Evaluation of hw features of a machine hosting a SSAS Tabular model

Hi,
on a machine I've deployed a SSAS Tabular model that has two fact tables having each 200-300 millions of rows, and about 10-15 dimension tables. I've implemented some Excel workbooks, each of them queries one measure of one of the two fact tables.
Each workbook has 10-15 filters/slicers. I've tried some times to reduce the number of filter/slicer or of row expansion and I've registered a query response time from 5 to 15 seconds for a change selection for a filter/slicer. 15 seconds is a time too high
for the user requirements.
The formula for the two measures has some SUMs and DIVIDEs. In order to improve the query performance I've tried to write the formula in different manners and I've created partial calculations in the underlying dwh but with negligible performance improvements.
Cutting filters or slicers or row expansions is against the user requirements.
I've also captured some Profiler traces but with few indications.
I suspect that a possible issue derived from the hw features of the hosting machine. During the use of the pivot table the usage of memory is about 50-60% and the usage of CPU is 80-100%.
With the CPU-Z program I've captured the hw features:
I hope in any suggests deriving from the experiences and not from some papers, fe "Performance Tuning of Tabular Models in SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services", in order to improve the query performance from Excel connected to my tabular model.
Probably, the CPU features are not appropriate.
Many thanks

Hi Pscorca,
Based on your description, you want to if it is best practice for improve the query performance in hardware level by increase RAM or CPU. In this case, here are some document about it, please refer to the links below which might helpful for you.

  • Error 10698 Virtual machine could not be live migrated to virtual machine host

    Hi all,
I am running a fail over cluster of

    managed by VMM:
    VMM 2008 R2
    Virtual Host:
    1x windows 2003 64bit guest host/virtual machine
I have attempted a live migration through VMM 2008 R2 and im presented withe the following error:
    Error (10698)
Virtual machine XXXXX could not be live migrated to virtual machine host xxx-Host01 using this cluster configuration.
     (Unspecified error (0x80004005))
What i have found when running the cluster validation:
1 out of the 2 hosts have an error with RPC related to network configuration:
An error occurred while executing the test.
Failed to connect to the service manager on 'xxx-Host02'.
    The RPC server is unavailable
However there are no errors or events on host02 that are showing any probelms at all.
In fact the validation report goes on to showing the rest of the configuration information of both cluster hosts as ok.

There are some people who dispute the details of what "the software" means in the license. From my point of view, I have a license to run all of those versions each license explicity says I can use a VM. I don't think it is illegal or even unseemly. The only version restriction I know of that the new VM policy only applies to Lion or greater. 10.6 could only be run on a VM if you had the expensive server version. The licenses do explicity list the acceptable uses and that includes OS X Server, software development, and non-commercial use. They don't want people selling online access to OS X, that's all.
I do not VM Windows on my MBP because I have no need.
Me neither. I used to though. Funny how a Mac was the most critical tool in debugging web sites on various versions of IE
I don't even run OS X in a VM anyway. It does work but it is quite resource intensive. Maybe if I had one of those new Mac Pros...

  • How to Fix: Error (10698) The virtual machine () could not be live migrated to the virtual machine host () using this cluster configuration.

I am unable to live migrate via SCVMM 2012 R2 to one Host in our 5 node cluster.  The job fails with the errors below.
    Error (10698)
The virtual machine () could not be live migrated to the virtual machine host () using this cluster configuration.
    Recommended Action
Check the cluster configuration and then try the operation again.
    Information (11037)
There currently are no network adapters with network optimization available on host.
The host properties indicate network optimization is available as indicated in the screen shot below.
Any guidance on things to check is appreciated.
    Thanks,

To me this means the nodes cannot talk to each other, but I don’t know why.
They are on the same domain.  Their server names resolve properly and they can ping eachother both by name and IP.

  • Install R12 on a Virtual Machine hosted on Windows Vista

I wanted to install Oracle EBS R12.1.1 on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit but used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error. Hussein Sawwan
helped and said that this is not certified. He adviced me to create a VMWare Server. Following is my experience. I hope it is helpful. Any
suggestions, additions are more than welcome. Thanks to all who helpmed me especially Hussein Sawwan, Helios, Gareth Roberts.
I used to get .\jre\nt\1.6.0\bin\java error after the installation would zoom through 33%. That was because my staging area was not correct. The staging area should be just next to c:\ or whatever be the root directory (or drive). No space or special characters in folder name. My current structure is as follows:
c:\r12stage. Under r12stage I have following folders and subfolders
    oraAppDB -- 49 Disks
    oraApps -- 11 Disks
oraAS -- 3 Disks (This comes from the Rapid Install Tools)
    oraDB -- 5 Disks
startCD -- 1 Disk plus other folders. Just copy startcd from the unzipped download and paste to r12stage area.
I then created a virtual machine using VMWare Server (free download but need to register to get the serial number). Because I installed
vmware server on Vista Home Premium 64 bit Host OS, I have to boot my machine by pressing F8 and then select Disable Digital Signature
Enformcement. Thanks to Gareth Roberts for this tip. Create a vm and install Windows 2003 by selecting the .img file (first cd) by selecting Use ISO image and then path of the windows 2003 cd 1 (zipped file). start the virtual machine, that will install windows 2003 and then ask for location of 2nd cd. On the host machine, where the second win 2003 zip file resides, unzip the second zip file and name the folder as cd2. share this folder to the __vmware_user__ and from the virtual machine, map network drive to \\hostmachinename\cd2. Select this as the location of cd2 and complete the installation. Install MKS Toolkit from http://cygwin.com/ and visual c++ from Microsoft website. for information on this please refer to the following URL. Thanks to Muhammad Habib
    http://mhabib.wordpress.com/2007/03/14/installing-oracle-applications-e-bussiness-11i-on-windows-xp/
After installation is done and Windows Update is run, share the r12stage directory on the host machine to the vmuser and launch rapidwiz.cmd from the command prompt and follow the instruction. For internet connection from the VM use Ethernet as NAT.
If the installation errors halfway through, clean up your VM by following instructions in document id 292424.1 in MetaLink. If you dont have access to Metalink then I summarize the steps briefly over here.
    Launch the Registry Editor.
    Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software key.
Select the Apache Group subkey and delete it.
Select the Oracle subkey and delete it.
Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Current Control Set\Services.
Carefully select and delete each service beginning with Oracle. For example, delete "Oracle Apache Server PROD_<nodename>".
When you are finished, exit the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the Environment Variables editing screen according to your system setup. For example, right-click My Computer and select
Properties. From the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button.
Select the following system variables if created during the failed installation, and delete them: DISCO_JRE, DISCO_VBROKER, JSERV,
    VBROKER_JAVAVM, VBROKER_TAG, WV_GATEWAY.
Select the Path variable, but do not delete it. Carefully edit it and remove any component with "Oracle" in the name, or that otherwise
references the failed install. For example, delete "E:\11.5.10\test\visora\8.0.6\bin;".
    Save and exit System Properties.
Open a command window and navigate to the C:\Program Files\ directory. Delete the Oracle subdirectory.
If your Oracle Inventory directory was not C:\Program Files\Oracle\Inventory and was therefore not deleted in the previous step, locate it
    and delete it.
    Restart your machine
It is now safe to remove the Oracle filesystem that was partially installed during the failed installation. Go to the base install directory,
or top-level directory under which you installed either the Database Server (DATA, DB) or the Applications Tier Server (APPL, ORA, COMN)
directories, or both. Note that you may choose to rename a directory before you delete it. This allows you to use the same directory name and start a new installation even before you finish the delete filesystem operation. For example, if you placed your filesystem in a "test" directory under
    "E:\11.5.10":
    C:\> E:
    E:\> cd 11.5.10
    E:\> rename test oldtest
    E:\> del /s /q oldtest
    In another window:
    C:\> cd <stage install directory>
    Q:\> rapidwiz.cmd
After cleaning up if you still get error like RW-50004: Error Code received when running external process. Check log file for

Starting concurrent manager takes up enormous memory and slows down everything, so if you dont need it then dont ever start it. APPS password is apps and sysadmin user is sysadmin.
    Good luck.

I had Vista 64-bit machine, installed Ubuntu in VMWare. Installed Oracle apps on 32-bit Ubuntu under VMware and was able to access Oracle apps. But, it is very very slow. It hangs sometimes and takes 15-20mins to display Ubuntu screens. Am I missing something here. I have a 4GB RAM and VMWare can not use all the 4GB. It may be using 2GB of 4GB. Am I missing something?

  • Recognizing hardware from a Windows virtual machine hosted on Linux

    Hi,
I would like to isntall windows in a virtual machine run from linux, and run my labview vi's and do aquisition from there.  I tried once using a virtualized Windows XP 32-bit on ubuntu 64-bit, with Virtualbox, but the windows installation didn't recognize my PCI-MIO-16E-4 card.  Maybe its because I didn't have the linux drivers installed.. I don't know.  Soon I will begin using a the 7853R FPGA with the PXI-1036 Chassis, and would prefer if my virutalized Windows installation could see this hardware.
Has anyone gone through the steps of using NI hardware from a virtual Windows installation?  Either Virtualbox, Xen,  Vmware, or whatever..
    Thanks,
    -Sidney
    NI Hardware: PXI-7853R, PCI-5122, PCI-6733, PXI-1036, PCI-MIO-16E-4, PCI-6110
Computer Hardware: Xeon Quad Core - 2.33 Ghz, 8 GB RAM
    Software: Labview 2009, Labview FPGA 2009, Vista 64-bit, MAX 4.6, DAQmx 9.0, NI-SCOPE 3.5

    Hi Sidney,
I see that this thread is a bit old, but I still have something to add. I know for a fact that VirtualBox, VMWare and VirtualPC won't let a guest OS see any real PCI card installed on the host computer. However, you might have better luck with Xen. There are options in Xen which allows you to pass PCI devices forward to guest OS's. People have gotten pretty far with using PCI forwarding that they have even managed to run Windows Vista with full hardware acceleration with Aero as a guest operating system. The only requirement is for your CPU to have virtualization support, i.e. the vmx or svm flag. The only catch is, Xen is significantly harder to set up.
I haven't tried this myself, and I am not from the LabVIEW group, and I am by no means authorative on this topic (don't let my signature fool you).
If you manage to get this to work, we would be interested to hear from you!

  • Intermittant disconnection of Shared Drives on Windows 7 Client machines hosted in WIndows Server 2008 Standard Edition

    The environment - Windows Server 2008 Standard/Windows 7 32 bit Client machine.
Share - It is not a DFS share.
    Antivirus - McAfee
The issue - 1 user is unable to connect to a particular shared drive hosted from within the Windows Server 2008 Standard file server.  This drive is one of the multiple drives which are supposed to be connected to the user machine during logon using
the logon script.  All the other drives mentioned in the logon script gets mapped fine but one particular drive does not.  The user uses a laptop and we have checked his connections while in LAN, Wireless, VPN.  Everything seems to be working
fine apart from this one shared drive.  Rest of the users within that office gets the drive fine but just not this one user.  Since we are not domain admins so we do not have a visibility of the group policies linked to this particular drive and
hence RSOP as well does not help.  We have not seen the user getting logged into the machine using a TEMP profile as well for us to ascertain that the issue may be with a TEMP profile logon.
Please note that the drive does get connected at times and at times the connection just drops off!  As an interim measure the local IT has created a batch file and given it to the user which maps the drive for the user.
Any help in resolving this long impending issue would be much appreciated!
    Suman

    Hi Suman,
You could keep the session always active to workaround this issue. Please open Control Panel -> Administrative tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Policy -> Security Options and set the value of the policy Microsoft Network Server:Amount
of idle time required before suspending a session to 99999 and see how it works.
This security setting determines the amount of continuous idle time that must pass in a Server Message Block (SMB) session before the session is suspended due to inactivity. Administrators can use this policy to control when a computer suspends an inactive
SMB session. If client activity resumes, the session is automatically reestablished. For this policy setting, a value of 0 means to disconnect an idle session as quickly as is reasonably possible. The maximum value is 99999, which is 208 days; in effect, this
    value disables the policy.

  • Machine/Host information available to ABAP

Would anyone know how could I find out the specs of the host where an (the current) ABAP program is running?
I know there is the SY-HOST field available to identify the host name, but I couldn’t find any other system fields.
I am interested in the following:
    1) OS on machine
    2) OS version
    3) Memory on machine
    But most importantly ...
    4) The types of CPU (Brand, Model & speed)
Any help would be great!  Thanks.

    Hello Sumit,
If you look at it one way, the solution to your query is quite simple. All the details that you are asking can be found via the menu path System-->Status. Now this menu is there virtually on every screen in SAP. So one would like to think that there ought to be a Function Module for that!! Now if you debug for a few seconds, you will find that the FM is <b>STATUS_ANZEIGEN</b>.
Of course this FM will have a screen which would be used to display the information. What you need to look at is the code of the FM other than the call to the screen. Just try this piece out.
DATA: BEGIN OF VERSION_INFO OCCURS 0,
            LINE(80),
          END OF VERSION_INFO.
CALL 'SAPCORE' ID 'ID' FIELD 'VERSION'
                   ID 'TABLE' FIELD VERSION_INFO-*SYS*.
    loop at version_info.
      write : / version_info.
    endloop.
Now just don't ask me to explain you the call to the C-Function. It's a secret !!:-)
Have fun. And get back if you have trouble.
    Regards,
    Anand Mandalika.

  • Feature Request: Set a hosted gateway page title using the IDK

    Hi Folks,
I'd like to have a method added to the IPortletResponse interface called setPageTitle(String pageTitle) that would set the browser title bar to the String pageTitle.
This is extremely important for SEO and for usability (because if you minimize a bunch of browser windows pointing to hosted gatway pages, they all say "Gateway" and you have no idea what the bleep is actually in those windows).
    Thanks!

This is possible using the title attribute of the displaymode tag. See http://edocs.bea.com/alui/devdoc/docs60/References/API_Libraries/TagDocs/standard/displaymode.html for more info.

When importing LKM's I've ran into a bug I think ... When I import 1 LKM I'm not able to choose this LKM in the flow-tab of my interface.
From the moment I've imported or defined more than one LKM, the other LKM's listed in the Loading KM are available in the dropdown of the flow-tab for the interface.
Has anybody seen this behaviour already?

  • Can I use my Snow Leopard license in a virtual machine hosted by Mountain Lion?

If I upgrade to mountain lion, can I install snow leopard from my existing upgrade CD, purchased years ago? Need to keep snow leopard around because I'm running an app which won't run in newer OSX versions.

But they sell SL now for $19.99 at the Apple Store, and if you call Apple's phone sales team at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753), you can get SL Server, also for only $19.99, so that's what I did.
We'll see how well VmWare likes it.
WOW: That is the biggest news I have heard in a long time!
I am going to call Apple and purchase a copy of SL Server for research purposes.
Also, there are some people who need access to Rosetta that just do not have the capability to use Terminal and I have always suggested that they look into acquiring SL Server (since both Parallels and VMWare allow for easier installation of SL Server).
So putting up the look and feel of SL Server may be worth the ease of installation.
This may cause me to restart an old project: extracting all of the additional frameworks that Server installs, so that it can be installed but look like and work like Snow Leopard client again
UPDATE: I just ordered my copy!  Thanks!

  • Restore ESXI Windows VMs to another machine / host. Licensing requirements?

Right now I have a Dell R710 running ESXI with the essentials license. I am now buying another server to use a spare. In case the main server fails, I need to have some hardware to restore backups to.My questions/concerns relate to licensing:If I restore Windows Server 2012 VMs from that server to another server do I need another set of licenses for that backup server? What if they are only going to run for a week or 2 waiting for the main server to be repaired? If I have a separate 2012 server license(2 in a vm install) how do I utilize it if the restore will be using the key from the first server? Does just having the licenses allow me do this or does it need to actually be activated under the new license(change the license after restore)If I wanted to do failover to the second server using VMware ESXI...do I need to get additional...

  • [Survey] Which features do you want for EJB 3.0 modeling ?

JDeveloper is currently looking/considering at modeling capabilities to support EJB 3.0 session beans and JPA entities. OK... here's the latest on my lab environment/server set up. We have a 17" iMac G5. It is connected to a 24 port 10/100 switch with two gigabit ports. The iMac gets a gigabit port; the eleven eMacs get 10/100 ports. There is an internal 160 GB SATA hard drive installed in the iMac, and a 160 GB external firewire drive connected to the iMac for back-up purposes. I haven't got the back-up software running yet, but plans are to back up user information on the external hard drive and create an archive of server OS set up and software on DVD in case of catastrophic failure.
Since our 30+ Windows boxes are served with your basic Dell Optiplex running Windows Server 2003 and an old, cranky Gateway running Linux, I didn't think our little Mac lab would suffer that much under an iMac server. So far it's been smooth sailing, and the whole set-up, iMac, server software, and external hard drive, were under $2000.
