Ethernet to Server to AE configuration

Hi,
I'm trying to configure MacOSX Server using NAT as I have one fixed IP and about 6 clients to connect (wirelessly). The server software is already installed, so I am trying to add a server and to configure it to serve a wireless network provided by an Airport Extreme (A/E). I have read the manuals, "Getting Started v10.6.pdf" and "Network_Services_Admin_v10.6.pdf", yet I find I cannot connect to the Internet. What am I doing wrong? Here's what I have done....
I am doing everything locally. I follow "Network_Services_Admin_v10.6.pdf" on page 133 "Linking a LAN to the Internet Through One IP Address" I connect the ethernet to port 1 (en0) on my server. I then connect my A/E to en1. I begin by setting up the A/E with Airport Utilities to provide a wireless network. I have Sys. Preferences open and it tells me that ethernet 1 (en0) has a self assigned IP address (ok), same with en1 and en2. I then need to change the settings on ethernet 1 (en0). I choose to configure manually and I enter the fixed IP into the box, 137.x.x.x, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, router  192.168.1.1
(I am only sure about the IP address here, why I need a router number makes no sense to me. I am only going by the fact that there is normally a router number in the Network pane when I am connected to the internet with my own computer). Anyway, I go ahead and start Server Admin, I 'add server' name.com (again I'm guessing this is the right form to go here and not name.local or something else). I then sit back and wait for the serial number to appear. I then save and connect to the server. I then navigate to "services" and see everything box is ticked, so I expand the arrow beside name.com and click NAT...I follow the manual...so I choose ethernet 1 as my WAN gateway, then Ethernet 2 as my LAN (I think this is correct although I had my doubts since I have the A/E connected to Ethernet 2 and this will eventually be what the clients wil connect to). So I could chose both Ethernet 2 and Airport as my LAN but I just stick to the manual and pick ethernet 2. It then does its thing and back over in Sys Preferences both Ethernet ports are reporting being connected. Ethernet 1 has the fixed IP I gave it, Ethernet 2 has gone from DHCP to manual and it has configured itself with a 192.x.x.x address...all seems ok. The Airport also has a 192.x.x.x address.
Somehow I have gone wrong?...No internet. Have I left out a router number? The subnet mask numbers are different for ethernet 1 and 2; should they be the same? Is there something else I am overlooking. I have checked the firewall, which is reporting it is on?
I'm lost...:(

When I start up Server Admin and want to add a server I am asked for an address, username and password. Is the address the full public address as in example.place.com or just example.local?
You can use any hostname or IP address that maps to this server. You can use its .local hostname too - any of them should work.
Does it matter in what order I set things up?
Sort of.
Changing the IP address of a server in production is a PITA, so spend some time to get that right first before you start configuring services.
Should I setup the Airport (in bridge mode) first, then the Network Preferences en0 (DHCP with manual address), then start Server Admin and let NAT do everything else?
You're setting this up in the 'wrong' way - the right way is to use the base station as your gateway but if you really, truly, absolutely have to use the Mac as the gateway then so be it, but I'd really explore that option first - it will be easier and more secure to use the base station as the gateway. So if that really is the case:
Ignore the base station. it's irrelevant at this point.
Connect the wall socket to en0
Configure the server en0 with the public address (137.x.x.x/255.255.255.0) with the router address as provided by the network admins
Connect en1 to one of the LAN ports on the AirPort Extreme
Configure en1 with the LAN address (192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0). Since you're not routing over this interface, just using NAT there is no need to set a router address (even though Server Assistant may complain)
Configure the base station with a LAN address (192.168.x.x/255.255.255.0) with the router address set to the Mac's LAN address.
Configure the base station to be a simple wireless bridge (not a router)
Now you can enable the NAT service on the server.
Nowhere, ever, at any time will you ever, ever use DHCP with Manual Addressing. Ever.
Now you can connect the other LAN devices to either the additional LAN ports on the base station, or wirelessly. Clients can be configured either Manually (using a 192.168.x.x address) or to use DHCP to get an address from the server.

  • Ethernet Print Server Keeps iMac G5 from sleeping

    Hello All,
I have a small home network setup with a router to share my DSL Internet connection.
My iMac G5 has never had any sleep problems before. But, with the recent addition of a US Robotics Ethernet Print-Server, the iMac G5 no longer sleeps automatically.
It will sleep fine if I use the power button to sleep it. But, it will not sleep if I let the "Energy Saver" activate it.
The iMac G5 does turn off the display when it is supposed to (in the energy settings). So, it will sleep the display. Just not the computer when the Print Server is attached to the network.
If I unplug the print server from the Ethernet, then the iMac G5 sleeps just fine when the energy saver kicks in.
Further, if the time to sleep has elapsed, and the computer is still awake, then I can unplug the print server from the Ethernet and the iMac G5 will go to sleep a couple of seconds later.
Interestingly, the Mac Mini I have doesn't stay awake. It sleeps just like it is supposed to. It doesn't care if the print-server is attached or not.
The Mac Mini and the iMac G5 are both configured to communicate with the Print Server. It uses AppleTalk to share my printer (a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5mp).
The iMac G5 is running OS X "Tiger" 10.4.3 and is updated to the current level (all updates). The Mac Mini is running OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 with all the available updates installed.
The system specs are all in my footer below my message.
    Any ideas?
It is obviously the print-server keeping my system awake. If I un-plug it from the network then everything behaves perfectly normal.
Is there a setting somewhere to keep the iMac G5 system from listening to other devices on the network somewhere?
There is no bi-directional setting in the Print-Server. So, that shouldn't be the issue (plus the Mac Mini doesn't care).
The Print Server is a U.S. Robotics USR7500 Ethernet Print Server.
The website for my Print Server is at:
    http://www.usr.com/products/networking/networking-product.asp?sku=USR7500
Hopefully there is a setting somewhere that I can adjust in OS X Tiger to fix this.
The Wake on LAN setting is not turned on. So that's not it.
I also just checked, and the scheduled sleep will work. So, it is just the "inactivity" setting that is giving me trouble.
Like I said though, if I unplug the Ethernet Print-Server, then everything works exactly as it should.
I'll look forward to any ideas you might be able to offer.

    Update:
    Hello All,
I found out what was causing the machine to not sleep.
My built-in Firewall was configured to block UDP communications.
I discovered, quite by chance, that the Print Server was sending a UDP signal to my Mac every 30 seconds or so. I have no idea why, especially since the Print Server should be a receiver not a sender.
As an experiment, I disabled UDP blocking in the FireWall, and my machine went to sleep just like it should.
Any ideas as to why the Print Server would be sending a UDP signal?
Here's an excerpt from my firewall log:
===== Display starts at offset 196869 within file of length 327941. ====
    ===== Use File->Reload (Cmd-R) to display more. ====

and it keeps going like that for 12 hours or so.
The print server is setup to allow for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and AppleTalk communication.
I'd like to hear any ideas as to how to get rid of this UDP so I can re-enable the blocking feature in the Firewall.
I do need to keep features enabled that are required to allow my wife's portable PC with Windows XP to print to the server as well.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Lion Server Profile Manager Configuration

    Hi Guys,
Currently have been testing Lion Server and Profile Manager Configuration.
    So Far Have setup
Lion with Server App and Server Admin Tools
Configured Open Directory Master and enabled SSL on LDAP
Once Configured OD has created a CA Certificate can use for Profile Manager
Have Enabled in Server.app Web and Profile manager
In SSL Certificate Configuration have set CA Certificate for Web and Enabled Apple push notifications with my apple ID
In Profile Manager Enabled Device Management and Enabled Sign configuration profiles and selected CA Open Directory Certificate Created when setting up OD Master.
On Server Originally could install Trust Profile OK and Enroll Server OK with no issues, but on any other 10.7 Devices could install Trust Profile OK but would always say unsigned and Enroll would never work or just hang.
Now Since Played around with settings on 10.7 Server can no longer enroll but trust OK.
    Questions have is
For SSL and Profile Manager to work properly as well as Certificates do you require to purchase a proper SSL Certificate or can we use the OD Master Certificate that gets created. All we are testing is on the Local LAN so don't want to get a SSL certificate from the internet.
Also why cannot 10.7 clients trust profile and enroll Devices Properly? How do I get this working properly?
    Any ideas?
    Regards,
    Shane

Not sure if its that as finally got Lion Server working on a VM setup so network shouldn't be an issue...
Had 1 OSX Lion Server VM and 1 OSX Lion Client VM and OSX Lion Server VM gets profile and enrolls device fine but again OSX client doesn't get enroll just sits again at installing..... even if set keychain to trust and make trust profile verified..
any other ideas? I think need to somehow get the server to trust trust profile by default instead of going to keychain all the time.

Did you get this to work in an ESXI envrionment? If so, which version are you running?

You'll be getting this in your case update (answer in response to the internal conversation we've been having about your issue)
So if they really want to control wildcard searches then they should look in the "personalstore.properties" file for the domain (default: /var/opt/SUNWuwc/WEB-INF/domain/personalstore.properties) for the value of "db.idir.wildcardsearch". Its possible settings are documented in the comments. If they wish to disable all "*" and "*x*" searches (i.e. turn off the 'All' and selecting a letter options) they should set the value to at least 2.

  • Add new Oracle VM 3.0.2 server & network, SAN configuration

    Hi,
I'm installing an Oracle VM 3.0.2 cluster with 4 Oracle VM servers.
The cluster has been installed with 2 servers, the network has been configured (3 VM Network and 1 admin network).
The storage has been configured, some VM has been created.
And live migration has been realized.
    Perfect
When i'm connecting on the server, I can see the network configuration on linux (bridge, vlan, etc...), storage (pool and repository,)
Now, i have two other servers and i'm installing one with Oracle VM Server 3.0.2.
The installation is OK, i discovered the server in oracle VM Manager without problem.
When I'm adding the servers in the pool, the operation is successfull, and now I have a pool with 4 servers.
In Oracle VM Manager, i can see these new servers in Network, VLAN Groups tabs, Storage Arrays.
But, on the server, the network configuration is not configured, I don't have the configuration like other server.
    No bridge, no new vlan.
And the ocfs2 repository filesystem is not mounted.
    And I don't know why
Do you have any idea ?

We fixed a bug in 3.0.3 where the networks are not created on the new server correctly. 3.0.3 is busy being uploaded to the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud, so it should be available in a few days. In 3.0.3 we automatically configure the network on-the-fly as guests that require each network component are started.I have upgrade to 3.0.3 :
    - the Oracle VM Manager
    - these 2 servers already in the pool
    - and the new server
I add it in the pool, and the network are not configured.
I make an new install from scratch of the new server, and same problem.
I create a new VLAN segment in the pool, and this segment is configured on all servers, including the new one.
I copied the network configuration from a active server on the new server
    I rediscover the server
Ok, the 3.0.3 seem to be available on Oracle Delivery, i will download it as soon as possible.
The repository needs to be presented to the new server that's joined the pool. Can you explain me ?I find the present/unpresent repository on the repository tab, it's ok now.
Now I can migrate a VM to the new server, all works fine.
I'm waiting the last server to be available (san connection problem).
I will see if the problem is the same.
    Best regards

  • InDesign Server Installation and Configuration Guide

    Hi everybody
I try to ask one silly Q.
Where can I get this document.
I found many references but no link :(

There is no document titled "InDesign Server Installation and Configuration Guide". This was an error in the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server.
You'll find the CS2 version of Introduction to InDesign Server in the InDesign Server CS2 ESD (the server download bundle). Even better you'll find the CS3 version in the InDesign CS3 Server SDK. Available at the following URL:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/
The information about Java/CORBA is specific to CS3, but the information about scripting and SOAP applies to CS2.
Let me know if that helps, or you still need something else.

  • Is it possible to delete message in the server using Mail configured using IMAP?

Is it possible to delete message in the server using Mail configured using IMAP?
Currently when I delete the message in Mail, the server still keep a copy of it, which means it is not deleted on the server. I know that POP can do this but I still want the option of being able to access it from other computers.
My server has only a small size, so I hope that I can just delete it from my Mail instead of having to log in to the server and delete it again.
    Thank you.

Yes, but doing so will remove it from everything else.

  • Indesign CS6 Server: Multiple instance configured, just one random instance come up?!

    Hello everyone,
we have a problem with our Indesign server. It is configured to run as service on a Windows 2008 R2. We configured one instance with the management snap - that worked well. So we decided to add more instances and now the problems start: If I start the indesign server service all configured instances come up as process. But only a random one comes up able to process jobs. The other instances are dead - they don't even open a port. And I could see that the dead instances take hardly memory (ca. 50MB). The working instance takes ca. 260MB RAM directly after launching the service. What we are doing wrong?
As you can see the instance with the PID 7832 takes a lot more RAM - thats the working instance. I checked with "netstat -an" for the ports 4711-4714 - just port 4713 was open.
Thanks for your help and Regards from Germany

  • Connected to internet via ethernet but server not responding

I have browsed some threads on this topic but none gave me an answer, and my set up is not quite the same as those that I've read. I don't want to hijack another thread and confuse the readers. I would be very grateful for help on this issue.
I have connected a G3 imac to a G5 imac with ethernet cable and both are configured for file sharing following the instrauctions on this help site. Both machines communicate and file sharing is okay.
Now I want to share the dial-up internet connection of the G3 with G5 over this ethernet connection. I have configured both machines following instructions on this site. At the moment file and web sharing is enabled on both machines.
In sharing preferences/internet internet sharing is turned on on the host (the one connected to the internet)
In sharing/firewall personal web-sharing is checked on both machines
In built-in-ethernet/TCP/IP config IPv4 is off on both, although i have tried it with IPv4 set to using DHCP on the host, and then on both
    No proxies are set
I have tried it with Appletalk both on and off on both machines
In network status internal modem is at the top of the list on the host and ethernet is at the top on the guest and both say that they are connected to the internet. The ethernet appears as connected to the internet with green light even when the host computer is not connected to the internet.
Yesterday I was able to browse using IE in windows XP running on virtual PC on the guest (G5) but this is the only time it's worked and I don't know what i did for that to happen. I only wanted to run a software activation on the G5 but the message unable to establish a connection appears.
I followed the help in virtual PC to share the Macs internet connection with windows, but havn't been able to connect to internet using the browsers on the OS X system. Tried altering browser preferences as well with no joy.
Everything works fine on the G3
I don't know where to go next.

  • Windows Server 2012 The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured

    Hi
I have a standard Windows Server 2012 that is hosted in the cloud by a hosting provider -
This server has been up and running fir 6 months - recently we have been getting a warning
"The licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host server is not configured" - The Remote Desktop Session Host server is within its grace period, but the RD Session Host server has not been configured with any license server.
Yet, we only use this with 2 connections as part of the standard licence agreement and this server is not used as a user's desktop only an ftp and web server- do therefore we do not need to purchase any cal licences (we have another server with the same
hosting company that does not have this issue and has been up for 18months)
Please can someone advise how I resolve this issue, the hosting company states that I must resolve it as they only host and resell the server licence
    Thank-you
    Richard Steele

    Hi Richard,
You need to uninstall Remote desktop session host feature. After removing it, you will default two connections which does not need to purchase RD CALs'.

  • Why will sync not synchronize my information between devices after saying that the server was incorrectly configured and then saying that my password was incorrect?

I've recently started having this issue within the last few days. I started getting error messages saying that the sync server was incorrectly configured.
So I reset my sync data and then attempted to re-establish connectivity between my devices. Sync is now saying that my password is incorrect. I've reset my password twice and after each password reset I am getting the same error message saying that my password is incorrect. I should note that both times I double checked the password entry to rule out any fat-fingering lol.
Does anybody have any other information about this? I am wondering if a reinstall of Firefox will be necessary...thanks for any help you can provide! (:

It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

  • The server isn't configured correctly

    I have an Ipad1 with iOS 4.3.3.
I have a problem with the on-line videos (youtube - app and web - and other pages). My Ipad can't play videos greater than five or six minutes, and shows a pop-up window with the error "The server isn't configured correctly".
    Has anyone had this problem?
    Regards.

    Nobody can help me?
Someone know how I can configure the server?
    Thanks for your help.
