Exclude a drive from Import

I have a MicroSD card in my computer (Surface Pro) as extra storage. When I do an import, LR (5.3, under Win 8.1) starts by scanning that drive and creating thumbnails for the image files there. The card that I actually want to import from is another SD card.
Is there any way to tell LR to ignore a certain drive from import? It's a small annoyance but it would make life easier.

Thanks for your replies. We wrote some custom code to allow an end user to unlock his SAP accounts (as well as Active Directory and AS400). However, we want to exclude SAP from password management (and from account creation management) at this time because SAP has different requirements for passwords (8 character limit for the version we use) compared to Active Directory, and the bosses don't want to change the password policy for Active Directory to conform to SAP. For the present we will use CUA to manage SAP passwords, roles and activities.
Thanks

  • How to exclude mts files from importing

    Hi,
I use my photo camera for photo's and video, but as PSE is crashing/freezes when it encounters a mts file I would like to exclude these from importing but the default "media type" settings does not allow this.
How can I force PSE to exclude these files, so I can import all photos into the organizer
    André
    PSE 12 W8.1 i7 HD4000+GT650M

Is this a laptop that 'automatically' chooses between an onboard graphics chip (the HD4000) and an advanced graphics processor (GT650M). If it is then  it is possible that the switching is causing the issue. There should be a utility that allows you to define a particular card for for a particular application to use - this should then start the application using that card and avoid any 'auto-sensing' activity.
Note though that Elements (Photoshop, Premiere, Organizer) make no use of advanced video card capabilities so if the HD4000 provides you an acceptable resolution and colour depth there is no advantage to using the GT650M.

  • Ability to exclude jpeg sidecars from import

I just bought a camera that doesn't have the option of shooting raw without jpegs so my import process just got a lot more complicated.
I would like the ability to disable the import of jpeg sidecars. This would alleviate my fear of accidentally deleting unique jpegs that have no raw equivalent.

Thanks for the suggestion. I can also pre-delete the jpgs in explorer and since i can sort there it's even easier.
The tricky thing is that I don't want to eliminate all jpegs. Some modes on the camera only support jpegs and sometimes I shoot only jpegs. So this requires actively isolating duplicates of raw files and deleting them.
It's not an awful amount of work, but it is error prone ( I worry about accidentally deleting unique jpegs ) and it takes an order of magnitude more time than my 5D work flow, which is: 1. Insert card. 2. Click ok.
Since Lightroom already identifies jpeg sidecars during the import process, having a checkbox that disables the actual import seems like a reasonable request.

  • Possible to exclude a drive from event processing at startup?

I clone my iMovie drive regularly as part of my backup plan.  As a result whenever I open iMovie it sees the same events on both disks and takes lots of time processing them(there's a good 1.5TB to look through).  Is there a way to have this initial scan ignore the backup?

  • HT3275 Time machine at home and it will not allow me to remove the listing of my external hard drive from the excluded files list.

Please help guys, I have a Time machine at home and it will not allow me to remove the listing of my external hard drive from the excluded files list.
I am trying to use time machine to back up the hard drive. For backing up from Macbooik pro and Imac, there is no problem. It seems to not want to allow the external drive to be removed from the Excluded list and as such will not back up from it.
Is there a way to be able to transfer files (music, movies etc) to time machine, format the external drive then put the files back to hard drive?
Sorry it is a long winded question but it is driving me nuts that I cant sort this out.
The <Macbook and Imac are both running mountain lion.
    Thanks Guys

As for the hard drive to which you have never been able to write, is it by any chance in NTFS format? OS X can read NTFS for importing files, but it does not contain code for writing on an NTFS volume. That's a choice, not a bug.
There is third-party software available to install NTFS-writing capability into OS X. An example is Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X. Another alternative would be to use a disk format that both Macs and Windows systems can use for both reading and writing; this would require either a new drive or erase the existing data.
If by "the new system software" you mean OS X 10.9 Mavericks, you may want to repost that portion of your query in the Mavericks forum at https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mavericks . I haven't made the leap yet.
I don't know what other problems you have been having, so I cannot comment on them. You don't seem to have any other recent postings on these forums.

  • Can I exclude a backup network drive from iTunes?

I have just installed iTunes on my PC after using WMP and WinAmp for many years.
I have a sizeable collection of MP3's on my computer AND on a network back-up drive. When I installed iTunes, not only did it access my internal drives (c: & d:) but it also imported into the library my Back-Up drive (k:).
I want to EXCLUDE the backup/network drive from the iTunes library, but do want to keep my hubby's HD in the network loop for music.
I can not figure out how to do this. Please Help me remove all the files that are on my back-up drive from the iTunes library. Not all of my MP3z as duplicates in the library at the moment because hubby's computer is DOWN at the moment but I still never want iTunes to access our mp3 back-up drive [K:].

I wrote a program to remove tracks from iTunes based on the file path (among other things). You can use it to remove all tracks from the K drive very easily. Go here:
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/itunesscripts/index.html
and click the download button. Extract the ZIP (teridonsitunesscripts.zip) somewhere, and run "teridonsitunesscripts.exe".
In the window that appears, select "itunesremove_bylocation" and click "Run Selected Script".
A new cmd prompt window will appear, asking you for a pattern to search for. Enter <pre>^K:</pre> (thats a caret (shift-6)) and hit enter. You'll then get a listing all your playlists. Select the Library playlist by typing "1" and hit enter. The program will automatically remove all tracks from iTunes that are on the K: drive.
The files will not be removed from the K: drive itself unless you actually have K: set up as your Library location. It certainly sounds like you do not. However, if you want to double check, from the Edit menu select Preferences. On the Advanced tab, under the General tab, check the "iTunes Music folder location". As long as it isn't K: you don't have to worry.
The forum TOS requires me to say: "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link" because I have a paypal donation link on my webpage. The program is free (donation totally optional).

  • I am trying to transfer my photos from old mac to new mac.  I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!  What happened?

And how do I turn off FACES?

I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!
According to you youo did not do what I instructed - you said you imported the old library into th enew library which can easily take a 2000 photo library and turn it into 12,000 including two ro three versions of each photo pus all the face thumbnails
The correct procedure has NO importing involved
drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac
    That is it

  • Is there a way of excluding Time Machine from drives list?

Every time I save a file or an application scans the drives on my iMac, the Time Machine drive is included.
But because the HDs in the external drive (Iomega) go to sleep between Time Machine back ups, they have to spin up (2 HDs in a RAID setup, so both have to spin up) before the application can go on. That takes something between 5 and 10s every time.
Is there a way of excluding the TM drive from the normal drives list? So that it's invisible to applications?
    Cheers,
    Marco

if it is spotlight that i s scanning your drives, add the time machine drive to the privacy area in system prefs:spotlight:privacy. either drag the drive to the window or click the + buttonon bottom right.

  • Is there any way to remove my hard drive with backup files in it from the exclude these items from backups???

I currently have a MacBook Air and a 1TB external hard drive, and I run my iPhoto Library from the EHD and as well have TM backup my computer to that same HD. The problem I have is that I don't have a backup of that HD which has all my photos and other media, so If the HD takes a crap I can be in big trouble.
So what I did is I purchased a new HD (My Cloud from WD) to back up my EHD. While setting everything up I ran into this
TM included the EHD in the "Exclude these items from backup" list and I can't touch them, and I tried everything. I later found this
The last sentence of #3 states why I can't.... Since the EHD has a backup file in it, it is excluded.
So..... Does anybody have any idea of a way around this? Would I have to restart everything and set it up different? Or just have a better and easier way of doing this?? I'll appreciate any help and suggestions.

What you need, is a dedicated image restauration filter that recognized the regular frequency pattern superimposed onto the prints. You can do this in advanced Image processing packages that let you compute the fourier transform of the image and then suppress or attanuate the frequency bands of the artefact with a band-stop filter.
But neither Aperture nor PhotoShop have this kind of filter. In Aperture and Photoshop you can only soften the effect by blurring and then exporting a smaller version of the image.
The algorithm that your scanner uses is probably the best that can be done, even if the resolution is only 100 dpi.
Do you still have the negatives? Scanning the negatives at a high resolution may give you better results.

  • Have over 86GB of music now showing as "other" and although it is still on my iPod it is not playable.  Most is from imported CDs. I do have a backup file on an external hard drive. How can I fix this?

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Using External CD Rom drive to import music from CD to Itune

I have itunes 6.0 on an XP laptop, and an external TDK DVD/CDrom drive. Itunes imports music from CDs when I use the drive on the laptop, however, only imports links (seem like URL links) when I use the external drive to import music from a CD into a playlist.
I am trying to use the external CD rom drive for importing music into Itunes, but there seems to be a problem, or I have not checked some box or the other. Can someone help??
    Thanks

First, Jaguar does not come on a DVD. The standard Jaguar release comes on two CDs. What you probably have is a gray color OEM DVD or a copy that was made for a specific Mac model and will not work with your computer. Furthermore, in order to run OS X on your computer you must first install a firmware update.
You also need at least 128 MBs of RAM for OS X and at least 3 GBs of free space on the hard drive during installation. Your particular model requires that OS X be installed on a drive or partition that is less than 8 GBs. If your hard drive is larger than 8 GBs it must be partitioned such that the first partition is no larger than 7.85 GBs and OS X must be installed in that partition. The drive must also be formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+).
Furthermore, you cannot boot OS X from a USB drive, only from a Firewire drive.
You will need to get the correct Jaguar installers. You can purchase the right package at www.applerescue.com. Your particular model is compatible with Panther thru 10.3.9. Panther would be a better choice than Jaguar because it is much faster even on your iMac. However, OS X will not be very fast on your computer because it lacks CPU speed and video horsepower. If you continue to install OS X, then you should plan to install the maximum of 512 MBs of RAM that iMac supports.
