Excel data source and the use of add command
HI, Looking for suggestions on how to work with multiple inputs that cannot be joined directly. Here's the background.
The Report currently reads in two different Ecel files and uses 3 SQL commands to query an Oracle Database. I need to join the 5 data sources and am having issues with the 2 excel files. In one file I need to be able to derive a field based on another column in the file In order to create the join condition to the SQL commands. I'd equate this to a case statement in SQL, but how goes one do that using the 'add command' feature? What is the syntax?
Next I would need to join (left outer) the two excel files using two fields from file A (a1, a2) and 3 fields from file B (b1,b2,b3), where a1=b1 and b2 <= a2 <= b3 when rows from A exist in B. If row A does not exist in B then we still want it in the report and available to left outer join to the 3 oractab data sources.
runtime is also a concern.
Any Suggestions?
hi Elena,
in this case the use of subreports is not recommended. that's because you're exporting to excel and you need data in columns across the report. subreports will not, unfortunately, give you what you need.
this would bring you back to joining the datasources. what i would recommend is looking into using 'oracle database link' to link your oracle db to excel files. here's one article as an example but you may be able to find a better one. if you have questions on this please ask them on an oracle forum as the syntax that you need will be database specific.
a lot of databases have this type of technology which allows you to create a view to other data. sql server has 'linked servers', sap hana has 'smart data access'. essentially you are creating a non-materialized view to the external data. then this view is available on the main oracle server where you established this connection. this should be a lot easier than trying to bring a bunch of command objects together off independent datasources inside of crystal.

The error below makes absolutely no sense! I'm using Enterprise Core...yet I'm being told I can't use remote data sources:
w3wp!library!8!03/05/2015-19:08:48:: i INFO: Catalog SQL Server Edition = EnterpriseCore

Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services.;
Really? This totally contradicts the documentation found here:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms157285(v=sql.110).aspx
That article says remote connections are completely supported.
ARGH! Why does this have to be so difficult to setup?!?Hi jeffoliver1000,
According to your description, you are using Enterprise Core edition and you are prompted that you can’t use remote data sources.
In your scenario, we neither ignore your point nor be doubt with what you say. But actually we have met the case before that even though the SQL Server engine is Enterprise but the reporting services is still standard. So I would recommend you to find the
actual edition of reporting services you are using. You can find Reporting Services starting SKU in the Reporting Service logs ( default location: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\<instance name>\Reporting Services\LogFiles). For more information,
please refer to the similar thread below:

By the way, have you installed the other SQL Server edition before?

Hello all,
I have SQL express 2014 advance edition installed ..
and i am connecting SQl server 2008 r2 instance which is in network
while creating datasource in Reportserver which has Express installed ..
got this error ..
please help me how to connect to remote server
Dilip Patil..Error message says it all.
With SQL Express, Data source should be local SQL DB.
With SQL Enterprise, Standard, BI edition, you can create Data soruce which are hosted on other servers.

Generic Data Source and InfoPackage Data Selection
Hello, I'm trying to extract data from a generic data source (composed of a view joining 4 tables) using the Data Selection Criteria in an infopackage. Sometimes the selection criteria is ignored and more data is pulled than expected. The number of selectable items in the generic data source has been reduced (in case this was an issue) and for a short time the infopackaged pulled the expected number of records. Then another change was made to the generic data source and the problem returned. In any case, the transported generic data source does not work in the target system either. I'm not sure what is causing this to happen. Any ideas??? BW 3.5.

Sue

Ramesh PHi,
Some of the datasources will not have default Infopackages for them.You can create the infopackages according to the requirement.There is no big deal for creating Infopackages.You can go ahead creating them.

OWB 10g -- Can't Create Database Links for Data Source and Target
We installed OWB 10g server components on a Unix box running Oracle 10g (R2) database. The Designer Repository is in one instance. The Runtime Repository and the Target are in another instance. The OWB client component was installed on Windows XP. We create a data source module and a target module in OWB. The data source is on another Unix box running Oracle 9i (R2) database. We try to create database links for data source module and target module, respective. But when we created and tested the DB links, the DB links were failed.
For the database link of data source, we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
SQL Exception
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: CacheMediator.
Method Name: getDDEntryFromDB.
Repository Error Message: ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred
For the database link of target , we got the following error message:
Testing...
Failed.
API2215: Cannot create database link. Please contact Oracle Support with the stack trace and the details on how to reproduce it.
Repository Error:SQL Exception..
Class Name: oracle.wh.ui.integrator.common.RepositoryUtils.
Method Name: createDBLink(String, String, String, String).
Method Name: -1.
Repository Error Message: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00933: SQL command not properly ended.
However, we could connect to the two databases (data source and target) using the OWBs utility SQL Plus.
Please help us to solve this problem. Thank you.As I said prior the database link creation should work from within the OWB client (also in 10).
Regarding your issue when deploying, have you registered your target locations in the deployment manager and did you first deployed your target location's connector which points out to your source?
I myself had some problems with database link creations in the past and I can't remember exactly what they were but it had something to do with
- the use of abnormal characters in the database link name
- long domain name used in as names.default_domain in my sqlnet.ora file
What you can do is check the actual script created when deploying the database link so see if there's something strange and check if executing the created script manually works or not. -
The connection string for coded UI Data driven test using excel data source is not working
Hello,
I am using the visual studio 2012 coded UI test, i added the following connection strings to connect to an excel data source:
[DataSource("System.Data.Odbc", "Dsn=Excel Files;Driver={Microsoft Excel Driver (*.xls)};dbq=C:\\Users\\shaza.said.ITWORX\\Desktop\\Automation\\On-track Automation Framework\\On-track_Automation\\Automation data file.xls;defaultdir=.;driverid=790;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=5;readonly=true",

[DataSource("System.Data.Odbc", "Dsn=Excel Files;dbq=|DataDirectory|\\Automation data file.xls;defaultdir=C:\\Users\\shaza.said.ITWORX\\Desktop\\Automation\\On-track Automation Framework\\On-track_Automation\\Automation data file.xls;driverid=1046;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=5",
"Sheet1$", DataAccessMethod.Sequential), TestMethod]
But i get the following error:
"The unit test adapter failed to connect to the data source or to read the data. For more information on troubleshooting this error, see "Troubleshooting Data-Driven Unit Tests" (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=62412) in the MSDN Library.

Thanks,
ShazaThanks for Adrian's help.
Hi shaza,
From the error message, I suggest you can refer the Adrian's suggestion to check the date source connection string correctly.
In addition, you can refer the following about how to Create a Data-Driven Coded UI Test to check your issue:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624082.aspx
Or you can also try to use a Configuration File to Define a Data Source for coded UI test.
For example:
<?xml

encoding="utf-8"
?>
<configuration>
<configSections>
<section
name="microsoft.visualstudio.testtools"
type="Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.UnitTesting.TestConfigurationSection,
Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a"/>
</configSections>
<connectionStrings>
<add
name="ExcelConn"
connectionString="Dsn=Excel Files;dbq=E:\Unit Test\AddClass\AddUnitTest\add.xlsx;defaultdir=.;
driverid=790; maxbuffersize=2048; pagetimeout=60;"
providerName="System.Data.Odbc"/>
<add

connectionString="Dsn=Excel Files;dbq=E:\Unit Test\AddClass\AddUnitTest\sum.xlsx;defaultdir=.;
driverid=790;maxbuffersize=2048;pagetimeout=60"
providerName="System.Data.Odbc"/>
</connectionStrings>
<microsoft.visualstudio.testtools>
<dataSources>
<add
name="ExcelDS_Addition"
connectionString="ExcelConn"
dataTableName="Addition$"
dataAccessMethod="Sequential"/>
<add

</dataSources>
</microsoft.visualstudio.testtools>

I select the shared datasource from the data source propeties dialog, test the connection and everything is good.
I add a dataset by selecting "use a dataset embedded in my report" option within the Dataset properties dialog.
I select the newly added data source, click the "Stored procedure" query type and drop down the list box and select my intended stored procedure.
the timeout for the dataset is "0" seconds.
I click the "OK" button and I'm presented with the parameters to the stored procedure.
I enter valid data for the parameters and click the "OK" button.
I then get the following error message after 30 seconds:
The problem is, all of the timeouts, that I'm aware of, have values of zero (no timeout) or high enough values that 30 seconds isn't even close to the timeout.
I think the smallest timeout we have is 120 seconds.
I have searched this site and many others and the solutions all involve altering the stored procedure to get the fields into report builder and then revert the stored procedure back to its original form.
To me, this is NOT a solution.
I have too many stored procedures that need to be brought into Report Builder.
I need a real solution.
Thank you for you time, Tim Caldwell.
Timothy E CaldwellI don't mean to be rude, but really, check to see if the stored procedure can return data rows???
Maybe I'm not being clear enough.
The stored procedure runs perfectly fine.
it runs perfectly fine in the production environment and the test environment.
I can access the stored procedure in several ways and have it return correct data.
I can even trick report builder into creating a dataset with parameters and run the stored procedure that way.
What I cannot do, is to get report builder to not timeout after 30 seconds on the initial creation of a dataset with a Query type of stored procedure.
I have seen this issues posted again and again and again on may different sites and the "solution" is to simplifiy the stored procedure by creating a stored procedure that has a create table and a select in the stored procedure and that's it. After
report builder creates the dataset the developer then has to replace the simplified stored procedure with the actual stored procedure and everything works fine after that.
HOWEVER, having to go through this process for 70 or more stored procedures is ridiculous.
It would appear that there is something within report builder itself that is causing this issue.
The SQL Script included is an example of a stored procedure that will not create fields create a dataset with fields and parameters in Report Builder 3.0:

GO

Problem with the data source and web.xml
I have an issue where JSC is removing my resource reference:
<resource-ref>
<description>Creator generated DataSource Reference</description>
<res-ref-name>jdbc/localOracleDatabase</res-ref-name>
<res-type>javax.sql.DataSource</res-type>
<res-auth>Container</res-auth>
</resource-ref>
from the web.xml and sun-web.xml.
The application has been working great in the IDE for months then wham, no more data source definition. I try and add the reference manually and the IDE takes it out. I am "NOT" adding it to the .xml's in the build area. Why is JSC removing the data source entry?This continues to be a problem. The only way that I can get around the problem is to drag a table from the data source onto the design pallete and then the datasource is added back to the web.xml. I can run fine for 10 or 15 runs then the entry is once again removed from the web.xml.
Help please! -
Create a data source and database tables using WSAD
Hi, guys:
the following is from a tutorial:
http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/websphere/techjournal/0306_wosnick/wosnick.html
"To create the data source and Cloudscape database tables automatically, right click on the HelloWorldServer in the Servers view, and select the Create tables and data sources menu item. A dialog will then display showing that the data source and database tables were created successfully (Figure 5)."
I am using WSAD 5.0 trial version. I cannot find Create tables and data sources menu item if I right click on the HelloWorldServer in the Servers view. I am wondering if this is because trial version does not have this feature?
regardsThis question is a little off topic but you may get a reply. Please note this forum is about Sun's J2EE SDK and its related technologies. You may have better luck posting your question to an IBM specific resource.

Use same report to print out different data sources on the fly.
Post Author: Lady101
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
We have 10 reports use diferent datasource( use views with different joint tables), but their print out format are identical. Is there a way to just use single report to run those 10 reports dynamically(the report can point to the right data source on the fly)? So that we can just change single report format when report format needs to be changed. Right now we have to change 10 reports format one by one.Another option would be to make a single pass in the Source Monitor and save a bunch of subclips. Here's a thread discussing keyboard workflows: Re: Question on making many Subclips in a fast way
If you name highlights with one base name and lowlights with another, it would be easy to drop each batch into its own sequence. -
Create a Generic Data Source and deploy a webservice on a domain using WLST
Hello for everyone,
I usually create generic data sources and deploy webservices on a wls domain by using the Administrator Console. I wonder if you can pass me a script sample to do this task by using WSLT. On the other hand, if you can pass me a "quick start" guide about WLST, this would be very helpful.
Additionally, may I be able to create groups, application roles and users to a domain by using WLST?
Thanks for your help.You can use standard infoobjects as well..
You can create a view on those R/3 tables and use this view for creating a generic datsource in RSO2 transaction..
Check the below pdf for delta in generic datasources

Creation of a generic extractor and data source for the FAGLFLEXA table
Hi All,
Need to create a generic extractor and data source for the FAGLFLEXA table to support AR reporting. This table contains the necessary profit center information to perform LOB reporting against the AR data.
Please advice on how to do this.
Regards, VishalHi Vishal,
Its seems a simple a work out.
1.Go to RSO2 & choose the relevant option ie. whether you want to create Transactional DS, Master Data DS or Text DS.
2. Name it accordingly & then create.
3. Give description to it & then give table name FAGLFLEXA.

i added 0AMOUNT in generic data source and in rsa3 i am seeing the data ..but i am not seeing any data in target table..
what would be the causeHi,
I guess you mean the target table in BW, correct?
First replicate your DSource in BW
Open your TRules. In tab Transfer structure/Datasource locate your field in the right pane (should be greyed, not blue); move it from to the left (to the transfer structure); reactivate and reload.
You should now see the field in your PSA table.
hope this helps...

CrystalRpts - Excel Data source, SQLServer2005 table. SQL Query behavior?
Greetings - What should be a simple report (with Excel 2007 spreadsheet as primary data source linking to a SQLServer 2005 table ) returns incorrect results. Query designed to select data from SQL Table with 'DATES >=' certain date, but data returned ignores the DATE qualifier.
Running DATE query manually against the SQL Table proves the data is correct.
Anyone notice problems with SQL Query behavior when mixing data sources? Thanks.Hello,
Take the SQL that works outside of CR and then create a new report and add all data sources. Now use a Command Object and paste in your SQL. YOu may have to play with adding each data source in a different order. If that works great if not you'll have to figure out a way to get all the data into one source.
I believe MS SQL Server can link multiple data sources and types. Check SQL Help file for more info it it is possible.
Thank you
Don
