Ethernet not working on slimline desktop

Question

Hello. I have an HP Pavillion Slimline S5310y
I had a power surge a few weeks ago and the PSU burned up. I replaced it with ATHENA AP-MTFX-30 and it powers on fine and everything works. However, I could not connect to the internet. It connects using a basic connection but it doesn't seem to be able to connect to my FIOS internet. The ethernet cable appears fine and the light is green where it is plugged in and shows a connection on the modem. I thought maybe that the computer needed to be restored. I did a restore back to factory settings and it still does not recognize it.
I am able to open the internet explorer but I ALWAYS get an error message such as "this site could be dangerous" or something like that. I click proceed and it takes me to the page. However, I am unable to stream videos or download chrome or anything else. I get an error message saying I am not connected to the internet. It's very strange.
Does anyone have suggestions please? I'm at a loss here. Thank you for your help.

Hello again headdoc,
Thank you for the information you have provided it actually helped rule out a lot. I would like you to follow the instructions below if you could:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Click on Command Prompt
Step 3. Type "ping www.hp.com" and hit Enter
Step 4. Now I would like you to record the IP Address that is being pinged
Step 5. Type "ping <enter the ip address from Step 5) and hit Enter
Were both pings successful? If not, I would like you  to flush your DNS. You can do this by following the steps I have set out below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. At the command prompt, type "ipconfig /flushdns"
Was this successful? If not, I would like you to  reset the TCP/IP stack. To do this follow the next set of steps I have set out below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Command Prompt"
Step 3. Right-click Command Prompt
Step 4. Click Run as administrator
Step 5. Type "netsh winsock reset catalog" and hit Enter
Step 6. Type "netsh int ip reset reset.log" and hit Enter
Step 7. Restart your computer
Next, if none of the above works I would like you to try to Install Windows updates in Windows 7. I would recommend you ensure all updates are done.
Next I would like you to try the next set of steps I have set out for you below:
Step 1. Click the Start button
Step 2. In the search box, type "Windows Explorer"
Step 3. Click on Windows Explorer
Step 4. In the Address bar at the top try to stream a video or download Google Chrome
Next, if nothing has worked we are going to try using Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7) to restore your computer back to a point in time before this issue arose. This will not affect any personal files you have on your computer, but it will affect any settings you have changed or applications you have installed since the time you go back to. These will have to be re-done once we are finished.
Lastly, If we still have the issue we are at the point where we need to use the HP Support document: Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7) to back up your personal files. Once we have done this successfully I would like you to review and follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7), which will walk you through restoring your computer back to factory.
***NOTE: This will destroy everything on your computer so make sure you have backed up everything you wish to keep.
As this will completely replace ALL your software on your computer this should resolve your issue. Please re-post if you require additional support. Thank you again for posting on the HP Forums. Have a wonderful day!
