Exception handling in Web Services

Hi all,
I am exposing ejb2-based webservices and am unable to find a way to throw checked Exceptions.
Could anyone provide resources about how to leverage SOAP/WSDL features of exception handling (i.e. wsdl:fault tag)?
Thanks, regards
Vincenzo

Hi, thanks for replying
actually on saphelp I found that supported Exceptions are:
java.lang.Exception -> no fault generated
java.rmi.RemoteException -> deploy refused with explicit error (RemoteException not allowed in ejb business method signature)
java.lang.Throwable -> doesn't seem very appropriate to use such a root class
Any suggestion?
Thanks, regards
Vincenzo

  • Fault Handling in Web Services

    Hi,
    Can anyone please point me to any document which explains about the fault handling in Web Services using Bottom-up Approach?
    Thanks

    Can you give some further information?
    Do you want to throw a fault an your webservice and you are asking how this fault is seen by the service requestor? If you throw a exception it is mapped to
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <definitions name="RuntimeFault" targetNamespace="http://schemas.oracle.com/bpel/extension" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/">
    <message name="RuntimeFaultMessage">
    <part name="code" type="xsd:string"/>
    <part name="summary" type="xsd:string"/>
    <part name="detail" type="xsd:string"/>
    </message>
    </definitions>
    Have you tried

    This is top down but perhaps you can learn from it.

  • Handling Java Web Service Exception in ABAP

    Hi
    I have created a web service in Java using NWDS.
    Which has a businessMethod which throws a Exception based on certain business logic.
    I have consumed this  Web Service Method using .NET Client.
    i am able to catch the Exception and get the Exceltion Message.
    But when i try to consume the same web service Method in ABAP,
    i am not getting the Exception Message .
    The Method call works fine.
    What am i missing here ?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi,
    Upon further investigation and comparison of the custom exception object (generated during consumer proxy creation for a CUSTOM web service) with a standard exception object(generated during consumer proxy creation for a STANDARD web service) I found that the sub-elements of the exception structure errorPart are not available in the custom exception object (and one of these sub-elements is the message text).
    Call Stack,ExceptionName and MessageText Elements are missing in the errorPart node of Exception
    Node. as seen in the ABAP Exception structure generated.
    Queries:
    1.       Are there any standards which need to be followed when coding exceptions in the Java web service for consumption in ABAP such that all sub-elements of the exception object are also created in ABAP during the proxy creation?
    2.       Can we get the Java code for a standard web service available in SAP Netweaver? Asking the same as the exception object created for the standard web service RoomABAPWS contains the sub-elements. Getting the Java code of the same will be very helpful in resolving the issue.

  • Exception when calling web service from Oracle forms 10g

    Hi All,
    I am trying to integrate Oracle Forms 10g(V 10.1.2.0.2.) with Web Services.
    There is a java class named 'authenticate' which is generated using Oracle JDeveloper.
    This class is included in the forms application by using "Import Java Class" feature.
    Forms built the following funtion based on that class:
    -- Method: authenticate (Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;
    FUNCTION authenticate(
    obj ORA_JAVA.JOBJECT,
    a0 VARCHAR2,
    a1 VARCHAR2) RETURN VARCHAR2 IS
    BEGIN
    args := JNI.CREATE_ARG_LIST(2);
    JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a0);
    JNI.ADD_STRING_ARG(args, a1);
    message('here1');
    RETURN JNI.CALL_STRING_METHOD(FALSE, obj, 'mypackage/AuthenticatorWebServiceServiceStub',
    'authenticate', '(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)Ljava/lang/String;', args);
    message('here2');
    END;
    However when the above code is invoked it shows the message 'here1' on the form and then throws the following exception: java.lang.Exception: java.lang.ClassCastException
    Please suggest me what's wrong with the code. I appreciate your time and help.
    Thanks,
    Scott.

    My primary skill is PL/SQL but the only information I found on Oracle's site to call a web service from a 10g Form was creating a jar file and importing the java class. Since I don't want to ask our corporate IT to make changes on the UNIX box for the jar files I went a different route.
    I use UTL_HTTP.BEGIN_REQUEST to call a URL then load I load the data to a table as a CLOB since we have more than 4000 characters. Now I need to parse the XML and load it into a form. I have never done this so if there is a helpful site please let me know. I have looked at several sites but none do what I want.
    Thanks

  • CX_SY_CONVERSION_NO_DATE_TIME:XSLT exception when calling Web Service

    I have created a Web Service on our Sandbox SAP server and am attempting to call it from our DEV SAP Server.  The returning structure contains date fields that sometimes are null. A null date field in SAP is equal to 00000000.
    When I call the Web Service and the date values are null, I get the following exception:
    CX_SY_CONVERSION_NO_DATE_TIME:XSLT exception.An error occurred when deserializing in the simple transformation program /1SAI/TXS982F8A669D1A54B7AD0D.
    Value 0000-00-00 is not a valid date in accord with the XML format for ABAP
    I would not expect to see this type of error, sense the call is between two SAP systems.
    Is there anyway to fix this without moving space to any null date field in the function module?
    That's kind of annoying to do sense I have so many date fields.
    Example:
    IF date1 IS INITIAL.
        MOVE space TO date1.
    ENDIF.
    IF date2 IS INITIAL.
        MOVE space TO date2.
    ENDIF.
    IF date3 IS INITIAL.
        MOVE space TO date3.
    ENDIF.
    IF date4 IS INITIAL.
        MOVE space TO date4.
    ENDIF.

    Hi All,
    I got a solution for this exception. Hope it will help to all facing this problem.
    I was using proxy created from SE80.
    In my proxy for exporting parameters of methods I have changed all date fields.
    Earlier it was having Techn. type under Attributes of fields : XSDDATE_D. I chnaged this to DATS.
    It worked fine.

  • How to use an ABAP exception as a web service fault

    Hi experts,
    I have created a web service out of an ABAP function module, using the SAP standard wizard for web services. The ABAP function has some exceptions defined. Now the question is: How can I "translate" these ABAP function exceptions to web service faults?
    In the WSDL file I can see that the web service defines the faults, but they are not part of the web service operation (in the WSDL file). So when I load the definition into JDeveloper, the faults are not recognized.
    Any ideas what I am missing here?
    Thanks in advance!
    Kind regards, Matthias

    Exceptions from SAP function module are not translated as web service fault message, this is a standard behaviour due among other to the fact that exceptions are not "in line" with the definition a web service fault message.
    Usually when you want to use a standard SAP function module and expose it as web service, you need to "wrap-it" into a new Z function module.
    In that new function module you must capture the exceptions and convert them into a web service fault message structure (usually containing error type, text and number)

  • Exception Handling in Web Center for UI related Errors not working.

    Hi Guys,
    I have implemented Error Handling in ADF Application with Custom Model Exception Handler ( which is "CustomExceptionHandler extends DCErrorHandlerImpl") to catch all Model Layer Exception and to customize those error messages.
    I have implemented Error Handling in ADF Application with Custom View Exception Handler ( which is "CustomViewErrorHandler extends oracle.adf.view.rich.context.ExceptionHandler";) to catch all View Layer Exception and to customize those error messages.
    The design for this is , in Model Custom Exception Handler i find the exception message in "public String getDisplayMessage(BindingContext bindingContext,Exception exception) " method and throw RuntimeException to pass this exception to Custom View Layer Exception , so that i can handle all the exception @ View Layer it self .
    In the View Layer Exception Handler i am navigating to specific error page using
    String contextPath = ((HttpServletRequest)FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequest()).getContextPath();
    ExternalContext ectx = facesContext.getExternalContext();
    ectx.redirect.
    All these things absolutly working in ADF Application for all the exception ( Model , View ) and i am successfully navigating to error page.
    Problem  :
    When i implement the same thing in Webcenter Application ( Model Custom Exception Handler and View Custom Exception Handler), Model Part is working as expected , but View Custom Exception Handler is not all calling .
    i am assuming that ,this View Custom Exception Handler (CustomViewErrorHandler extends oracle.adf.view.rich.context.ExceptionHandler) works only for JSF Life cycle

  • Java exception when invoking web service

    I am using JDeveloper 10.1.3.04 to deploy a PL/SQL function as a web service to 10gIAS. I can deploy the service, but when invoking it from the endpoint my SOAP output looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    - <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema">
    - <SOAP-ENV:Body>
    - <SOAP-ENV:Fault>
    <faultcode>SOAP-ENV:Server.Exception:</faultcode>
    <faultstring>java.lang.NullPointerException</faultstring>
    <faultactor>/GetAmountContextRoot/MyWebService1</faultactor>
    </SOAP-ENV:Fault>
    </SOAP-ENV:Body>
    </SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
    Deploying what is essentially the same web service to the OC4J instance that comes with JDeveloper, my SOAP returns the expected value:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ns0="http://devl29ieda/MyWebService2.wsdl/types/"><env:Body><ns0:returnAmountResponseElement><ns0:result>305249</ns0:result></ns0:returnAmountResponseElement></env:Body></env:Envelope>
    I believe the problem is within the Java code created by the Web Service Wizard, but I do not know where.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Steven

    Hi Steven,
    You may want to look at the log on the server side to see if you have any hint that may help you track down where the NPE is comming from.
    As you are using PL/SQL function, the other think you want to check is that the datasource information are properly defined in both environment.
    Hope it helps,

    HelloClient(using JWSPD1.6)->gateway(web service manager for securing the web service using message level security through certificate )->helloservice(deployed using JWSDP1.6)
    I would appreciate if someone could tell me the cause of this errror.Thanks.

    J.See if this works for you. Have your service impl class also
    implement javax.xml.rpc.server.ServiceLifecycle. Then you'll
    have to add an init() and destroy() method (see the javadocs).
    If you declare a ServletEndpointContext field, then in
    init you can do
    public void init(Object context) {
    myServletEndpointContext = (ServletEndpointContext) context;
    and in subsequent methods do
    myHttpSession = servletEndpointContext.getHttpSession()
    (don't do this part in init, do it during business method calls)

  • Exception mapping for Web Services

    Hi,
    I'm exposing a method of an EJB as a web service (EJB 2.0, JBoss 3.2.1 and JBoss.NET, i.e. Axis) but I have a problem with exceptions. My method can throw an Exception which is quite complex (it can contains a Collection of error objects) and Axis can't automatically produce a correct WSDL neither it can serialize all the exception's content. I tried writing my own Axis serializer for the exception but it didn't work...
    I'd like to have a .NET client catching the Exception.
    Does anybody know how can I map complex exceptions for a J2EE Web Service? Or where can I find an example of interoperability with the mapping of complex exceptions?
    Thanks,
    Andrea

    Hi Holger,
    I will not translate the coding into VB. So if you want to do this it is OK with me.
    An idea would be after some testing by the community to provide the functionality as a DLL. This way it could also easily be added to a VB project.
    However I assume that some developers prefer to integrate the coding themselves so that they might add additional customer specific functionlity.
    For example not to raise an exception if a specific error is in the return parameter because they want to ignore it.
    Best regards,
    Andre
