Excel 2013 Object Model - Conditional Formatting

1) I'd like to understand the new Excel object model more thoroughly. Can anyone suggest a book?
2) Are the formulas and/or format settings for conditional formatted cells stored in the object model or in the workbook?  I'm guessing the workbook.
Thanks.
Ross

1) The object model for Excel 2013 is the same as that for earlier versions, with a few additions and omissions.
See http://spreadsheetpage.com/index.php/books for lots of books about Excel, including programming.
2) Conditional formatting is stored in the workbook, but you can manipulate it with VBA.

  • CSV to Excel 2013 - Issue with number format

    Hi,
I use Excel 2013 to manipulate CSV files. I experienced issue with number format cells. In my CSV file there is one column that presents latitude values in format: 52.05456464. When I open my CSV file in Excel 2013 all values in that column get separator
".", in this case my number is present like this: 52.054.454.464. I tried to change my cell format, and when opened the category was Number, I change it to the General but in that case I lost all "." and got 52054454464.
I also tried to open same file on other machine with Excel 2010 and file is opened correctly without issues and in cell format the category is general by default.
I hope that there is some kind of resolution for this.

    Hi
According to your description, we may follow these steps:
highlight the column B > Home Tab > Number section > Select Number and choose "More Number Format" > Make sure the Negative number is chosen correctly. If you are using Custom format, we will have to change it.
    Hope it helps
    Best regards

  • Layering Objects w/ Conditional Formatting

I have a report w/ conditional formatting. In one instance, object a needs to display, and in another, object b needs to display; however, they both need to be in the same place in the layout. Every time I try to simply place one on top of the other, it obviously doesn't work. How can I layer them on top of each other w/o them being put into the same frame?

    Brice,
you can do this without loosing the overview about the objects, when you use anchors. On both object you need a format trigger to enable/disable formatting vice versa. Anchor the left upper corner of object b to the left upper corner of object a set the properties for horizontally and vertically collapsing of the anchor to "yes". When Object a was not formatted, the anchor will collabse and the left upper corner of object b will be exact on the position of left upper corner of object a.

  • Conditional formatting based on formula

I would like to highlight values in a column that are the maximum. If using Excel, would do a conditional format such as Cell Value Is, equal to, =max(a:a)
Has anyone made Numbers do this?

Here is an example of one of the "cheesy" methods, it is a clever workaround:
First image shows two overlapping tables. 2nd Image shows the underlaying table creating the highlights.

  • Excel 2013 Conditional Formatting problem

    Hello!
A customer of mine has recently transitioned from Office 2007 to Office 365. This has been a major hurdle for them, and they're still experiencing some issues with things not behaving the way they used to. I'm not an Excel expert, so I have no idea if the
following issue is some sort of bug or compatibility issue, or if the user is just expecting behavior that isn't going to occur in this version of Excel.
She has a spreadsheet that she uses to schedule people. She uses conditional formatting to change the color of numbers based on their size. For example, everything less than 2 is red, everything between 2 and 4 is green, etc.
So, let's say she has two rows that have been formatted already. Then she adds a third row, inputs the data, then highlights the entire row and tries to format it. Once she adds her rules and clicks "Ok", that row is formatted...but rows 1 and
2 have now been cleared of all formatting. So basically, she can't format things on the go, as she puts them in, she has to format everything at the same time, every time.
It doesn't happen to every row that has already been formatted. If she has 20 rows that are formatted, sometimes only 2 of them will lose their formatting after she applies her rules to a new row. It's usually the rows that are right next to the new row.
I have very little experience with Excel conditional formatting, so I don't know what would cause this, or if there's a fix or workaround. Also, I'm not sure if I'm explaining it clearly. Any help or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hi,
According to your description, this issue seems occur with the special spreadsheet. In my view, it might be more related to the file itself, such as incorrect range with conditional formatting rule, double rule with same cell range or other.
would you like to send the sample file to me ([email protected])  if possible? I want to test it.

  • Excel 2013 - conditional format with dates

    Hi
I have a workbook that logs courses people have been on and I type in the date the qualification needs to be renewed. I would like that cell to change colour when it is so many days before the renewal date using the =today() function.
pale yellow - 60 days before renewal date
orange - 30 days before renewal date
red - expired, i.e. today's date is after the renewal date
I have an idea how to do it but I can't seem to get it working exactly the way I want it to.
    Thanks.

Select the cell or cells. I will assume in the following that A2 is the active cell within the selection.
On the Home tab of the ribbon, click Conditional Formatting > New Rule...
Select 'Use a formula to determine which cells to format'.
    Enter the formula
    =AND(A2<>"",A2<TODAY()+60)
    Click Format...
    Activate the Fill tab.
    Click More Colors...
    Select pale yellow.
    Click OK three times.
Repeat the above steps, but with the formula
    =AND(A2<>"",A2<TODAY()+30)
    and with orange.
Finally, repeat them again, but with the formula
    =AND(A2<>"",A2<TODAY())
    and with red.

  • SSAS Tabular Model and browse with MS Excel 2013

I have a tabular model, It has an attribute with datatype and data format as "whole number". When I browse the model from excel and add label filter, it
    does not work as expected.
When I specify greater than 180 as label filter, It gives following output:
My guess is that it is just filtering on first two digits "18" and not "180". When I copy these values in a excel sheet and create pivot table on top of it, hell it works fine.
Is this a microsoft bug? have you encountered something like this or I am doing some thing wrong?
I am using tabular model 2012 and excel 2013 or 2010.

  • Conditional formatting and extensibility in Power View for SharePoint 2013 on-premises

    Good day,
Is there a way we could apply conditional formatting in table objects, specifically at cell level (green, yellow and red) to a Power View dashboard in SharePoint 2013?
If not, is there a way to extend Power View to support these requirements. I know that SSRS and PowerPivot provide a wide range of customization tools, unfortunately so far the only customization capabilities that I've found in Power View are themes , fonts
and backgrounds but nothing that could allow this level of formatting. What are the available options, only SSRS and PowerPivot?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Marcelo Estrada MCP-MCTS-MCITP-MCSA-MCSE

    Hi Marcelo,
As you know, generally themes , fonts and backgrounds are supportted in power view, more details information:Format Power View reports
Currently, there is no way to extend Power View to support these requirements. I recommend you to submit

  • Losing formatting when Share/Un-share Excel 2013

    Hello all
    We're using Excel 2013 on Windows 8 32 bit.
We are having major concerns with the formatting of these files. It’s sort of hard to explain but we get it all set the way we want it and then if we share or un-share it we lose all our formatting.

    Hi,
Did this issue occurred with a particular file? Which type of formatting did lost? Generally speaking, If we are saving it in the older Excel 97-2003 format, then it is possible that the losses you are seeing are due to the formatting not being supported
in the older format. This is particularly true with colors and conditional formatting. Please try to save it as Excel 2013 format.
If this issue still exists, do you mind sending us a sample file? Email:
[email protected]? So I can test it from my side. Please use thread link or the subject of this post as mail subject.

  • How do I apply conditional formatting using SharePoint Designer 2013?

I'm attempting to apply Conditional Formatting to a list view web part via SharePoint Designer 2013, and I can't seem to find the option to do so.
I've a horrible feeling I'm just being daft, but here's what I've done so far:
    - Created a new page (I've tried both web part and wiki)
    - Added a list "App part" and saved the page
    - Checked-out and opened the page via Designer
    - Clicked the "Edit file" option
    - Selected the XsltListViewWebPart tag
So far I can't find any options to add it. If I open the Conditional Formatting pane via the View menu it tells me the following:
    > To use conditional formatting, select an HTML tag, data value, or
    > range of text, and then click Create to specify formatting options.
I've tried selecting the web part tags in all manner of combinations with no luck. In previous version I would have simply selected the previewed data rows in the now-absent Preview pane.
    Am I missing something?

Create and edit a Wiki Page
Click Inset > Data View and Select “Empty Data View”
Click Inside the <DataSources> tags </DataSources>
Click Insert > Data Source “Your Data Source Name”
Hold down Ctrl button and select the Rows in the order you want them to appear from your “Data Source Details” Window.
After the Rows are selected click on the drop down “Insert Selected Fields as…” at the top of the “Data Source Details” Window.
Select “Multiple Item View” option (This will create the xsl where we need to add the conditional formatting to)
Find the <tr> tag that contains the Row Data.  Insert the following right below the <tr> tag:
    <xsl:attribute name="style">
    <xsl:if test="@FieldName = 'Something'">background-color: #FF0000;</xsl:if>
    </xsl:attribute>
I hope this helps.  I figured this out by using the old 2010 Designer to figure out the where to place the code and how to do this.

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 - Conditional formatting

    Hey all,
I'm trying to pull of conditional formatting for the outcome of a "Yes or No" column within a Custom List, however all the searching I have done shows that it seems to have been removed in Sharepoint 2013 without using a Jquery (I'm having problems
getting my head around Sharepoint 2013 at the moment, dont want to add Jqueries to it as well lol).
Have I missed something stupidly easy? I have http://www.cdpdev.com/Blog/Post/7/Conditional-Formatting-in-SharePoint-2013 but it seems to be using Sharepoint
2013 with Sharepoint designer 2010 which I dont really want to have to do as the will be in time handed over the my 'manager' who will self manage and using 2 different pieces of software is kinda out of the question.
    Regards
    JB

    Hey @ITechbrij
it seems the above post doesn't work for Sharepoint 2013 as I'm getting a syntax error but this maybe due to me not being able to find the formula box so put it into the "Column Validate" section as I'm missing the formula box that is shown in the 2010 screenshots.
If this is not possible what do you suggest? Going with the Sharepoint designer 2010 approach? As I cant find how to do it in 2013 and wouldn't know where the start with a jquery lol.

  • Powerpivot 2013 doesn't work on Excel 2013 / Office 365: data model issue

    Hi guys
I recently upgraded my Office 2010 to Office 365, with Excel 2013. Before installing Office 365 I uninstalled Office 2010. I'm running Windows 8 64 bits.
I have the Powerpivot 2013 add-in, I can activate it without any issue. However when I click on "manage" on any spreadsheet (including new empty ones) I have an error "We
couldn't load the Data Model.  This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.", followed by "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model".
I tried to repair the installation to no avail. I tried to launch excel in admin mode, nothing better.
This issue seems to be shared by some other people on this forum but
with no satisfactory answer so far.
I had a SQL server 2012 plugin installed previously which I uninstalled as well, but no change.
Would you think of something else?
    Thanks

  • SSRS 2012 Conditional Formatting Color Issues When Exporting to Excel

    Hi all,
We recently upgraded to SQL 2012 from SQL2008 R2. I'm having a strange issue with SSRS2012.
One of the report has conditional formattings on cell background colors. Everything works fine when render the report in browser or preview mode. However, the conditional formatting stop working when export the report to Excel (no issues if
export to pdf). All cells are high-lightened with pre-defined color although it should only high-lighten those cells that fulfil the condition.
Has someone encountered this issue before ? Thanks for any help.

    Hi ZZ02,
I have test the scenario in my testing environment, however, everything goes well when exporting to Excel format. The issue might be related to the expression for the conditional background color. To make further analysis, please post the expression as well
    as the report design structure.
Additionally, in SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services, the Excel rendering extension renders a report to the native format of Microsoft Excel 2007-2010, the format of which is ExcelOpenXML. By default, the previous version of the Excel rendering extension,
compatible with Microsoft Excel 2003, is disabled. At this time, I suggest that you enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension by modifying the RSReportServer.config file. After that, the Excel 2003 rendering format will be available on report manager (not
available in Report Designer). So, please export the report from report manager and check the result again.
For more information about enable the Excel 2003 rendering extension, please see:

  • Excel 2013 PowerPivot Error - "PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model"

I'm attempting to use the PowerPivot add-on in Excel.  When clicking 'Manage Data Model' or attempting to 'Load to data model,' I receive the error 'We couldn't load the Data Model.  This may be because the Data Model in this workbook is damaged.',
followed by 'PowerPivot is unable to load the Data Model.'  This happens irrespective of data source type.  I have Excel 2013 32-bit, PowerPivot 32-bit, running on Windows 7 OS 64-bit.  I am not running an SSAS instance on my machine.
    Any suggestions?
