Exchange/Replacement

I just got MBP two days ago. I am having the CPU whine with a screen gap.(the screen doesn't close tightly all the way) I went back to Apple store and the store manager told me they can only replace it once. And if there's any type of problem with the next one, i can't replace again. A 3000 dollar laptop, I am still afraid the next one may be worse, so i ended up not exchanging it. I asked them if they have newer revision? Since I heard from other forums that there are less problems with the revision. Can I go to other retail mac store for an exchange? Or I have to stick with the one where I brought the mbp??

You can go to any Apple store worldwide and exchange your MBP they have the same policy....
All you need is a physical receipt.
Ps: you can even do it over the phone with Apple care ( this will just be a longer process.)
Ps 2 : the CPU whine seems to be in every MBP even in the revised ones....
You can download a freeware called QuietMBP 1.1 "http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/downloads/QuietMBP1.1.zip" to make the noise go away.
Good luck!

  • How can i exchange for the new design

Last year my sister purchased a ipod shuffle 3rd gen, for my 10 yr old daughter. She bought it from Target and spent $145.00 at that time. Shortly there after i became aware apple had replace this 3rd gen shuffle with a new design. One that is more user friendly, especially for my 10 yr old. I have to say we have been very disappoint with her ipod for several reasons.
    1. there is no face so you cant see what your doing
    2. you must memorize the amount of clicks in order to operate it.
    3. we have only been able to upload new music to her ipod once since she got it a year ago. Even with online tech support, reading online forums, owner manuals, help from family and friends. To no avail.
She has it still in the box neatly packed away. Its used as a show piece on her dresser to show that she has an (ipod). Neadless to say she does not use it,does not  like it mainly because there is no display panel which make it very difficult for her to function.
So how can i exchange/replace the old design ipod shuffle generation 3  for the new design.

Try disabling your firewall and try again.

  • AC Adapter replacement

Bought a new iPhone 5 3 days ago, and the charger has stopped working already. I've proven the adapter is faulty by connecting another known working charger to the phone.
I contacted support and have been quoted £11.25 for service replacement. Shouldn't this be a free exchange replacement for a 3 day old piece of equipment?

I don't know who told you you had to pay, but you don't.  Everything that came in the box with your phone has the same warranty.  The iPhone 5 and its cable and charger are still under warranty and should be replaced free of charge if found to be defective and not due to user damage.

  • Cracked 4th ipod (ios5) replacement and mail it

I bougth my new ipod 4th IOS5 one a month ago,
and unfortunately the screen has cracked T^T.
So, I've checked several Q&A that already uploaded.
For cracked screen, I have to pay certain amount of money (based on capacity), and they will exchange (replacement) a new ipod under the limited warranty!
I hope I understood correctly. (if not, please correct me!)
so, I am going to pay whatever amount that needed to pay for replacement, but my question is....
my area is quite far away from any apple store in MI, so if I send my cracked one throught mail, can apple send new ipod through mail as well?
and if that is possible, can anybody explain to me the process (like payment, or address, etc)?
Thank you for any comments in advance!

Yes you have it right. For how to do it go to:
Apple - Support - iPod - Service FAQ
    Then Warranty>
My iPod is not eligible for warranty service. What are my service options?
    The price is $99, $149 or $199.

  • 3D Issue on Qosmio F755-3d350 after screen replacement

Hi, I had a problem with my Toshiba Qosmio F755-3D350 the LCD screen broke and I have to replace it with a new screen.
The new screen is the same model : B156HB01 V.0 from Au electronics, that the original screen on my laptop had.
everything works fine the resolution, the camera but when it comes the 3D it doesnt work the Leds on the web camera doesn't turn on and activate the wiggle stereoscopy.
How can i activate again the 3D or Where is the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi
As far as I know after LCD panel (screen) or webcamera disassembly or exchange/replacement its necessary to calibrate the 3D sensor chip of the LCD using special 3D calibration tool.
This calibration can be performed by Toshiba authorized service provider only!
It looks like you have no other option as to contact the ASP in your country to perform such 3D calibration.

  • Can I exchange the iPhone 5s for a different color?

My sister told me she bought me an iPhone 5s white/silver and verizon is having it shipped to me but the shipping info states it's the gold one. Is there a way to exchange/replace the phone for the silver/white colored one at no extra charge? It also already shipped around 2 hours ago.

If the phone you're getting isn't the phone that you want...and you want to try to avoid a restocking fee...just refuse the delivery.  Don't accept it and try to go the store to have it done...especially if VZW got it right and you're just wanting a different color out of preference.  Be advised that refusing the accept delivery of the phone will cause it to go back to VZW which you have to factor in time to ship it back, time for the warehouse to receive it, and time for it to be credited back to your sister.  All of this can be a long and tedious process.  Also be advised that if you do try this approach that calling, complaining, and ranting about the slow return process will not yield you any faster results.  No VZW rep online, in a store, on the phone, or via chat will be able to do anything to speed up the return process...it'll happen when it happens.  So...with that being said, is having a different color really worth it to you?  Armed with the knowledge you've gained here about the process, at least you can now make an informed decision.  Besides, most people cover the back of their device with some fancy or cute cover to protect their device so the back color is rarely seen.  Best of luck to you...

  • Is there a way of sharing received emails in the LAN? I mean, like the local folders but pointing to shared SAMBA folders.

I work in a small company where every receive email is classified, stored and shared with everyone. This is implemented with M.S. Exchange shared folders. However, I am trying to get rid of the Exchange Server, install Ubuntu in every terminal and just use google as email server. What I did so far is to share some folders with SAMBA and point everyone's Thunderbird "Local Folders" to them, and this seems to be working well, but the problem is that Thunderbird Local Folders weren't meant to be shared. Actually, if someone adds any email to the folders the other people won't see any changes unless they restart Thunderbird. Also, as Thunderbird stores emails in mbox, when someone is seeing any email belonging to some folder, that folder gets blocked and other people are not allowed to see it.
Is there a way in Thunderbird of sharing emails in realtime in the LAN? That would be a very useful tool for teamwork.

Your coming at this from the wrong end.
It is implemented by Exchange. In Outlook.
    So you need
It is implemented by XXX. In Thunderbird.
That is you need a server solution to the issue. You could get some if it using IMAP mail accounts but a real solution is probably a far better solution and shared calendars are a real boon I think.
One that I think has some merit is http://www.sogo.nu/ but Zimbra is also worth a look http://www.zimbra.com/products/ I know very little about either product, so do your own due diligence.
Those are certainly not the only exchange replacement packages available as this google search demonstrates http://www.google.com.au/webhp?nord=1#newwindow=1&nord=1&q=exchange+replacement&safe=off

  • Iphone activation online is not working

So heres my issue. I got the iphone 4 yesterday. Did what it said online to activate it, it said it was pending, but my iphone 4 never gave any indication it was in the process of activating nor did i recieve an email saying the process was starting.
So today even though my phone was not activated (and please note i am an iphone user, i had the 3GS, so maybe that's why its being so difficult to activate the new one), but i plugged it into itunes and synced it with all my apps and music i wanted, and then i unplugged it and tried to go online again and activate it but i get an error message saying this device could not be activated. Please call blah blah blah.
Well then i shut my phone off and turned it back on to see it says "Waiting for Activation"
And i tried calling but it didn't work.
I tried turning it off and on, but all i get is the waiting for activation thing. I even turned both my 3gs and the new phone off and just turned the new phone on, but it didn't work
I can still use my iphone 3gs for calls and texts and everything.
I'm stuck. Please, can someone out there help? If nothing works, then i figure im just going to have to go to the mall and either go to apple or at&T
on a side note, when the phone is not activated, but can be used and everything for apps and music, is the "No service" thing normal? I fear for the worst for this no service issue, cause i had no service issues with my 3gs.

    I get the message:
ACT005: We apologize for the inconvenience but we cannot upgrade your device at this moment. If you have received this device as part of a warranty exchange replacement, please click here to login or register your mobile number and update your new equipment. Otherwise contact Customer Service at 1-800-331-0500 for further assistance.
Gah.... It just won't let me do it online at all in any manner.

  • Migration from Windows Small Business Server 2003 to Snow Leopard Server

    Hello,
I'm going to migrate a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Standard to a Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server 10.6.x in a few weeks.
    I have 2 questions :
Is there an official process to migrate my Exchange server datas ?
Snow Leopard Server has it Wizards to help me to muigrate datas to proper services ?
    Thanx
    Regards,
Gil DERENNE aka --( dB )--

    Thank you for your reply
My network will be Apple only in a few time (1 server, 1 iMac and 1 Mac Pro).
Now, I want to replace server and all services installed on it :
    - Active Directory (replaced by Open Directory)
    - Users/Groups/machines
    - NAT/Firewall and Backup (will be replaced by a Time Capsule)
    - VPN for mobile access
    - File and Printer sharing
    - Fax Services with Fax/Modem 56K !oops! (replaced by a free service offer by my ISP)
    - Mail/Calendar/Address book and notes with Exchange (replaced by each service to serv right thing : Mail, iCal, Address book...).
I know what to do with all things but not for replacing Exchange and transfer datas to each similar service in Snow Leopard.
In the network, Mail Server will be used by Outlook with IMAP protocol and other services by web interface (Windows computers are not a problem for me, it can be alone and only access web if necessary).
The number of clients inside the LAN :
    - 2 iPhones
    - 1 iPod Touch
    - 1 PC Windows Vista (for a few time) with some VM (Linux and Windows)
    - 1 iMac 27' with 1 VM (Windows)
    - 1 LAN Printer HP Deskjet 6127 (RJ45 Static IP connection)
The number of clients outside the LAN :
    - 3 PC Windows XP
    - 2 PC Windows Vista
    - 5 Nokia Smart Phones
When I'm going to by the Mac Mini Server with Snow Leopard Server, is there some support to help me to do it whith them and is it free or do I have to buy AppleCare to access to this service ?

  • MacBook Pro Battery Issue

    Hello,
I am one of the many consumers suffering from the bloating battery issue found in the 17inch MacBook Pro. I have found tons of info on this and people are reporting even the second or third battery having the same issue. That being said, is the issue really with the battery or with the computer? I know they put out a software update that was supposed to fix the problem, does that point to a problem with the computer?
A few apple representive said the battery breaking out of the casing was a safety feature, is there any way harmful chemicals are released when the seal on the component is damaged leaving the battery exposed?

Well I would call back and tell them there are numerous instances where the battery replacement has been honored as part of the exchange/replacement program, especially since it is safety issue.  Get a case number, next time you speak to someone.  And if you don't get a satisfactory result, call back and escalate the call to customer relations.  Until then turn off the computer and don't use it.

  • Lost Broadband service on 8 Sept at 11.00 am - sti...

Had been with Orange (Freeserve) for several years. Then suddenly on Wed 8 Sept at 11.00 broadband dropped out and would not reconnect. Power cycled everything and did all the usual checks.
Orange claimed that some work had been done at the local exchange on that day and would try and get BT to fix the problem.
Spent many a happy hour over the following weekend holding for an Orange technical support person only to finally discover that Orange were unable to do anything because their systems had stopped talking to BT Wholesale (who actually of course provide the service) and could do nothing more until at least 22 Sept.
So we got our MAC code and transferred hook line and sinker to BT so that there is no-one else to pass the buck to.
BT activated our service on 23 September and guess what - no service. And this morning at 08.30 when BT support lines open - still no service.
After several calls to BT support and lots of holding and changing ADSL filters and confirming that, no - nothing else is plugged in, someone in technical support eventually agreed that there appeared to be a fault.
So we can expect to receive a call within 48 hours.
The problem is clearly a fault at the exchange - there is no ADSL modem signal on the line. If you plug in a second phone handset before the ADSL filter and listen to the Hub to exchange noises - the line is completely clear. If there were an ADSL modem at the exchange end of the line I would expect to be able to hear it.
My question is - how do I escalate this within BT so that an engineer actually goes to the exchange and finds out who disconnected the equipment on Wed 8 September and reconnects it. Or if it is a faulty ADSL card in the exchange, replaces that card?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
(By the way, can really recommend the MiFi from 3 - it has saved our lives. OK - costs £50 and then another £25 for 7G of data for one month but works really well and provides an instant WiFi hotspot for up to 5 devices from anywhere that has a 3 signal. For a PAYG standby when your Broadband fails and you are waiting for BT to fix it I find it hard to criticise.)

I'm not defending anybody here, by any means ....
But you have to consider the amount of exchange work going on at the moment with 21CN.
That to me sounds like an instruction from Orange to BTw, to shift their frame connections over to their
allocated msan ....  Openreach have been along to do the business, as required ... and the msan is lying
there dead in the water .... not connected to the backhaul, which in real terms is down to BTw.
A little bit of madness during a very busy period IMO
Meanwhile, BT Openreach, the public "face" of BT get thrashed from pillar to post .... and wholesale remain
behind their cloak of anonymity and (ofcom) red tape. ... Orange, meantime havn;t a clue what's happpening.
The reason I loathe quangos and their policies ! ....  at least the government is now seeing sense.

  • How do I transfer apps from my phone to iTunes on my PC?

I would like to transfer the apps from my iPhone to my Itunes on my computer so I have them saved in two locations. I did this a long time ago but I can't remember how. My iTunes on my computer only shows 63 of the 72 apps that I have, and some of the apps that it shows are apps that I have long since deleted from my phone. What can I do so the apps that show in iTunes are the same as on my phone? Thank you!

All 3rd party apps on your iPhone - that were on your iPhone that was exchanged/replaced should be in your iTunes library on your computer along with all other iTunes content that was on the iPhone.
If you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes which should be selected for several reasons, after downloading an app with your iPhone the app will be copied to your iTunes library automatically the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.
Although contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, contacts are designed to be synced with a supported address book app on your computer. Your contacts should be available on your computer with or without an iPhone or any cell phone, which can be lost or stolen.
When connecting a new iPhone to iTunes on a computer that was being used to sync with another iPhone, you should be prompted to transfer the backup for the previous iPhone to the new iPhone as the very first step. This must be followed by a sync with iTunes to transfer your selected iTunes content from your iTunes library to your iPhone - music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, and 3rd party apps.

  • Iphone upgrade broke - did it back up ?

If you tell iTunes to upgrade your iPhone from os4 to os4.versionupdate (example)...
Does iTunes automatically back it up before attempting upgrade?
my phone is currently in recovery mode - and I don't know whether it backed up or not (you rookie!!!)
EDIT I have browsed to the back up folder, i.e.
    C:\Users\<MY USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
There is a folder with todays date: \a6OMMITEDe8e0e2d230dcc - would this be the backup done before attempting software upgrade?

There is no way to get it back. The iPhone hadn't been synced with iTunes since April, there was a hardware problem that required the iPhone being exchanged/replaced and I assume you weren't able to sync the iPhone with iTunes before doing so, and now that iPhone is gone.
Unless you are the "One" as in the Matrix movie, there is no way to recover data that doesn't exist.
