Even when I turn down the volume in a clip to zero in imovie '11, but it still plays the audio! I can't get it to stop playing the audio. Any help?
this problem with audio began yesterday but before that it was fine! this is a brand new macbook pro...not even a week old!
Does it work with headphones plugged in? That is typically the culprit, the device mistakenly believes that a pair of headphones are plugged in.

thx for help !!!!!Which photos? If the missing photos were synced to the iPod then you have to get them from where you got them the first time. Synced photos are not in the backup that iTunes makes.

I can see the Application folder in the Finder window but can't seem to get it back on to my dock.
Any help would be appreciated it!Close all windows and quit all applications.
Launch Finder by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock.
Right click the "Application" folder and select "Get Info".
At the bottom of the resulting window there will be a blue folder icon in the preview section.
Drag the whole window to the right side of the desktop,closer to the Dock.
Now drag the blue preview folder to the Dock right of the separator line.
Right click the folder icon and select "Folder" under "Display as" if it is not shown as folder.

Still can't get Epson driver working....any help?
Hi all, I've posted elsewhere and this site and am new to mac so bear with me. I really cant seem to get my epson 3800 (and my old 830U) to work, even after downloading what I thought were the most current drivers. Am I missing something... I've been at it for so many hours now, and would love to love my new mac after swapping (from a very functional) PC system. Forgive me if I'm asking already answered questions but I've followed all the advice I could find and still no luck. Al i get is a single, generic printer dialogue with no options worth speaking of... what happened to all my printer functions...I really need them for my work, and can't bear the thought of having to re-install my PC to get me through.
Any help much appreciated.
SNThanks for you help...sadly I have done this several times now with no luck. After deleting all drivers, I download the latest version direct from the Epson site (pro 3800), I then delete any printers in print menu, re-add the new printer driver, navigate to select the driver again. I check the details are correct (driver version 6.1).
Still no luck...what am i doing wrong? Is there something I am missing here?
I am just about at the end of my teather here...Is it possible to revert a previous version of OS x...I've not done this before but I just have to get working and I've been trying to solve this problem for nearly a day now...

Address Book vCard export includes Notes, even when I turn off the option.
When I do an export of an individual vCard, it exports the notes field, even though I have that box unchecked in preferences. I will uncheck the box again and after I do the export I notice the program has re-checked the box automatically. If I look at the exported vCard it will includes the notes field. How do I do an export and exclude the notes field?

Thanks for the help. I tried both methods with the same results. I then tried deleting both files at the same time and also the file com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist, then emptying the trash and re-launching the program. I unchecked the box to export the notes field and it worked for the first export only. After a second export the box was checked again and the vCard had the notes field.
I was wondered if it was related to Mobile Me, but I looked on my Powerbook which also has OS X 10.5.8, Address Book 4.1.2, and is also synched and the exports are working fine there (no export of the notes field).
Any other ideas? Everything is backed up with Time Machine, so I wouldn't mind nuking the whole thing. -

Is there any way possible that I can do this without paying for them over again?When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself, nor should you disable them or Time Machine.

You have obviously downloaded and installed Acrobat (30 day trial version) and the trial period has expired.
You need to uninstall Acrobat (using the Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features [Vista/7])
Then run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
to completely remove the Acrobat installer files.
Then download Reader 9, install it, and go about reading PDFs for free.

Turn down the volume of built-in speaker before playing music
So I was wondering if there was any way to turn down the volume of the built in speaker prior to playing music/video. I imagine that if I'm REALLY quick and pause the action, I can turn it down, but I'd rather not have to race against time.
The context for this, is the desire to show someone else video on the iPhone (say a National Geographic video podcast) without the audio blasting forth.
Any ideas?So you're saying the phone doesn't remember the previous setting you had it at and jumps up or something...?
..or you want to hit play and have it not play so you can adjust the volume first...sorry can't help if that's the case. It kind of doesn't make sense from a UI perspective, when I press play or start a video I want it to play....different strokes for different folks tho -

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.

I've got a 15" white macbook which I bought about 2 years ago. It froze the other day and wouldn't respond so I shut it down. I've tried a few things i've seen online but the futhest ive got is to put the start up disk in when you makes it go to a grey screen with an apple logo and the spinning wheel which then stops spinning. Can anybody help?
That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on your keyboard once.It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left handlist. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead. -
Is the W520 supposed to whirrr and click even when completely shut down?
I just received my W520 (#4270CTO) about 3 weeks ago. This is my first laptop (to be used for video editing and animation), so I'm not sure what to expect.
I noticed that when I shut down the W520 (go to "Start" select "shutdown"), it continues to make a very faint whirrr and click noise. The noise pattern goes like this: long whirrrr, click, short period of silence, then it repeats. It does this all the time when the computer is turned off. Even when I don't use the computer for 2 days, and it is turned off, it continues to whirr and click. It only stops when I disconnect the battery and reinstall it. Only then, is it completely silent.
Is it supposed to do that (the whirr and click all the time)?
The whirr and click noise is very soft, so you have to lift it up and listen to it but it is audible. My friend says that it is the hard drive noise, and said it should not be doing that, but he doesn't have a W520, and isn't familiar with it. So I thought I should ask someone else who has one to see if theirs is doing the same thing.
I also noticed that the fingerprint reader LED stays lit all the time except for when the computer is on and I'm using it. It stays green even when the computer is shut down and the lid is closed.
Please help. Is my W520 working properly, or should I call for tech support?

I've only noticed the noise coming from the underside of the computer when my W520 is turned off with the battery still attached.
If I remove the battery and reinstall it, the noise stops.
If I plug in the power brick, the noise stops. (The brick doesn't even have to be plugged into a wall socket. I could just plug the power brick into the computer without plugging in the other end to a power supply.)
Of course, if I remove the battery the noise also stops.
But if I use the W520, then shut it down and leave the battery attached, it will continue to make the faint long whirrr and click noise. I have let it sit without turning on the machine for 3 days, and it continued to make the soft noise every day.
I don't suppose your computer makes the same noise. Maybe my computer really is defective. It works great otherwise. -
How do I turn down the volume of the Media Browser in Audition?

I'm using an RME Multiface II and mixing in 5.1, but the point is that the project is very quiet, and many of my samples are loud. If I turn down the whole thing, I can't hear the soft project over the loud samples that I'm trying to add. (When I'm working in Acid or Reaper with loop-based stuff, I can simply turn down a volume slider in the media browser equivalent.)

Inspire s2 wireless turns down the volume by itself.
Hey. I bought my Inspire about a year ago and it worked fine.
Then suddenly when i connected it to my laptop it turns the volume down. I can turn it up again but it just keeps muting.
First i thought it was my laptop settings and i'm not a geniuos with computers.
But then i connected the speakers with my iPod touch and it still turns down the volume totally random. It does it approx every 5 minutes.
Can anyone tell what the devil the matter is?

Turn your phone off and connect your cable to the computer, but not the device just yet. Start up iTunes. Now, hold down the home button on your phone and plug it in to the cable - don't let go of the button until iTunes tells you it's detected a phone in recovery mode. Now you can restore to factory settings.
