Exceptions storing in Oracle

Initially my code which was as follows:
Begin
  Begin
    p1( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
    Exception
    ------Exceptions handled;
     ----Log erros into table T  ;
  End;
  Begin
    p2( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
    Exception
    ------Exceptions handled;
----Log erros into table  T;
  End;
  Begin
    p3( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
  Exception
    ------Exceptions handled;
----Log erros into table T ;
  End;
EXCEPTION
------Exceptions handled;
----Log erros into table T ;
END;After making use of this example below:
SQL> create table t (v varchar2 (10))
Table created.
SQL> exec  dbms_errlog.create_error_log (dml_table_name => 't')
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
SQL> insert into t (v) values ('123456789012345') log errors into err$_t ('INSERT') reject limit unlimited
0 rows created.
SQL> select * from err$_t
ORA_ERR_NUMBER$ ORA_ERR_MESG$                          ORA_ERR_ROWID$  ORA_ERR_OPTYP$ ORA_ERR_TA V
          12899 ORA-12899: value too large for column                  I              INSERT     123456789012345

                : 10)
How can we make use of the code in stored procedures which try to insert ,update,delete ?
is the statement like ' insert into t (v) values ('123456789012345') log errors into err$_t ('INSERT') reject limit unlimited' applicable for only dml ?if not how can we use in this code below immediately after procedure?
Begin
  Begin
    p1( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
        ----Log erros into table T  ;
  End;
  Begin
    p2( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
   ----Log erros into table  T;
  End;
  Begin
    p3( a=>1,b=>2,c=>3);
  ----Log erros into table T ;
  End;
----Log erros into table T ;
END;Thanks

Where are you using a BULK COLLECT with a SAVE EXCEPTIONS that would initialize the SQL%BULK_EXCEPTIONS collection?
FYI: I never faced this issue in 10gr2 and 11gr2.Are you sure about that? If I run the code you posted in my 11.2 database, I get the same error

  • Reading an XML file stored in Oracle

    Is it possible to read an xml file stored in Oracle via Oracle methods?

    If by "read" you mean "read as text", then you can just select the document as a CLOB and return it.
    If by "read" you mean "read and parse", then you can use the Oracle XML Parser for PL/SQL to parse the CLOB into a DOM structure.
    My Building Oracle XML Applications book has lots of examples of doing this, but especially in chapter 5, "Processing XML with PL/SQL".

  • Problem to reproject data stored in Oracle through GeoServer

    Good morning
    I am currently trying to reproject some GIS data into the Antarctic Polar Stereographic projection. (see http://nsidc.org/data/atlas/epsg_3031.html)
    This GIS data to be reprojected has been stored into Oracle (Oracle locator) through mapBuilder or Spatial Console with no specified SRS.
    By default, in my GeoServer, the data is marked as having the SRS:4326 in order to calculate the geographical extension.
    When sending a request to my Geographical server (Geoserver 1.6.3) in order to reproject the data into the Antarctic projection (SRS:3031), i got a white page which means that the projection has not been done correctly.
    My URL to generate this map is: ..?service=WMS&version=1.1.1&request=GetMap&srs=EPSG:3031&format=image/gif&width=1000&height=1000&bbox=-12400000,-12400000,12400000,12400000&layers=fifao:fa_areas
    I know this URL is corrrect because it works perfectly when the data is stored in a shapefile format or in a table in PostGIS but not when it points to a table in Oracle.
    So i would tend to think that the problem is at Oracle level.
    Moreover, i tried to specify some SRS when loading a shapefile in Oracle through MapBuilder or Spatial Console and the result is the same or even worst.
    In fact the GIS data stored in a table generated by MapBuilder with a 4326 SRS, can only be seen partially.
    If anyone could help me understanding why data stored in Oracle can not be reprojected while it works for other GeoDatabase or formats, i would be very grateful?
    Could it be related to the media i used to load shapefile? The fact that i have only a locator license?
    Many thanks in advance for your help and i hope it is clear enough.

  • Exception [TOPLINK-46] (OracleAS TopLink - 10g (9.0.4) (Build 031126))

    Hi,
    I am using TopLink for simple Department-Employee relation, i have my project xml configured, But i am facing the problem with following exception
    Descriptor Exceptions:
    Exception [TOPLINK-46] (OracleAS TopLink - 10g (9.0.4) (Build 031126)): oracle.toplink.exceptions.DescriptorException
    Exception Description: There should be one non-read-only mapping defined for the primary key field [emp.empno].
    Descriptor: Descriptor(com.oracle.mssql.emp.toplink.EmpTopLinkBean --> [DatabaseTable(emp)])
    Runtime Exceptions:
    What could be the reason?
    Thanks
    Madhu

    My best guess would be that you have a 1:1 mapping from Employee to Department. This mapping represents part of the primary key.
    Make sure that your 1:1 mapping is not configured as read-only. Another issue is that you may have set the relationship as target foreign key. This has the same effect as read-only and is not applicable in the 1:1 returning from a 1:M.

    This file I have stored in Oracle as table of XML Type.
    Now I have build a little Java Programm, that displays the XML File like the File structure in the Windows Explorer.
    I want, when I choose a file in the File structure, that the ID3 Informations like album artist a.s.o. can be displayed. My problem is, I couldn't get these informations e.g. in an array from the database. Any suggestions how I could realize this in Java?
    Thx for any comments
    Max

    Try this:
    select extract(xmltypefieldname, '//xpath/field@attribute').getStringVal() from yourtable where yourwhereclause
    You can also select elements that match certain attributes by using a predicate such as field[@attr = myval][@attr2 = myval2]...
    Hope this helps.

  • Accesss Files Stored in Oracle Files from Forms

    I am attempting to access the files that are stored in Oracle Files (oracle collaboration suite) from an Oracle Forms.
    To be more specific I am would like to implement a solution to access Files from Custom Form in Oracle Application(11i).
    Any suggestions/thoughts in this regard is very much appreciated.
    Pavan

    Hi we are on a project similar to this, basically you have two options:
    a) Use Java-Importer to include the necessary classes to interact with IFS (e.g. rename, delete or get informations about documents).
    b) Use a servlet to get files out-of and into IFS.
    Because we had to do a lot of "loading" and we didn't want to run a round at client side to sign our forms jar files we decided to use method b).

  • C# code stored in Oracle

    Has anyone heard of the following?
    http://www.oracle.com/goto/newsletters/netdev/0409/idc_interop-pdf.html?msgid=7590204
    An interesting capability first introduced in Oracle Database 10g is the ability to run
    .NET code as Oracle stored procedures. It is common knowledge that much
    enterprise application code continues to be developed and maintained in database
    stored procedures. Stored procedures provide a declarative (SQL) and thus highly
    compact and productive approach to development with the added benefit of a much
    lower impedance mismatch factor between database objects and types and
    application code objects and types. Thus, much of the business logic of many
    important applications was developed, mostly during the era of preapplication server
    client/server architectures when the network inefficiencies of putting code on the
    client were prohibitive. The emergence of standardized SQL in the late 1980s and
    early 1990s provided an easy and productive alternative, but writing application code
    in SQL is a skill that seems to be increasingly lost to the more procedurally oriented
    world of application developers. What’s more, the set of tools and capabilities (e.g.,
    version, configuration, and project management) were largely absent for this type of
    code, at least in anything resembling an integrated manner. Thus, to retain the
    benefits of code that is tightly coupled to the database and provide languages more
    familiar to the typical application developer, a desire emerged to support stored
    procedures in multiple languages. Oracle was early to the game in the mid-1990s with
    Java stored procedures, and then with SQL Server 2005, Microsoft began to integrate
    the .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR) with the SQL Server stored procedure
    engine. Not to be outdone, Oracle invested in similar engineering skills to additionally
    support CLR stored procedures in the Oracle database. Today this capability is
    available in the form of Oracle Database Extensions for .NET. While the jury is out on
    whether such capabilities, for any database, will become mainstream approaches to
    application development, there are applications that are simultaneously database and
    algorithmically intensive in an intertwined fashion that can benefit greatly from them.
    Thus Oracle has continued to maintain this capability and further supports it with the
    deployment mechanism in the Oracle Developer Tools profiled earlier.This majority of this article focused on running Oracle in a Windows Server environment. Would that be required to run C# code, as mentioned above?
    Thanks,
    --=Chuck

    Maybe I should've waited before I posted. We're adopting .NET (WinForms) as our primary Development environment, and this was a feature I'd never heard of. Turns out, we're running Oracle on LINUX, so this doesn't work for us without changing O/S's.
    Maybe my question should have been ...
    For those who have worked with procedures stored in Oracle, written in C# or VB, has it worked well for you? Or is it a relatively underutilized feature? I'm asking, because I am always a proponent of writing business rule logic in PL/SQL in the database tier, but our Applications Manager is concerned that it's tougher to find job applicants with PL/SQL skills - than with C#/VB skills. So he likes the code in a middle tier. This would seem to be the best of both worlds (even if you went to yet another Application Development platform, like ColdFusion, which, since it interacts with the db, it would in-turn also call this C# code).

  • Extracting Tiff files stored into Oracle 8.1.7 as Long Raw

    I have around 1 million tiff images stored into Oracle 8.1.7. The field type is Long Raw. The frontend used to store images into the database is SQL Windows 5 from Gupta Corporation, now called Centura. I guess the images are stored in binary format in the database. I need to extract these images at the OS level. Each Rec_no contains one tiff file in database. The table structure is as follows:
    Rec_no Number(8)
    image Long Raw
    My goal is to convert these tiff files to JPG files so that my web application written in ASP.Net can use them and show in IE. The files are required to be converted to jpg as IE does not have native support for showing the tiff files(I hope I am not wrong in this assumption). Can i convert these tiffs to jpg directly inside the oracle database??? or i need to extract them first, save at OS level, convert them and then write back to the database?? Pls give code examples if possible. I plan to migrate the database also from 8i to 10g shortly and this is one of the migration taks. Thanks in advance...

  • XML Parsing in Java Stored Proc--Oracle XML Support Installation?

    I am working with a third party product that is having difficulty running a java stored proc that is parsing a supplied XML file. The proc basically looks like:
    import java.io.IOException;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder;
    import javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilderFactory;
    import javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError;
    import javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException;
    import org.w3c.dom.Document;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    InputStream is = getXMLAsInputStream(xml);
    try {
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory =
    DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    Document document = builder.parse( is );
    ... parse the document ....
    catch (FactoryConfigurationError e) {
    // unable to get a document builder factory
    We are running on 9.2.0.6, HP-UX 64-bit. At first, when we would attempt to run the proc, a database hang would occur; now after attempting to install using loadjava jars for xerces2.6: ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    javax.xml.parsers.FactoryConfigurationError: Provider
    org.apache.xerces.jaxp.DocumentBuilderFactoryImpl not found)
    The vendor says that the errors we are getting when running are not due to any dependency on xerces or jre1.4, and that we need to "install Oracle XML support", but I'm not certain what this means (I cannot find any documentation on what to install). I believe that there are jars that need to be loaded into the database to support the XML parsing, as jre1.3 does not include built-in XML support, and Oracle 9.2.0.6 uses jre1.3.
    So...does anyone have any thoughts as to how to resolve the missing references? Is there a way to "install Oracle XML support", or is it to install the necessary jars?
    Thanks,

  • Io Exception connecting to Oracle from apache-tomcat-6.0.14 - weird problem

    Hi all,
    I'm in a desperate situation here. Trying to solve this problem for a week now. I have searched all over the internet but coul not find any solution. I developed an application using netbeans 5.5.1 with VWD pack and it works fine. The application accesses an oracle db on another server which works fine on my development machine. Now I deployed to oracle 9i and apache-tomcat-6.0.14 on a solaris machine and encountered this error :
    java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    on further troubleshooting I tried this code on the server.
    java.sql.DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
    java.sql.Connection conn = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@servername:1521:sid", "username", "pswd");
    and it works alright. The connection was established wothout error.
    But when I try
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver").newInstance();
    javax.naming.Context init new javax.naming.Context();
    javax.naming.Context ctx = (javax.naming.Context)init.lookup("java:comp/env");
    javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ctx.lookup("jdbc/dataSource");
    java.sql.Connection conn = ds.getConnection();
    I still get the same io Exception error.
    Now I need to fetch the values from the context file, because my application uses :-
    CachedRowSetXImpl portal_tabsRowSet= new CachedRowSetXImpl();
    CachedRowSetDataProvider portal_tabsDataProvider= new CachedRowSetDataProvider();
    as follows :-
    portal_tabsRowSet.setDataSourceName("java:comp/env/jdbc/dataSource");
    portal_tabsRowSet.setCommand("SELECT * FROM PORTAL_TABS");
    portal_tabsRowSet.setTableName("PORTAL_TABS");

    Please help!

    I haven't studied your problem in detail and don't actually use Tomcat 6, but in earlier versions of Tomcat the handling of JNDI leaves a lot to be desired. If you search this forum for posts about Tomcat and JNDI, you will find some useful information.
    One thing I found was that you really need to use the context.xml file in your Meta-inf directory, putting the datasource anywhere else gets into one kind of trouble or another. I tried using server.xml, a context file for the application and the web-inf file.

  • How to open a BLOB column stored in oracle using OLE wrappers

    Hello friends
    I have a strange problem, I have OLE objects like, *.doc, *.xls, *.bmp etc all these files have been embedded in oracle database using OLE2.0 & wrapping technology. Well I have to extract this data outof BLOB column from Oracle database & store it in OS file in its respective format
    For Eg. If the BloB data which has been embedded in Oracle database using OLE2.0 & wrapping is of *.doc file then the OS file which I have stored after extraction I should be able to open in MS word.
    Well in this task I am able to extract the file using GETCHUNK feature from VB , but I am not able to open the OS file in MS word as it is saying the error
    the document you are trying to open is not supported by MS Word
    So please any one of you can help me to solve this problem I wil be very helpful. also if you have suported code for ths problem It is welcome
    Not only using VB if you have code of any other langauges also itis welcomed
    Thanks

    Please "Preview" your future posts. Your formatting is awful. Especially learn to use the [ code ] tags.
    Are you sure DateTime.Now.ToString() returns a string in the format of 'MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI:SS.FF3'?
    Fix that and if you still having the problems, debug the actual result of your string.Format() and post that.

    And in MOS, I found below related metalink note, But I think my case is not same with the description in that note, bcz the reponsibility I provided is not null, and should be a correct value.

    Hi, PaulTian ,
      Have you find the solution? I have the same problem, and it world not be responsibility reasons. The webservice worked well ,but it stopped when applied a patch.

  • Getting exception using 11G oracle driver

    upgraded oracle database from 10G to 11G, and I made the following changes in my application for 11G:
    - Updated [ORACLE_HOME]/jdbc/lib/ojdbc6.jar to the CLASSPATH
    - Application uses JDK 1.6 (compilation & runtime)
    I started 20 instances of my application on Linux box and half of the application instances failed & threw the following exceptions, but when I used 10G Oracle client jar, all the instances comes up fine. Why is 11G Oracle client jar behaving differently than 10G jar? Why am I able to bring only 10 instances up and not all (20) when i used 11G Oracle jar file?

  • Uploaded Files stored in Oracle 10G database or in Unix File system

    Hey All,
    I am trying to understand best practices on storing uploaded files. Should you store within the database itself (this is the current method we are using by leveraging BLOB storage) or use a BFILE locator to use the files system storage (we have our DB's on UNIX) . . .or is there another method I should be entertaining? I have read arguments on both sides of this question. I wanted to see what answers forum readers could provide!! I understand there are quite a few factors but the situation I am in is as follows:
    1) Storing text and pdf documents.
    2) File sizes range from a few Kb to up to 15MB in size
    3) uploaded files can be deleted and updated / replaced quite frequently
    Right now we have an Oracle stored procedure that is uploading the files binary data into a BLOB column on our table. We have no real "performance" problems with this method but are entertaining the idea of using the UNIX file system for storage instead of the database.
    Thanks for the insight!!
    Anthony Roeder

    Anthony,
    First word you must learn here in this forum is RESPECT.
    If you require any further explanation, just say so.
    BLOB compared with BFILE
    Security:
    BFILEs are inherently insecure, as insecure as your operating system (OS).
    Features:
    BFILEs are not writable from typical database APIs whereas BLOBs are.
    One of the most important features is that BLOBs can participate in transactions and are recoverable. Not so for BFILEs.
    Performance:
    Roughly the same.
    Upping the size of your buffer cache can make a BIG improvement in BLOB performance.
    BLOBs can be configured to exist in Oracle's cache which should make repeated/multiple reads faster.
    Piece wise/non-sequential access of a BLOB is known to be faster than a that of a BFILE.
    Manageability:
    Only the BFILE locator is stored in an Oracle BACKUP. One needs to do a separate backup to save the OS file that the BFILE locator points to. The BLOB data is backed up along with the rest of the database data.
    Storage:
    The amount of table space required to store file data in a BLOB will be larger than that of the file itself due to LOB index which is the reason for better BLOB performance for piece wise random access of the BLOB value.
