Even the new power adaptors are duds

My Macbook Pro has unfortunately been back to the Apple Trafford Centre on a couple of occasions, its not exactly around the corner either being 108 km away and taking an hour and a half to get there. It went back today to have a faulty power adaptor replaced. In fact the woman in front of me at the Genius (I use the term loosely) bar had the same problem except with a MacBook. She was somehow led to believe that this was her own fault as the genius managed to get it to work and sent here off with her tail between her legs. I'm not having that I thought to myself and settled for a new adaptor "swap out" making it cheaper but still almost 40 quid. When I asked if this had a 12 months warranty I was informed no only 3 months, sadly this was after my credit card had been swiped. regrettably neither I nor the genius thought to check that this new still in it's cellophane adaptor worked. Imagine my surprise when I got back to find that It was worse that the old one I had handed in. I have just got it to work now by trapping the MacBook end of the cable under the adaptor, not ideal but at least I get to vent off a little steam. The moral of this story: they aren't geniuses, trust no one, there's no such thing as a bargain...
This was a new smaller version of the 85w adaptor and all I'm getting is snap and crackle, I'm just waiting for the POP ! I read today that Apple's sales of notebooks have increased by 61% (http://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/29/apple-notebook-shipments-skyrocket-61/), better get some more geniuses at that bar Apple, their going to be busy.

even then i've had refunds on apple for product issues 3-4 months outside warranty, the trading standards office and small claims court take the refreshing view that what the law says counts and what apple says doesn't, even if warranty is up that doesn't limit your rights in law
if they sold you a pup, complain and demand refund/replacement (plus reasonable travel costs if you travel, but i'd do it by phone on the service number)
apple can give good service, it can also be dire

    You may have triggered some intermittent database issues but it should be running smooth by now. Let us know if you still see server errors.
    Also, if your addons appear to go missing after updating there is a workaround http://blog.mozilla.com/addons/2011/09/28/issue-discovered-with-firefox-add-on-upgrades/ And there is a 7.0.1 fix on its way.

    (Default setting AutoCommit=1)
    If the tables are created it will be data file that is in C:\TimesTen\Database path
    If the data's are populated(inserted/updated) then the log will be in D:\TimesTen\Log path and data's will be C:\TimesTen\Database
    Here what ever command which is issued will be logged in D:\TimesTen\Log
    Where the new or incoming data's are placed , first in-memory or where ,if it is placing in memory when it will be writing to disk. I couldn't be able to see any data's in memory when the new data is inserted.
    I am using bulk command to insert the data
    ttBulkCp -i DSN=my_ttdb mytable C:\TimesTen\Database\test.txt
    When the data's are inserted it writes the log in the log directory D:\TimesTen\Log and the new log files are generated my_ttdb.logXX ,then what is the difference in general Oracle database and Oracle TimesTen database?
    If the logs are going to happen when we use the ttBulkCp command then we can opt for Oracle database and why we need to go for Oracle TimesTen if all the operations are similar.What differs here with normal Oracle database.

    Permanent databases are stored to disk automatically through a procedure called checkpointing.     What do you mean it isn't' compatible?  What isn't compatible?
    There is no limit to the number of iPods you can sync to one computer, iTunes library, or iTunes account.  Simply connect each separate iPod/iPhone to your computer and configure each to sync whatever content you wish to.

    Thanls Ernie. I found the solution. My problem was previous to 10.10.3. It looks like the installation of final cut and uninstallation of fcp delte a plugins that was needed for Aperture. I recover from time machine my plugins in Library/frameworks/plugin.manager.framework and now Aperture works ! Ouf....

  • What do I do if I lost my power cord to my iPhone 5 and there are no lightning cords or adapters available in my city or on-line at the apple store for 2-3 weeks?? My phone is going to die - I have no way to get the new power cord.

    I got the new iPhone 5 last week and have been happy with it. I went to the apple store on-line a few days later to order some adapters for the power cord, so that I could use it with my alarm clock and dock at work - although they are back ordered until nov.  yesterday I lost my lightning power cord and there are NONE available in my city and the apple store is till out of stock for at least a couple of weeks.  My phone now has 10% battery and losing last - what can I do to power my phone???? I use it for work, I need to have it working and available butndont seem to have any options.  Please let me know if there is another device I can use to power my phone!!

    Sorry to tell you but unless you have a Retail Apple Store close by, they are the only ones I have found with all the adapters and accessories. I bought an extra lightning to usb adapter the other day to use in my truck. Good luck....

  • Magnetic debris stuck in the magsafe power adaptor port on Macbook Pro

    I searched and could not find any good advice on what to do if a magnetic particle is stuck in the magsafe power port. The Apple manual gives advice to use a cotton swab but this is futile for a magnetic or metal particle as they are held tightly in by the magnetic attraction of the power port.
    Interestingly, I see very little reference to this occurring for folks. For me it happened on both my older MacBook and my new one - 2-3 times on my older - this is the first on my 2010 model. Of course, I don't just perch my laptop on a desk and idolize it - I use it everywhere!
    I tried to "fight fire with fire" by using a strong magnet but even that was not strong enough to coax out the bit of metal.
    I finally found a good solution. I "sharpened" an old corner of a credit card using scissors so it had a slightly sharp edge (on an inside corner where I had cut the card in 4) - not too sharp so its easily bent as from what i find, you need a lot of force to pry the magnetic debris out. I had tried the credit card w/o sharpening but you need to "dig under" the debris and pop it out. Once I had my new CC fragment tool in hand - I was able to move the magnetic particle to the side, pry under it and pop it out.
    On my older macbook, the solution was not so elegant - I used a small flathead screewdriver - I don’t recommend that! It scratches up the inside of the magsafe power port - though it was still functional.

    Errr, its not like I'm on the floor of a steel mill!! Serious risk of fire?? If you believe that from small "magnetic" pebbles then I've got some swamp land in Florida I think you'd be interested in.
    Seriously, nothing that unusual; on the carpeted floor, on the buss, in my laptop bag -- I have no idea where I'm picking this stuff up from but as I've come to learn, its not that unusual for very small bits of magnetized debris to get picked up by this magsafe port. Not like every other day - something like once a year.

  • The pinned and unpinned pages on the "new tab" page are glitchy as hell.

    When I try to move ANY of the pinned of unpinned pages on the "new tab" page, all of them go off their grid and move spastically as I try to pin a page to a certain spot. It's really hard to describe. I already opened and closed firefox, but that didn't solve the problem. Hell, I even updated Firefox with the most recent update, but it's still doing it. I managed to get my tabs where I want them, but if I want to add another it's going to be nearly impossible because the bottom line of the grid is completely beyond reach.

    Then perform these steps:

  • Premiere Pro CC and the new Mac Pro - are all upgrades necessary?

    Monday I'm ordering the new Mac Pro because my Mid 2012 Mac Pro tower is simply too slow and crashy no matter how much money I sink into it. Thing is, every little upgrade I add onto this new Mac Pro is very expensive, so I want to make sure I don't add anything that won't make a difference in edit performance.
    My ultimate goal is to be able to work with 4k, and even 5k footage in 2014. More and more clients are giving me Red media, and my system right now can't handle it (I have to render proxy files for everything).
    Attached are my hardware upgrade options for my processor and graphics card. These options can only be offered when I order the computer. Neither the processor or the GFX card can be changed by me later. Note that these options alone almost double the computers's price (3600). As of now I assume that getting the fastest everything is the way to go, but is there any reason I should not go this high?

  • Help!! My emails keep disappearing when I open mail. Even the new ones that start to load.

    My emails go into thin air when I open the mail icon. Both the new and old ones disappear. It gets better if I reboot, but still keep happening. This has gone on for a month now. I also tried to change my settings....ask before you delete, show the first 50 messages. I turned off the cloud. . .

    I don't know what you consider rebootting, but here are a bunch of things that you can try. Some are just - hey let's give this a shot and see!
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
    Quit the mail app and restart. In order to quit or close apps - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    You can also go to Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars - tap on your email account and turn it off - launch the mail app - then return to the settings and turn your email account on again - quit the mail app as described above - and then launch the mail app again.
    The last thing I could suggest is to delete the mail account and add it back on again.

    This happens for a song I bought from the iTunes Store. When I change the Album Name on songs read in from CDs, it sorts by
    the Album Name which I edit.

    Changing file or folder names by hand makes iTunes loose contact with the files. You shouldn't do this. If the files are stored inside the iTunes Media folder and you have the option "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" enabled then files with move around as you edit their tags. If they are stored elsewhere, or that option isn't selected, then if you want to rename the files you need to remove and then reimport, or manually reconnect each track one by one.
    Select all of the tracks of the album, press Ctrl+I to Get Info, select the Sorting tab, delete the contents of any of the Sort fields, click OK. This should resolve the sorting issue.

    I ordered some new Power Mac G5s and was wondering if they come with a system disc? I like to wipe the drives clean and do my own clean install (sorry, nothing against ya Apple, I just feel better doing it myself) but I heard they don't come with a system disc and was wondering if that's true. I also ordered a Power Mac Server and was told the same thing.

    A couple of quick questions if I may:
    Where are you getting "new" Power Mac G5s from?  Are these new to you or new in the box?  The reason I ask is since the G5 hasn't been in production for several years, I would *love* to get a "new in the box" one!  If you are getting a new Mac Pro, then they are currently shipping and here is a link to the Apple Store that shows what comes in the box:

    And if the G5 comes "new in the box", then there should be Apple system restore disks in the box, so you can wipe and re-install to your heart's content, however you won't be able to run 10.7 Lion.  The PowerMac G5 stops at 10.5.8 Leopard.

    Not clear if you are referring to posting of records during an initialization activity or normal delta, full loads. In case of an initialisation for a LO Cockpit datasource you cannot allow any postings to be done in the source (ECC) system. In case of normal delta, full loads, the changes are stored in tables/extract structures/delta queues and are not affected by the changes in the source system during that time. The changes done during that time are captured in the next delta run.

    If the basic troubleshooting steps, including restore as a NEW device, not from backup, have failed to resolve your issue, then you are probably having some hardware malfunction.  You will need to bring your phone, and $199 to Apple for out of warranty replacement of the phone.
