Excperiences when changing main admin account

I as usual when buying a new Mac, found after 2,5 years, that my iMac should benefit
from changing my main admin account to a new one. And then I had the possibility of
rethinking all things that I had installed slightly unsmart.
So I now have two main accounts, the new one to use all the time, and the old one,
that maybe could be needed for some reason.
I tried to migrate as much as possible by copying all music, mail and other stuff,
and then I will delete the old versions when I am fairly shure that things work ok.
What I however have not figured out, is how I should do with all Documents and
Pictures. I felt like starting with an empty iPhoto, with more order in the new
database. And All slightly misnamed forestlike document folders will have to
stay that way for a while until I know how to extract a managable number of mostly
accessed things.
I also happened to Buy iPhoto Library Manager, which is great if I want to
switch back to the old setup.
So far it feels good, also when I discovered that Mission Control is great.
Especially with the shortcuts ^-arrows left and right.
I placed every main App on its own screen, and was a bit bewildered that
the background seems to get put just one one screen, if you change it.
If you have read this far, and is a Unix guru, what rights should be smart
to put on the old Documents and Pictures and Movies folders, and the
home directory?
I think I mainly will need just read access to files, and with Lion, you
can put the new copy of changed files in the new home folder.

You could either create a new user, or change the existing one with the instructions on this page
If the unwanted user account has no content you want to save, just create a new one.

    I'm adapting Work Manager for iPad and in my main screen I have 4 tab screens: Work Orders, Notifications, Time Sheets and Crew Manager.
    I would like to trigger a List Selection action step when the user navigates to the Time Sheets tab in order to select the current day of the week automatically. I already created and tested the action with a button and it's working fine but I don't find a way to trigger an action when changing main screen tabs.

    In the screen definition there is not much I can define... just the icon, size and styling...

    Regarding Bill suggestions I think there are too many possible actions in the main screen where to apply the selection step.
    And to apply Jason's workaround I need to do a major UI change and user's are too familiar now with the solution that has been in production for a while...
    I think I will set the date after transmit. It won't work on the initial load and when user manually selects a different day and comes back to the tab, but I think it will cover more than 90% of application uses since they are supposed to synchronise every morning and register time for the current date usually.
    @Jason: I hope you can tell the idea to the engineering team

  • Changing the Admin Account

    I've been operating under my admin account since I've owned a Mac, and in all that time I've always had two accounts, one the admin, the other named 'Test' as a clean user. In light of the new potential danger of future trojan's and such should I (and am I able to) switch the Admin powers over to the mostly unused Test account and make my main account into a daily user? Or am I stuck with this configuration w/out a complete erase and reinstall?

    Yeah, geeze, we're getting ahead of the ball game here. These speculative precautions about viruses cause, as we see, more problems than they solve.
    Instead of changing the way you work (and the way the OS is designed to work), don't mess with the user accounts. If you're the primary user of the computer, work in an admin account -- it's nothing like working as "root" (which is bad), and there are just too many occasions when you need to be an admin that working as a non-admin user is going to cause a big pain.
    The only sensible precaution (in my opinion) is to back up your data. Retrospect Express and blank DVD-R won't cost you much, and they will protect against the myriad failure modes -- not just the unlikely case of a virus.
    Once viruses become a problem inOS X (which, I agree, is inevitable), I have every confidence that Apple, Symantec, and lots of other companies will come up with good solutions. But, at the moment, the threat is slight, and so the demand is light, and therefore the products (and workarounds) are lousy. I don't think there's much virtue in being the first on your block to build a fallout shelter.

    Hello, I'm unable to change my Administrator password.
    Computer model: MacBook Pro (mid 2012), not Retina.
    OS: OS X Mountain Lion.
    There's a network account server in my settings.
    Admin account info: Admin, Managed, Mobile.
    I have tried to change the password via System Settings and via Terminal (passwd command line).
    When I try to change it in the Terminal, it just echoes out "passwd: general failure".

    Oh, okay.
    I was once able to change the password, and then I changed the password of my account in their Microsoft Exchange Server.
    And after that, I was unable to change the password on my Mac.

  • How can I get iphoto to work again in my main admin account?

    iphoto does not work in my main account. it works in other accounts but it just hangs when launched on my admin account. I have tried rebuild and deleted com.apple.iphoto.plist still no luck. it is iphoto 11

    Do not import one iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - the correct thing is to drag a working iPhoto library to the pictures folder (default location) and launch iPhoto - it will open and convert the library as needed
    Not sure what your comment about dragging an iPhoto library on means but if  you dragged it onto the iPhoto icon or the iphoto window you are importing and will have to let it finish and then start over

Then I deleted it, but Mac OS X Server changed my administrator account to standard account and I cannot administrate my Mac mini :-(. I cannot use my password and there is not any other administrator account. Do you know to change back my standard account to administator account? Thank You

    10.7 How to create a new admin account on the machine when you can't log in.
    Hold command and r keys down and boot into Recovery, open Terminal and type each and press enter
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    reboot
    Once in:
    Open System Preferences > Users and Groups
    Click on the lock icon, enter admin password.
    Select your old user account and click on the reset password button on the right
    Enter the new password, write both passwords down less you forget
    Reboot and log in.

  • Pureftp manager changed my admin account

    I downloaded this piece of software called pureftp manager and install it.
    It changed my os x admin user name and password.
    The user is now changed to "ftp virtual user" and I don't know the password.
    I don't have other admin account.
    What can I do?

    The pureftp manager was downloaded as an open sourced software and I didn't write to ask the developer.
    I ended up reformating my mba 2011.
    I knew my user name was changed because before I logged out of the os, I went to user and group in system preference and noticed the user name was changed to FTP Virtual user or something like that, ad when I tried to change the name back, it prompted me to enter the password and I inputted my original password and it didn't work.
    I don't know if this was because that my user name was in Chinese and the developer being an western language user, could he have neglected when coding the unicode issue and deleted/changed the user name when it was trying to add a new ftp user.  That was a wild guess.
    Because most users reported no problem on the forum, I had the problem and happened to use chinese in mac.

  • How do I change my admin account to a standard acct without losing anything?

    I'm not sure if that is the best way to phrase the question, but I have been reading a lot about the last trojan that seems to be causing problems.  I am very careful about not downloading or installing things I am not sure of, but even then, I might want to download a picture that seems safe and be surprised.  I have been reading that it is better to do daily internet tasks/surfs/etc from a standard rather than from my admin account.  I am the only one regularly using my mac so I hadn't really thought that it was a problem.  (I have a seperate account with parental controls set for my grandchildren to use).  Can I turn this account into a standard account and then have a different admin account?  And then what if I want to install something for my standard account to use?  Would I still download audiobooks from a website I belong to to the admin account?  If the issue is that I need to provide my admin password, why is it any safer on the standard account?  I hope I'm making myself clear.  I want to understand this so I can make the decision that works best for me, whichever way I chose to go.

    thank you for reminding me about Thomas' Corner.  I read it probably a month after I got my Mac.  I am not going to instll any AV software right now, but will look at ClamXav, which is the most recommended one on this forum, since I fall into the "might need peace of mind" category.  I do think I "surf" very responsibly, don't download or install anything I am not sure of, don't do social networks (I may be the only person who has never been on Facebook) or open unknown emails, and use the WOT add on to alert me to dangerous websites.  thank you for responding to the other post about the issue regarding general and admin accounts.  If I change my mind, I know what options are available to me.

  • Error when using super admin account to migrate from Communigate Pro to exchange 2013

    We are facing issues to migrate mails from communigate pro to exchange 2013 using 'MigrateIMAP.pl' tool. Communigate pro has a super-admin account which can retrieve the mails from any mailbox but when sending to Exchange 2013, there is no such super-admin
    account. I have created a user account granting it full access to all databases using the following:
    Get-MailboxDatabase -identity “mailbox name” | Add-ADPermission -user <account name> -AccessRights GenericAll
    Get-mailbox | Add-MailboxPermission -User <account name> -AccessRights FullAccess -InheritanceType All
    The tool uses the following command: (x.x.x.x is for server IPs & mytestlist contains user accounts to be migrated)
    ./migrateIMAP.pl -d -I -U -s 100 -L mylog7 -e superadmin:password\<i -S x.x.x.x -f
    exchangeadmin:password -D x.x.x.x -i mytestlist
    The IMAP4 logs shows the following error:

  • Unable to sync to iDisc when in non-admin account

    Hi,
    I use my non-admin account on my Mac for all of my work. iSync will only back up my work to my iDisc if I am logged into my admin account but not if I am logged in to my non-admin account. This means that iSync does not back up anything to iDisc that I have created when in my non-admin account. I get a dialog alert that states:
    "FileSyncAgent
    Unable to turn on iDisc syncing. Please check your MobileMe username and password in the MobileMe preference pane."
    I have no problem connecting when I am connected through my admin account so what gives? Anyone any ideas? Thank you for your help in advance.

  • My display is corrupted when using the admin account

    I have like 16 bit color when I am using my admin account. When I use any other account the display is fine.

    Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, set the display to use Black & White, turn off all the checkboxes except for the one relating to assistive devices, which doesn't matter, and move the contrast slider all the way to the left.

  • Changing main email account

    I have read some of your previous enquiries about exchanging the main email account for one of the sub accounts, and would like to know how to do this.  I set up the email for the business in my own name, but now I am retiring, I want to change the main account to the business name, while still keeping my own email address.

    Depending on how you read your e-mail, you can alter it so that it send and receives using a sub-account, without having to change the primary e-mail address.

  • Problem when change bank clearing account for payment posting.

    We recently changed the bank clearing account for payment posting (program PC00_M99_PPM). But I found out because the config can only be changed but not delimited on payroll side, the program errored out when it retro back for an employee to the old clearing account.  So what am I supposed to do to fix this problem?
    Have anyone ever handled this problem before and could please throw some light on it?

  • Nothing Happens when Logging on Admin Account

    Currently, I am using a secondary account to post this message. When I try to get into my main account, after entering my password... nothing happens. I see the mouse, and the background, but that's it. The dock never appears. I've tried waiting it out but nothing happens. I've restarted, turned the computer on and off... but I can't really think of much more I can try doing. Any suggestions?

    I was on the phone with AppleCare for quite some time. After trying many solutions, he eventually got me to delete the account and move everything over to a new one (something I had intended to try before calling). So that worked, and all is well. My only announce is that my shortname isn't kaegan anymore, but rather kaequan (my nickname). I can live. I hope that you have a secondary account so you can delete the old one. Make sure you back everything up, moving it to the new account first. If you need help doing that, I'm willing.

  • Leopard Kernel panic - when rebooted main user account is gone

    The title describes my problem well I think. My macbook running Leopard had a kernel panic. When I rebooted, the user account was gone. I booted from the Leopard DVD to reset the password, and reset the password of the root account and a mobile account - to which I have forgotten the password - with admin privileges. Neither one will log on. I'm pretty sure the mobile account will need the domain controller to successfully log on.
    The root user I have never activated, so I suppose I can't use that. And without the ability to log in I can't seem to think of a way to activate it either.
    There's a guest account available. And it works alright.

    Will either of the two accounts log in while booted in safe mode (hold down the shift key at boot time)?
