Exception in Tomcat 4.1

Getting the following exception in Tomcat 4.1
I know, there's something to be done with servlet-api.jar or jsp-api.jar.
Kindly help me out. This exception is driving me crazy out here.
javax.servlet.ServletException: javax.servlet.jsp.tagext.TagAttributeInfo.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;ZLjava/lang/String;ZZ)V

I'm getting that same error, I'm using the core taglib from sun. It works fine with the standalone tomcat server, but I get that error with tomcat 5.5.7 that is bundled with netbeans. Here is the error message I get:

    Why Tomcat will throw "Premature end of file." exception?

    Because likely you're getting an empty document. Hence "premature end of file", which can be read differently: "I expected more data".
    So yeah, good luck proving that what I say is true and figuring out WHY that happens.

    running standalone requires an environment variable CATALINA_HOME and the path $CATALINA_HOME/bin for startup. maybe eclipse doesn't do it for you but you might check out the tomcat site

  • Handling runtime Exceptions in tomcat / struts

    Hi, I'm trying to find a way to cleanly handle exceptions in struts/tomcat. I've read a number of suggestions in my struts book, but none seem to work.
    What I've done is created an instance within my action class that deliberatley creates a NullPointerException. I want to be able to display an errorPage at this point, but whatever I do I just get the same horrible HTTP Status 500 error.
    Can anyone give any advice with this please?

    Check out the org.apache.struts.action.ExceptionHandler class. Basically you extend this class, and override the execute method. In the struts config file you add this entry...
    <global-exceptions>
    <exception
    handler="the pathname of the class that extends ExceptionHandler"
    key="message properties entry"
    path="error page jsp"
    scope="request"
    type="type of Exception you want to catch (Throwable)"/>
    </global-exceptions>
    This basically acts as a "catch all" global exception handle.

  • Exception in Tomcat

    I have a Java application that authenticates a user in the OID. As a desktop application the code works as expected. I used the same piece of code in a webapp deployed in OC4J an it still works as expected. When I deployed the app in Tomcat 4.1 and Tomcat 5.5 I got the same peculiar exception :
    "oracle.ldap.util.UtilException: Unable to set Password Policy controls"
    through debugging i discovered that the exception is raised when i call the oracle.ldap.util.User.authenticateUser method.
    There is a piece of the code:
    InitialDirContext ctx = OIDManager.getConnection();
    User myuser = new User(ctx, Util.IDTYPE_DN, uname + "," getUsersNode(), null, false);
    myuser.authenticateUser(ctx, User.CREDTYPE_PASSWD, pwd);
    Is there a way to bypass the error? Do I have to alter my Tomcat configuration in order to have the app running ok?
    Thanx

  • Uncaught exception puts tomcat on 100% CPU

    Hi all,
    we have a JSF 1.1 application on Tomcat 6.0.13 and have a problem with exceptions. In fact when an uncaught exception occurs, it is logged but then afterwards tomcat gets stuck in 100% CPU for garbage collection.

    Is there any possibility to catch these exceptions and prevent tomcat from blocking the whole application?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Our application use Tomcat 4.1 , I tried using the solution provided by you but it does not work , j2sdk1.4.1_05 is being used , since i am also facing the same problem , tomcat consumes a lot of memory and the application is very slow

  • Unhandled exceptions and tomcat...

    I have an app which occasionally causes null pointer exceptions because of invalid data coming out of my database. Currently I don't trap this in any way, because the condition is pretty rare.
    However, I've noticed that after a while, my tomcat hangs, and sometimes I get the 'all threads busy' error.
    So the question is, what happens to tomcat threads that crash as a result of an unhandled exception ? Are they lost forever ? Could this be whats causing my problem ?

    I'd go find the root cause of that NPE and fix it if I were you.

  • NoClassDefFound causing servlet exception on Tomcat 4.1

    This has got to be something stupid I am doing wrong but I'm a little rusty so could someone help me out. When executing a servlet on Tomcat 4.1 I get the error:
    javax.servlet.ServletException: Cannot allocate servlet instance for path /docmgt/servlet/Remail
    ROOT CAUSE:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: SimpleAuthenticator
    The Class file "SimpleAuthenticator" is just returning a username and password for a mailserver authentication. It is called from the servlet "Remail". I thought that all you had to do was place the class file into the same directory with the servlet for it to be able to access it...since that didn't work, I placed it in all the shared library folders of Tomcat and it still isn't working.
    Any ideas?
    thanks in advance,
    Chuck

    With tomcat4.1 try putting the file into a package, put the package directory under WEB-INF/classes and importing the class inot your servlet.

  • Cannot create DataSource, Exception in Tomcat 4.1

    I am running into a major problem with Tomcat4.1 trying to access a Datasource.
    I referenced about 7 articles one of which has the subject "Cannot create JDBC driver of class '' for connect URL 'null', cause..."
    but he is using Tomcat 5. I even tried to simulate his solution to mine but still no use.
    I tried to connect to the database the old fashion way and it worked... I get connected (JDBC connection w/o Datasource).
    I changed the XML many times but with no luck. I must be doing something stupid that I can't see.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.... I ran out of solutions...

    Thanx for reply
    i got some R&D in some one of my colleagues with same application war, it was there then working.
    at that end also Tomcat & Jdk were same.
    at the last i found that some time before, there was a Tomcat 5 window installed server at my machine.
    I had removed that properly and checked the CLASSPATH & PATH before facing my myFaces 1.2 problem.
    next with some guesses i installed again Tomcat 6 window installer, and now myfaces 1.2 listener problem resolved.
    i guess earlier it was taking some association with past Tomcat 5.
    now can you advices me some tips to overcome this kind of tomcat environment related problems in future,
    also i want to run same with Tomcat 6 Bin installed server also.

  • Exception when using RMI in tomcat 5.5, after reloading webapp

    When I freshly start tomcat and deploy my web app, I can use RMI by creating a local registry and binding my objects.
    However, as soon as I reload the web application, RMI no longer works and gives me this exception:

                IRemoteManager remoteManager = (IRemoteManager)Naming.lookup(RemoteManager
                        .getRMIResource("127.0.0.1", 1099));Trying set a RMISecurityManager breaks tomcat horribly by the way, but since RMI works with a fresh tomcat startup, I suppose there's no problems there.

    Hi all!
    I get the same Exception using Tomcat 5.5. When registering an object outside tomcat lookup works fine. Only when registering an object inside a webapp!
    Would be great if anyone got a tip to solve it!

    I have ordered a 3GS, replacing my wife's 2G model. She will now get my 3G model. Do we have to change phone numbers or is there a way to move my 3G number with the 3GS and vice versa. It would be much better if that was possible.
