Ethernetsubinterface indirect link failure direct connected subnet

Hello. Given the following topology:
R1#SW1-----
           |
          SW3--Host
          SW4--Host
           |
R2#SW2-----
R1  and R2  are connected via an Ethernet dot1q Trunk to SW1/SW2. On  SW1/SW2 there're static access ports which connects to SW3/SW4. SW3 is  connected to SW4 via Trunk.
SW1/SW2 and SW3/SW4 are under different administration.
The  following problem: R1 and R2 are member of the same IPv4 /25 Network.  That means the subinterface on R1 uses 1.0.0.1/25 and R2 uses  1.0.0.2/25. The Hosts are also Members of this network.
The  following Problem: If the Link SW1 to SW3 fails, the Subinterface on R1  will remain up and R1 will send traffic to the network 1.0.0.0/25 to  SW1 where the traffic will be dropped. The same situation if the link  SW2-SW4 fails.
Are  there any possibilites to automatically shutdown the subinterface on R1  or R2, so that the directly connected route will be removed?
R1/R2 use IOS XR
On R1 & R2 there`s  HSRP configured to provide a redundant gateway to the hosts

OK, for any of you reading this post...
I am operational and really not sure how, however I believe this was the problem:
1) I was using smb://xxx.xxx.x.x/pccomputername and should have been using smb://xxx.xxx.x.x/pccomputerdescription
2) More importantly, I believe, connection could not be made behind *Zone Alarm* running on the PC
So after, researching more than one should about SMB, Group Policies in XP, encrypted protocols, registry changes and terminal changes...I think it was simply a 3rd party firewall.
By the way i changed my Mac to use plain text passwords to make SMB/CIFS connections using the procedure described at apple support
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1564
I really don't think that was necessary at all....Does anyone know how to cahnge it back or is it not necessary?
So, after much frustration and more than a little time...i have file sharing and internet connection...i'll worry about printers some other time
Does anyone know if you can 'share' entire hard disks or does everything need to be in a folder? Can you access those via shortcuts and aliases?
Any way....done, and hope this info helps the knowledge base...

  • 2610 has no route for directly connected?

Well I've powered up my 2610 (Router Z) and connected it via Ethernet crossover to one of my old 2501's (Router A). The addresses are 10.3.3.1/24 (A) and 10.3.3.26(Z). Router Z has CDP neighborship with Router A and Router A responds to a broadcast ping from Z. But when I try telnet or a unicast ping from Z to 10.3.3.1, nothing happens. (Making Eth0/0 the gateway of last resort at least fixes that, but I don't think I should have to resort to that just to get to a directly connected subnet.)
    System image file is "flash:c2600-i-mz.120-3.T3"
Is what I'm seeing normal behavior? 2600's won't automatically have a route for directly connecteds?

    Seth
No, all routers should have entries for directly connected routes.
Are your subnet masks consistent. Have you tried an extended ping from Z with source IP in 10.3.3.x network - yes i know it should work anyway.

  • DB Link vs Direct Database Connection

    Hi All,
We have two database, for the purpose of this example PROD and DEV, being a production and devlopment database respectively.
We have noticed developers logging into the PROD database, doing their query development. We have asked them to do their query developement
on the DEV database. We have created a DB Link in the DEV database to the PROD database to allow them to query up-to-date data.
My question is... What is the performance benefit of a direct connection into the PROD database querying data as opposed to a connection into the DEV
database querying data on PROD using the DB Link.
    thanks
    Melvyn

    Hi..
We have noticed developers logging into the PROD database, doing their query development. We have asked them to do their query developementon the DEV database. We have created a DB Link in the DEV database to the PROD database to allow them to query up-to-date data.>
Thats very wrong. The dev team can do any thing on production and if somethings does wrong blames will be on you.SO don't provide any access to the dev team.Right now i can think of 2 options as you want to give the dev taem up-to-date data
    1. Use oracle streams. The best replication method.Go for uni-directional oracle stream replication from prod. to dev.
    2. If the dev team need to do select only on the prod. tables then create a new schema, give that schema only select privilege on main schema's table and then create the dblink from that user

  • MySQL database connection: Communications link failure Last packet sent to the server was 0 ms ago.

    Hello,
I am trying to connect to an external MySQL database from within a bundle.
But I keep getting this error:
Could not get JDBC Connection; nested exception is org.apache.commons.dbcp.SQLNestedException: Cannot create PoolableConnectionFactory (Communications link failure Last packet sent to the server was 0 ms ago.)
These are the details of my bundle:
    1)          Spring bundle(using Spring DM)
    2)          MySQL database is at port 7046 so my bean is as below:
    <bean id="dataSource" class="org.apache.commons.dbcp.BasicDataSource">
                        <property name="driverClassName" value="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" />
                        <property name="url"  value="jdbc:mysql://instance13550.db.xeround.com:7046/jas" />
                        <property name="username" value="mysql" />
                        <property name="password" value="mysql" />
    </bean>
My bundle connects to the mysql database from withina  local  felix installation. But when I put the same bundle within CQ I get the error.
    Please help.
    Karan

I dont know the answer, but if you google for this, some articles listed might help:
re: "Communications link failure Last packet sent to the server was"
Note: I use 're:' which is short for 'reply',
I think you will also be better off using preparedStatements. Dont forget to use preparedStatement.clearParameters() just before preparedStatements.setString() items in the loop
Also, I question why you need to test having 1000 test users all banging away at your application at once. Chances are, most will be staring at your web page and only a few will ever hit the update/insert button
within the same 100 milliseconds or so that your process takes to update.

  • Directly connect two N7700 via 100Gb link

    Hello,
We are using N7700 chassis with 100G line cards (N77-F312CK-26).
    Transceivers are 100GBASE-SR10 (link).
I'm wondering if it's possible to directly connect two chassis using some 24-fiber MPO cable, e.g. this one.
My most concern is about polarity issues, because aforementioned cable doesn't have a possibility to change it in-place (unlike PanMPO connectors).
P.S. I've also found this document (link), that states such configuration is possible, although the cable from another manufacturer is used.

Just received an e-mail from Panduit support:
    Panduit Response:
    Hello,
Yes, our 24F cable is capable of direct connect.  Fibers 1-12 on one end go to 13-24 on the other and 13-24 hit 1-12.
I trust that this helps clarify the situation

  • Direct connect NFS/CIFS with 1.4

I see how 1.4's appliance ports can help with direct connect multipath iSCSI. Each fabric gets a VLAN/subnet, iSCSI has multiple targets via each fabric, etc.
But I don't see how appliance ports help with direct connect NFS/CIFS. E.g.,
In this diagram, traffic from hosts active on fabric B must go over the northbound LAN to reach the NAS. Even if every host and appliance has its NIC failover configured to prefer fabric A and perform preemption, you'll still have failures like NAS NIC's and IOM's that will cause some/all NAS traffic to go across the northbound LAN. Thus, you've got one of two situations:
        1) The LAN can handle the NAS traffic. If so, why not plug the NAS into the LAN in the first place?
        2) The LAN cannot handle the traffic, in which case you haven't built real fault-tolerance and, worse, a UCS problem can impact the LAN.
Am I missing something here? How are appliance ports better than using switch mode, shown below?

Yes - you have a valid point on the traffic pattern depending on what fails etc.
Just to back up for a moment..
Version 1.3 and below has 2 types of Ethernet ports - Uplink and Server port.
Version 1.4 has 4 types of Ethernet ports - Uplink, Server, Appliance, Monitoring port
In 1.3, to directly connecting a NAS to the FI's meant that you move to switch mode on the FI's and then set the port connecting to the NAS as an uplink port. What that did is that the port connecting to the NAS was a a trunk port at the FI end allowing all VLANs (i.e no VLAN filtering), no QoS settings etc.
So if you wanted to stay in End Host mode AND not liking the above caveats, you connected the NAS to an upstream switch and not UCS and that option remains wit you today.
What the appliance port gives you now is that the VLAN(s) the NAS belongs to can be filtered, QoS settings possible and most importantly, it works in End Host Mode (most deployments are based on it).
The above is the rationale for the Appliance port and the port type was neeeded even if it works today in switch mode.
Now the question comes, appliance port in EHM or Switch mode (which is what the question is).
In EHM you are right, east-west traffic between NAS-blades could utilize the upstream network.
You can design efficiently by specifying the fabric id (A or B as primary) or set fabric affinity if using a soft switch but  guaranteed total localization (not using upstream network) cannot be made as you correctly said depending on "what" fails.
If all the uplinks on A fail, yes the whole thing should fail over but if a link between the IOM and the FI fails, then the servers pinned to that link will start using the external network.
So yes, the network needs to be designed keeping the flows and what if scenarios in mind. East-west traffic not hitting upstream at all cannot be assumed.
The long term solution is to have data links between the FI's in EHM or they are vPC peers and hence both links to the NAS from the FI's will be active/active.
Appliance port in switch mode can be used but that also depends on which links are STP blocked etc to guarantee that.
The topology you mentioned does that ..but then you also need to keep in mind on failurea what happens etc i.e the ISL between the FI's should always be forwarding for that VLAN.
    Thanks

    hi  Maximilian Schojohann..
First i would like to Thank you for showing  interest in solving my issue...After some research i found that desabling the " IP CEF" will solve the issue...when i desable i was able to communicate success fully with the router lan..But when i desable " IP CEF "  Router cpu processer goes to 99% and hangs...
In the output of " sh process cpu" it shows 65% of utilization from "IP INPUT"
so plz give me an alternate solution ....thanks in advance....

  • How can i delay the present of direct connected route?

Hi, I got 2 3550SMI switch interconnecting by Etherchannel. Each 3550 has an uplink to its upstream router (R1-SW1=SW2-R2). R1 and R2 connects to the remote site routers (say R3 and R4).
With EIGRP redistribute connected, R1 update the direct connected network via WAN link A to R3 where R2 does the same thing updating R4 via WAN link B.
The failover is fine after SW2 powered off. However, problem occured when I powered up SW2. During the bootup of SW2, there was carrier signal which brought up the ethernet port of R2 and the direct connected route presented in R2 then updating R4. Some of the traffic had started to come over from R4 via WAN link B to R2 while SW2 is still booting. (or Etherchannel was not yet ready). As a result, workstation connecting to SW1 cannot be reached for those traffic came from R4->R3->SW2.
I have tried to use "carrier-delay 60"on the ethernet port of R2. It seems solve the problem since the direct connected route delay 60sec. Within that 60 sec, no update via EIGRP from R2 to R4 so that all traffic still went through R3->R1. After that 60 sec, SW2 had already bootup and the etherchannel was also ready.
However, i can only do it with C3725 router. I've tried 1750, 25xx, 26xx and 3640-12.3T but the behavior was not expected (route still present immediately after carrier signal detected).
    My questions are:
Is that command valid on Eth or FE interface?
Is there any different using that command with diff. router series, eg. ISR (18xx,28xx,38xx)?
Is there any condition that I could make it work? (at least 3725 worked)
Is there any other way to delay the present of that direct connected route?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
instead of the 'carrier-delay' command, you could try to change the EIGRP hello and hold-time intervals (which default to 5 and 15 seconds respectively on broadcast media such as Ethernet), in order to delay EIGRP convergence. So, on your Ethernet interfaces when you use the interface commands:
    ip hello-time eigrp x 60
    ip hold-time eigrp x 180
the redistributed routes will show up only after 60 seconds, which effectively does the same as the 'carrier-delay'...
Can you try that and see if that works for you ?

  • ColdFusion 10 - MySQL Communications link failure

We are migrating some websites onto a cloud infrastructure running Windows 2008 virtual machines.  These websites all run on ColdFusion with MySQL databases.  They currently are running in our CoLo with no problems.  Additionally, they are running on our development network in our offices with no problems.
We are setting up our cloud to match as closely as possible the configuration we currently use which is, essentially, CF10 + IIS on one server and MySQL on a separate machine.  We are 99% finished and most things are running great.  However....
We have run into a couple, as in 2, places where we click a link/button and are greeted with:
    Error Executing Database Query.
Communications link failure The last packet successfully received from the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago.
Scanning the stack-trace I also find:
    `Caused by: java.net.SocketException: Connection reset`
The communications link error is ALWAYS: 0ms.
What's most puzzling is the Queries that seem to be causing this are *simple* queries that are used ALL OVER the sites with no problems.  Why they are failing at hese 2 particular places has us at wits end.
Our only clue is, looking at the CF Error description of what scripts are called, we can see the script where the query is failing is getting called twice?  For example, one of the occurences is in our Application file:
        >The error occurred in D:/Our_Web_Sites/oursite/Application.cfm: line 73
        >Called from D:/Our_Web_Sites/oursite/Application.cfm: line 17

We can find nothing in our CF code that would be causing the script to be called twice so our guess is the first call is failing on the Query so CF tries again...only to fail and error.
Googling this issue I've found lots of posts about changing the MySQL timeouts.  None of those worked and I didn't expect them to since what we're dealing with doesn't appear to be a timeout issue.  These pages fail each and every time.
The closest we've come to a solution came from this blog posting:
    http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm/2011/1/12/Validation-Query-for-MySQL-communicati ons-link-failure
If we UNCHECK the "Maintain connections across client requests. " setting in CFAdmin then the error goes away.  The blog suggests leaving that checked, which is our preference, and using Connection Validation of "SELECT 1;".  Try that...same error.
We've also tried the JDBC AutoConnect=true option.  No effect.
Downloaded latest JDBC Connector and used it instead of standard CF10-MySQL connector.  No effect.
Again, 99% of the site works with the exception of these two links, both of which work just fine in all our other environments.  Any other ideas?

    I have some questions.
    1) You talk of 2 calls. However, you show us 5 calls from Application.cfm. What do those line numbers tell us?
    2) Shouldn't that be AutoReconnect=true rather than AutoConnect=true? In any case, it seems that the problem here is that ColdFusion attempts to use a stale connection to the database. It is then usually preferable to change wait_timeout instead. The MySQL documentation says, 'Alternatively[to AutoReconnect=true], as a last option, investigate setting the MySQL server variable "wait_timeout" to a high value, rather than the default of 8 hours.'.
    3) Shouldn't you already convert to Application.cfc?

  • Cisco 6880-x vsl link failure

    Hi Guys,
I have a head scratcher that I'm dealing with.  I have 2x (2 month) 6880-x switches configured with vss with 2 vsl links on each of its sup cards and switch 1 is the active switch on the vss.  Both 6880x chassis also have 2 additional 10g modules each.  I am dealing with 2 issues in this setup.
The first issue is,  i have a 3750x with a 10g module thats port channeled to the vss with one 10g link going to each of the chassis.  Within the first 3 days it started dropping the link that's plugged to switch1, then comes back on right away.  It does it randomly throughout the day.  I have changed out the optics on both ends, changed the cable, and also changed the module on the 3750x and I still get the same issue.  The strange part is that when switch2 on the vss becomes the active switch, the problem goes away.  I did notice this before changing out the optics, cable, module on the 3750x.
The second issue is the one I'm been trying to figure out along with cisco TAC.  This started about a month after bring the vss online.  When switch1 was the active switch in the vss, every couple of days vsl links drop one at a time, eventually killing the vss and putting the standby unit into recovery mode because of the dual active detection.  once I reboot the standby switch, the vss comes back up normally.  it did this a couple of times until I decided to force switch2 to be the active switch on the vss.  when switch2 became active, the vss was stable for about a month then the vsl links died again, and the system failed over to switch1.  after looking at the logs with cisco tac, we see that the vsl links stop responding which causes the failover, but up until now we still can't determine what is causing the vsl links to fail.  cisco tac said that maybe the vsl links were being overloaded but we have been monitoring the bandwidth utilization on the vsl links and they never go beyond 1% utilization.  The last suggestion by cisco tac was to add another vsl link but through another module other than the sup.  This was done a couple of days ago so now i'm waiting to see if the vsl links fail again and since switch1 is the active switch on the vss, i'm having to deal with the first issue above with the 3750x.
I've included some log entries from the dropped port-channel member and also logs for when the vsl links fail.
Logs for 3750x port-channel member drops.

so according to the logs, it seems like the switch was reloaded or something of the nature but even the cisco tac said that it wasnt the case but couldnt determine whats causing it either.  Tac went through the config on the vss and has said that its configured correctly.
Maybe someone else has experienced this issue or if someone can point out something that I can look at...  sorry for the very long post.
    thanks

I suppose, we have the same problem. Only when Switch 1 is the active switch of the 6880-X VSS system, the connection to the FEX-stack breaks suddenly after running fine for some days and the FEX-stack (3 x 6800-IA) get only ready again when I reset the whole VSS-system, both VSS-switches and the FEX-stack.
All access ports at the FEX can't connect to our infrastructure (DHCP,DNS...). The two connected TenG FEX-stack uplinks sometimes get down and sometimes only the uplink to the active parent switch get down. The SYST LED of FEX 1 lighting amber.
When parent switch 2 is the active unit the issue never occured.
    6880-X running with 15.2(1)SY, 6800-IA running with 15.2(3)E.
Cisco TAC is investigating that issue, but till now without any result.
When the issue occurs, the recorded logging messages are:

  • Communcation link failure with HS ODBC to AS/400  (v4r3)

    HI all,
i have problem when using Heterogeneous Service to connect Oralce to DB2/400 in AS/400 (v4r3).
I am using HS's ODBC to connect to DB2/400 in AS/400.
    1) first I created a DSN with name AS400 and driver "Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)"
    2) then configured HS in %ORACLE_HOME%/hs/admin/initodbc.ora
    3) modified listener.ora as well as tnsnames.ora
    4) restarted the listener and Oracle.
    5) then I created the database link for this service.
    create database link as400
connect to "USER" identified by "PASSWRD"
using 'as400';but when I tried to select something from DB2/400. i encountered the following error
select count(*) from grw99.sitsupp@as400ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
[Generic Connectivity Using ODBC][IBM][Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)]
    [DB2/400 SQL]Communication link failure. COMM RC=0x5 (SQL State: 08S01; SQL Code: -5)
ORA-02063: preceding 2 lines from HSODBC
    can anyone tell me why?!!
    pls help me!
    Marco

Sounds like the IBM SQLExtendedFetch bug within the IBM ODBC driver.
Please add these parameters to your DG4ODBC configuration file initDB2_SID.ora:
    HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1
    HS_RPC_FETCH_REBLOCKING=off
Then open a new SQL*Plus session and retry the select.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Wow! Formal support for all BBs is via the carriers...for them to blow you off like that is pretty horrible. I'd suggest contacting them again and push them a little bit more...you have a support agreement with them, if they are not honoring it, escalate with them.
In the meantime, are you on their most recent device OS level? If not, then you might consider updating to see if indeed what they have said holds some kernel of truth. You can check their DL site via this portal:

  • Direct-connect G5 to HDTV for HD movie viewing

I'm looking at a Toshiba HD LCD TV (1080p), and I'd like to watch movies I tape with my HDV camcorder and edit in FCE in full HD resolution. I can, of course, connect the camera directly to the TV (the HD picture is really stunning), but it's awkward. Until something like Blu-Ray discs become affordable, I wonder if either the G-Link or THINC connections will allow me to do this by connecting the TV directly to my G5. Has anybody done something like this?
It would also be nice to record HD programs and edit out commercials, etc., in FCE.
Then again, maybe the announced iTV device will do exactly what I'm looking for. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Well, I got the TV and it seems G-Link is nothing more than a cable with IR to mimic a remote control. The THINC connection can't see my Mac, nor can it see my supposedly-compatible PC, so direct networking is apparently not yet an option to watch my edited movies regardless of their format. I'll cross my fingers that iTV will create that bridge between my TV and Mac's movies.

  • Cisco 2504 OEAP NAT directly connect AP's no ip

I setup my 2504 to work with OEAP.  When I enabled NAT on the management interface the one AP I have directly connected to the WLC is no longer getting an IP address.  Any idea why this is?

First, it is not recommended to have an AP directly connected to the WLC, you really need to connect it to an upstream switch and let it connect that way.
My first thought would be that you need to take a look a the below link that talk about how the NAT ip commands work.

The database needs to be able to contact your PC, and I think your IP on the VPN is 172.20.34.16 rather than 130.174.12.111, correct?
If so, check Preferences - Debugger - Prompt for Debugger Host, initiate another debug session, and when prompted, give that IP instead. Once you had a successful debug session, I'm pretty sure you can uncheck the preference again.
If still no go, some firewall (PC or network) might be blocking the database from reaching your PC.
    Hope that helps,
    K.
