Excluding Item IDs from Search Scope

Hi All,
I have a defined a search scope on a list at the site collection level. The scenario is when users issue a search query (using OOB advanced search web part) and if the search query happens to be the List Item ID then that record is also in the search result.
Though this is a correct scenario since the item ID exists in the search scope but to the end user this is not a valid functionality.
How to exclude this from the search scope?
Regards
Arnav

You can try to remove the ID from the index by modifying the managed\crawl properties.  But then you will affect *anything* that uses that ID (including internal sharepoint features).

  • How to exclude Web App from search results

    Hi
    Search results link to a unstyled Web App instead to the actual page it resides in.
    Please do this:
    1. go to: http://kinship.businesscatalyst.com/
    2. search for "Michael" on the top global search
    3. on the search results page click on the name (link).
    4. you will see Michael's web app item not the actuall page it resides in (http://kinship.businesscatalyst.com/About/the-team)
    How to avoid getting web app results in search?
    Thanks
    Micha

    Hi Micha
    Just add “&OT=35 “ at the end of the action in your search form:
    Ex:
    <form name=”xxxx” method=”post” action=”/Default.aspx?SiteSearchID=3566&amp;ID=/results&OT=35”>
    <div class=”search-box”><input type=”text” class= ............../>
    <input type=”submit” class=”cat_button” value=”search” />
    </div>
    </form>
    Here are the rest of the content types IDs, should you come across similar situations in the future:
    Web Pages = 1
    Literature = 6
    Announcements = 7
    FAQs = 9
    Forums = 43
    Blogs = 55
    Web Apps = 35
    Catalogs = 26
    Bookings = 48
    You can exclude multiple areas from a search, simply list them with commas: &OT=35,1,6

  • [IDCS2-JS] Excluding Master Pages from Search

    Hi,
    Is there a way to exclude text in the master page in search?
    I'm running a script that will search a list of words that will search a book then insert page references for an index. But using app.search includes the master page, how can I limit the search?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    ah, I should have read this in your title.
    I am afraid this property isn't available in CS2.
    So you will have the check every found item, whether one of it's parents is a masterPage.

    "Gets the base URL. This is the URL of the directory which contains this applet."So try the experiment. See where it leads you..
    [http://pscode.org/test/codebase/applet.html] - two different (in the codebase) calls to the same applet.
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class CodeBaseApplet extends JApplet {
         public void init() {
              add(new JLabel(getCodeBase().toString()));
    My wording may have been confusing. But I thought "which contains this applet" and "from where the applet originated" referred to the same thing.This is not the first time I have discovered JavaDocs that are misleading.
    I generally don't work with the applet tag when I do develop applets as the tag has been deprecated for a number of years.Same difference with <object> (or <embed>). The codebase is the codebase, not the directory of any Jar (necessarily).
    Think about it this way. An applet loads one Jar from my site, one Jar from yours, and another from any other site. What is the codebase then? (Answer: the codebase defined in the applet element.)
    *OTOH it is quite typical to have the codebase point to the single directory that contains all the applet Jars - so often that advice is true. But the devil is in the details.*

  • Excluding items in a given folder from a Smart Folder Search

    Hi: Looking for a tip here. I would like to exclude what pops up in a smart folder based on what folder it is. I do NOT want to exclude that folder from my general spotlight search ability, just in that smart folder.
    Reason asking: I have a folder in docs that I use everyday, and backup (with a 3rd party utility) to my iDisk folder. This way I have backups on my home computer at virtually all times. (iDisk is good for backups, Dropbox for 'sharing') I have a smart folder that displays all the stuff that i've worked on in the last day. I've used a lot of 'not' tricks to exclude all but the file types I use, but I always get a double copy in that folder. The one in my working folder and the one on my iDisk. What would be perfect is to simply say exclude what is found at the iDisk location, but that doesn't seem to be an option in the search criteria. I could exclude the while iDisk from spotlight in general, but I still want to be able to find things when I type them on the standard search.
    Any thoughts?

    thanks, Michel. it had occurred to me to put a scratch tag on the folder, but I was hoping for an easier way. in future I'll do as you suggest though, because it's easier than what I have been doing.

  • Exclude a word from a spotlight search?

    How can I tell spotlight to exclude items containing a particular word from the search?
    In other words, I am looking for something similar to google's "-word" option:
    example (google) of a search command for google:
    +mac -software
    (show all items containing "mac", but don't show those containing "software").
    Is there any similar feature in Spotlight?
    Thanks for any suggestion!
    PowerMac, iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    The most reliable way is to use a Raw Query in the Command-F search window, access the "Other" criterion and select Raw Query. The Not option is != so if you wanted to find everything that contains the work Photoshop in its name, but not the word Elements, your Raw Query would look like this:
    ((kMDItemFSName == "Photoshop") && (kMDItemFSName != "Element"))
    The astericks * are wild cards. Thus it will find Adobe Photoshop CS, Adobe Photoshop 7.0 Paths, and so on.
    If you save it as a SmartFolder you can bring it up and then just change the words you want to search on.

    Be sure Safari does not have the Block Pop-Up Windows preference set.
    Where I work now there are several unencrypted VLANs that require authentication, and Safari promptly pops up a window for me to register every time.

  • Exclude Master Pages From RH8 Search

    Is there a way to exclude master pages from RH8 searches? There is no option in the Master Page properties as with topics.
    What I did: I created a Master Page to add a "Download PDF version" link to the PDF version of the Help, in the same way that  RJ Jacquez did in his "Web 2.0 Documentation using Adobe AIR and RoboHelp 8 OnDemand Recording" tutorial. The difference is that Jacquez's sample used an image as the link, while I used text.
    Problem: "Download PDF version" is prepended to all search results (in the context line).
    The obvious workaround is to replace the text with an image representation instead. But I thought I would ask the question about master pages and searches anyway.

    Hi Jason
    I think you misunderstood me. Note that Master Pages may be used in different ways.
    They may be used as a starting off point for a topic. You create the topic, and much like a Word template, the Master Page partially builds the topic by having certain elements already in place. From there forward, you customize the topic to your needs. Subsequent changes to the Master Page have zero effect on any topics created from them.
    They may also be used to configure a Header and a Footer. You then associate the Master Page with the Header, Footer or both to several or all topics to give the associated topics the Header or Footer information from the Master Page. In this case, subsequent changes to the Header or Footer in the Master Page DO actually appear in all associated topics.
    I was talking about the latter option. I wasn't suggesting you move things into the HTML Head area of the topic.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Exclude *All* Subfolders From Smart Folder Search

    I know how to make a Smart Folder search two different directories and retrieve results from each (e.g. /Applications and /Developer). I've also seen disscusions here on excluding particular subfolders, but to no avail. So here's a simpler request: is it possible to exclude all subfolders from a Smart Folder query? Suppose I have the following directory structure:
    Foo/
    A.txt
    B.txt
    Bar/
    C.txt
    D.txt
    Baz/
    E.txt
    F.txt
    G.txt
    Given a search for *.txt files, I'd like the following result:
    FooSearch.smartSearch
    A.txt
    B.txt
    G.txt
    Possible or no?

    I have a similar issue, but want to exclude results that are within Mail.

  • Exclude Baggage Files From RH8 Search

    Hi...
    I have noticed that you can exclude pages from appearing in
    the RH8 search (Topic Properties > Exclude From Search), but are
    you also able to do this with baggage files? (now that RH8 indexes
    those too).
    I have a large number of PDF baggage files, but dont want
    these to appear in the search.
    Thanks...

    Hi Mat
    Unfortunately Baggage files are immune from Conditional Build
    tagging. I would strongly encourage you and others to pester Adobe
    with Wish Forms asking for ability to apply CBTs to baggage
    content.
    Click
    here to visit the Wish Form
    Until this feature emerges as part of the RoboHelp feature
    set, the best you can probably do is to place the files inside a
    folder in baggage where you can occasionally sneak behind
    RoboHelp's back and rename the folder temporarily so RoboHelp
    doesn't know about it. This would effectively exclude the files.
    Once finished with the special build, rename the folder back
    to what it was.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Exclude members from a scope - MDX SSAS

    Hi all,
    I'm just beginning with MDX so the answer may be obvious...
    I'm trying to do a currency conversion with an MDX statement in my Cube SSAS 2012.
    Here is my script :
           SCOPE( LEAVES([Entity]) );
    SCOPE( LEAVES([Time]) );
    SCOPE( LEAVES([Currency]));
    SCOPE( [Account].[Account].[Total ACCOUNT].members)
    THIS = ([Measures].[Value],[Currency].[Currency].[Local])*([Measures].[Value],[Account].[Account].[Fx Rate]);
    END SCOPE;
    END SCOPE;
    END SCOPE;
    END SCOPE;
    The problem is I want to exclude frome the scope Currency my local Currency in order to make the conversion only if a currency (€,$, £) is selected.
    I tried the following syntax but it always return a "MDX script is not valid" :
    SCOPE( LEAVES([Currency], Except (LEAVES([Currency],[Currency].[Currency].[Local]);
    SCOPE( [Measures].[Value] , Except ([Currency].[Currency].members,[Currency].[Currency].[Local]);
    SCOPE( [Measures].[Value] , Except (LEAVES([Currency],[Currency].[Currency].[Local]);
    SCOPE( LEAVES([Currency] - [Currency].[Currency].[Local]);
    Could you please help me with this ? Thanks.

    Hi MNelane,
    Please try to use the following MDX command:
    Scope( Leaves([Date]) , Except([Currency].[Currency].Members, [Currency].[Currency].[Local));

  • Exclude a General Item Category from rebate processing

    Is it possible to exclude a General Item Cateogory from rebate processing?
    We have a "non-stock" item category that we want to set as "non relevant" for rebate processing,  but I don't know where/how in configuration to do this.....Can anyone tell me if this is possible, and if so what do I do to make this exclusion.

    The other option would be for that item category in VOV7, dont maintain any value against the field "Pricing".

    Alvyn,
    On all my machines the Time Machine destination disk is normally excluded. I can't remember if I did this or it's added by default. You can excluded anything you want in the Privacy tab of Spotlight's system preferences.
