  • Redo Logs Groups and Members

    Hi -
I have a few questions regarding redo log groups and naming conventions I was hoping someone could address or point me to some docs.
I am multiplexing my control file and redo logs across HDDs for an XE installation.
The original logs created at install have the naming form of:
    O1_MF_1_462H1GK7_.LOG.
    1. What is behind the naming scheme (specifically the _462H1GK7_ section)?
    2. Is there a generally recognized naming scheme for adding new group members in XE?
    3. I noticed that with any XE install I have done, the redo logs groups default to Group 1 and Group 3, with no Group 2 to be found. Is this normal/required? If not, is it best to add group 2 and then remove group 3? I'm not sure if has much bearing here, but the 10gR2 docs state that skipping group numbers will consume space in the control files.
Thanks in advance for any assistance,
    Scott

The odd-looking filename is from using Oracle Managed Files (OMF). You can override the naming scheme or create your own groups and members. Very common to include "redo" in the file name along with group and member identifiers. An example would be:
    <path>/redo01a.log
    <path>/redo01b.log
    <path>/redo02a.log
    etc.
You can see group 01 has two members, a and b. Can also include the SID in the file name as well, but that can be identified via the path. 462H1GK7 is a unique identifier generated by Oracle. It has no meaning.
I don't know about XE not creating a group 2. Were there group 2 file(s) left over from a previous install (although the OMF probably would have ignored the existing files)? If creating the files manually, you can use "reuse" to use existing files.

  • Looking for good tool to report on unused Mailboxes, unused Distribution Groups, and unused Public Folders

I have evaluated the following products.
    Quest (Dell) MessageStats
    Enow
    StealthAudit
StealthAudit looked to be the best as they also group like mailboxes with like permissions for Office 365 migrations, but this was by far the most expensive.
We are looking to clean up our environment to eventually migrate to Office 365.  Any advice on a product that would report on unused Mailboxes, unused Distribution Groups, and unused Public Folders that would be great.
    d

    Hi,
In your case, you can use the following cmdlet to determine unused mailboxes. If a mailbox has never logged on, the Lastlogontime is empty.
    Get-Mailbox|Get-MailboxStatistics |fl DisplayName,Lastlogontime
Use the cmdlet below to get publicfolder's last access time.
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics |fl name,LastAccessTime
Get all distribution lists used over last 30 days.
    Get-MessageTrackingLog -EventId Expand -ResultSize Unlimited |Sort-Object RelatedRecipientAddress | Group-Object RelatedRecipientAddress |Sort-Object Name | Select-Object @{label=”PrimarySmtpAddress”;expression={$_.Name}}, Count
Hope this can be helpful to you.

You can use the "commadmin group search" command to list the ldap groups (if you have Delegated Administration installed/configured), otherwise you can use a directory ldapsearch to find the groups.

  • Exchange 2010 Dynamic Distribution Group - RecipientContainer ignored

Maybe someone will be able to help me with this...  I am trying to create DDGs for my organization but it seems the "RecipientContainer" is being ignored.  I have reorganized AD to include a top level OU called "Active Employees"
and within that are sub-OUs for each department.  I also have a top level OU for "Disabled Accounts" and users in those OUs are ending up on my DDG.  Is this a known issue with Exchange 2010?
First I had created the DDG in EMC and everything looked good.  I set the Recipient Container on the Filter tab by using the browse button and selecting mydomain.local\Active Employees, and then selected "Users with Exchange Mailboxes".
On the Conditions tab I left everything blank and when I clicked on Preview it returned the list of users I expected to see.  After sending a test email and receiving an NDR from an email contact (not on the preview list) I realized something was
    wrong.
At this point I found out how to query the group members using the shell and saw that all users in the entire domain were being put into the group.  To resolve this I added a Condition for Company name and then tediously updated the field for each user
in AD.  After querying the group from the shell again the results looked a little better - it was actually only pulling users with the correct "Company" in AD.  The problem is it still seems to be ignoring the RecipientContainer parameter
and querying the entire domain instead of my Active Employees OU.
I have reproduced the same results whether creating the DDG from EMC or from the Shell.  When I try to use the Set-DynamicDistributionGroup cmdlet to update the recipient container it warns me that the commad was successful but nothing has been modified.
This was supposed to be a simple solution for keeping our distribution groups up to date - maybe I should've known better...

    Hello Dave,
Thanks for the post. Let me tell you how I was able to go ahead and resolve the issue in my lab.
I had created a OU called Enabled users
    Then I created Two different Child Ou's : Disabledusersou1 and DisabledUsersou2
So if I open the ADUC my OU would look something like this
    EnabledUsers
    Disbaledusersou1
              Disbaledusersou2
Now I Had created users on all the above Ou's. When I created a Dynamicdistributiongroup with the recipientcontainer as EnabledUsers, it picked up users even from Disabledusersou1 and Disabledusersou2. Then I set the
customattribute1 to test in the DynamicDistributiongroup.
Then I went ahead and ran the following command
    Get-mailbox | {$_.Organizationalunit -like "domain.local\EnabledUsers"}
The above command listed only the users from the enabledusers Ou. Now the next step was to go ahead and add the customattribute1 to test on the Users in the EnabledUsers OU. So I ran the following command
    Get-mailbox | {$_.Organizationalunit -like "domain.local\EnabledUsers"} | set-mailbox -customattribute1 test
After I ran the above command. I waited for the AD replication. Once the Ad was replicated, I went ahead and did a Preview in the DynamicDistributiongroup and only found users from the EnabledUsers.
I even confirmed by sending an email to the dynamicdistributiongroup with a delivery receipt. I got the receipt for all the users in the EnabledUsers OU.
    Waiting to hear from you

  • Exchange forward to distribution group error

    Hello
I would like to create a forwarding rule on my Office365 Outlook account
so that, when a new mail comes in with a certain pre-defined string in it (alert for a Sharepoint teamsite), it gets forwarded to every member of a distribution group. However I get the following error when submitting it, causing it not to take effect:
There are multiple recipients matching the identity "HEDFIN mailinglist". Please specify a unique value.
When following the specified "Click here for help", I get redirected
to a TN Exchange Server 2013 Error Landing page with the following (error-message?) in the URL: e=ms.exch.err.Ex8155FB
I'm trying to get a work-around for the fact that there is no possibility to set a global alert on a team sub-site. I'd like a mail to be sent to every user when
anything changes on a subsite. So my work-around would be that I manually set my alerts on everything of every sub-site and then forward the mails I receive (from my own alerts) to the different distribution groups (groups with different users and their mail
accounts) by filtering on the Subject (name of subsite).
Is there any other way to do this without having our members set their alerts all manually? I found similar requests from a year ago but they haven't been solved
    yet.
PS: I posted this same request yesterday as well, but for some reason the link doesn't work anymore and I can't seem to find it when using Search either.
    Regards
    Robin

    Hi Robin,
I want to double confirm the E-mail Server, Office 365 or Exchange 2013?
They are two different products, even if they are similar in many aspects.
If we are using Office 365, I suggest asking Office 365 Forum for help, so that we can get more professional suggestions.
    For your convenience:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/default.aspx
However, I still have some suggestions, maybe something silly, just for your reference:
PLEASE MAKE A FULL BACK UP BEFORE PERFORMING FOLLOWING ACTIONS!
    1. Please do a full resync of on premise AD (what is not the very best solution with bigger customers)
    HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSOLCoExistence
Search FullSyncNeeded value and pass it to 1
    Initiating synchronization
    Launch the synchronization console:
    %programfiles%\Microsoft Online Directory Sync\DirSyncConfigShell.psc1
    Run the following command:
    Start-OnlineCoexistenceSync
    2. Better is to change the settings in MOP for every affected dirsynched user-change it to something abnormal and then back to the correct value.
This triggers a repopulation of AD Property changes and fixes the MOP error.
    Hope it is helpful

  • Exchange 2013 Dynamic Distribution Groups in Lync 2013

Working on a new Exchange 2013 Lync 2013 environment.    I'm having trouble getting Dynamic Distribution groups that exist in Exchange to populate in to the Lync Address book.  Currently If I create a normal Distribution list in Exchange,
it populates in to Lync as I would expect and can be searched and added to a users Contact list.  But for whatever reason the Dynamic distribution groups do not show at all in Lync.  They do show properly in the Exchange & Outlook Client GAL.
And I can use them to send email to recipients.  I'm stumped and can;t find any documentation that addresses if it is by design or if I have missed something.

By design it won't work, here is documentation.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398577.aspx
Lync Server 2013 uses the Distribution List Expansion Protocol (DLX) to expand distribution lists. This protocol also specifies the web service method that is used to get the membership of a distribution list. Microsoft Exchange Server supports dynamic groups
that do not have members statically assigned to them. Instead, they store queries that are evaluated when the group is expanded. DLX does not support dynamic distribution lists.

  • How to list groups and members of the groups

Is there a way to list out groups by the group name and list out the members in those groups? I have been tasked with providing the group names and the members in the group on an Exchange 2010 server.

  • Exchange 2010 dynamic distribution group - too many entries in results

    Hi
I've inherited some dynamic groups that were created on exchange 2003 [about 50 groups]. When I run the following query I seem to get far too many users returned [looking via ADUC the group should have 2 users]. How can I ensure I get the correct results?

  • CUP 5.3 SP8 - Distribution Groups and DL Approver

    Hello,
In CUP, we are trying to configure the DL Approver because we are using a Distribution List as the alternate approver for one of our stages (At Stage Role Approver)
We are testing a change request for a user to get a role which has the role approver TCUPRA1. The Alternate approver for this role is DL-TESTCUP. Tied to this DL in active Directory is TCUPRA2 and TCUPRA3.
All 3 of these approvers are in our SAPHR system, which is what we use for authentication, data source, and search source. All 3 of these users also have the necessary LAN accounts to properly tie them to the DL. Our LDAP connector in CUP is configured correctly and works great and we have setup Approver group using the distribution list DL-TESTCUP.
In our test workflow, we have escalation setup that if a Role Approver doesn't approve within an hour, the request is forwarded to alternate approver. In this case, the alternate approver is DL-TESTCUP (so in theory, since TCUPRA2 and TCUPRA3 are tied to this DL, they should be the alternate approvers i.e. have authority to move the request along)
At the stage right before Role Approver stage (which is the stage where we are adding this role to the request), we are getting an error that says " Error processing your request, Request no: 32 in stage : BR_SEC_ASSIGN."
Here is the error in logs:
    Caused by:
    com.sap.security.core.logon.imp.UMELoginException: USER_AUTH_FAILED

com.virsa.ae.core.ObjectNotFoundException: User BRAZIL SEC ADMINS not found in SAP HR system
I'm seeing in there that User BRAZIL SEC ADMINS is not found in HR? BRAZIL SEC ADMINS is not a user, but rather the name of the Distribution Group we defined in CUP. Maybe I'm misunderstand the whole functionality of DL approvers in CUP?
Can someone clarify to me how I setup this piece of functionality - what are we doing wrong? Why is CUP looking in HR to authenticate a Group name that I defined IN CUP?
Let know if I need to elaborate further.
    Thanks!
    Jes

Thank you for your reply Sirish!
I added the additional LDAP mapping and am now able to "approve" to the Role Approver stage of the workflow without CUP stopping me immediately with an error.
The audit trail now says "Request Escalated to Alternate approver"
HOWEVER, it is still not working completely.
TCUPRA2 and TCUPRA3, the users tied to the DL in which the request was excalated to, do not have authority to approve the request (and they didn't receive email notifications either; we do have this setup)
The log still shows this error:
2009-08-03 08:25:09,898 [SAPEngine_Application_Thread[impl:3]_17] ERROR  Ignoring Exception - User : BRAZIL SEC ADMINS  not found to get full name
com.virsa.ae.core.ObjectNotFoundException: User BRAZIL SEC ADMINS not found in SAP HR system
It is still trying to look back at HR for something in relation to this distrubtion group, which I do not understand at all. This is an Active Directory DL and the two users listed above are indeed tied to it. Also, these users are properly setup in our SAPHR system as well. I simply do not understand why CUP is looking for the group "BRAZIL SEC ADMINS" - I created this "group" in CUP and tied the DL to it; it is not a "user" like the error seems to be referring to.
Basically, the issue still is, users tied to the DL are not getting authority to take over the request when escalation occurs. Something still isn't completely configured or configured correctly.
Any ideas? Has anyone used DL approvers?
    Thanks so much!
    Jes

  • Exchange 2013, a distribution group within a distribution group is not receiving emails.

Here's the explanation of what's going on:
"A" is an internal distribution group containing other internal contacts, and internal distribution groups "B" and "C". "B" is a working distribution group that contains all internal contacts. "C" contains all
external contacts, who will successfully receive emails sent directly to "C". The problem is, when you send an email to "A", everyone in "B" receives the email, but no one in "C" does. "C" is set to receive
emails from external sources and has correct SMTP settings as far as I can tell.
Is this problem related to the fact that "C" is full of external contacts? Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere that will allow "C" to receive emails sent to "A"?
Edit: Group "C" can not receive emails at all.

Sorry, i meant does the mailbox you are sending the email FROM have permission to send emails TO external email address?
Our exchange server is set up so that certain people can only email internal addresses. This is configured in the ECP under Mail Flow - Rules, and is basically configured to state that anyone within the AD group "internal only" to reject the message and
provide the explanation "you are not allowed to email externally".
If the mailbox you are sending the mail from is not permitted to email external contacts, it wont work.
It can be tested by emailing one of the addresses in Group C individually.
