on WarCraft III and I find port forwarding more complicated.
And why do you have one wireless in monitor mode? It would make sence if it were on laptop and you moved arround to aircrack-ng networks, but at home I can't think of any way it to be useful?

  • /etc/rc./network can not start broadcom device

    Hey all, first post.
Loving Arch linux, used Redhat since back in the 6.0 days, then Fedora core 2-4, then Ubuntu. Tried all sorts of smaller distros, but I think Arch is a winner. Anywho onto the question.
I have a Broadcom Card. I am using bcm43xx-fwcutter with the file linked onto the wiki. I want to get my IP via DHCP.
I have noticed however that whenever I use iwconfig <interface> essid <essid>, I can not be assigned an IP address, but I can ping my network. If I use iwconfig <interface> essid any, it will work. But only if I let my system stand for a few minutes after booting, or restarting /etc/rc.d/network. Here is some basic info

Yes, my wireless device ie eth1 and not wlan0. Not sure why, but it has always been this way.
On boot, or trying to start the network, the broadcom device times out on DHCP. After a few minutes, I can manually do it
    iwconfig eth1 essid any
    dhclient eth1
Here is my rc.d networking section. eth0 is a wired device, but my computer is almost always wireless, so I dont want the network script timing out every time, trying to DHCP from the non existent cat5.

Any thoughts on how to get the network script working properly? I will be leaving town on work, and need to leave my computer with the girlfriend. There is no way she is going to be able to manually start the network everytime its needed.

  • New /etc/conf.d/network network configuration does not work.

I did some work to upgrade my system configuration according to
    this wiki article: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Rc.conf
But when i move the network configuration from rc.conf to
conf.d/network, my network is left unconfiguered after boot.
    My /etc/conf.d/network looks like this:
    interface=eth0
    address=172.20.247.67
    netmask=255.255.254.0
    broadcast=172.20.247.255
    gateway=172.20.246.1
Possibly related, /etc/resolv.conf is replaced after boot with this content:
    # Generated by dhcpcd
    # /etc/resolv.conf.head can replace this line
    # /etc/resolv.conf.tail can replace this line
and therefore, my nameserver configuration is gone. This also happens,
when i leave the network configuration to rc.conf. It happens, since i
fiddled with rc.conf, but i don't no why.
I have not yet switched to systemd because of these problems.

Read up here on how to set up your static IP.  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dh … IP_address    Dhcpcd doesn't use your /etc/conf.d/network by default

  • /etc/rc.d/network: bash script: how to find out, if there was an error

    hello!
i want to write a bash script for my wireless lan. for this i need the information, if the network daemon has connected successfully or failed.
but there is a big problem: starting network success' every time, whether there was an error or not:
    $ /etc/rc.d/network start
:: Starting network profile: 00wlan_home [BUSY]
Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; No such device.
    [FAIL]

can someone help me please? how can i realize  that "::Starting Network ..." also fails and the script returns an exit status 1?
thanks for your help, maybe we can improve the script. but i'm not a geek in bash!

try using netcfg to start the wireless profile, that should keep you happy until the new network scripts are unleashed... which won't have this problem.

  • How to create a cube/ods/infoobjects etc..and also  why to create the same

    Dear Friends
how to create a cube/ods/infoobjects etc..and also  why to create the same objects.
    thanks & Regards
    Ramana

    Hi Friend,
    Creating Infoobjects
    1. Go to RSA1 -> Modelling tab.
    2. Click on Infobjects.
    3. Create a new Infoarea.
    4. Now create Infoobject Catalog for Characterstics and Key Figures.
    5. Now create Char Infoobject under Char Catalog and Key figure Infoobject under Key Figure catalog.
    Creating Cubes:
    1. Right click the info area and choose create info cube.
    2. Select the type of cube you wish to create and comnfirm your selections.
    3. The next screen is where you actually define the cube.
    4. Now you will notice the difference.
    5. Place your cursur on key fig and right click and chose infio object direct input; chose your key fig for the cube.
    6. Similarly for the dimension; right click the dimension and chose inbfo object direct input, chose your chars and out them in dimension.
    7. Activate the cube.
Creating a ODS is also the same.(in step 1 choose create ODS)
    Creating Multicube/Multiprovider
    1. Right click the info area - chose create multi provider.
    2. select the cubes , DSOs, info objects that you need for the multi provider.
    3. On the right side of the screen, you will see all the objects that you selected and open the key fig and dimension and drag the ones you need to define the multi provider.
    4. Identify the chars and key figs.
    5. Acvitate the mullti provider.
    Why we create them ?
Infobjects : They are fields in R/3. As we require fields in R/3 tables we require infoobjects in BI.
ODS : This actually is like a table in R/3.
Cube : This contain the Key figures.(e.g Sales quantity, Amount etc)
    Hope it helps.

wifi extender will not hook up to network, why?

Unfortunately, your post provided very little information for us to begin to troubleshoot your issue. We only know as much about your issue as you can tell us.
What is the model number of the AirPort Extreme?
What is the model number of the AirPort Express?
    Which device will extend which?
Will the extender connect using a wired Ethernet connection, or connect wirelessly?
What operating system are you using on your Mac or PC?

You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money..

  • All config files in /etc are empty. Why and how to fix?

Configuration files in /etc are all empty. I first noticed this when I was not able to sudo. I enabled root user and copied the sudoers~orig to sudoers. After, I noticed all the other files were empty as well. I copied over the ~orig version. Why is this happening?
    The following files were empty:
    afpovertcp.cfg
    csh.cshrc
    csh.login
    csh.logout
    ftpusers
    mail.rc
    named.conf
    bashrc
    passwd
    ssh_config
    prifle
    sshd_config
    networks
    master.passwd
I copied all the ~orig version of the files back to repopulate the default configurations.

After restoring the files it hasn't happened again. I really don't want to re-install again if I can. If the files don't erase themselves by tomorrow morning and after a few restarts, I won't re-install.

  • Airport Express will not allow any downloads over the network, why is this and what can I do to fix it?

I own an Apple Airport Express station. I am attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the airport is hooked into the network via ethernet cord. While the first few months of operation have gone smoothly for this router, over the last few weeks any and all downloads have failed to complete over the airport. I moved outside and used the official University's wifi and the downloads worked, meaning it's not a UNC network problem (to my knowledge). All file types affected include song downloads through iTunes, app downloads on my iPhone, software downloads like Google Chrome, Finale, Microsoft Word updates, etc. I have tried this on both my Lenovo with Windows 7 and my Macbook Pro to troubleshoot hardware problems and it doesn't work on either of them. I have restored the router to factory settings twice now and still it does not work. Sorry for the length of this, just wanted to pass along as much info as I could.

The fact that you can access all downloads while the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is not directly attached to the University's network indicates that the University's IT department may not allow downstream routers connected to their network without first registering it with them. This is often the case, and it is not uncommon that most universities do not allow you to do so in the first place. I would suggest that you start by contacting your IT department to see if this is allowed, and if so, they should be able to assist you with the proper configuration of your AX.

Like the previous poster indicated: try to find a minimal example that shows the error your experiencing.
One thing that seems bogus is the Server.listener() method. For one thing, it can increment x even if no new connection has been established (e.g., x will be incremented if an exception is caught).

  • Overload, disk too slow etc far too often, why?

I would like to know how to prevent this happening, it is an all too familiar occurrence in Logic.
I have trialled some large projects in Logic to check performance and it seems that they are only using up to 28% of CPU, so how can a project of this size overload the system?
I use mostly midi, which keeps projects pretty small. I have tried freezing and protecting tracks but this makes 0 difference to CPU use.
    Is this a RAM issue?
I have even had this issue on my macbook pro which has 4GB RAM 2.4GHZ CPU. Quite embarrassing live when a backing stops half way!
Is there a way to rid Logic of these problems, or is it just an unstable platform?

I disagree with the above poster... 3G of RAM is not really enough to warrant turning off VM in EXS (which you do, BTW, by going to Options > Virtual Memory right in the EXS's front panel). But again, I wouldn't.
Question... are you using a lot of plugins on each channel strip? In a similar vein, have you selected some (or many) of your sounds by loading up channel strip presets which might be pre-programmed with EQ and Reverb right in the channel strip?
Also, re live stuff, have you optimized your rig for live performance? On a side note, is it really necessary for you to run virtual instruments live? Couldn't you bounce them all down to stereo (or a few stems) and run that instead? See, there are a million things that could be going wrong with your system (or your approach to setting up a live playback system) which would account for why you're getting overload messages, etc. The best way to alleviate the entire problem is to commit your tracks to audio and be done with it.

I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs can not be renamed.  If you no longer use the .mac or .me email address be sure to add your valid email address as an additional email address.

  • Extending Network why such differences in computer speeds?

Have airport extreme.  Added an airport express to extend range of network.  Checked speeds with speednet.  Speed 15mbps with macbook computer near extreme.  2 mbps for mb pro near right near airport express.  Any thoughts on why this would be happening?  Or does extending the range of the network by adding another router, slow down the network that much?  Thank you for your help.

The tool is your Mac laptop, AirPort Utility, and pen and paper.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click on a device on the left and look for information about that device on the right side of the window. Write down the name of the device and the AirPort ID number. Do the same for other devices on the network.
Turn off the wireless on your Mac and then move it very close to the remote "extending" device.
Turn the wireless on the Mac by clicking on the fan shaped AirPort icon at the top of the screen
Hold down the option key on the Mac while you click on the AirPort icon and you will see information displayed about the current connection
Look for the BSSID. That number should match the AirPort ID of the "extending" device if your configuration is correct.
If the BSSID matches the AirPort ID of the "main" router, your Mac is connecting to the "main" router and there is a a problem with the "extend" setup.

  • My iPad and iphone both can't connect to my network. why?

both iPad and iPhone fail to connect to my n etwork. they both 'see' it and ask for password but when i put this in they say they cant connect. Why?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
