Excel properties and methods

Hello all,
I have been doing a lot of LabVIEW/Excel work. I would like to know if there is a document which explains the allowable inputs to all of the Excel property nodes and methods.
For instance, with a property for Excel - Range - NumberFormat, I would like to know of all of the permissible inputs to the NumberFormat property node.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you greatly,
Cheers,
Ytass

  • Creating Properties and Methods for an exe built in LabVIEW

    Hi all,
    How do we create properties and methods for an executable built in LabVIEW.
    I know when building an exe, the "Enable ActiveX server" option in advanced has to be enabled.
    But after that how do we create Properties and methods for the activeX component.
    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    You cannot build your own COM specific properties and methods for the ActiveX interface in LabVIEW, the only thing exposed are the normal VI server properties and methods.

  • Using VI server from DIAdem script :: Syntax (documentation) for properties and methods of VI Server objects (for non-labview programmers)

    Hello all,
    I am using DIAdem 10.0 Advanced, LabVIEW 8.0 PDS. I would like to start a LabVIEW IHM from a VBS script. I use VI Server to call my VI from DIAdem.
    Here is the script and the VI I use (VI attached):
    Dim lvapp, vi, viPath, paramName(1), paramVal(1)
    Set lvapp = CreateObject("LabVIEW.Application")
    viPath = "C:\TEST\test.vi"
    Set vi = lvapp.GetVIReference(viPath)
    vi.FPWinOpen = True
    paramName(0) = "Input"
    paramVal(0) = 10
    paramName(1) = "Output"
    paramVal(1) = 0
    Call vi.Call(paramName, paramVal)
    Call lvapp.Quit()
    I found a similar example on your web site.
    Question 1:
    I need to know the syntax for all the other properties and methods of a VI object (method like Get or Set Control Value for example).
    Is a documentation (other than the LabVIEW help which is dedicated for LV programmers) exist in order to be able to use all the features of VI Server from another environment (CVI, VB, ...)?
    Question 2:
    Is it possible to call a VI with VI Server with the parameter "Wait until done" to FALSE? (run a VI asynchronuously from DIAdem)
    Thanks for your answer.

    Hello,
    I finally found a way to get the documentation of VI Server. I can view the "LabVIEW.TLB" type library file with a OLE/COM Object Viewer (a utility from the Windows SDK).

  • Trying to create and excel graph and having trouble finding properties and methods for active x.

    I am trying to use Active X in labview 7 to create an excel graph and the HasMajorGridlines property for charts is not in my menu. Where can I get this property and others that appear to be missing and what is a good resource (looking for anything, especially books) for for using activeX/Labview/excel together?

    I am not sure if there is a book or tutorial how to use excel with LabView. I ncluded a Vi which gives you access to the HasMajorGridlines property. I hope it gives you the clou how to work with excel obejcts...

  • Reader for Android SOM Doc Object missing certain properties and methods

    I have found, much to my chagrin, that although Adobe Reader for Android pretends to allow the filling of forms, the Scripting Object Model is missing essential pieces that have been present in the desktop version for many years.  Among these are the Doc object's numFields property and getNthFieldName() method.  I find this rather odd since the Doc object's getField() method is fully present and functional.
    Basically, I am now finding that time-tested, reasonably simple, forms that worked perfectly on the desktop are broken.
    If the Adobe Reader for Android can't provide forms functionality (including basic scripting) that is comparable to the desktop, it shouldn't pretend to allow this at all.
    Isn't one of the goals of Adobe Reader to provide a consistent user experience across platforms?
    Who would have expected that in the Android product you could get a field by name but not enumerate fields?  Guesswork should not come into play here.
    Question:
    Is there at least some sort of proper documentation for the limited subset of SOM supported by Reader for Android?

    Update: I've been able to make progress with the first route mentioned above: adding the mobilecomponents.swc and the mobile.swc theme to my web project
    Turns out that Flash Builder had led me wrong in this regard. Adding the mobile SWCs to your Library project with the "merged into code" setting results in the compiler warning:
    The swc '/Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.6/sdks/4.6.0/frameworks/themes/Mobile/mobile.swc' has style defaults and is in the library-path, which means dependencies will be linked in without the styles.  This can cause applications, which use the output swc, to have missing skins.  The swc should be put in the external-library-path.
    Seeing this the first time, I changed my linkage type to "External" and the warning went away. Then in my web project, I also added the mobile SWCs and set the linkage type to "merged into code" there. Flash Builder seemed happy with that approach, but upon running my application I got bizarre runtime errors (as mentioned above).
    Turns out that my first attempt was the correct way. Set the linkage type on the library project to "merged into code" and then don't re-link from your web project. Flash Builder will warn you about it but ignore the warning. Things seem to work pretty well for the most part now! I have an issue or two to look into (ex. List component doens't scroll) but things look pretty promising overall!

  • Setting properties and methods on dynamically added controls

    I'm trying to add a number of colorpickers and textareas to
    my app dynamically. Each item needs a separate id, and the
    colorpickers need to call an open() and change() method and pass
    the textarea id as a parameter along with the event.
    I'm a little baffled on how to set the methods, but my ids
    are setting successfully. Code attached.
    Any thoughts on how I can accomplish this?

    Hi,
    Adding an event listener is a bit different than the way you
    are trying to add. Please check out the modified code attached.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to open an excel template and display onto a table in Laview

    Hi all,
    I would like to open an excel template file. Once called up, I would like to display it onto a table in Labview. From there, I would like to write data to the colums or rows in it. Can I do that? What do functions do I need. Please show some steps....
    Many thanks.

    What you would like to do is very easily done with the Report Generation Toolkit for MS Office. It has slightly different VI that the NIReports llb, in the way that those VIs also support Word and Excel reports. If you dont have this toolkit, you will need to use the activeX properties and methods to set this up.
    If you would only like to open an Excel spreadsheet, you can use the File I/O VIs. To read an Excel tab deliminated file, use Read From Spreadsheet File.vi. One of its outputs is a 2D array that you feed into a LabVIEW table. Once you have the data in a LabVIEW table, you can just treat as a 2D array, and perform array functions on it to manipulate with the data
    If you do have the toolkit, please look at the examples that ship with the toolkit.

  • How can I access the properties of Microsoft files (excel, ppt, and word)

    Hi,
    How can I access the properties of common Microsoft file formats (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint) from a Java program. You can access/modify the properties of each document type using File->Properties in each MS application. The properties are essentially name/value pairs.
    Basically, I need to write a java program that scans a directory and accesses the properties in each of the MS files in the directory.
    thanks,
    -john

    By api. That is only way to establish a contract with the MS programs you want to interface with, unless you write an api yourself! I've used POI and it was an awesome way to use Excel in java. I created an excel spreadsheet from the results of a sql query from a batch program and then it was automatically emailed using javamail to my client. I had a lot of VBA experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook and it didn't take me long to get used to using Jakarta-POI.
    Now I see there is Jakarta-POI-HWPF which works with MS Word documents. Go to: http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/

  • Exporting to excel properties

    Post Author: skootsu
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Is there any way to export information that is in the Report Summary (like Name of report, Manager, etc) to the properties of the excel spreadsheet that is created from exporting?  Example, I have lots of CRs that generate excel spreadsheets.  Some of the excel files are generated from multiple CRs using multiple datasources.  In the CR report summary I key in the Report Name, the Manager, Specifics about the report like 'CR1 of 2\Outfile:Inv1\CR2:Inv2'.  This helps when users ask to have a report re-run/updated.  In the excel file Properties I would like to get this infor carried over with the data.  So we can look at these properties on the excel file and tell where it came from.  Right now all of our excel files just read the name of the excel file, Author:'Crystal Decisions', and Comments:'Powered by Crystal'.  Any tips?  I would like this info to go in the properties so they are out of the way of the actual data on the report.  Thanks
    I am using CR XI

    Are you setting the size in the report? Are you using styles?

  • Author metadata separated by semi-colons truncated in file properties and "Get Info"

    I'm using Acrobat Professional 9.0 (CS3) for Mac to edit the metadata for a collection of PDFs to be made available on the web. When I enter the data, I am inputting a list of authors separated by commas, like this: Smith J, Watson C, Brown J. If I click on "Additional metadata", the data I've already entered is transposed into the various XMP fields. And the commas separating the author names are changed to semi-colons. I gather that this happens because XMP wants to separate multiple authors with semi-colons, and Acrobat wants the metadata in XMP fields to match the metadata stored for the file properties. Fine.
    However, if I save such a PDF and then use Get Info on my Mac (OSX 10.4) to look at the file properties, the list of authors is now truncated where the first semi-colon appears. The list is also truncated in Windows XP if I right-click and select properties. The list is also truncated when I look at the file properties in Preview on my Mac, or if I look at file properties using FoxIT, or using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or earlier. The only way a site visitor will actually be able to view the full list of authors in a file saved this way is to use Adobe Reader version 8 or later.
    I would like to preserve XMP/Dublin Core/etc metadata in the proper format in the XMP code, but would also like users of standard, popular file viewers to be able to access the full list of authors. Is there a way to do this with Acrobat 9?
    Also, once I've saved a file and the XMP metadata has been altered, Acrobat seems to permanently change the way that the authors are listed in the file properties. I cannot manually change those settings any longer without Acrobat overriding my changes and converting commas to semi-colons, or surrounding the entire list of authors in quotation marks. Is there a way to get around these Acrobat overrides and manually take control of my metadata again?
    Does Windows Vista read the authors list correctly in the file properties if it is separated by semi-colons?
    It seems to me that in an attempt to get XMP metadata working smoothly across the entire CS line, Adobe has jumped the gun somewhat and is now forcing Acrobat users to use "file properties" metadata that is really only fully compatible with Adobe products. Is there a way I can get some backwards compatibility on this?
    Thanks for any suggestions or insight anyone can provide to this vexing issue.
    Phil.

    Bridge has some pretty powerful and helpful features. However, I am unable to figure out how to access the non-XMP "file properties" fields through Bridge, and if I add metadata via Bridge, then I run into the same problem regarding the use of semi-colons to separate authors.
    If I had more time, or a larger set of files I might investigate the use of ExtendScript to import all my metadata from an Excel file (where it already exists) into the PDF file properties and XMP metadata.
    The best solution for my case though appears to be to use Acrobat 9 and to do the double-edit process for each file. I should be able to just cut-and-paste the metadata from the Excel file, and then if I save the Authors list to the end, I can simply paste it once into the XMP field (through the Advanced metadata button) and then return to the regular file properties page and paste it again in there, where Acrobat will add quotes around it.
    Lastly, if anyone else happens to find this post and is looking for similar information, I would recommend searching in the Bridge forum as well as the Acrobat forum.
    Phil.

  • JCo server programming, properties and connection settings

    Greetings, SAP professionals.
    The reason I come to this forum is that I'm hoping to gain some insights into the use of the SAP Java Connector (JCo). I am a developer who was tasked with making a new component for a systems integration application. As is typical of integration software, our app can link together various different systems using a variety of protocols, as well as providing the means to apply business logic on messages passed from one location to another. We already have a connector acting as an SAP client which was implemented using JCo. Now, we were asked to develop a new component: a server capable of accepting RFCs from a remote SAP system acting as client. The server is to be created using the JCo classes, so basically an extension of JCo.Server, with some logic for creating function templates from configuration files.
    However, while I'm understanding the structure of the Java API, it's not entirely clear to me just what the classes do. I've found the JavaDoc for JCo to be mostly descriptive of the interface of classes and methods, but not really explaining what these achieve, or how. So I'm hoping to be set straight, as I fear I'm kind of misunderstanding the functionality of JCo... Being mainly an integrations developer, I unfortunately often have to settle for gaining a superficial knowledge of a variety of systems to quickly interface with them, so I don't have any prior knowledge of SAP but still need to be able to implement something with JCo without too much delay.
    The most important question I have is this: when a JCO.Server implementation is started, does it act as a fully standalone component capable of receiving calls, or does it merely act as a sort of listener for some main SAP system? I'm not talking about a reliability on the two .dll files (or .so for Linux) that are required for the use of JCo, I just wish to know if the JCo package is entirely self-sufficient for server functionality or if it is intended to be linked to some SAP system.
    A second problem I have is that the parameters passed to various constructors aren't clear to me... I'm not familiar with SAP terminology, nor have I worked with any client apps that make use of an SAP system.
    The meaning of client strings, gwhost, gwservice, ashost, system IDs and program IDs mostly elude me, especially when it comes to knowing what client parameters must match what server parameters.
    In order to familiarize myself with the classes, I've tried playing around with them a bit trying to create a small test app that first starts a JCO.Server instance, then tries to make a remote function call to it with a JCO.Client (within the same class, for simplicity and debugging purposes). I was wondering if this actually makes sense... Would a JCo client be capable of connecting to a JCo server, all running purely in Java, or is that nonsense?
    To eliminate some common troubleshooting options, I'll quicly describe the steps I've taken:
    Both librfc32.dll and sapjcorfc.dll were placed in the Windows system32 folder. Maybe only librfd32 needs to be placed there, but I copied both anyway to make sure.
    The directory containing the jar file and both dll files is included in my environment path variable.
    I've added a line to the C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\services file as follows:
    sapgw00          3300/tcp                           #SAP System Gateway Port
    I've opened port 3300 in my Windows firewall. In fact, I also tested with the firewall completely turned off.
    However, I do not manage to get my test class to work. I've tried ports 3300, 3200 and 3600. I've tried various permutations of the client and server properties. I've tried removing the line from the services file, which would prompt the client to state upon connecting that the service "sapgw00" is unknown. When I add it back in, the error changes to "partner not reached", so it is definitely picking something up.
    The server itself starts just fine, but connecting through a client doesn't work. My class source code is posted below. Maybe what I'm trying to do doesn't make any sense, but at the moment it's my best guess.
    I realize this is a pretty long post and the class, while not exactly big, also implies a bit of reading of its own. But if anyone could give me any answers that are new to me, I'd be hugely grateful. Right now I'm kind of stuck, and just setting up the service and letting our customer test on it is a somewhat slow approach that can't match developing and testing on one and the same host.
    Preliminary thanks to everyone who took the effort to read this.

    If I understood you correctly, you want to provide a "service" that can be called from SAP. To provide this service you've chosen to implement an (external) RFC server program via JCo. One common method for RFC server programs is to register in SAP on the gateway - you do this by supplying the three parameters
    <ol>
    <li><b>jco.server.gwhost</b> -  SAP gateway host on which the server should be registered (so this would be the server name or IP address of the SAP gateway; localhost is only correct, if your RFC server program runs on the same server as the SAP gateway)</li>
    <li><b>jco.server.gwserv</b>  - Gateway service, i.e. the port on which a registration can be done</li>
    <li><b>jco.server.progid</b> - Program ID under which your RFC server program can be reached (free, made-up case sensitive name, that should represent the service your RFC server is providing)</li>
    </ol>
    So essentially you're creating a listener, that is registered in SAP and waits for any invocations. Within SAP they will define a <i>RFC destination</i>, which basically represents a TCP/IP connection pointing to the SAP gateway where you registered with the given program ID. If you want more details, check the SAP help pages for <a target="_blank" href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/22/04262b488911d189490000e829fbbd/content.htm">RFC destinations</a> (you're looking for destination type <b>T</b>, see explanations <a target="_blank" href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/22/042652488911d189490000e829fbbd/content.htm">here</a>).
    Usually gateway host and service (port) are given to you by the SAP basis folks and you tell them which program ID you're using. They will then enter those parameters in an RFC destination of type <b>T</b> in SAP. So no need for any of the client parameters you've mentioned. Although, I'd like to repeat, it's usually handy to also have SAP logon parameters maintained on your RFC server program, so that you can utilize the repository data from SAP (might be irrelevant in your case).
    Hope this clarifies it a bit...

  • InDesign suddenly stopped supporting properties or methods

    So I feel a bit silly having to ask this, but it seems that overnight (that is, between shutting down and turning on my work system), InDesign has abruptly stopped some properties or methods. Had I previously written a functioning script using, amongst others, styleExportTagMaps.add and epubExportPreferences, they now return the standard "object doesn't support the property or method' error. I'm running InDesign 5.5 with the 7.5 Object Model.
    Some example usage:
    myPGS_CH.styleExportTagMaps.add({exportType: "EPUB", exportTag: "h1", exportClass: "h1", exportAttributes: ""});
    myDocument.epubExportPreferences.includeDocumentMetadata = true;
    Any directions as to what might have changed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Julian

    So to answer my own question, for anyone who might stumble upon the same problem in the future: the problem laid in that I was using glue code, which set the app.scriptpreferences.version to 6 - a version which didn't support said functions. Simply remove this line from your glue code or set it to a more current version to remedy the problem.
