EXE not writing to TDMS files

Hi folks,
I am using LabView 8.20 on a Windows XP machine.  The application generates TDMS data files and all works fine in the development environment.  When I compile the TDMS files are not written to correctly.  The files are created (I can see them appear in the folder at the appropriate time) but no data is written to them.
The app uses absolute paths to the files, so the issue with stripping the extra layer off the EXE path does not apply.
I have USI installed.
Any ideas how I can look deeper into this, or if this is a know bug that has been solved?
Thanks,
Ian

I have some similar problem, but I have problems in the both execution modes, exe and in developmen mode, i send the basical example of code, and the tdms file result, at start, work properly, but in some moment the tdms writer rutine "is out" and don´t work, but after some time, in some times short time(some seconds), at other times very long time (hours), the rutine himself restart to work, !!!!incredible!!!!!
can you help me????

  • LSMW Direct Input Inspection Plan Not Writing Inspection Char File

    Hello Experts,
I am using Direct Input Program RCPTRA01 to Load Inspection Plan.
Created 3 structures - Inpection Plan/Operations/Inspection Characteristics one below the other in that order.
We have a internal numbering system for assigning Group to Inspection Plan.
I defined GROUPID column in Maintain Source Fields Inspection Plan/Operations/Inspections characteristics structures and set "Identifying Field Content" as 1.
When i read data - program is reading inspection plan and operations. But it is not writing Inspection Plan file.
What am i missing. Spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what i am missing.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro - FTP.exe not able to put file to FTP Server

    Hi
We have replaced our Windows XP environment to Windows 8.1 Pro. Now I have problem with sending files through FTP to very old devices. Devices are runninng FTP Servers. Each time I try to "PUT" file on Windows 8.1 I receive message after some time:
    "Connection closed by remote host"
If I make the same on Windows XP file is stored on FTP successfully.
From Windows 8.1 I am able to upload software only via Filezilla, but I need command line solution like FTP.exe or ncFTP.exe (non of them are able to stor file)
I have observed in Wireshark, that ftp.exe sends about 80kB of data, waits for some time and then it stops.
    Summary of my problem:
    Source Appl
    Destination
      Status
    Win XP ftp.exe
    FTP Server upload ok
    Win 8.1 ftp.exe
    FTP Server upload failed
    Win 8.1 ncFTP.exe
    FTP Server upload failed
    Win 8.1 filezilla
FTP Server upload ok (but no command line solution)
    Win 8.1 environment:
    - standard installation of Windows 8.1 with newest Microsoft patches
    - firewall ports - opened for inbound and outbound traffic
    - no antivirus
    FTP Server on problematic devices:
    - old FTP Server, transfer in passive mode
I need command line solution tu upload files. Now I am not able to upload 1500 devices as we don't have Windows XP anymore.
What I have observed, when I type "PUT file" it takes about 20-30 seconds to start transfer on Windows XP or through filezilla.
Is there any problem with timeout in Windows 8.1 when it transfer files to old FTP server (working in passive mode)?
    Thanks and regards,
    Marcin

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer not writing metadata to files

Trying to use Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer to update date taken and add tags to picture files.   Organizer is supposed to write/update the original file properties with this updated/new metadata, however, it seems to be pretty haphazard.   I've tried selecting pictures and using the menu option to "Write keyword tag and properties info to photo" (CRTL + W).   It processes and states it is updating the files, however, after it completes, you can access the source file in Windows Explorer and view properties but none of the changes (date info or tags) has been updated in the file.
Adobe support has been not been helpful simply pointing me to a knowledge article on metadata which basically tells you to use the same commands I'm already performing.   Posting here to see if anyone has other suggestions.

    Hey,
There are various date/time fields shown in properties panel in Organizer. The dates mentioned in general section are read from OS whereas the dates in EXIF field are read from image's EXIF data. In EXIF data there are three date/time fields-
    1. Date time- This date/time info shows date modified of EXIF properties. So when you are writing a tag into imags's IPTC, you are doing some change in EXIF data. Hence this date should change to date when you are writing a tag into IPTC.
    2. Date time original - Represents date time when a image was shoot.
    3. Date digitized - Represents the date when the image was digitized (in digital camers there is hardly some delay between an image is shoot and it is digitized. So this field is always same as date original).
So, in your scenario, Date time in EXIF should change whenever you are writing any tag into its IPTC.
Please let me know if you need more info on it.

  • PSE10 not writing dates to files consistently

I asked essentially this question on Elements Village a few days ago.  No responses as yet, so I thought I'd try here...
In PSE10, I have many photos scanned to TIFFs. In the Organizer, I set the dates for these photos to match when the original photo was taken (which of course is not present in the automatic metadata for the scanned image). However, when I look at the actual photo files (either with exiftool, or looking at the metadata available in Windows Explorer on my Windows 7 machine), usually my added date is not present. If it is there, I see a "Date taken" in Explorer. In exiftool, it appears in a few places, including IPTC Date Created and XMP-xmp:Create Date. However, it only appears in about 5-10% of the files. The ones where it does appear seem random to me.
I have this problem after doing Write Keyword Tags and Properties Info to Photos, although I'm thinking this isn't a factor with this problem.
Does anyone know how to get these added dates to be written reliably to the files?  And why is it intermittent with PSE10?
    Thank you,
    Bill

An update, and some more questions:
I figured out which dates get written to files and which do not.  If my assigned date is only the year, or only month and year, it does not get written to the file.  It is necessary to have the day specified (but not the time) to have it written to the file.  So some new questions:
If you only specify a year, or year and month in Lightroom, does it write it to the file?  What about other programs, such as Picasa?  Does it support year only dates?
I remember in the past reading a John Ellis FAQ where he suggested when you only had the year to put in Jan 1st, etc.  I can see how this trick would solve my immediate problem, even tho it is misleading.  My question is the following.  Lets say I plan to convert to Lightroom in the near future.  If I added these artificial Jan 1st's, etc., would that mess up me up after importing into Lightroom?
    Thank you,
    Bill

  • Songfile path not writing to .itl file when iTunes Media Location is changed.

Running iTunes 11.1.4 on an Intel NUC with Windows 8.1. My iTunes library contains about 65K songfiles. All media is on a NAS.
Frequently when I restart the PC the NAS is not immediately mounted. So if I don't check this before starting up iTunes, the iTunes media folder location changes to its default.
I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, but a few days ago I started seeing a vast number of exclamation points indicating lost songfiles. All music is nicely organized in a parent folder on the NAS and iTunes had, until recently, no problem recognizing all of it.
So the other day I changed the iTunes Media Folder Location in the program from the default (which it had switched to at bootup) to the songfiles' location on the NAS. I then let the software update the library.
Still the exclamation points remained, with no discernible pattern. Within albums, some songs were recognized, some not. I'd say about two-thirds were missing, according to iTunes.
I shut down iTunes, fired up Vim, and had a look at the library's .xml file. Sure enough, about two thirds of the songfiles pointed to the default media location, with another one-third pointing correctly.
I edited the .xml file to line everything up properly, but came to find that this has no effect because the .itl file rules the roost. As soon as I started iTunes back up, the paths returned to the locations according to the .itl file, and these incorrect paths were also written to the .xml.
Updating the media folder location seems to have no effect on iTunes's ability to find the files. I know I can rebuild my library using the .xml file (presumably best done after I have changed the paths to their proper file locations), but I don't want to lose playcounts, ratings, playlists, etc.
So. It *seems* as if my .itl file is corrupt even though iTunes starts and the program is able to locate a portion of my media.
Is there something I am missing? Some way to get iTunes to recognize the proper path for all media without a library rebuild?
    TIA.

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible thatiTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
I've seen a suggestion that iTunes' own repair mechanism may work better when "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" is turned off.
See also make a split library portable. Keeping the whole library on the drive removes the problem of the media folder being reset.

  • Error 2519 LabVIEW could not load the TDMS file component

    Hi there,
I have LabVIEW 2014 for Linux, and have successfully installed it on OpenSUSE 13.1 with no issues.
The problem I am seeing is with TDMS, I have placed down and "Open TDMS" followed by "close TDMS" provided it my file path to my TMDS File and I see the following error:
I have searched NI.com and google, and what I keep finding is the problem with cRIO. I am running a desktop version of Linux as mentioned above.
Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks
    Kevin

    Hey
Thanks for getting in touch with me. I can confirm I have the TDMS components installed and in the correct location.
I will try to reinstall my LabVIEW and see if that helps.
I have two systems that both are running the same version of Linux and I have the same issue on both systems. One is a physical system the other is a virtual machine replicating the physical system.

  • ITunes not writing valid XML file

I've been having trouble with my iTunes library being seen by anything other than itunes (iPhoto, iLike etc) and the problem is with the XML file. If i try to open the xml file in BBEdit i get an error that says:
    *Incorrectly formed UTF-8*
The UTF-8 File "iTunes Music Library.xml" is damaged or
incorrectly formed; please proceed with caution.
So I dump it and force iTunes to create a fresh copy, but that has the same problems.
If I put an old copy of the XML file (from a few months back) into the iTunes folder, then all the other iApps can see an iTunes library and interact with it, but as soon as iTunes updates the file it becomes unusable again.
    The XML file is 30.5MB.
Does anyone have even the slightest idea why iTunes is producing an unusable XML file all the time? Could it be something to do with the size of the file? Or could it be something that's appeared in my library over the past few months that's messing up the xml file?
Any and all comments/suggestion would be greatly appreciated as i'm running out of hair to pull out

Ok, I ran the rest through my parser, and there is (only) one other broken spot. It's on "Donde Liesta Usc (La Boheme)" Also the file location tag. (Shown as "where" in the summary tab of the info window in iTunes.) Deleting and re-adding this track as well as "Need You Tonight" should cause iTunes to correct those location tags and completely solve the problem by eliminating the character encodings that are illegal for utf-8. Both tracks should then also become playable again.

  • Opening large tdms files in excel takes forever, can anything be done?

After recording some daq channels for 4 hours my file is 120mb large, with about 20columns of data and 150k rows. Opening this in excel takes at least 5min, several not responding screen fades, and growing fear that all my data is impossible to get to.
What can I do about this? Is there a split tdms file option I can use or a way to speed up excel maybe?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The solution is to not make the TDMS files so large. Perhaps modify the code so it starts a new file every 1/2 hour or something. Could you post a screen shot of the part of the code that is doing the saving?
Something that just occurred to me is that the TDMS file format is optimized for writing - not reading so stuff is just sort of streamed into the file with an index keeping straight what goes with what. The results is a file where the data from individual channels can be very fragmented, like parts of a file on a hard drive. I think there is a routine for defraging a TDMS file. Alternately, you could save the data in a temporary file (not necessarily TDMS) and resave it to the final TDMS file after all the data is collected.

  • TDMS file error occurs after several hours

I have a compiled LabVIEW 2010 SP1 executable running on a Windows 7 PXI computer that is occasionally producing the following error message:
"LabVIEW: LabVIEW could not load the TDMS file component.
The top-level VI <my VI's name> was stopped at unknown on the block diagram of  <my VI's name>"
This program is interfacing with equipment under test over a number of PXI cards and ethernet connections. It alters inputs to the system based on script commands, while receiving and displaying outputs. During testing, state changes are sent to a TDMS file. The system can run for hours but will usually produce the above error message... eventually.
The error seems to indicate that a LabVIEW file is missing, but the TDMS files are being created, so I may not be understanding the meaning of the error. Does anyone know what the actual cause(s) of this error message are?

The code writes to the TDMS file using the "TDMS Write" VI from the TDM Streaming Palette. These write VIs are located in 12 different sub VIs in a program loop within my main VI. Every 50ms they execute, service the I/O,  and write to the TDMS file if data in the particular sub VI has changed state. Some are writing floating point numbers, most are writing strings. There are about 750 total channels being written. I know that posting the code would be more usefull than describing it, but I think posting the source code would be frowned upon by my company. There are over a hundred custom VIs and external hardware connections that are required to effectively run this code anyway.
Regarding timing, there doesn't seem to be a particular amount of time that has to pass before this issue occurs. I was given a screenshot that shows the error occured after 11 hours of running. I was also told that the same error had occured about 6+ hours into a test once. I can say that this error doesn't seem to occur quickly, as in within the first hour or so. It seems to require long duration tests.

  • Split a TDMS file

    Hi,
I would like to record 32 signals in TDMS file.
But I want to acquire for example 50 000 points per files. I made a VI which do this but I have a problem because for one file, I can have 50 000 points for one channel et the double , 100 000 for the other channel, I don t know how i t s possible because I limited to 50 000 points.
Maybe I made a mistake in my code, could you help me please
I put my VI in attachment file.
    Thank you very much

  • Problem viewing data after import TDMS file

    Environment SignalExpress 3.0. Windows XP.
I have a number of logs created and saved in a SignalExpress 3.0 project. I'm trying to import a single log into a new project and view the data in a data view window.
    So I do:
    Open SignalExpress
File->Import->Logged Signal from SignalExpress TDMS files
Navigate to the log folder named - "25062009_135820_-_Nano_Carbon_Pyrograf_T1"
Double click the tdms file named - "Voltage.tdms"
I see the following tree structure in the Logs pane :
    Logs
        - 25/06/2009 13:58:20
            - Nano Carbon Pyrograf T1
                - Voltage - Dev3_ai0.
If I then try to drag Voltage - Dev3_ai0 onto a data view it doesn't work.
I've inspected the original project which I used to create the log  tried to import above. Comparing the tree structure it looks:
    Logs
        - 25/06/2009 13:58:20 - Nano Carbon Pyrograf T1
            - Voltage
                - Dev3_ai0
In this project I can drag Dev3_ai0 onto a data view with no problem.
Notice the difference in tree structure in the Logs pane? I'm pretty sure SignalExpress is parsing the log wrongly when it imports it!
    Mike

    Hi Mike
I know that we have communicated over email but I just wanted to respond here so others can see the workaround.
I have investigated the issue and have been able to reproduce the issue, even in Signal Express 2009. The problem is caused by the name you specify for the log when you begin recording. If the character "-" is present at any point in the name of the log, Signal Express does not import the tdms file correctly. This is not an issue with the tdms file, as it opens fine with LabVIEW, but must be an issue with Signal Express. I have reported this as bug under reference #182846. For now, you should not use the "-" character in the name of your log.

  • Problem writing to a file on a shared drive

I am having problems with my application not writing to a file on a shared drive. Actually it works perfect on one computer, but not on any other computer. Any ideas on why this would not work. Here is my code below, I think this may be an issue with permissions on the shared drive but have played with those until I am sick of it and nothing works. Any help on getting it to write to a file on a shared drive would be great.
    report2 = new JButton("Provider Order Entry");
                        report2.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {

                                       catch (NullPointerException NPE) {
                                            System.out.println("Error -- " + NPE.toString());
                        });

So how do I stop the
NPE from occurring.By not dereferencing a null reference.
    Thingamabob xyz = doSomethingWhichMightReturnNull();
    if (xyz != null)
// go ahead and use xyz here
If you leave out the above "if" statement check, and just willy-nilly try to use xyz when it is null, you'll get the NPE.
It is occurring on the file
name. I have never been able to stop the file name
from throwing a NPE.I don't know how that translates to some lines of your code.

  • Not enough memory to complete operation when writing TDMS file.

    Hello,
I am new to Labview and having a bit of trouble. I attach some code here. What I want to do is sample from a NI 9220 DAQ from 16 channels at 20kHz, while from a second NI 6009 sample from 4 channels at 1000 kHz. I want to append these together and then write to a TDMS file.
I have tried to write this code using NIDAQmx VIs but when I have it has resulted in the two DAQs not having the right timing with each other. The 6009 samples for a longer time.
I have now tried instead to use the DAQ assistant to read from the two VIs and it works in that TDMS files produced have the correct timing between the two DAQS. However, if I record for more than 2 minutes, in the end I want to end up recording for a much longer time, I have the "Not enough memory to complete operation" message appearing. This still happens even if I get rid of my charts to display the data, and also if I get rid of the NI 6009 completely and just keep the 9220 sampling at 20kHz. It happens even if I repalde my TDMS write and put a write measurement assistant in which I tell it to write a series of files that are each less than 2 minutes long.
I think it is something to do with the amount of data I am reading and is being held in memory. What can I do about this? Also, my charts display very slowly, basically evey second when the 20k are read in. However if I lower the amount of data read the charts don't display all the data points.
I attach my code, thanks for your help!
        Alfredo

As far as your charts updating very slowly - the way your code is designed, your charts only get data when both 20K samples & 1M samples are done collecting.  Have you tried setting up DAQ assistant for continuous sampling instead of 20K samples or 1M samples?
