Exchange Management Tools? Hybrid Exchange 2010 SP3 - Exchange 2013 (Office 365 - Exchange Online)

When running in Hybrid mode... is there any advantage to installing the Exchange 2013 server management tools on my machine versus the Exchange 2010 management tools?
Any advantages/disadvantages?
I still do have some on premises mailboxes that need to be migrated to the cloud (Exchange Online).
Thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?

Hi Viva,
We don't have Exchange Management Console in Exchagne 2013 in all the web interface we used in Exchange server 2013. In Exchange 2010 we are having Exchange management console. Hence we can able to access exchange 2010 and 2013 both on the same server.

  • Managing User Photos with On Premise Lync 2013 & Office 365

Hello, I'm just looking for a little clarity in terms of expected behavior when using the various methods of modifying user images on these systems.
For example, I've read that Lync 2013 can utilize the high resolution photo that is stored within the user's Exchange mailbox. That would work good in theory, but what about Lync users who do not have an Exchange mailbox (or UM voicemail box)? Presumably
in that case you could use one of the AD attributes, thumbnailPhoto or jpegPhoto, the latter being preferred as it allows for higher resolution images. However in my experience, when using the jpegPhoto attribute, dirsync does successfully replicate the photo
and it shows up on the O365 portal, but the on-premise Lync server/clients have inconsistent success displaying them. Some user's can see other user's photos, but they can see eachothers or vice versa and eventually the Lync client stops displaying any of
    these photos.
Ideally for us, if we could use the jpegPhoto attribute for all users, as opposed to using exchange attributes for some, that would be best, but is it designed to work this way?

    Hi FuzzMunk,
I don’t think that Lync Server will
    synchronize the photo from
    JPEGPhoto attribute, as I know
it only synchronizes the photo from
    thumbnailPhoto attribute in Active Directory.
You can see the photo displayed on Office365 portal
because it synchronizes the photo from both the
    thumbailphoto and jpegphoto attributes.

  • Virtualise Exchange Management Tools 2010 SP3

    Good Morning,
I hope this is a simple one to answer as I'm struggling and I can't really figure out why.
Previously I have been able to Sequence Microsoft Exchange Management Tool SP1 and SP2 in App-V 4.6 SP1 on Windows 7 x64 Enterprise edition. My VM is a basic build, and I've manually added the pre-reqs for the management tools prior to firing up the sequencer
(This is the IIS and .NET 3.5.1 options).
I'm finding that with the installer for Exchange Management Tools 2001 SP3, the Setup.exe fails, but only if the Sequencer is running (I get a setupUI.exe encountered an error type message).
Has anyone else tried to capture this a s a virtual app? Is it no longer possible or has anyone else come across this and solved this?
Any info is welcome. Please let me know if further detail is required - I've included what I think is relevant.
    Kind regards,
    Ed

    Hello,
What happens if you use the previous version of the App-V sequencer?

  • Exchange management tools error "reboot from a previous installation pending"

I am trying to install the Exchange 2010 Management Tools onto a client. We have Exchange 2010 running already elsewhere, but have been doing RDP to the server in order to add mailboxes, etc., need to have more administrators on their own Windows 7 client
    computers doing remote management.
Windows 7 Enterprise (64bit) client computer in same domain as Exchange servers, UAC disabled, logged in as a domain administrator. Fresh restart. No updates pending. Noticed article
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc164360(v=exchg.80).aspx "A Restart from a Previous Installation is Pending" and numerous posts that indicated I should
clear "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\UpdateExeVolatile" or clear "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations" - but neither of these keys
    exist on my computer!
Downloaded and unzipped Exchange2010-SP3-x64.exe to C:\Temp
    Ran C:\Temp\setup.exe
Checked off the options:  a) Error Reporting - Yes (Recommended). b) Custom Exchange Server Installation. c) Select "Management Tools". d) LEAVE UNSELECTED "Automatically install Windows Server roles and features required for Exchange".

Already have reviewed many articles on this topic, none seem to apply to my situation. I am going crazy trying to solve it.

As I've said this workstation meets the requirements for installation of the Management Tools. It is 64bit.
Thanks for the link to the exchangeserverpro.com installation instructions blog. It is something I had already reviewed. There are many comments with problems, so many in fact it is confusing what finally worked for people who ran into snags.
Many also reported the "reboot from a previous installation is pending" problem (that I am getting), but their solution to that problem is not obvious, since, as I originally posted, the Microsoft answer to that error message is contained in "http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc164360(v=exchg.80).aspx"
and the registry keys do not exist on my Win7 client. The other solution in the comments seemed to be to exclude the "Automatically install Windows Server roles and features required for Exchange" during install (but so far Ed and Rajith want
me to include that option). The blog is quite old, and so I hoped the SP3 for Exchange 2010 would have fixed the installer issues identified in the comments on that blog... but apparently not!
DNS is working in our environment. The IP address in the error message points to a network load balancer (NetScaler by Citrix) and does not respond on telnet using port 53... It is our standard DHCP-provided configuration for client DNS. (Does the
Exchange installer for Management Tools have some unique DNS requirements beyond normal name resolution? If so, does the Exchange admin need DNS admin rights?) Just to remove the load balancer from the equation, I changed my Win7 client network adapter settings
to use two real, physical actual Microsoft AD domain controllers to resolve DNS. I performed an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS. Then re-ran the Exchange 2010 installer. The specific error for DNS has gone away now that I am not using our enterprise's standard load balancer
DNS client configuation. I really need to know why this is an Exchange management tools requirement. Any ideas?
But still no-go on getting the Exchange 2010 Management Tools to install. Here are the latest errors on the Readiness Checks:

  • Migrate from Exchange Server 2010 sp3 to 2013 sp1

I have one Exchange Server 2010 SP3 server (300 mailboxes) installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 with three major roles on it (CAS, MB and HT) - typical installation. Edge Transport server is not installed thus for controlling of mail flow
Symantec Messaging Gateway Virtual Appliance is used as Smart Host. UM server is not installed either. I set up test domain environment where I installed one domain controller (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) and one Exchange Server 2010 SP3 (Windows
Server 2008 R2 SP1) at first place and yesterday I did everything necessary to install Exchange Server 2013 SP1 on new test virtual server running Windows Server 2012 R2 which I successfully did.
Now in test domain I have two Exchange Servers (2010 SP3 and 2013 SP1). Is there any 100% reliable documentation with all actions that had to be taken in order to successfully migrate Exchange Server 2010 SP3 to 2013 SP1? I would want to know what
needs to be done not only for my scenario but also for other scenarios (DAG, CAS array, Edge, UM, multiple HT servers . . .) since I am interested in digging deep into Exchange Server 2013.

  • Exchange 2013 Office 365 Hybrid Cloud On-Premise Outlook Connection Problem

    Hi Everyone,
We are required to migrate FROM the cloud TO an on-premise Exchange 2013 server.  We set up a trial of Office365 and linked our test domain to that account.  The test domain mimics our current domain, but ends in .net instead of .org.
We set up a test Exchange 2013 server with a few database servers.  Internally, we can connect without issue (Outlook).  We mapped our test CAS to face the Internet, and can access what we need without issue.  We also set up the Hybrid
configuration on both the Exchange 2013 and Office365 servers.  We have validated that DirSync works, and migration can occur up to the cloud and back down to the on-premise server.
    Now, here is the issue:
We have our DNS records still pointing to Office365, so when we add an Office365 mailbox to Outlook (internal to the network or outside the network) we see absolutely no issues.  We migrated a mailbox today to our on-premise server, but upon doing so,
can no longer connect to, or add, that mailbox to Outlook.  When we put this integration in to effect for production, we want to be able to migrate mailboxes on-premise from the cloud, and we want to make sure users can still access their mailboxes.  This
also goes for distribution groups, conference rooms, etc.
I see that most suggestions say to change your DNS record to point to the on-premise Exchange server, which is great, but after doing so Office365 accounts experience the same issue as above.  We NEED to make sure that when we batch migrate, the users
DO NOT lose connectivity to their accounts.  We need both Office365 accounts and Exchange on-premise accounts are accessible internally and externally.  As an extra tid-bit, we HAVE configured Outlook Anywhere on Exchange 2013, but see no difference.
Any thoughts on this?  Office365 and Exchange 2013 see eachother and recognize that the hybrid environment is set up good, but it appears we are missing some configurations.  Currently, we have a CNAME record points our autodiscover to autodiscover.outlook.com.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated.  Thanks!
    Dan

    Hi,
Here is an article on Move mailboxes between on-premises and Exchange Online organizations in 2013 hybrid deployments, for your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj906432(v=exchg.150).aspx
I want to make sure OWA works well with the moved mailbox.
To use CNAME based autodiscover method, we need to have all domain names present in a SAN certificate.
With Exchange 2013 CU1, we now have the option of adding multiple SMTP domains to Exchange Federation/Hybrid configuration and we can specify which of these domains should act the "autodiscover" domain.
To configure an SMTP domain as the autodiscover domain, you can run following command:
    Set-HybridConfiguration -Domains "domain1.com, domain2.com, domain3.com", "autod:domain.com"

  • Questions on managing Office 365/Exchange Online Mailboxes in Server 2012 Essentials

Wondered if anyone could answer a couple of queries:
When managing Office 365/Exchange Online mailboxes in Windows Server 2012 Essentials:-
    1. Does the server itself act as the Exchange server i.e. does it do all of the downloading/sending of emails or does Outlook on each workstation still communicate direct with the Office 365/Exchange Online server address?
    2. Does Outlook on each workstation have the Exchange server address set to the internal address of the Server 2012 Essentials box or does it still have the external Office 365/Exchange Online server address?
I don't work for Microsoft - I just use their products.

    Hi,
When you integrate Office 365/Exchange Online mailboxes in Windows Server 2012 Essentials, you can see the mailbox usage information on the Essentials Dashboard and manager users. However, the essentials server won't download/send emails and Outlook
will still communicate with the O365/Exchange Online Server. In addition, the Exchange server address would be point to the external server address.
You can also refer to the article below to get more related information:

  • Synchronize Lotus Domino Directory with Office 365/Exchange Online

I have someone who is asking me to migrate them from a Lotus Domino server to Office 360/Exchange online. However they want to maintain a sync between Lotus Domino Directory and Office 365/Exchange Online. I'm wondering if that is even possible
or would they need to have a regular Active Directory server act as a go between the two. Can anyone provide me some guidance/suggestions?
    Vincent Sprague

Curious, did you ever get this setup?
Reason I'm asking is I was involved with a large MSO365 migration (15k) from Lotus Notes. We had a separate AD forest just for email Dirsync. We involved a third party to setup the sync and migration between Notes and AD, and coexistence. It was rather complex.
Out of the box, it would have been extremely difficult.

  • Office 365 Exchange Account Deleted & Overwritten?

I've run into a problem where I need to recover an Office 365 Exchange account, but it doesn't exist in Deleted Accounts. Below is a summary of the events leading up to this problem:
An Office 365 account was deleted
A shared mailbox (using the exact same email address as the deleted account in step 1) was created
It was determined that there were email and contacts that needed to be saved from the original account
In the Deleted Mailboxes list, the deleted mailbox did not exist
    The shared mailbox was deleted
In the Deleted Mailboxes list, the deleted shared mailbox existed, but not the original
I'm currently in the process of using eDiscovery to try to recover the email from the account, but is there a way to actually recover the original account at this point?
I realize that the smarter option would have been to convert the original account into a shared mailbox, but at the time none of the old data was needed. Deleting the account was an easy way to clean out all of the old data.

  • Apple Mail with Office 365 Exchange server

Is anyone here using Apple Mail with Office 365 Exchange server on Mountain Lion? I have just upgraded to Mt Lion and decided to switch from Outlook to Apple Mail.app. My account was added successfully. Even contacts, calendar, tasks and notes work very well. My problem with Mail.app is that it does not sync any emails in subfolders prior to the day I added the account to Mail. For any older emails I have to open Outlook for Mac and look it up there. Other than this issue Mail is working well for all new incoming and outgoing emails.

You can nicely do this with Distribution Group or by Transport Rules. Distribution Group will be maybe the easy way.
You can referer to article Create and use distribution groups.
Basically, you create DL with address [email protected] and allow to receive e-mail from external sources. Then you add [email protected] as member of this group.
If you want also sent e-mails from this DL, you can use PowerShell to set rights for it.
